May 2010 Movies

In May I only saw two movies at the theater. I liked one, disliked the other. What was your opinion of these two?

  • 12) Green Zone - Matt Damon, Brendan Gleeson, Greg Kinnear, Amy Ryan (May 15, 2010)

The story of a soldier trying to find the Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq just after the country was invaded. The power shifts constantly and he must try to stay alive in a war zone. It's a good film, but uses the "shakycam" technique a lot, which may not work for some people. It also moves so fast that there is little time to care about the characters. A noble attempt that didn't quite succeed.

  • 11) Alice in Wonderland - Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter (May 5, 2010)

The characters from the Lewis Caroll books are placed in a story that has very little to do with the original books. It's a bit like Tim Burton read the Wikipedia version of Through The Looking Glass, a long time ago. It's a beautiful looking movie but sadly there is nothing below the surface. Not recommended, even for fans. Vapid.
