Monday - Rainy, windy and horrid

We got up this morning and checked out of our hotel.  We drove around for a bit, and ended up having an early brunch at Gusto.  We both had their new "Canadian Beef-Burger".  I liked it, it didn't agree with F. Supposedly the beef came from Alberta.  That made me ridiculously happy!

We did a spot of shopping after brunch, then headed back to Tsuruoka.  It was horrid out.  There's a typhoon making it's way up Japan and the amount of rain and wind that we got today was crazy.  The roads had branches all over them from the wind.

We came home for a bit and then went out again to the Internet Cafe.  We spent rather a long time there today…too long if I'm honest.  However, the weather was bad and we didn't have anything else planned, so I thought it was better than staying home and getting on each other's nerves.  I finished the doily I was making, watched a two part movie, started another movie and took a nap.  I did a bit of reading too, so that was good.

We left the Internet Cafe and went looking for dinner.  I left it up to F and he picked the Sweeney Todd restaurant.  I wasn't greatly excited, but because F thinks I always say no, said it was okay. We got there, the lights were still on, so we went upstairs, and found that the staff were turning things back on for us.  They'd turned off the music and the room lights, and had to switch everything back on.  F, at my urging, did ask if it was okay and they said it was, but I felt really guilty.

F and I had an argument about food and frankly, I am so sick of the whole thing.  I hate eating with my husband these days, I almost never want to go out with him anymore.  All he ever wants to eat is ramen, or he wants to eat at the worst restaurants because they give him food he wants.  I have to compromise so much with the food in this country.  So much of it is disgusting, unhealthy crap…at least that's the stuff my husband likes.  I know, everyone thinks Japanese food is healthy, but some of it isn't really.

We came home and I'm sitting here debating what to do with myself.  I'm not really willing to go through this again.  It's a never ending fight that makes both of us miserable and I just don't need the stress.

I watched a bit of TV tonight instead of doing any crochet.  Oh well.  At least, that was fun.

No idea what I'll get up to tomorrow.  Hope it's better than today.  Night.

My husband and I also have serious food differences and we just eat separate meals most of the time. He eats what he likes and I eat what I like. That being said, we don't go to restaurants very often and I do know that the food in restaurants in Japan can be limited and dicey in terms of nutrition.

My suggestion would be to try to eat at home more often. If all else fails, he can go out to eat alone and get ramen (though I have to imagine ramen is easy to make at home) and you can eat at home and cook what you want. Rather than suffer stress over this continuously, it may be better to just find a compromise. It's not like he has to have you present while he slurps his noodles! You can't talk much anyway while eating. It's also much cheaper eating at home and you can make far healthier dishes.

I know, I think it's a good idea too. Most of the time he gets upset if I suggest it. His restaurants tend to be the ones that serve "big food" for low prices, I prefer good food, no matter the cost!

I think a lot of it is that we don't plan ahead often and buy more than one meal's worth of food at a time. If he got all of his bait and fishing yuckies out of our freezer I could put more real food in there!

I doubt this is going to be solved anytime soon. :-(

As we both get older, I think things will get worse as we both prefer the food we were brought up with to the other cultures. There's nothing wrong with that, but it does make for a pain at meal time. I don't see a solution to it.

I prefer to eat a variety of "ethnic" foods, but in a small city we are very limited as to what is available here.

Thanks for visiting.

I also prefer a variety of ethnic foods and eat a fair number of bean-based dishes whereas the hub wants meat. Fortunately, I don't have to deal with bait and fishing stuff in the freezer (ewwww).

I wonder why F. gets upset at the idea of separate meals. I guess it's hard for you to just ask him why it's an issue when it seems like such a simple compromise that allows you both to get what you want. Based on what you've said, it seems he'll probably get upset at the mere raising of the topic.

I hope that things work out and you can have some more peace. It must be so stressful going through this argument over something so necessary to life!

I'm the person who wants meat, I do better with protein.

Sometimes he's fine with separate meals...last Friday, we did just that and it was great...but he also has a habit of just dumping me off in places and leaving me.

This is quite stressful at the moment and with me leaving in a couple of weeks for a trip to Canada , makes me think about extending my trip!

Thanks for your kind words :-)
