Thursday - Cloudy and then slightly rainy

A good day.

I got up this morning, had a quick breakfast and cup of tea and mentally prepared to go out to see a movie.  And promptly decided not to go and see it after all.  Sigh.  However, I decided that I probably would go to the afternoon film instead.  Woot!

I left the apartment a little after 1 and made quite good time getting to the theatre.  I bought my ticket, popcorn and drink, and went to see The Hateful Eight.  How was it?  Well, at one point I almost fell asleep, and then when I took a washroom break decided to go and get more popcorn.  I don’t think I have ever done that before, left a movie in the middle to get more food.  I didn’t feel like rushing back. Yeah, I didn’t like it much.  I do like most of Tarantino’s films, but this one just didn’t work for me.  The performances were fine, but the story left me cold.  I didn’t find it funny either.

I thought about going to the mall and having some tea after the film, but checked my weather app.  It said it would probably rain, so I decided to go home instead.  I think it was a good call.  I made good time and at the apartment did a little bit of weeding in the Ungarden.  I think it looked better.

When F came home tonight he did at least talk to me when I talked first.  I suggested going out for dinner so he said okay.  I really only wanted to get out of the apartment with him.  We went to Gusto and had a fairly decent dinner.  I had a doria and salad and quite liked it.

We hit up the grocery store again and I got a few things so I could make the vegetarian stew that I liked.  Mine won’t be strictly vegetarian as I plan to use a little of my chicken stock, but it’ll be mostly veg…does that count?

We came home and when I checked Facebook, some of my friends in Kyushu (the south part of Japan) had written about the earthquakes.  I had no idea.  We watched a bit about the quake and then I watched Bones. I did some of my crochet at the same time.  I’m nearly finished my second ball of yarn.  Yay me.

I also wrote a few postcards up tonight.  I had a few arrive over the last couple of days, even though none have arrived here this month yet!

And that’s about it.  F and I aren’t pally-pally yet, but at least we are talking.  I’m hoping that things will improve for the weekend.

Now I’m off to bed soon, but thinking about my friends in Kyushu who are going through aftershocks and water stoppages and such.  I hope they’ll be okay overnight.

Come back later and find out how my stew goes, and what kind of day I have.  Until tomorrow….

I found The Hateful Eight excruciating. It was just unlikable people doing terrible things for the duration. You have to have some empathy for someone, but it was just full of cruelty and terribleness.

In a way I had the benefit of reading all the criticism of the movie before I went in. I still thought I'd enjoy it because I like Tarantino, and have always enjoyed Kurt Russell's films. This just went on and on and on and while people died, no one seemed to learn anything.

The film looked great, but was definitely not one I'd recommend to other people.

This earthquake feels like the reverse of 3-11 (though not as devastating, obviously). We can't really do anything up here in the north. That must be how they felt in Kyushu during 3-11! Thinking of them. I always enjoy your posts, Helen.

Thank you! I always enjoy yours too, even when I don't comment!

I found out about the earthquake from Facebook. It's quite awful when you know your friends are in the "danger zone". I know now a bit more about how my friends felt during the 3/11 crisis.
