Tuesday - Rainy

An okay day.

I was a few minutes late getting up today, but nothing serious.  I came through to the living room and watched The X-Files and then channel surfed on a whim and found Episodes, the UK/US comedy that I like to watch.  I had no idea it was going to be on .  I watched that until 12:30!

Along the way I did make the bed and get dressed too.  F came home for lunch and then went back to work afterwards.

In the afternoon, I set to work.  I took many, many clothes off my set of drawers in the corner of the bedroom and went through it.  Some of it I plan to put away until spring, some of it I put out to be washed, and some of it I just threw out.  Yay me.  It took most of the afternoon to do, and then I had to put a lot of it back on the drawers until the next time I have free time.  However, it looks a little less dangerous, and I did throw quite a few things out.

Just before I started my wardrobe go-over, I cooked my Job’s Tears.  I boiled them for a while and when they were ready I drained them for later.

When 5 pm came around I took a very quick shower and then went into the kitchen to get dinner underway.  I did the dishes from the day and then cleaned the swiss chard.  Doing the veggie prep took most of the work. It wasn’t hard, just a bit of a pain.

F called a couple of times and I got him to buy me more soy milk.  I decided to cook in my stir-fry pan, so got it out and started to put things together.  It didn’t take a long time to get everything in the pan and soon it was bubbling away.

I got F to cook the fish tonight, I’m really glad he did it because I am just not confident with fish.  We had Swiss Chard with White Beans and Job’s Tears (recipe from Fat-Free Vegan Kitchen) with soy sauce-salmon and salad featuring wasabi-greens.  I enjoyed it a lot.  I still had problems getting F over to the table, but I tried not to nag.

F did most of the dishes afterwards.  He even cleaned the fish grill, which really impressed me.  He did forget the pan I cooked the Swiss Chard in though, but I did it.  No worries.

We had a quiet evening.  F watched some TV and then I did.  I wrote up 4 postcards for Postcrossing and did a little bit of end darning over on the couch.  I’ve nearly finished one side of the panel. Woot.

I’m not sure what I’ll get up to tomorrow.  I heard there could be snow, so that will be fun…not!  And we’ll probably find out the winner of the US Presidential Race is.  Fingers crossed we’ll be talking about the first Female US President from tomorrow on.  Hey, if Canada can have one, why can’t the US?

So that’s about it from me.  Come back in a bit and see what I get up to.  Until tomorrow….

Well, we effed up that election. Sigh. People are scared and sad, in shock here.

I came to read your blog for some diversion. You have been cooking with a lot of interesting ingredients. I've never even heard of Job's tears. How do they taste?

My friends on Facebook are all amazed, and not in a good way at the election results. I think the Americans are more upset than people from the other countries! Most of the Americans over here are highly educated, not sure if that is the difference!

Job's Tears are very mild, chewy...a little nutty. They look like big barley "beads". I have some left so I think I'll try cooking them again but do something else with them. I liked this recipe, but Swiss Chard is hard to find.

In Korea, they use them to make tea...I've actually got a tea blend with them for iced tea in my pantry.

If you Google them, you might find them being used as a craft bead...the "tears" before they are polished and shelled, have a hole in them so they are easy to thread.

I am dabbling in vegetarian/vegan cooking. It is one way to decrease the amount of meat that I eat...I don't think I eat that much compared to most North Americans, but it doesn't hurt to try new foods!

Whew! Long comment.

With what's his name...it is only 4 years.... Long years true enough, but 4 years.
