Thursday - Cloudy but warm, Thunder Later

A good day.

I got up on time this morning and came out to the couch.  They’ve taken off The X-Files and now have Revenge on.  It’s a silly show, but I sort of like it, so am getting up to watch it!

I had breakfast, tea and then a bit of a snooze.  I got dressed a bit later, made the bed, the usual.  F came home as usual after 12 for lunch, but today he did something unusual.  He invited me out for lunch!  I didn’t really need to go today, but I’ve been wanting to go out again so said yes.  We went to the local Chinese restaurant and had a really nice meal.  We shared our main dishes, which made things quite friendly.

I came home and scanned my cards and got them ready to go out.  Unfortunately, I didn’t actually take them out for a while. I worked on my Christmas Letter, putting a banner on the top and making it look good. I walked the cards off to the post office after 5 pm, and then kept going to the convenience store for a coffee.

At home, I got started on dinner.  It took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I finally did get everything in the oven.  F was home as I put it in the oven.  I left it in the oven and that was that. I hoped. Except, when it was supposed to be done, it wasn’t.  I think I just packed too much in my dish.   When we finally ate, about two hours later, things tasted great.  I made the tian from a recipe from the Simply Recipes website.  It looks a little odd because I used a purple sweet potato, a white sweet potato and some white potatoes.  It took rather a while to cook, but was ultimately worth it.  The caramelized onions in the base were so very good. I’m glad I spent time yesterday making them.

If only the other sweet potato wasn't white, it would have looked
so much better!  Imagine a mix of white, orange and purple.
That would have looked great!

In the evening F did the dishes, and I watched a bit of telly and did some crochet.  We had a fairly quiet evening, even though there was some thunder and lightning tonight.

I’m not sure what’s going to happen tomorrow.  If I’m smart, I might wrap a Christmas Present or two, and if I’m really, really smart, I might just send one or two off tomorrow.  Or do some Christmas Cards.

Come back later and find out what I get up to.  Until tomorrow….

That looks like it turned out really well! I'm a fan of scalloped potatoes, but I might have to give this one a try. :)

It was really good. If I was to do it again, I'd give myself more time to cook it, and maybe layer the potatoes in tiles like I did earlier in the year, rather than stuff them all in upright. Other colours would be good too for the sweet potatoes, to make it look prettier! Oh, and I don't have Yukon Gold potatoes...no such thing here.

Thanks for visiting :-)
