Saturday - Clear and sunny, then cloudy

A good day.

We both slept in this morning, and then F went off to his mother’s house. I got up eventually, took a shower and then waited for him.  When he came back he said that he’d had lunch with his mother.  Since I didn’t have to worry about him, I asked for Subway for my lunch.  We went to the mall and that’s what I had. It was great!

After lunch we ran a few errands.  I went to the craft store I usually use to get blocking wires and a blocking board, but the salesclerk had no idea what I wanted.  Sigh.  We even showed her pictures from the internet, but she had no idea.  We left empty handed.

We went to the drugstore nearby for a few things and then had coffee in a local Kissaten.  That was nice.

We came home and after a while, F wanted dinner.  He had eaten before me, so was hungry. I suggested a local restaurant so we walked over.  We had some Chinese food for dinner and it was great.  We had bifun, stir-fried veggies, fried chicken and fried rice.  It was all quite nice.  F had a beer too and then we came home.

At home I suggested watching a movie, so we did.  I had put The Perks of Being a Wallflower on the DVR at least a year ago so we watched it tonight.  Both of us really enjoyed it.  It was surprisingly deep.

Project Runway was also on tonight and I think the right person was sent home, although she didn’t think so!

It was a pretty good day, but I’m not sure what we’ll get up to tomorrow. Come back in a bit and find out.  Until tomorrow….

I bet you were at Pandora House. They have no clue there. Even though the clerks are always the same, they really don't sew or craft themselves, I think. They usually have good prices, though!

Nope, actually I was at Tokai, since there is one only a few blocks away from my apartment. The woman didn't seem to have any clue though...suggested big pins that knitters use, probably for cabling!

In my local Pandora House, it is always touch and go as to whether someone knows what they are doing!!

I find Tokai to be a bit more knowledgeable than Pandora, but still not as good as a true specialist. There are two fabric stores here in Kyoto that really know their wares and can find exactly what you are looking for right away. It's nice to work with them, especially when I don't know the Japanese word for whatever it is I am looking for. They can usually figure it out from my poor description.

I understand that her area of expertise might be something different...she might be a beader for example, or a sewer, but I don't think she even asked anyone else. I thought that was rather bad. I was thinking about spending a lot of money on whatever I got, so the store lost out.

It's nice that you have more options! I think this woman might have been "afraid" of me, but I was with my husband and even he understood what I needed.

I think I'll be pinning and steaming my squares. Sigh.
