March 6, 2009 - Friday

Rainy and miserable all day.

Today was a good day. It really was. It surprised me a little, but I'm happy to admit that it was good.

I got up, watched the news and let my husband ply me with coffee. Yay. I showered early, then spent some time on my computer. When it was time, he took me off for lunch and then he dropped me off at my school.

I had two lessons today with two hours free between them. The first one, was the first lesson with a new student. It went quite well. She did bring something that she's working on at home though. She's one of the people who is interested in Obama's speeches, so today she asked me to listen while she read one. She did rather well.

In my free time I checked classes for tomorrow, did paperwork, did laundry and then relaxed for a bit. My second class went fairly well. The student can read, he just doesn't know it yet!

I cleaned up the school, and then left. It was still raining, but not as hard as it was earlier. I cycled to the grocery store and picked up a few things for dinner, then came home.

This evening, I watched Scoop, a Woody Allen movie that was okay. I have to say that _I_ don't really "get" Woody Allen. I liked Hugh Jackman in it, I liked Scarlett Johansson, but over all the movie was a bit meh.

After Scoop finished, I hummed and hawed over what to watch next. I wanted something that I wouldn't normally watch with Fumihiko around, and something that I'd really enjoy. I decided to put on Th13teen Ghosts. However, after I put the dvd in the player, I caught sight of Diva and had a change of heart.

Diva is one of those ultra-stylish French movies with amazing music, great chases and interesting characters. I remember the music blowing me away when I first saw it, and it happened again tonight. There's an opera singer in the cast and she is amazing. And, the background music...ah. There's one piece of music in particular that is just haunting. The plot is quite complicated, but still easy to follow. A young postman in Paris makes a bootleg recording of his favourite opera singer. There's another tape making the rounds as well, that of a woman accusing a famous man of criminal activity. The two tapes are sought after by various people, good and bad. It's an original movie and a beautiful one.

I bought the dvd of Diva when I was in Canada last year and have been waiting for a good chance to watch it. It's in French with English subtitles, so I think it would be a bit difficult for Fumihiko to watch with me.

Anyway, it's late so I should go to bed! Fumihiko will be back tomorrow night, but in the meantime I'm enjoying my time by myself.

Night night.
