Friday - Clear and sunny, rainy at night

A good day.

I got up this morning in time for X-Files and watched it. I restarted my scarf as I decided it was too wide.  I was having a nice, quiet relaxing morning when F called to ask me out for lunch.  Oh, so he started talking to me again?  Whatever.  Still, a free lunch is a free lunch, so I accepted.

I got dressed, threw the bed back into shape and then met him outside.  We went to the Chinese restaurant that’s nearby and had a chill shrimp/tofu dish for lunch. It was okay.  I gave F half of my rice and it was still enough for me.

After lunch, he drove me to the bank machine and then after he used it, left me there!  I wanted to walk home.  It was a lovely day and the sun was shining.

When I came home I watched Whitechapel and then the French series with Jean Reno. I had a nice quiet afternoon, but I did get a few things done.  I started packing for my trip.  Yay.  I have to wait for a few things to dry.  Some will be my clothes that I’m wearing on the day, others will be in my suitcase.

When F came home, he needed to make another trip to the bank, and then we went to Komagi Spa for dinner.  It was quite nice, and very quiet there.  I was pretty good food wise, but did have a bit more dessert than I probably should have had.   Still, I didn’t have some of it because it had bananas in it, and I did have some fruit, even though it was covered in chocolate!

We came home and had a quiet evening in.  I put all the presents that I’m sending on our bed and looked to see how much else I need.  I need something for my sister and something for my nephew.  I always get my niece too much, but I don’t think I’m as bad as usual!

I did a bit more knitting and it is so peaceful and relaxing.  I really enjoy the process with this scarf.  The yarn is so interesting.  I’m currently at an eyelash bit, and it is so soft that I’m in love with it!

Tomorrow, F has to run some errands for his mum and go to the doctor.  I’m hoping we can fit in a bit of shopping and a trip to the movies.  There’s a lot on the screens right now….4 movies in English.  Amazing!

I’m going away on Sunday morning and I won’t be back until Monday night. Don’t miss me too much.  I most likely won’t post tomorrow night as I have to go to bed quite early.  That’s it for me.  Night!

Thursday - Sunny

An okay day.

I got up this morning in time to watch all of X-Files.  I spent a quiet day at home.  I did a few loads of laundry. It’s amazing how fast it adds up.

In the evening F came home but was tired.  He wanted to take a bath, I suggested dinner first. I told him it would be fast and it was. We were having leftovers.  However, apparently I didn’t hear him say he wanted to take medicine before dinner so I gave him some tea in his cup.  Then, I had the temerity to ask him to come to the table before his soup got cold.  He wouldn’t come and then refused dinner.

I ate by myself, did my dishes and then he made himself some ramen.  He took a bath and fell asleep on the couch and didn’t talk to me for the rest of the night.  Probably a good thing.

I watched my TV later on and even started a knitting project, even though I have way too many crochet ones at the moment! I couldn’t sit on the couch tonight as someone was using it!

Anyway, I’m hoping that things will be better tomorrow.  Come on back and find out.  Night!

Wednesday - Rainy

A good day.

I got up a few minutes later than I meant to and went through to watch X-Files.  I went on my computer fairly early too today.  I watched my next show from the couch and had breakfast there today.  I missed my yogurt and cereal while I was away.

I had a fairly quiet but busy day.  I did some laundry, I watched Jamie Oliver, I watched Nigella, basically the same old stuff!  I even scanned some cards, although I didn’t take them to the post office as the weather was bad.

I was supposed to make an apple crumble tonight, but we didn’t have any brown sugar, so I didn’t do it.  I did start dinner prep before F came home though.  When he arrived he volunteered to go out again for the sugar and some cream too.  Yay.

I quickly finished the veggie prep for the fajitas, then switched over to the apples.  I peeled and cut up 3 apples, then when F returned with the shopping, I made the crumble.  I set the apple crumble aside until after dinner.  Yes, I could have baked it while I was cooking dinner, but it would have been really hot for F to sit next to.

Dinner was great.  The fajitas were nice. I like using chicken as it is lighter.  We don’t like green pepper, so I used mushrooms instead and that was good too.  Everything was cooked and on the table in a short time.

F did the dishes and then when he was out of the way I baked the crumble.  I’d had to take some of the apples out as they were close to the top. I baked them a little later in my muffin pan with a bit of topping. I put 3 of them into a container for F to take over to his mother in the morning.

When the apple crumble was done, F whipped the cream and then we had some crumble and cream.  Yum.  Hurray, long time, no apple crumble.

We had a quiet evening in really.  I went over to the couch and did some sewing on my Christmas project and watched CSI.

I didn’t go out today, so I have asked F to take my cards to the mailbox tomorrow.  He said he would, so that’s a good thing.  I’m not sure what I’m going to do with myself tomorrow, hopefully prepare for Sunday’s trip or check my Christmas goodies for my family.  Come back tomorrow to find out!  Night.

Tuesday - Rainy, clear at night

A good day.

I got up when my alarm went off, came through to the living room and promptly fell asleep on the couch over X-Files.  I woke up when F popped in to get something.

For the rest of the morning I did a few things on my computer but never did get around to having breakfast.  I was planning to shower when F called and said he’d come home for lunch with a bento for himself, did I want one too?  I happily agreed as there wasn’t much food in the apartment.

Between his call and arrival I managed to get dressed, make the bed and was just on the way to put the kettle on when he walked in.  It was nice to see him.  He heated up the bento, I made tea and coffee.

He left again and I did my usual things on the computer and then took a shower.

I did some laundry and unpacked a little, although I’m still not quite done.

In the evening F came home and we discussed dinner.  He wanted to go out somewhere I didn’t at first, so we compromised.  Then, he came up with a new idea that was interesting.  He has a friend on Google Plus that started an izakaya, so he wanted to go there.  He’s never met the person before, just wanted to show support.  We hit up S-Mall first for a few things at the hundred yen shop, then went over to the izakaya.

The place is right on the main old shopping street and the food was very good.  It’s a hard business to be in, but the beginning signs were good.

After we ate a lot of very nice stuff, we came home via the grocery store and I got ingredients to make chicken fajitas tomorrow night.  Since neither of us like green peppers, I will use mushrooms.  I hope it goes well!

We had a quiet evening in.  I watched some TV and worked on my Christmas project, then went back to my computer and did some postcrossing cards up.  I also watched the Project Runway finale for season 10.  It was really good and I can actually say I’d wear a lot of the clothes, if they made them in my size!

That was my day.  Tomorrow I’m doing dinner and I half promised F that I’d make an apple crumble or something so I might try and put it together during the day and then bake it in the evening.  We’ll see how the time goes!  I’ll leave you with this thought.  It’s only one month till Christmas.  Night!

November 24, 2014

Monday - Sunny, some rain on the way home.

A good day…an odd weekend!

It all started rather swimmingly.  We left Tsuruoka around 7 pm on Friday night, got to our hotel in Shibata and had a pleasant night there.

We got on the road before 10:00am the next morning and arrived at our destination around 1:00 pm.  We drove around, found our hotel, but didn’t check in as we were too early.  We did a little shopping and more driving.  We checked in around 3 pm.

The hotel was older, basically a Bed and Breakfast.  It was supposedly an example of an Early American house.  Our room was fine.  We left our luggage, went out for a little more sightseeing and dinner.  I suggested going to a restaurant I’d been to before.  We went to Gravity Worx and had a really yummy meal.  F wasn’t too keen on the idea, but after he had some of the food, he was okay with ordering more!  I took a break from my diet for the weekend.  We had bread to start, then pizza and pasta.  We followed it all up with dessert too.  Yum.

We went back to our hotel, had our bath, went upstairs to our room and relaxed.  I was doing some crochet, and had just finished darning some ends in when the house started to shake.  Yes, dear F and I went to Hakuba in Nagano, the epicentre of the earthquake!  Although I experienced the big 3/11 earthquake, I was on the other side of the country from it, and it wasn’t as strong here.  This earthquake was right under us and felt much, much stronger.  The lights went out just as F made a dive towards me on the bed!  On the other hand, I very carefully felt around for the needle packet and put the needle away. I remember thinking somewhat clearly that if I didn’t put the needle away safely, someone might step on it in the dark.  F opened our room door and the emergency lights were on out there. Fortunately for us, the lights came back on a few minutes later and the hotel owners came up to check on us.

We had many aftershocks all night.  We couldn’t use the gas heater in the room, so the hotel owners brought up an electric one that we used instead.  F also sagely suggested that we change into our “street clothes” in case we had to make a run for it in the night.  All I can say is thank goodness for yoga pants because they are comfortable to sleep in.

I am also glad for my smartphone because I was able to email my friends and family and let them know I was okay, probably before some of them had even heard about the earthquake.

Sunday was F’s Birthday so we did a few things that he wanted to do.  We had breakfast in the hotel, then went out.  We did the “ashi-yu” or footbath next to the station, after buying towels at a drugstore for drying our feet.  It was something walking through the drugstore seeing all the merchandise on the floor.  Somehow, the stuff on the floor didn’t bother me quite as much as seeing the dishwashing liquid all this way and that on the shelves.
The Ashi-Yu had free wi-fi!

The ashi-yu was great, and then we looked for a museum, but it was closed for the season.  We had lunch at a soba restaurant, which was pretty good I have to admit. We also went to a glass bead shop.  I thought we’d just look around, but we got to make glass beads!  Each of us made a bead.  It was quite cool, and ever since I read the Dick Francis about the glassblower, I had wanted to work with glass.  We didn’t blow the glass, but we did work with it.  We had to let the beads cool before we could take them home, so we drove back to the station area and had drinks in a cafe there.

Back at the Glass Bead place, we got our beads and were invited to make a necklace or a keychain with them.  We chose necklaces for me, so we spent some time putting them together.  F was really good at it and did most of the work.  Then again, he could understand the man’s explanation!  It wasn’t cheap, and I probably will never do it again, but it was fun learning a bit of a new thang.

We drove around more, even going to the Hakuba Ski Jumping Hill where the Olympic Ski Jump was.  It was technically closed so we couldn’t get too close, but we snapped a few pictures!

We went back to the hotel for dinner.  That’s where my problems started.  I won’t go into too many details, but I became under the weather and had to leave the dinner table a few times during the meal.  Poor F.  His birthday and he almost ends up eating alone.

After our meal, I decided not to take my bath, but encouraged F to go.  The aftershocks had died down somewhat, although they did continue.  He went to the bath, I fell asleep on top of the bed.  I was surprised when F came back to the room.

We watched a bit of TV, I crocheted, but both of us were in bed and I think asleep before midnight.

This morning, we had our breakfast at the hotel, checked out around 10.  When we were in the room, F said, "I’d like to visit the Chihiro Museum." Since the only Chihiro I could think of was from a Ghibli movie I asked if he meant “Sento Chihiro”.  He didn’t.  He meant Chihiro Iwasaki, a famous Japanese artist.  I’m not a huge fan of her work, but it wasn’t my birthday the day before, so off we went.

F drove us there, it was about an hour away, and we spent the next 4 hours at the museum. It was huge, but rather interesting.  We did have lunch there too, and after we saw all the artwork, we went to the gift shop where I bought a few postcards!
The grounds of the Chihiro Art Museum Azumino. I think it would be lovely in summer.

After that, it was home.  It took us a long time to drive back, but apart from having to take a detour through Hakuba because of road closures, went surprisingly smoothly.  F was a powerhouse behind the wheel.  I dozed a bit and then found my  second wind for the last bit.

We came home and have been catching up with email and “stuff” ever since.  F is in bed now, I’ll be joining him soon I hope.

Whew.  Long story…still with me?  Got to go. Night.

Thursday - Cloudy

A good day.

I got up in time to watch X-Files this morning, and did. I watched a couple of other things in the morning and had my usual sort of morning.

In the afternoon, I made myself some tea and had lunch after a bit.  I got a few calls from F and as he was at an import store I suggested that he look for our Christmas goodies.  Surprisingly, he found them too.  Woot!

Lunch was another quesadilla, this time I finished the duck and had one with a little cheese and a sun-dried tomato.  That was really quite nice.

I was making dinner tonight and had originally planned to do mashed potatoes, but I realized that I didn’t have enough burners to do everything, so I changed to making couscous instead.  I’m so glad!  When F came home, I had things just ready to go on the stove, so it didn’t take very long at all.  Tonight I went the more simple route and had steamed cauliflower, couscous, sautéed chicken and salad.  The plates looked rather boring, but it was good.  F put tons of mayo on the cauliflower, plus had sujiko and rice too.  I don’t know where he puts it all!

F did dishes and I watched telly.  I had a good evening.  I did up 3 postcrossings tonight, and went over to the couch for a bit of crochet time later on.  I’ve re-finished the squares with the white edging and have just crocheted what I hope will be the tree at the bottom of the Christmas tree.  I hope to sew it all up and decorate it next week.

That’s about it for me.  I had a good if quiet day.  Oh, I also packed my suitcase.  Tomorrow F and I are off for a few days of vacation. I hope it goes well.  We’ll be back next week.  Night!

Wednesday - Warmish and sunny

A good day.

I got up early for me and took a shower.  I got ready to go out and at about 10:25, I began the trek to the bus station.  I got to the mall rather quickly and painlessly.  I made a quick stop to take a picture
Outside a new Japanese restaurant

and when I was at S-Mall I had time to ask the bus station staff how much the bus cost. Yay me.
On the bus, I read my book and occasionally looked out the window to see the scenery.  When I got to Mikawa Mall, I got busy.  I did a lot of window shopping at first and picked out a few things that I thought I might get later.  After a couple of hours of that, I decided to have lunch.

I took myself off to a family type restaurant and had a lunch of beef and chicken. It wasn’t bad, and it was fairly low calorie too.  Yay.

After lunch I got down to the serious business of shopping.  I got a lot of different stuff, for different people.  I think I’ve finished my husband’s birthday present, my best friend’s Christmas present and definitely my niece’s present.  I’d still like to get something for my nephew’s Christmas and birthday, plus my sister’s Christmas and my hubby’s Christmas too.  Whew.  But, still, I think I got nice stuff.  And mostly in budget too!
F met me after he finished work and we had some tea or a Java Kula in Seattle’s, then picked up a few things in Uniqlo.  Then we had a not great dinner in the mall.  After that, he picked up a book for our trip and I looked at kitchen goods but didn’t buy anything else.

We came home via the grocery store. I’m going to cook tomorrow night.  I chose easy to do stuff, and hopefully stuff that won’t leave us with a ton of leftovers.

We came home, watched a little TV and I tried to catch up on my internet stuff.  I’m not sure if I’m there yet, but it’s late, I’m tired and I need some sleep.

That’s it for me.  I’ll probably talk to you tomorrow.  Night!

November 18, 2014

Tuesday - Rainy and cool

A good day.

I got up before 9 this morning too.  F was up and in the living room already. He had to make a run to the doctor before he went to work.

I got up and dressed because I was expecting a delivery and didn’t want to go to the door in my pajamas.  I watched X-Files and also my usual Next Top Model, but F came back for a bit during that.  He didn’t like me sitting on the couch in “his” space!  I liked it just fine.  I was doing some crochet on my Christmas decoration.

I got my delivery and then I started doing my normal house things.  I made the bed, and did a few other things around the apartment.

In the afternoon I did watch Broadchurch…NOT over yet, and some stuff on my computer.  I also had a bit of a contretemps with Postcrossing too. They deleted one of my card scans saying that someone had complained about it.  Thing was, it was the front of the card I had scanned, and the person who sent it to me chose to write on it.  I had covered up part of his name to protect his identity, but they still weren’t happy.  This is a long time after the card arrived anyway.  Oh well, it is memorialized on my blog and I have plans for that spot on my Postcrossing wall now!

I had lunch and did the dishes, and then grabbed the vacuum cleaner and did a pretty fair job of the apartment. It sorely needed it.

F came home around 5:30 and put dinner together quickly. However, we waited until a little later to eat it.  We had shabu-shabu tonight and it was yummy.  We had lots of veggies and tofu too, so it was quite healthy.  I did the dishes afterwards.

We got a call from Uniqlo and they said that the shirt we ordered on the weekend has come in.  So, I decided to go to the mall by bus tomorrow morning and do some solo shopping.  I still haven’t got F’s birthday present, and it’ll give me a chance to do some shopping alone!  Yay.  I’m looking forward to it.

We had a quiet evening.  I watched Grey’s Anatomy from the couch and did more crochet. It was relaxing for me.  I needed it!

And that’s about it.  Tomorrow I hope to get up a little early and go to S-Mall and catch the bus to Mikawa.  Wish me luck with the whole thing!  Night!

November 17, 2014

Monday - Rainy and cold

A good day.

I was able to talk to my sister and my nephew last night before I went to bed. It was really lovely talking to them face to face!  I got to see just how my nephew’s braces are and heard all about the family going ons.

I went to bed and had a pretty good night.  This morning I first woke up just when F was getting up, then went back to sleep for a bit more sleep.  I did wake up before my alarms this morning, but for a change decided to just get up.  Good decision.

I had a quiet and relaxing morning.  I watched X-Files and did a little bit of crochet, read two newspapers and had breakfast.  It sounds busy!  F made a quick stop home, and after he was off again I took a shower.

In the afternoon I scanned my cards as well as having lunch.  I watched Broadchurch too.  I’m hoping its getting near the end as I don’t want to miss any when I’m away.

I was going to go to the post office with my card, but I ran out of time, so decided to let F take me out tonight to do it.  He would have to buy kerosene anyway, so I wasn’t making him go out.

I got dinner started after he came home.  It was a bit more fiddly than I like, but was really good.  Tonight we had lemon pepper chicken, roasted romanesco (a cauliflower/broccoli hybrid) and sautéed swiss chard.  All very yummy.  We had a caesar salad with it too…or the lettuce for one.  We didn’t eat until 7:30ish though.

F did the dishes and after a bit of relaxation on both our parts, we decided to go out for kerosene.  We picked some up and then F drove by a mailbox for me to drop off my cards.  They’ll probably go out tomorrow.

We came home and I made some tea. This was different than usual, it was ume kombucha, and was a nice treat.  I’d found the packet while I was decluttering and it hadn’t expired yet!

I watched Person of Interest from the couch and sewed in the ends of all my little squares.  Whew! And that was really about it for my day.  These days I feel like I have so much to do, but no time to do any of it.  Ack!

That’s it for me.  Talk to you tomorrow.  Night!

November 16, 2014

Sunday - Rainy, windy, cloudy & cold

A good day.

I slept in today.  I didn’t mean to, but 2 alarms didn’t wake me up at all.  Sigh.  My new phone’s alarms just aren’t as annoying and difficult to turn off as my old phones.  I’ve been taking my old cell phone to bed and using its alarm to wake me up!  I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to do that though.

Anyway, F and I ordered in sushi for brunch today and it was very nice.  I made tea and we sat on the couch and ate our repast.  Yum.

I was getting mighty house-sick by the late afternoon, so I suggested going out for a while.  We did.  We went to the new supermarket again, and this time checked out the new 100 yen shop above it.  It was quite nice and I picked up a few things.  We also bought our groceries at the new grocery store.  We got a few neat things and I’m looking forward to seeing what to do with them!

We came home and dropped off our groceries, then went off to S-Mall.  I needed dark brown yarn for the tree trunk part of my Christmas decoration.
I went up to the hundred yen shop, and F went to the grocery for the rice that he forgot to get for himself!

We met up, I bought my  yarn and then went off to  Doutors for a drink.  I had my usual Royal Soy Milk Tea and F had Royal Milk Tea.  Yum.

Then, we discussed where to go for dinner.  On the way to the mall we’d gone past a restaurant we haven’t visited in ages, so we decided to go there.  When we arrived, a big group were just leaving, so it was good timing.

We had a nice dinner at Jour Faste.  I had pasta, spaghetti with asparagus and shrimp in a cream sauce.  It came with a yummy salad, tea and dessert.  For dessert I chose a rucola chiffon cake.  It was quite nice, even if it was green! F had a hamburger and his came with the same salad, soup and dessert and coffee.  His dessert was chocolate cake. It looked good, but you know, I really enjoyed mine!

We came home and had some decaf tea, and watched a little telly.  I watched Project Runway and enjoyed it, although I did think that some of the clothes weren’t all that!

It’s my sister’s birthday today and I’ve been waiting around to see if I can video chat with her, but she’s very busy, and I’m going to bed soonish. I did a little texting with my niece though to see if I can get her something she’d like for Christmas.

Anyway, that’s about it for me.  Oh, wait.  Er, um…I wasn’t able to do any de-cluttering today either. I was either asleep or out most of the day.  The next two weekends I’ll be away, so I’m thinking to table the decluttering until February or so.  It’s a shorter month, so easier, and I don’t think I have any plans for it yet! I really enjoyed getting rid of stuff though, which is why I want to do it all over again.

Tomorrow, I’m cooking at home and I have to run to the post office and mail some of the postcards that I just wrote tonight. I hope to fit in some vacuuming and other fun stuff along the way though.  Night!

November 15, 2014

Saturday - Rainy then cold and windy

A good day!

I set many alarms last night so I would be sure to wake up this morning.  The reason, F wanted to be in the Doctor’s office by 10 am, so I had to be up and dressed at a reasonable time!  We almost made it.

We got into the clinic, F asked many questions about my health because I couldn’t read the form, then a few minutes later we were brought into the back and given the shot.  We were allowed/asked to wait a few minutes to make sure we didn’t have any bad reactions. After that, we were free to go.  Yes!

Because I wanted to use a washroom, and because there was a new grocery store opening, we went to the new Grocery store and had a gander.  It was lovely.  They had a bit of foreign food, the store had all kinds of nice stuff, some “different” vegetables, including the broccoli/cauliflower hybrid whose name escapes me at the moment. And there was cheese!  Aged Irish Cheddar.  I had no idea there was Irish Cheddar!  And the washroom…pretty swanky!  I’ve seen malls that didn’t have such nice ones.  The only downside to the washroom…no soap in the sink dispensers.  Obviously it hadn’t run out yet.  Luckily I carry my own soap.

We had brunch at the Indian/Nepali restaurant today.  We were the only customers, but had a good meal.  Their curry de jour was cauliflower and chicken and was quite nice.  After though, both F and I said we wished it had been more spicy.

After lunch we went to the Internet cafe for a few hours.  F wanted some massaging chair time, and I certainly wasn’t adverse to that.  I watched a few shows I don’t usually get to watch like Arrow and Almost Human.

When we finally decided to leave, we headed out to Mikawa.  We looked at where the new Don Quixote is going to be, but it isn’t open yet.  We stopped into Nitori to look for Christmas presents and got some very practical ones.  Then, we went to Komeri, a hardware store and got a few things for my brother-in-law. (I nearly typed bother in law, but he really isn’t!)

We went for dinner after that, over to the Okonomiyaki restaurant.  We had a bit of a problem getting in, as the waitress seated someone who came in after us, before us.  F was a bit ticked, but I wasn’t too worried.  We had a couple of okonomiyaki, one with 3 meats and one with kim chee.  The kim chee one was better.

After dinner, it was back to the mall for more shopping.  We looked in Uniqlo, got something, and ordered something else, then basically hacked around the mall.  By now it was quite late, and the mall was closing so we decided to leave.  Still, we’ve done a bit of our shopping and that’s a good thing.

We came home and had a fairly quiet evening.  I watched a bit of TV, F watched a little and I commandeered the TV for Downton Abbey.  I’ll probably miss it next week, but I’ve already seen it, so no worries.

And that was my day.  It was rather nice, busy at both ends, but with a nice quiet bit in the middle.  Unfortunately, I totally spaced on my decluttering today, so I’ll either skip a day or double up tomorrow.  Oops.  Plus my arm hurts, so I can't be expected to clean, can I? Night!

November 14, 2014

Friday - Cold and rainy all day

An okay day.

I got up this morning to an empty and cold apartment.  Sigh.  Still, I did get up and watched The X-Files.  Yes, they have finally taken off Charlie’s Angels!  I’ll take Mulder and Scully over the Angels any day!

F video called me to say he was coming home for a minute.  He did and proceeded to search for something, but I’m not sure what!  He left again soon afterwards.  I sewed on some buttons, my pajamas were losing them.  It was a pain actually. I’d no sooner sewn on one, when another one came off.  Grr!

I took a shower and then got on with my day. I did a bunch of things on my computer and had lunch. I watched Broadchurch…have to catch that next week too. I still don’t know whodunnit.  I tuned in for a bit of R.I.P.D. which was not good.  I wasn’t even tempted to keep watching it when the English news came on.  And, I like the major actors in it too!

I had a late but very yummy lunch.  It was leftovers again.  I had some chicken with cauliflower and my curry-white sauce quesadilla style.  I couldn’t believe how good that was!

I did the dishes and a little while later F came home.  He was so tired that he napped on the couch for a while and we didn’t go out until after 8 pm.

We drove to Haguro and went to a Ramen restaurant that we went to once before.  Luckily for me, they do have other foods besides ramen!  I wanted to have a chicken and vegetable stir fry, but they were out of chicken.  Sigh.  I changed to a “meat” and vegetable stir-fry. I think it was pork. It was quite good really.

We came home via the drugstore to get a few household necessities.  And ice cream.  Don’t judge me!

We came home and had our ice cream and tried to watch a bit of TV.  The reception on my station was bad, so I let F watch whatever he wanted.  Then I watched my stuff later.

F is on the bed, sleeping.  He’s supposed to be taking a bath, but hasn’t got up yet, despite me waking him up and reminding him.  I think I’ll just turn off the bath!

Tomorrow we’re due to go to the doctor’s office and get our flu shots.  It has to be tomorrow so I really hope they don’t take my temperature and think it’s too high or something.  I’m going away the next two weekends so I can’t really do it later.  Sigh.

Anyway, that’s it for me.  Talk to you tomorrow night most likely.  Night!

Oops!  I forgot to update my de-cluttering...I did toss a bunch of stuff today, including 2 umbrellas, some food trays for parties, old tea and coffee, boxes.  Really quite a bit.  Yay!

Thursday - Rainy and cold

A good day.

I got up this morning to check that F had taken out all of the garbage.  There was a lot. He had, which was nice.  I went back to bed, but got up again at 9.  F was still there, he was planning to leave soon though.

He left and I watched my telly, read my paper and had breakfast.  I was just starting to think about my afternoon when I got a call from him.  The car had stopped at a bank and didn’t start again.  Oh no.  He called JAF and they gave him a boost.  Or something, I’m not really clear.  He went to the car dealership and they looked over the car and he bought a new battery for it.

Since he was late anyway, he called me and asked me to go out for lunch.  He came home and picked me up.  We went to a fish restaurant that he likes and had a pretty good fish lunch.  It filled me up for the rest of the afternoon.

After lunch he dropped me off and set out on his way to his meeting.  I came into the apartment and got caught up on some of my stuff.

In the afternoon I took care of my de-cluttering, which involved do a spot of cleaning.  Yay for that.

I  relaxed for a while, but around 7:30 F called to say that he was on his way home.  He expected it would take 2 hours…it took two and a half.  There was a lot of snow in the mountains and the roads weren’t great.  Sigh.

While he was driving home, I made dinner.  I roasted some chicken and steamed a cauliflower, then made a white sauce with curry in it for the veggie. To be honest, I just prepped the white sauce ingredients before F came home, I waited so it would be ready for dinner.  I did steam the cauliflower early though.

Dinner was nice. It was a bit sad that F was too tired to really appreciate it.  We ate and had a nice meal. I did the dishes as F was really tired and I thought he needed a break.

I watched my  usual TV shows, but I didn’t really do any of the things I hoped to do  tonight like crochet, watch a movie or do a few postcrossings.  Sigh.

Oh, the decluttering today was a mixed bag.  I finally tossed (or arranged to be tossed) some old pans, and other stuff from the kitchen including some tea, sugar packets and dried salmon.  I also finally chucked some old lip balm tubes.  It’s getting harder, but I’m enjoying it more.

Got to go. Night!

Wednesday - Cloudy and rainy

A good day.

This was a really quiet day today.  I got up, watched some TV, had breakfast, read the paper, and then did a bunch of laundry.

In the afternoon I watched a bit of TV, did more laundry and folded up my clean clothes.  I had lunch, which was really nice today.  I made a type of quesadilla and it was great!  So delicious.

In the later afternoon, getting on for evening, I started to look at the veggie I had bought for dinner.  I had found Swiss Chard in the grocery store for the first time ever, so had to prepare it.  My mum used to grow it, but I had no idea how she cooked it.  Come to think of it, I might not have even eaten it back then!  Anyway, I found a good recipe and printed it out.

F came home and I kicked dinner prep into higher gear.  I looked at the food I had prepped and at the last minute, I decided to make some couscous too.  It was a good decision.  We had Swiss chard sautéed with garlic and then steamed for a little, plus couscous, with some garlic and pork from the grocery store and a salad.  It was nice and got good reviews.  F had rice with his, but also had a bite or two of my couscous.

The rest of the evening was quite quiet.  I watched some telly from the couch and did a bit more crochet, then went back to my chair for the rest of the evening.  Around 11:45 I did all the garbage up for F to take out in the morning.  There’s three bags to take, I think my decluttering is working!  Usually there’s just one little one.

Speaking of which, today’s cull included old videotapes, underwear, another calendar and a slipper!  I’m quite sure that I’ve thrown out the other one already.

That’s it for me.  Night!

Remembrance Day - Tuesday - Sunny and warm

A good day.

I got up early this morning, watched Charlie’s Angels while I checked my computer and woke up properly!

After a bit I went over to the chesterfield for a bit of crochet and breakfast.  I got all the squares done for my decoration, well the base of them anyway. I watched the finale of America’s Next Top Model and just as I was about to start moving and dressing my phone rang.  F was offering to buy me lunch.  I accepted so I had to hurry up.

We had a nice lunch at Bikkuri Donkey!!. I couldn’t have the lunch specials as they were too high calorie, so I just had a basic hamburg steak.  It was good though, so I didn’t mind at all.  F drove me home afterwards.

During the afternoon I vegged a bit, watched a bit of TV and then finally got a start on dinner. I completely forgot to do any laundry, so I’ll have to do some tomorrow.

F came home about his usual time and I kicked dinner into higher gear.  I steamed broccoli in the microwave, boiled some potatoes and mashed them, and fried some chicken.  Everything turned out well, except the chicken was a little blackened!  It didn’t really burn thank goodness, it just looked bad on one side. Dinner got good reviews and I liked it too.

After dinner and F doing the dishes, we went out to the grocery store.  We bought groceries for the next couple of nights and F bought flour for making bread.  That was the whole reason we went, but he didn’t make any bread.  Ha!

We came home and each of us watched a bit of TV.  I went over to the chesterfield again during Grey’s Anatomy and darned in a lot of ends in my squares.  I also managed to edge one in the white yarn.  It looks pretty cool!

And that’s about it for my night.  It was a good day.  Tomorrow I hope to do more crochet and some laundry too.  I may even finish the book that I’ve been reading for the last two months!  Woot.

Oh, before I go, today’s decluttering included some never used glasses, cups, more books to book mooch and an old calendar.  I’m up to 66 items cleared away.  Some areas are really starting to look better!

Night.

Monday - Sunny

A good day.

I got up early and then went back to bed.  I did manage to get up nearly when I meant to, so it wasn’t a bad thing after all.

After checking my email, I spent some time on the couch eating breakfast, crocheting and reading the paper.  I was also watching America’s Next Top Model and all the insanity that it entails!

I took a shower and then got on with my day.  I got some of my de-cluttering done early and took stuff out of the pantry, and I watched a movie called Bernie. It might be the first time that I’ve ever enjoyed a Jack Black performance.  The director managed to rein him in or he wasn’t that different from the person he was portraying.

In the afternoon I scanned my outgoing cards and also wrapped up a book for Bookmooch.  I took everything to the post office and sent them off.

I came home and a few minutes later F called to say he was on his way home.  I started getting dinner ready.

Dinner was nice and fast tonight.  I did pasta with a sauce you add at the table, plus we had bought smoked duck and salad to go with it.  F had made onion bread over night and I got him to cut it up.  I made tea and we had a nice little feast.

F eventually did the dishes and we had a nice quiet evening. I watched X-Files and then F got to watch a bunch of fighting crap.  Yay for us.  I did some more work on my Christmas project. It’s going quite quickly so far.

And that was my day.  It was quite a good one.  Oh, today I got rid of quite a few things from the kitchen, and some old calendars and put 3 more novels into bookmooch. I hope someone mooches them soon, I’m running out of room in my mooch box!

Gotta go.  Night!

Sunday - Rainy

An okay, pretty good day.

I got up very late today.  I can’t even say this morning because it wasn’t.  I woke up earlier, went back to bed for a snooze until my alarm went off, and then fell back asleep.

When I did get up, F and I went out to lunch.  He chose a fish restaurant, but it is one that I quite like, so agreed to it.  We each had one of the daily specials.  I had fried salmon which was lovely, and F had a flat fish deep fried I think.  Yum.

After lunch we went boot shopping for me.  We went to the Shoe Barn and I got quite lucky there.  At least I hope so! I got a pair of winter boots.  The nice thing is that the top back of the boots open too.  Because my calves are quite large, I often have a hard time finding boots to fit.  These have velcro on them, so I can adjust the back.  They also have a zipper down the front to fasten them.

We went to my wool shop after that, where I picked up a little bit of wool to work on a Christmas craft that I want to try.

We had a drink in Doutors after that.  The mall parking was crazy busy, so we had to park on the roof.  I don’t like it, but what else could we do.

We came home for a bit and then around 7:00 pm went out for dinner.  We had talked about going either for a buffet dinner at the Komagi restaurant or to Krippa for Indian food, but in the car, F suddenly suggested Simon.  (The Si is said like “she”) It’s a nice restaurant, but a little expensive.  Still, it was F’s suggestion, so we went for it.  It was very nice.  We both had the roast pork in a curry sauce, and it came with a sashimi salad, vegetable salad, clear mushroom soup and a bun for me and rice for F.  There was dessert too, chocolate cake and wheat ice cream.  It was gorgeous, with a little bit higher than normal price.  However, we did use a 500 yen discount card that we’d finally filled, so that helped!

We bought groceries after that.  Tomorrow night we’ll be cheap and cheerful with pasta and a salad with duck in it, then Tuesday we’ll have chicken and potatoes and broccolini.  Now, if I could just get someone to cook it all for me!

This evening we came home and relaxed.  I wrote up a couple of postcards and started my Christmas Project during Project Runway.  F has finally taken his bath and should be off to bed soon.

That’s about it for me for tonight.  Tomorrow I do have to go to the post office. I got a book mooch for one of the books I listed last night, so I will pass it off to someone else. Yay!

Today’s decluttering went a little deeper.  I tossed some magazines that I had never read…I used to have a subscription and some of the last ones never had the wrapper taken off.  So about 5 magazines, a catalogue, an old calendar, some coffee and some old pudding mix went out today.  It’s getting harder to come up with things to toss, but it mostly feels good too.

Talk to you tomorrow.  Night!

Saturday - Sunny

An okay day.

I got up when F came back from the doctor’s office and his house.  I was horrified to see that he was wearing the shirt that I absolutely hate, a nasty mustard yellow polyester thing that doesn’t fit properly and no one with any fashion sense would wear.  Sigh.  He wore it all day too, just to spite me.

I got up, watched a bit of telly, and then while he dozed, got the table set up for lunch.  We basically just had the same as we did the night before, make your own pizzas. They were just as good today too! We ran out of pizza bases and so F used a tortilla as a base!  It worked and was quite nice too.

After lunch I was overcome with tiredness and F didn’t seem likely to move from the couch.  I went back to my bed and napped for a bit. I thought I’d wake up in a couple of minutes, but it was a couple of hours later.

When I got up, F still didn’t want to move anywhere and to be honest I got a bit mad at him.  I told him that I didn’t want to sit at home anymore, so we went out for dinner.  Yes, it was 6 pm by now.  We went to Bikkuri Donkey!! and had a pretty decent dinner.  After that, we drove home for F to pick up his medicine.  While we were there, we asked Siri to find us the nearest coffee shop, and she named a place we didn’t know.  We decided to find it.  We did, but it was really crowded tonight and we didn’t have that much time before the move started anyway.

We went to see Lucy at the Tsuruoka theatre tonight.  It was a Luc Besson film, which I didn’t know until after it was over.  It was really interesting and not at all what I expected.

We came home and watched the last half of Orphan Black. I’ve been waiting to see that show forever it feels like, and I missed half of it.  I’ve asked F to DVR it next week when the repeat is on. I think I’d like to keep it.

The rest of the night we just watched some TV.  I watched Under the Dome and Downton Abbey.  I think a very interesting show could be made from blending the two.  Imagine, Downton Abbey Under the Dome?  Or maybe not!

That’s about it for me.  Tomorrow I hope that we’ll run a few errands…I need to get winter boots and get cracking on my Christmas shopping too.  Come back tomorrow night and see what I get up to.  Night!

Oh, PS...decluttering...4 books to Bookmooch, a hair magazine, some old tea, and a couple of things from the kitchen drawer.  Yay!

November 7, 2014

Friday - Cloudy, sunny, a mixed bag.

A good day.

I woke up early, but got up late this morning.  No biggie.  I did my usual stuff this morning, I read the paper and had breakfast, the usual.

In the afternoon, I did my cards up early and ran them off to the post office.  I bought a few more stamps and then came home again.  Once I was home I began working on dinner.

My first task, because it would take the longest, was to caramelize some onions.  I was crying as I chopped them up, but I soon had them in the pan, sweating away.

While they were working their magic in the frying pan, I cut up some of the other veggies and got the table ready for dinner.  When F came home he changed and then we had dinner.

Tonight we had make your own pizzas and it was yummy.  We had bought pizza crusts, and added our own amounts of sliced tomato, bacon, cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions and leftover garlic roasted cauliflower.  Oh, we even had sun dried tomatoes for good measure! I let F make his pizza first and he got into it by loading it up with everything.  He cooked it and then we split it.  It was really good.  He had a surprised expression on his face, he’d forgotten how much he had enjoyed the pizzas we made earlier in the year.  I made mine too, slightly different from F’s and it was yummy too.

F did the dishes, but there weren’t all that many tonight.  He watched a bit of TV, as did I.  One cool thing is that his doctor was on TV tonight.  He’s a nice guy, the doctor, and there was a couple of minutes of him in our city, treating patients and just living his life.

I started watching a movie later on tonight, but I turned it off. It was quite violent and I wasn’t in the mood.  No big whoop.

Anyway, that’s about it for me.  Tomorrow F has some errands to run in the morning and we may go and see a movie tomorrow night.  Also, Orphan Black is going to start on D-Life and I’m hoping to tape it or watch it if the movie finishes early enough.

Oh, yes, decluttering update.  I took stuff from a few areas of the apartment tonight.  I listed 2 books on Bookmooch, threw out some dashi of indeterminate age, tossed some old gum, threw out the plastic postcard covers that I have been saving forever, and a box that used to have Christmas cards in it.  And, threw out a box of Band-Aids that were past their expiry date and weren’t sterile any more.  Things from all over my apartment!  Woot.

Gotta go.  Night!

November 6, 2014

Thursday - Cloudy, rainy.

A good day.

I got up this morning, watched a bit of TV, ate breakfast, the usual. I did manage to do a touch of crochet this morning.

F popped home around 11:30 and asked if I wanted to have lunch later.  I suggested that he come home for a change and I’d make him an omelette.  I got a pre-order from him for fillings and off he went.

I got dressed, made the bed and then started doing a few things in the kitchen to get ready for him to come home. I made tea too.  When he arrived, I was ready to throw a couple of eggs into the pan.  I didn’t eat then as I wasn’t hungry yet, but it was nice to have F home for lunch and have something I was able to give him.  He had omelette with rice and some potatoes from the night before.

He went on his way, and I did clean up, plus a bit of computer stuff.  I had planned to go out for a bit, but I never got around to it.  I always had something to do.

When F came home, he suggested going out for dinner to a tonkatsu restaurant, not the big chain one, but a smaller one man operation.  It was a good call as the food there is excellent.  We went and had tonkatsu.  I had a filet one and it was nice.

After dinner we went to a different grocery store to buy ingredients for dinner.  I decided to try the “make your own pizzas” again, so we bought pizza bases, plus some onions, bacon, cheese, a tomato and some sun-dried tomatoes.  Hopefully it’ll be good.  I also ran into a very long ago student.  We said hi and chatted for a couple of minutes.

In the evening I watched TV.  A lot of TV.  I did prepare the plastic garbage to be taken out, and once again tossed my things for the decluttering.  Tonight I tossed some old teas and the cans they were in, some old cocoa, a magazine and some old, old dip mix that I had hoped to make up once, and never did.  Sigh.  I’m a bit sad about my lapsang souchong tea but the tin was old and rusty on the outside and I doubt I’d had any in the last couple of years anyway.  I also did up 4 postcards and went over to the couch for a bit to do crochet and watch Once Upon a Time.

And that’s it for my day.  It was pretty good after all.  Yay.  Tune in tomorrow for the next scintillating report.  Night!
