Saturday - Snowy and cold

A good day.

This morning I slept in. I went to bed quite late, even for me, so just decided to get up whenever.  It was sometime around 10:30 when I stirred. F was up for a bit, but slept in too.

We got dressed and went out for our lunch.  K didn’t want to go.  We just went to Gusto. It was fine really. I had a burger with salad and a bun, F had a Japanese meal.

F had to get to work, so after a quick detour to the Gyomu Super, he dropped me off at the Internet Cafe. I was able to get a massaging chair right away and spent the next few hours in the chair. I watched a bit of TV, read a bit, had some tea and some coffee and just chilled. When F called me I was rather disappointed! I hadn’t finished my book yet.

I went out with him and we decided to go to the grocery store to get his mother something to eat and then perhaps go to FoodEver and then to a movie. That’s actually what went down.

We picked up a few things at the grocery store and delivered them. F changed out of his work clothes and I changed my socks since one was wet. We drove to FoodEver and had fish at the Fish restaurant there. I had one with roasted potatoes and F had one with roasted and tempura vegetables. We shared an order of sashimi which looked lovely, and also an order of bagna cauda from another restaurant. It was all really good food.

This is Sawara sashimi with oil and salt.  Very yum.
My dish, a local fish with roasted potatoes.  So good!
We were low on time, so paid and then left for the theatre. Tonight we went to see Hidden Figures. I had seen it in Canada on Netflix with my family, but I knew that F would like it. I was surprised how many people went to see the film. I didn’t think that a film about African American women would go over well here, but it seemed to! Anyway, I enjoyed seeing the film again, so that was good.

After the movie, we came back to the house.  It was freezing in our room, something like 9℃. Brr. The heater got things warmed up, but it took a while.

I finished my book and it was fun. I really liked Dorothy Gilman’s novels so hope that I can find the sequel to The Clairvoyant Countess. I will look for it!

And really, that is it for me. It was a good day, so hopefully, I’ll be able to get something done tomorrow for Christmas. I really hope so anyway.

Come back later and find out how Sunday goes. Until tomorrow….

Friday - Snowy!

A good day.

I got up this morning and watched the news, had some tea, same old, same old.  I went downstairs around 10ish to have breakfast with K, only for her not to have breakfast with me!  I tried to make tea for us, but she didn’t want any, and she didn’t eat her cereal while I was in the room!  I had thought about skipping breakfast because I was going out for lunch, but didn’t want her to be alone all day, so had a half breakfast!

I did the dishes and then went to get some of my laundry from the garage.  It was still very wet, but I brought a few pieces over to the house and hung it up.  I got changed into something a little nicer and then around the right time, went downstairs to meet my friend.  She was nearly on time and I went out to meet her.

We went out to Cafe Irodori and spent the next 3 hours or so out there.  We had a lovely lunch.  Today the place had a nice, laid-back vibe and the fact that my friend had her daughter with her made it a nice place to be.  The staff made a fuss of the baby and helped with putting out a chair for her.  Other customers were friendly to the baby too and to be honest, the baby was very good.  I played with her a bit so my friend could eat and we got on very well.  We talked about many things, my friend and I, and it was just nice.

The view from outside the restaurant.  I did mention it was snowy, didn't I?

Sadly, our time ran out and I asked my friend to drop me off at S-Mall.  She obliged.  I got out of the car and did a little window shopping.  I bumped into my husband’s ex-doctor and we said hello to each other.  He was a nice guy and spoke very good English.  He even asked after F, which was nice of him.

I wandered around the mall and did a little shopping, had a rest at one place and then did more window-shopping.  I ended up in Doutor after a while so I could use the free wifi and also start my book.  I’ve just started The Clairvoyant Countess and I’m about a quarter of the way through it.  It’s by Dorothy Gilman (of the Mrs Polifax novels) and I’m finding it an easy, interesting read.

F picked me up after 7 pm.  He’d had to drive out of town today.  He wanted me to think about dinner, so I suggested Sashimiya.  We went there and there was a sign on the door. I thought it might be saying they were full, but it meant that the private rooms were full.  We were able to sit at the counter.  F had a donburi and I had a couple of side dishes, grilled chicken wings and pad thai.  I shared the pad thai with him.  I quite liked what I ate and I didn’t have to eat rice.  Yes!

We stopped off at the grocery store and got a few things, then came back to the house.  F gave K her dinner and then booked himself a massage.  He went off to the place and I stayed in and did some computer things.  I also discovered that Yahoo Groups has disappeared.  Oops. Yahoo, what are you doing?

I was able to watch Castle in peace and to watch Scorpion as well, although I really didn’t care that much about it. F came back a bit later.  After a few snacks, he went to bed.  I had a few snacks too and then stayed up and blogged!

Tomorrow F has to work in the afternoon. It’s quite unusual. I have decided that I am going to go out and enjoy myself. I’ll likely just go to the Internet Cafe for a while, but it’ll be nice for a change.  I’m not sure if I’ll see a movie tomorrow or not. It depends if F feels like it when he finishes work.

Anyway, come back a bit later and see what I get up to.  Until tomorrow….

Friday - Snowy and cold

A good day.

I got up this morning to a sea of white.  It had snowed overnight and it was sticking around this time.  Sigh.  I had some tea and watched the news, made the bed, the usual.  I got dressed too. I went downstairs to have breakfast with K, but she wasn’t there again.  Oh well.  I grabbed my granola and yoghurt and brought it upstairs again.

I drank a lot of tea this morning, so spent too much of the day running downstairs to use the washroom.  How much tea is too much?  I think I had 4 or 5 cups in a couple of hours, so that was probably too much for me!

Around 1 I went downstairs and had lunch with K.  I had bought food for our lunch today at the big mall yesterday, so I heated it up and we had that. It was very nice.  There was tofu hamburgers, a potato/salmon/broccoli with cheese grill thing, salad, and I also served some onion consommé on the side.  It got great reviews and was pretty good.  I didn’t do any real cooking, but I chose things for her that we don’t eat every day.

In the afternoon, I worked on getting our Christmas Letter ready to print out.  It was a tad complicated and I had to learn to use a programme I don’t usually use.  Yay? I even wrote a couple of my Christmas cards.  Hurray, I started them.

After F came back from work, we talked about what to do tonight.  First, he wanted to have dinner here at the house.  We went over to the grocery store and picked up some food for all of us.  We got a few different things to share. I picked 3 mushroom pasta and some roast beef, F picked some ton-don for his mother and also some gyoza with spicy sauce and a couple of other things.  We finished up some salad too.  At the end of our meal we ate the last of his birthday cake, it was still good!

F washed the dishes, I dried and put them away, and then we went out to the Internet Cafe for a few hours.  I was trying to watch Castle, but I fell asleep on it.  I can’t believe it. I was so tired.  At the end of the show, I woke up and wondered what happened. I had DVR’d it at the house, so will watch it later.  For the rest of the time there, I decided to read my book and finally finished it.  I have read it (Fear is the Key/Alistair MacLean) before, but lately, I haven’t found much time to read anything. It’s rather annoying.

We came back to the house and had a quiet rest of evening.  F is in a lot of pain from the changing weather so took some medicine and went to bed.  I stayed up for a bit watching TV and playing on my computer.  I’m not sure what we’ll all get up to tomorrow, but I’ll tell you all about it later!

Until tomorrow….

Friday - Cloudy and rainy

You know how you have a day that you think will go one way and it goes in a way that you never expected?  That was my day today!

F didn’t sleep well last night and was awake when I woke up at 5 am.  He managed to get a little sleep but wasn’t sure if he would go to work today.  He went off finally.

I had a quiet morning, K didn’t want breakfast again today, so I had mine upstairs.  I got a message from my friend asking if I could meet her for coffee. Sure!

I got ready for her, but of course I was ready oodles before she arrived.  It wasn’t a big deal, and I did a little bit of end darning while I was waiting.  When she arrived we discussed where to go and I suggested going to the Kimuraya Factory store.  They have a nice selection of baked goods and free coffee, so I thought it might be nice.  We went and had lunch together.  Yay.

I got back to the house around 2:00 pm and then around 2:30 pm I got a call from F.  He was on his way back.  He’d taken the afternoon off to go to the doctor.  When he got back here he changed and we discussed what to do.  He was all for letting me out at the mall, but the mall was in the opposite direction and I wouldn’t know how long he’d take.  I finally decided to just go with him, so that’s what I did.

We were at the doctor’s office for more than 3 hours.  While we were waiting, I did some reading and also some colouring!  I had brought along my colouring pencil crayons and some postcards that I work on at times.  I even gave a colouring sheet to F and he did some.  It was rather fun.  I did quite a lot of work on my postcard.  F was seen to a couple of times and then we were able to go.  He has to go back tomorrow too.

We talked about what to do for the evening. We decided to get K something for dinner and then take ourselves off to the Internet Cafe.  We did that too.  I just watched some TV and had dinner.

We came back around 10:00pm and had a quiet evening in.  We had a bit of chat time together, then he did his thing and I did mine.

That’s about it.  It wasn’t the day I expected, both F leaving work early and me going out with my friend were surprises, but turned out to be good ones.

Come back later on Saturday to see what we get up to.  Will we see a movie or go to the fireworks?  Will we have a good morning, or a rushed one?  Hmmm.  Until tomorrow….

Monday - Sunny and warm

A bit frustrating day.

Went to the apartment again today, second last time to do that.  We were quiet in the car, didn’t say much to each other.  F dropped me off and I went in. I drank my coffee and decided what to do.  Since I needed to buy my train tickets for next month I thought I’d go and do that and then pick up something for breakfast.

I got to the station and couldn’t find where to park my bike.  I looked at the sign and it seemed to say that the bike parking was behind the station.  Really?  I duly walked my bike through the underpass but when I got to the other side, there wasn’t anywhere to park my bike.  My car, if I had one, no problem.  My bicycle, nope.  I went back to the front of the station and stuck it somewhere.  I go into the station and fill out a form that was all in Japanese.  I wrote in English, but no worries.  When I got to the counter the clerk told me to come back tomorrow because they can’t book train tickets more than a month early.  ARGH!!!!

I biked to the mall and went to the hundred yen shop. I bought a new hat because mine wouldn’t stay on while I was riding, and a new solar light for the garden and some decaf tea.  I went to the bakery downstairs and bought a few things too, then came back to the apartment and ate.

F called about 30 minutes later asking if I wanted lunch. I asked for a salad and when he came 15 minutes later he gave me an onion salad with tuna.  It was surprisingly good, but not quite what I had hoped for.  He was friendly on the phone, but not so much in person to me.

After he left, I got busy.  I tidied up some of the island, I put things away, I wiped all the ledges in the mouldings around the room, and where necessary, the bits around the floor too.  I even cleaned some of the toilet room, I cleaned the outside of the toilet that I thought F had done before.  I don’t know if he did any of it though.

I took a quick shower and then I decided to wash the floors in the bedrooms.  In the second bedroom, I moved the wardrobe out of its corner so I could do underneath it.

When F called, I was nearly finished.  When he arrived he seemed happy at first, but then turned into grumpy man again.  Instead of saying what a good thing it was that I’d done the floors today, he told me off for not following the grain of the wood.  Which I did for the most part, except around the wardrobe.

He went and hid in the closet again when I wouldn’t name a restaurant that would make him happy.  Hey, I know there isn’t actually one.  I told him again tonight that I’d really like to go to a restaurant that would make me happy, but there aren’t any Greek or Mexican restaurants in our city.  He doesn’t seem to twig that I very rarely get to eat food that I really love unless I make it and I haven’t been able to do that in months.

Anyway, I suggested going to the beach with some sandwiches from the store and watching the sunset, he countered with going to see the fireflies.   I was just glad he wasn’t going to make me go to a restaurant so I said okay.  I insisted that we go to a grocery store for food, which we did.  I got some sandwiches and some roast chicken, he got some onigiri.  I also insisted in eating in the car before we went anywhere.  I was damned if I was going to head into the woods with someone who is hangry.  He had actually still wanted to go to a restaurant, but I’m not sure why.

We drove to Yutagawa and to the fireflies area, but didn’t see any at all.  That was sad.

We drove back to Tsuruoka and his house.  We came upstairs and he was nice for the most part, but fell asleep soon.  I really didn’t mind.

Tomorrow is the last day of us having the apartment.  I have a lot to do there, lots of cleaning and last minute packing.  I don’t need attitude from my husband, if I get it, I’ll be very unhappy.

Well, that’s it for me for tonight.  Come back later and see how the last day at the apartment goes.  Until tomorrow….

Friday - Sunny but cool

A goodish day.

I practically fell asleep on my computer last night. I was reading 1984 and then I'd wake up 20 minutes later without understanding the paragraph I'd read 4 times already.  I called it a night and went to sleep.

This morning, F woke me up just after my alarm.  I wasn't sure why, mine goes off before his so I can have a snooze.  He was up, so I got up too.  We went off, stopping at 7-11 for coffees.  He dropped me off near our apartment and I walked in and then took out the garbage immediately.

I had a quiet morning.  I watched yesterday's ER and then today's, and had some breakfast too. After that, I got busy.  I worked on the kitchen table and finally got it cleared off and then cleaned.   By then it was lunch time, so F showed up to eat his lunch.  He left again, so I had my lunch.

After lunch I did the dishes (this is so mundane…sorry) then started washing the walls.  I got the big one done in the spare room, and then moved the stepladder back to the genkan.  I cleaned the walls, the cupboard doors, the door to the apartment and around the fuse box.  Yay me.  It took a bit of doing because I am short and the walls are a bit high, but I got it done.  Yay.

After 5 pm I took a shower and then got a call from F to say he'd be late.  I took a break, had some coffee, and promptly fell asleep!  When he called again to say he was coming home, I was a bit groggy.

When he arrived, he was very tired.  He didn't want to do anything in the apartment.  He was in a lot of pain.  He suggested going to the Internet Cafe tonight, which I was okay with.  He called his mum and she asked for a bento.  We got her one and then dropped it off.  I picked up my knitting and off we went.

We were lucky to be able to get the massaging seats and spent the next 4 hours in the comfy chairs.  We both had dinner there.  I had pasta which was okay but not great.  I watched some TV and also some YouTube.  When the first three hours were nearly up, I woke F up and asked if he was ready to leave.  He wasn't, so we stayed for another hour.  After that, I was really ready to go.  I woke him up again and this time we left.  F paid and off we went.  We went to 7-11 on the way home for some beverages and then went to the house.

F is snoozing again.  I'm not too tired tonight, but I should go to sleep soon.  F is planning an onsen trip for him and his mother in the morning. That should give me another chance to try the internet and call for help if I can't get it to work.  Fingers crossed I can make the machines talk to each other as I am getting so very frustrated using my phone for everything.  Texting is not one of my pleasures!

Come back later and see if things work out, and if we manage to get anything out of the apartment!  Until tomorrow….

Wednesday - Rainy

A good day.

We got up this morning and left quite early.  We did our now usual thing of getting coffee at the 7-11 and then going to the apartment where F dropped me off.

I didn't get to work today as I had plans early on.  However, I took a shower and then did a bit of laundry, so I wasn't entirely a couch potato.

Around 11 am I went to meet with a friend of mine.  We went to Tokai, the yarn shop, where I didn't buy anything, but she did. She was looking for yarn to make a baby blanket, I helped her find it and then we went off for lunch.  We went to Anmol and had some very nice Indian food.  I had a vegetarian curry and she had something with meat in it.  We also had naan, salad and some tandori chicken too.  We had a great discussion about work and family and friends and travel.  It was lovely.

When we had stayed in the restaurant as long as we should, we decamped to Doutor in the mall. We had more discussion there and I used the wifi to update some of my apps! All too soon, it was time for her to go, so she dropped me off at my apartment and went on her way.  I got to work.

Today my task was to wash the walls of the bedroom.  I got them done too, so that was good.  There are a few problem areas, but the room as a whole looks much better and fresher.  F came back to the apartment around 6 and spent a bit of time doing some cleaning of the fixtures in the apartment.  I made us some tea and after a bit, we went out for dinner.

I had suggested going to the new fish restaurant that F likes.  We went there and it wasn't busy at all.  We were directed to a private dining room when we got there, but when we went in, the table was covered in dirty dishes!  There was almost no-one in the restaurant.  I refused to sit down, and went back out again to the main part of the restaurant.  A different waiter appeared and when he saw the dishes directed us to another table.  We did have a nice meal, after all of that.  We both had cooked fish.  F had my usual, gindara, and I had hokke, which was very big and nice. Mine was so big that I shared it with F.

After dinner we hit up the drugstore nearby.  I was having a chocolate craving, so I got some and also picked up some junk food, drinks and shampoo for F.  We also got a card from the shop tonight too.  We shop there a few times a month now, so might as well get one.  We came back to the house after that.

We had a quiet evening in so far.  F is snoozing behind me,  I'm tired, but so far not falling asleep.  I've read a couple of chapters of 1984 tonight. It's a bit confusing, but I see parallels to certain governments.

F is talking about taking tomorrow off if his back is bad.  Of course, I don't want him to suffer, but I also don't want him hanging around the apartment all day.  I have things that I want to get done, and he has a tendency to get in my way, or do things in a different way.  Still, we have a lot to do, and not a lot of time to do them either.

Come back later and see what my Thursday looks like.  Until tomorrow….

 Tuesday - Sunny

A busy day.

Neither F nor I wanted to get up this morning, we were very tired.  I've been going to bed much earlier than usual, since I'm getting up so early these days.  Last night I was early to bed, and early to rise as well.  Boo!

I went over to the apartment with F.  He dropped me off and I took out the garbage, then went back in.  After a little bit of vegging to catch up on the news, I got busy.  I worked a bit on clearing off the table and then after breakfast, I took down the bedroom curtains and slung them in the washing machine.  After that, I cleaned windows for most of the day.

The windows in the bedroom weren't terrible. I had cleaned them a couple of years ago, so weren't in as bad shape as some parts of the apartment, but getting the tracks in the bottom of the window clean was a challenge. I persevered and got it done.

I then began the whole thing over again with the living room windows.  These ones were quite bad since they hadn't been done in years.  I even went out and did the windows outside on the balcony.  F got home just as I was finishing up.  The windows aren't perfect, but they look quite good I think.  I did the walls around them too for good measure.  Yay me.

F was really tired when he came home, but did a little bit of cleaning too.  That was nice of him.  I tried to get him to make us tea, but he didn't.  We rehung the curtains, but didn't put up the lace curtains this time.

Dinner tonight was courtesy of Fireball and it was good.  We had a couple of kinds of pasta, bacon and gorgonzola was mine, F chose pork and mushroom with Japanese style sauce.  They were both very delicious.

We called F's mother, but she said she had food, so we just came back to the house.  She was in bed when we arrived, so F and I just came upstairs.  F is so tired, he's snoozing away. I am falling asleep over my computer, although I did manage to read a little of 1984 first.  I've never read it before.

Tomorrow I'm going to the apartment again, but am also meeting a friend for lunch.  I hope to do a little shopping with her and then I hope to send her on her way.

Well, sad to say, that's it for tonight.  I am falling asleep over my keyboard, so I will wish you adieu.  Until tomorrow….

Sunday - Sunny with a touch of rain

A good day.

I stayed up late last night, almost to my old standards.  I was blogging and then reading Brat Farrar.  It was around 3 before I went to bed.

This morning when F was up and awake, it was very hard for me to drag myself out of bed. I really didn't want to get up, but it had to be done.  F suggested going for breakfast, so we took his mother and went out to Gusto.  Actually, it was quite nice and we all enjoyed it.  I had scrambled eggs and sausage, they had fish, both cooked and uncooked on rice.  We did a little shopping afterwards and then dropped off K at the house.

F and I went back to the apartment and got busy.  During the day, he took a couple of loads of stuff back to the house and we also got the shed emptied and cleaned. Yay us.  Inside it didn't go quite as well.

F was being a bit of a pain.  I spent 20-30 minutes clearing off my computer desk and also cleaning it.  I put it near the door for him to take out.  He then spent another 10 minutes trying to clean off the marks that I couldn't.   There was so much else to do…why re-do my work?

After he left with a loaded car, I did some cleaning, tidying and box filling.  He came back with a snack that was a meal for each of us.  Sigh.

He spent a good 10 minutes trying to get the burn mark off the top of the microwave, the one that I'd tried and failed to get off a few days ago after I had packed up the toaster oven that used to live there.  I was a bit exasperated by that, and told him to clean INSIDE the microwave if he really wanted to help, since I hadn't done that.  Honestly, I wanted him to spend his time going through HIS stuff or doing things that I can't do, like bring down the light covers, since they are a bit high for me, even with the step ladder.   I believe I asked him to do that three or four times today, but it didn't get done.

There is still a huge amount of work to be done.  None of the rooms are completely cleaned out and F still hasn't called the movers to come and take things out for us.  On May 1st, I will not be in the apartment.  I don't even want to move, but I am finishing up on April 30th. I've asked him for blooming weeks to arrange this and he hasn't.  I hope he still can.

We did get quite a lot done today, despite my grousing.  I got my personal furniture out and over to the house.  We have removed quite a bit of the stuff from the apartment.  There are still boxes everywhere and bags of things, but there is a bit more space.  Tomorrow I hope to be able to do more cleaning of walls or windows and also to get a few more boxes out of the apartment, if F is willing after work.

We knocked off around 7 pm tonight and went for dinner.  We went to Coco Ichibanya, the curry place and both had their soup curry with tandoori chicken. It was a bit hotter than I am used to, but it was quite good.  After that, it was back to the apartment where I finished Brat Farrar.  Man, I love that book.  I'm not quite sure what it is about it, but I still enjoy reading the novel even though I've read it at least 10 times.

And that was my day.  I am glad that we got a lot of things done….but now we are coming down to the wire and things must get done.  Fingers crossed that they do get done!  Come back soon and find out about my day on Monday.  Until tomorrow….

Saturday - Cloudy and cool, some rain

A busy but good day.

This morning I was so tired when I woke up.  We slept in a little bit, but left the house before 8:30.  F wanted to see a new doctor, since the one he's been going to for a while is total crap.  He got a recommendation from his old doctor and today was the first time to see the new one.  He dropped me off at the apartment and then left.

I did a couple of small things for myself and then curled up on the couch and fell asleep! I started watching something on TV, but I just let myself go to sleep.  I couldn't really blame myself, I was tired.  I woke up a couple of hours later a bit stiff from sitting in a ball, but a bit more refreshed.

I did some laundry and started to think about packing up some of the clothes on the bed.  F came back to the apartment around 1.  I think he liked the new doctor better.  We did a couple of things around the apartment and then went for lunch to Kappa Sushi.  It wasn't bad, and was kind of fun for a change.  It seemed quite a bit better than it used to be.  We both ate too much however.  It was fun to try different foods though.

We picked up some food for F's mother at the grocery store and took it back for her.  We had a few things in the car too, so unloaded them.  We then went back to the apartment for a while and brought back more stuff to F's house.  We made another trip, and even brought more food for F's mother.

We went to the internet cafe tonight for our dinner and relaxation.  We found that they have new chairs, they are really nice and comfy.  Not as easy to use for me, but still enjoyable.  I watched a bit of regular TV and also some silly YouTube videos, but did a bit of knitting, so that was good.

We left before 11pm and came back to the house.  We relaxed a bit, and F is snoozing away now. I'm going to go to bed soon too.  I might sneak in a chapter or two of Brat Farrar first though.  I'm re-reading it for the umpteenth time and I love it just as much this time too!

Tomorrow we'll be back at the apartment.  I want to get as much extraneous stuff as we can.  This is our last week and we really need to move our butts to finish.  I had planned to do some cleaning today but then I realized that I can do that when F is at work.  I can't take stuff to the house without him.

Anyway, come back later and see what we get up to. Until tomorrow….

Tuesday - Clear and warmish
Valentine’s Day

An okay day.

I got up on time this morning and checked the kerosene tank in the heater. It was nearly empty, so I turned it on and vowed to fill it later.  I had my breakfast and my tea on the couch and then basically snoozed most of the way through White Collar.  When I woke up I made the bed and got dressed.  No big deal.  I also filled up the kerosene tank.

I half expected F to come home around 12, but he didn’t.  I scanned some cards, which took a while as I had a lot to do, both incoming and outgoing.  F did show up after 1 pm though.  He called first and asked me to turn on some water for him for his ramen.  Bleck.  I did though. He left soon after.

I finished up my cards and then ran them off to the post office.  I had also written a short thank you letter so I had to mail that too.  I came back to the apartment as soon as I was done.

I got started on dinner after I had a very late lunch and prepared some vegetables for our dinner.  I let the chicken sit in the fridge with its coating on it.  I waited, and waited, and waited.  F called around 7 to say he was still working and then again at 8 to say he was on his way home.  He’d been waiting at an office for co-workers to drive them back to the office, but they’d left already.  I was quite upset on his behalf to hear that.  What a thing to do to someone.

When he said he was coming home, I started cooking and heating things.  We had roasted chicken in the toaster oven, carrot soup, roasted cauliflower and roasted beets and salad.  It turned out rather well, but again F wasn’t too interested in food.  Sigh.  He did eat more tonight than he did last night.

We had a fairly quiet evening.  F put on a movie and I think he watched it. I watched bits and pieces of it, I wasn’t in the mood.  I sat on the couch and did a couple of squares during the Criminal Minds off-shoot.  I didn’t like it.  For one thing, when people speak non-English languages, they subtitle in Japanese only…boo!  and it seemed a little too much America the Superior to Everyone Else kind of thing.  I don’t know if I’ll add it into my must watch TV schedule or not.

While F was doing the dishes after dinner, I finished my book.  I bought The Miniaturist when I was in Sendai, started it on the bus home and finished it tonight.  It has been a while since I have finished reading a book that quickly!  I really enjoyed it and felt a little discombobulated when I finished it.  I felt out of place in my living room in front of my computer!

And really, that’s about it for me.  It was an okay day here. I got out of the apartment at least.

Poor F didn’t give me a Valentine’s Day present though. I think he was too tired after work to think about it.  Oh dear.

Tomorrow I don’t have too much planned for myself.  Hopefully I’ll get up to something useful!  Until tomorrow….

Sunday - Cold and windy

An okay day.

I slept in quite late this morning and only got up when F went out in the morning.  I filled up the kerosene tank and then unpinned all the squares I blocked yesterday.  They looked good. Yay me.

F came back a little later and we went out for lunch.  We ended up going to Jiro, our favourite local restaurant.  I had my old stand-by dish, pork saute with garlic oil. It was great.

We followed lunch with a trip to the drugstore to pick up some necessaries and then went to Doutor to have coffee in the mall.

F wasn’t feeling very good today, so he wanted to come home.  We did and he ended up snoozing part of the afternoon on the couch.  I read my fabulous book (The Miniaturist) and played around on my computer a bit.

We went for dinner to the Chinese Restaurant near the bridge and it was really good.  I am glad that I managed to talk F out of having ramen there because of course it wouldn’t be up to his standards, but the other food was!

We got some groceries and then came home.  I am going to try and make some carrot soup tomorrow. I am hoping that it will turn out okay!

We had a quiet evening at home.  F watched stuff on his computer and then I joined him on the couch for Downton Abbey and some crochet.  I have three more squares to go and then I am done.  Yay. Of course I still have a few to block and then I have to finish sewing this thing and then I have to edge it. But mostly done now.  I hope!

And that is it for today.  Come back later and see what my Monday is like and if the soup turns out! Until tomorrow….

Saturday - Snowy and cold

A good day!

I slept in a little bit this morning, but got myself up around 10.  I decided not to take a shower, so got dressed and had a cup of tea.

F came home around 10:30 and we left for our doctor’s appointment.  We did the usual hurry up and wait thing.  I had brought my Sue Grafton (X) and I was so close to being done that I almost didn’t want to get called into the office!  No big whoop, we had our 5 second consult and then we were back to the lobby to wait and pay!  We got F’s medicine and then we were off to have lunch.

We had lunch at the Grand El Sun.  It was very nice, but also, how shall I put this, very small!  Honestly, we had chicken almandine and we each got two tiny pieces of chicken breast.  It was very good though!

After lunch I requested that we go to S-Mall to get my bus ticket.  I am coming back from Sendai by myself next month, so need a seat on the bus!  We saw a sign in the mall that said the bus station is moving temporarily and today was the last day for it to be in the usual location.  They are going to redo it! Kind of yay…just hope it doesn’t take too long.

We bought my ticket and then had a snoop around the hundred yen shop, followed by a cup of coffee at Doutors.  It was fun watching people.  We sat at the big central table and two women across from us were falling asleep.  It was a little odd.  When we were finished, we decided what to do and F asked when the movie was.  It was at 3:45, or in about 35 minutes.  I had planned to see the late show, but F wanted to go right away.  That’s what we did.

We went to see Miss You Already with Toni Collette and Drew Barrymore.  We both enjoyed it more than I thought we would.  I think Toni Collette is an amazing actress anyway, so was set to enjoy it!
A quick look at the Machinaka Theater we saw the film in.  It's a very cool building-
a renovated silk factory! Sadly, this showing wasn't very busy.

After the movie, F suggested going to the Evil Place for dinner. I said it was okay because I haven’t been there in ages.  The Evil Place, for those not in the know, is a yakiniku buffet place.  The meat is okay, but they have a lot of other foods too.  Some are good, but some are very unhealthy Japanese foods. After an hour and a half we staggered out of the restaurant and came home.

We spent a fairly quiet evening at home.  I watched Project Runway at midnight and enjoyed it, then let F do a little channel surfing while I worked things on my computer.  I also finished my book.  Yay me! I liked it, but looking at the Good Reads reviews...I might be the only person who did!

That is about it for today.  I’m not sure what we’ll get up to tomorrow.  F should go to his mother’s in the morning, and I’ll probably sleep.  Come back later and see what our Sunday is like.  Until tomorrow….
