Monday - Cold and snowy.
Today was an okay day. I actually woke up this morning when F was getting ready to go to work, so I got up and helped him a little. I warmed up his thermos for him and I gave him a big hug before he left. After he left I stayed up for a while, without the heater on, just reading blogs and email. I went back to bed and slept. I even changed my alarms so I could wake up later.
When I got up I watched a little TV or more than that, cleaned the toilet, got some work done on the internet and then got ready to go out.
I walked to the post office to make a payment for books for my school, then came back and tried to shovel the snow in the parking space. It was quite compacted so I didn’t manage to move much of it. Still, I managed to move some of it so I think it helped. It started snowing and blowing after a while so I gave up and went inside.
I changed to some inside warm clothes and then I swept the inside of our apartment building. I hadn’t done it last week so it was a bit dusty. Today was the last day of our month of doing it, so I wanted to leave people with a good impression.
I came back in and waited for F to come home. When he did, he didn’t even change his clothes before heading into the kitchen to look for food. I was a little annoyed as I was hungry too and wanted to eat dinner fairly soon!
We went to Jiro and had a nice meal. I had my usual, pork saute in garlic oil with lashings of onions. So good! F had a mixed fry which was a bunch of deep fried seafood. Glad I skipped it.
We went off to my school then to check the snow situation. I wanted to shovel a bit, but F said he couldn’t get the car in the gate, then got it in halfway when he turned the car around. Hmm. I went inside the school to set the heater for tomorrow and then we left again.
We stopped at a drugstore and then the grocery store for a few things for the apartment and then came home again. F watched a bunch of crap tv and then at 10ish I started to make muffins. I had bought the mix last year and I just thought that it would be nice to have something for F to grab for a quick bite in the morning.
I made up the mix by adding an egg and some butter to the mix. The box said to use an electric mixer to mix it all, but to be honest I’ve never heard of using one for muffins. I had to cut the butter to pieces, but it seemed to work. I got them all in the oven , but they were quite small. The box said it made 8 muffins, but what it didn’t say was how small they were! Still, I baked something. Yay me!
We watched Hell’s Kitchen and had coffee and a muffin each. They were quite nice little muffins. I’d still prefer bigger ones, but they were all I had! I did a bit of crochet as well during Hell’s Kitchen and enjoyed myself. After the show I watched That 70’s Show which was funny and made both F and I laugh.
That’s it. My day. I got a few things done and that makes me glad. Tomorrow however, I’ll have to leave early for the school as my student is coming early and I’ll have to shovel a massive amount of snow in a short time. Sigh. Night!

Sunday - snowy and cold.
Today was a good day. I went to bed late last night so I slept in late today. I didn’t get up until after noon, but it was okay. F had gone out to have a massage so it wasn’t a big deal.
When he came home, he went out again to take his mother shopping. There’s so much snow it is hard for her to get out, and she’s got a bad knee. While he was out I did some actual work on my computer and then we went out.
We had a quick and tasty lunch at Kintaro sushi, then came home for F’s cell phone. Next we headed out to the mall.
At the mall, F wanted to buy himself some new jeans so we looked in a couple of stores and he finally got himself some in a jeans store. They’re okay. I would have kept looking personally, but he didn’t want to. I don’t have to wear them, so I don’t care too much!
I picked up my clothes from the tailor. I did try on one of the pairs of jeans I bought, the one that I had the back taken in. They fit perfectly now. Yay.
We had a drink at Seattle’s Best Coffee and then headed back to Tsuruoka. We went directly to the movie theatre to see what was playing and when. We arrived around 5:30 and Unstoppable was playing at 6:10 so we decided to go and see it. F bought the tickets and then we had a quick and delicious meal in the restaurant in the theatre. It was tonkatsu with mozzarella cheese. Yum.
I got the popcorn and drinks and we headed into the theatre. F immediately dropped his popcorn all over the floor. Sigh. He went to get a broom to clean it up and I went to the ladies. When I came back, they’d given him more popcorn. Wow! Nice. I was going to buy him some more, but I didn’t need to.
The movie was great. I really enjoyed it. Where I grew up in Canada we were very near a railway crossing and twin track. We would hear trains at all hours of the day and night and to be honest, this film brought back all kinds of memories about being near the tracks. Unstoppable had Denzel Washington and Chris Pine in it and it was great to have two guys in the film that looked like they knew what they were doing. There are a couple of parts where the actors have to do stunts, but the stunts are believable. There aren’t any huge leaps from train car to train car, there are mishaps and people get hurt. F and I were talking afterwards and he said it was a bit like DieHard on a train, but I said it was more like Speed on a train. There’s no evil guy trying to get money! It’s fun, so if trains or the story sound exciting, check out the movie.
We came home after the movie and had a quiet night. I watched a few minutes of The Transporter (JASON baby, yeah!) before switching over to see Return to Witch Mountain with The Rock or Dwayne Johnson as he now prefers to be called. It was fun. I got a kick out of the cameos of Ike Eisenmann and Kim Richards from the original Witch Mountain movies…except of course I never got to see them.
We watched Nighthawks with Stallone after that, and when it finished I watched the end of Veronica Mars. I’m not sure if the series is over or not, but the show tied up a lot of loose ends. (I know the series is over, just not sure if the station has more episodes to show or not.)
And that was my day. It was a good one. Tomorrow I have lots of little things to do, so I’d better get to bed so I can do everything I need to. Night!

Saturday - Snowy then gorgeously sunny, then snowy.
Today was a good day today. Hurray for that!
I had a good night’s sleep and then when we got up this morning we had a fairly quiet relaxing morning. We left a little early for brunch. F had breakfast at Gusto, I had lunch.
He dropped me off at my school and I got busy. I cleaned off the walkway and then the front steps to the apartment building. I even cleared a path to the road and put a step in it as the jump up was quite high.
I went in the apartment and started to get ready for work. My student came and we had a good lesson, except later I realised that I’d kept her textbook. Oops. Well, I’ll give it to her next week.
After her class I went outside and shovelled snow. I did that for a long time! I shovelled for about an hour and a half. It wasn’t as bad as you might think because the sun was shining and it was quite warm.
When I had enough I went back into my school and relaxed for a while. I did paperwork, and read the paper. I also watched and listened to another couple of podcasts.
My last class of the day went quite well. We started a new textbook today and it seemed to be okay. Hurray for that!
After class, I did my paperwork, then I did dishes and got changed. I called F and he came to get me.
We had a nice dinner in Moku-Moku and then came home. F watched a couple of TV shows in Japanese and then I demanded the TV for Top Gear and now Burn Notice! I’m not that mean, I told him he could watch what he wanted for a while until my shows were on.
And that was it. My day was good. I’m quite stiff and sore now though. I hope I’ll be okay in the morning. Night!

Friday - Cold with lots of snow.
I had an okay day today. I got up on time despite going to bed really late last night. I watched the news, drank some coffee and just decided to take a nap. I went off to sleep for around an hour. It left me feeling very refreshed which was a good thing.
Before I did any shovelling, I took these photos.
In the afternoon I went out and shovelled snow in our parking space and around our building. I managed to knock some of the snow off the top of the mound of snow behind F’s parking space, but it was still quite high. I got the entrance to the apartment cleaned up very well and then went inside again.
I watched a bit of CSI: New York and then after I heard from F that he was coming home, looked out the window to check the parking space. I nearly cried. It was covered over again. Ack.
I went outside again. The doorway that I had so carefully cleared of snow was under a couple of inches and while our parking space wasn’t in deep snow, it was covered again. I sorted it out again and went inside.
When I came back in I got another message from F that he was finally on his way so I got dinner started. I peeled the potatoes and set the table. Normal things.
After F arrived and we chatted for a bit, I got dinner underway. I heated the soup and started the potatoes boiling. We ate the pumpkin soup (from the store) and then I made mashed potatoes and cooked the pork. Everything came together nicely and we had a nice second course!
F did the dishes and then we went out to my school. We had just gone over the little bridge near our apartment when we saw a car blocking the road. It was trying to get into a garage but wasn’t able to. He went over to help, which was really nice of him. After a few minutes the people managed to get the car in the garage and off the road. We continued on our way.
When we arrived at the school it was quite obvious that no one else had come out of the parking lot for a couple of hours. The entryway was still really narrow and there were about 5 inches of snow in my space. Sigh. I walked over to my apartment. Along the walkway there was a lot of snow. Quite a lot to be honest. I set the heater and then came back out to meet F.
We drove back home and decided what to do. We’re going to fax one of my students tomorrow and discuss things like parking with her mother.
I think tomorrow I’ll be going to my school a little early and I’ll try to clear the front steps and the walkway to my school. I’ll have to decide about the parking space. Right now I’m not sure if my students will be able to come into it or not.
Anyway, at home tonight we watched last night’s ER. It was interesting to see as John Carter came back.
That’s about it for me for tonight. Tomorrow night, if I don’t get lost in the snow, I’ll tell you all about my day. Night!

Thursday - Snowy. What else? Yawn.
What a day! I got up this morning a little bit late, but it didn’t matter. F managed to get himself off to work.
I had a fairly quiet morning in the apartment. I watched a bit of TV but nothing exciting. I was keeping an eye on the weather as I wanted to leave early if the weather turned bad.
I started making lunch and after I ate and cleaned up, I checked the weather again. It was coming down like crazy. There were big soft snowflakes everywhere. Blech. They weren’t staying on the ground, at least at first, but it was the kind of snow that makes you very wet and would stay.
I got dressed up and walked to my school. I did a little shovelling, but not a lot as the snow that fell wasn’t sticking where I cleaned it last night. I went into the school and got ready to teach. Then I heard an awful sound. The snowplough.
I peeked out my big window and sure enough, the snowplough was going down the side road, wreaking havoc with its blade. To be fair, when the plough passed an opening, it did go back and try to clear it better, but it still left a big mess in its wake.
I had about 25 minutes before my student was going to come so I got dressed for outside and then grabbed my shovel and went. There was a guy working on the entrance way already, so I gave him a hand. To be honest, I was really surprised that someone else even did a bit because I’ve never seen anyone else do snow shovelling at that apartment building! We soon had it clear enough for him to drive out, so off he went. I had to go too as my class was going to start.
My class did start, and only a couple of minutes late. After class I checked the snow situation and it was okay.
My second student of the day was late. She’s never late. Finally I got a text from her saying she was parking somewhere and walking. Sigh.
When she arrived I got the whole story. She wasn’t able to drive into the parking lot as the opening was too narrow. So, she’d parked in a local drugstore and walked. It must have taken her at least 10 minutes to walk back, so I felt very bad for her. She had to leave early too as the store was going to close at the same time her lesson ended. I’ll most likely give her extra time on another lesson some day to make up for it.
I did some paperwork, looked at my first Saturday class and then called F. He picked me up and tonight we had our dinner at Grado. It was quite nice. We had pork and chicken with soup, salad and appetisers. Quite delish.
We hit up the grocery store to get us a few things for tomorrow’s dinner. Yep, I am finally going to cook a bit. Watch out world! We came home and that was that! My day.
There were some other things like a bit of semi-heated discussion about one of the groups I moderate, but compared to yesterday, today was a pretty good day. Tomorrow? Who knows? Check back in and find out how it goes. Night!

Wednesday - Warmer with a bit of snow.
Not a great day if I’m honest. Read on!
I woke up this morning just before F had to leave for work. He got up, I stayed in bed.
I was a bit late getting up for the news, so I resolved to set the vcr for it from now on.
I had a quiet morning around the apartment. I watched Obama’s State of the Union address and was quite impressed. He is a very good speaker. I realised after 12 that I was still in my PJ’s so quickly got dressed.
I went outside and did a bit of snow shovelling. It wasn’t difficult, but the snow had so much water in it that it was very heavy. Also, the big pile of snow behind F’s parking space is over my head now so it’s a bit hard to put snow on the top of it for me.
F came home and was in an odd mood tonight. He started eating snack food, completely forgetting we were supposed to go and get stuff to make dinner. I reminded him we were going to make nabe and he said he didn’t want to make it anymore because I didn’t like the last one he made. Thing is, I did, after he added more flavouring to the soup. Don’t know what goes on in his head sometimes.
Anyway, we decided to eat out, so went to Cafe Framboise for a nice meal. I had chicken with cheese on top, F had the Japanese set meal. When we left the restaurant there was a bit of snow and it wasn’t nice out.
We drove to my school to set the heater and that’s where it all went wrong. F drove around to the parking space to “help” me shovel the snow. He drove into the parking lot and promptly got stuck. Our car is very low at the front so it doesn’t do well in bumpy territory.
I went to my school and grabbed the shovels. F shovelled a lot of snow and did all the things you are supposed to do and finally got out of the middle of the parking lot. While he did that, I shovelled the snow in my space.
He got himself out of the parking area and promptly got himself stuck in the entrance way to the parking area. He called the man who sold him the car (from the dealership) and he came to help. (Supreme customer service or what? 10 pm on a snowy night.)
They worked together for a bit and managed to get the car out halfway into the road. Where it remained firmly stuck. They called JAF. I called a time out and went into my school.
I hadn’t dressed for staying outside for so long and I recently seem to have developed chilblains so didn’t want to stay out any longer. I went into my school and worked on a puzzle then did some reading.
It was after midnight when F finally picked me up. I don’t know how they did it, but they got the car out.
F and I drove to the grocery store where we bought a few necessities and then came home. We tried to relax a bit but it took a while before either of us managed it.
That’s it. A weird day really. Got to get some sleep now. Night!

Tuesday - Warm and sunny, bit of snow at night.
Today was a good day. I woke up when F left, but I didn’t get up. I felt a bit sad after all, but the sleep I got made up for it!
Later, I got up, watched the news and then had a quick shower. I didn’t have a long relaxing day at home today as I had to be at work early in the day.
I ate lunch and left home around 1 pm. I stopped at a convenience store to get a snack for later along the way. When I got to the school I grabbed my shovel and did a bit of snow shovelling. I was rather lucky and didn’t have to do too much. The work we’d done last night was worth it. Yay.
I had two classes today and they went fairly well. I went out in the middle and checked the space, did a little shovelling, but not a lot.
After my last class I put up a couple of Valentine’s Day decorations that I bought in Canada and then did my paperwork. I called F around 9 pm and he came to get me.
We had a quick and cheerful dinner in New York, New York then stopped at the grocery store for tomorrow’s dinner. We discussed making another nabe and I agreed to let F make a fish nabe for us IF he could get decent fish. I didn’t want to have to eat bits of eyes or really bony fish. Yuck. He agreed.
However, the grocery store didn’t really have a lot left that would be suitable so we decided to come back tomorrow and see if they had anything then.
We came home and watched a repeat of American Idol. It was the Stone’s week, so quite fun. I also got started on my new hat. Yep, I’ve decided to make myself something for a change. I didn’t get a lot done, but it looks okay so far.
That’s it for me. No firm plans for tomorrow so I’ll leave you all waiting desperately to hear what happens to me! Got to go. Night!

Monday - Clear and sunny.
An okay day. I got up with F this morning, said a sleepy goodbye to him and then went back to bed. I stayed in bed until my usual get up time. Sadly the news wasn’t on. It was golf instead. Not my favourite thing.
I had a quiet day at home. I watched the TV I’d taped on the weekend with a bit of news in the middle. In the afternoon after lunch I went outside and shovelled some snow for F. It was really heavy and wet so was more work than I thought it would be. When I came back in I vacuumed the apartment and then did my dishes for the day.
When F came home we went over to my school to set the heater for tomorrow and to do a bit of snow shovelling. F did a lot, much more than I had wanted him to do. However, it was a big help to me. If it doesn’t snow overnight I can probably leave a little later for work. It’s a big if though.
We came home via the drugstore and then F made dinner. It wasn’t a difficult one, he made nabe. We’d bought all the ingredients yesterday, so he just had to throw it together. I made coffee and then we ate. It was okay. Halfway through our meal he made more soup base and that helped with the flavour. F makes really strange bases for nabe. I honestly prefer the pre-made ones as they taste good!
I did the dishes and F watched horrible fighting on the TV.
At 11 we watched Hell’s Kitchen and I tried out our new popcorn popper. Before I went to Canada I’d bought a microwave popcorn popper that you can use to make caramel popcorn. I didn’t do that today, but I did try the popcorn. Basically I had to ignore the instructions. I left the popcorn in for double the time and it worked much better. I think I’ll need to try it again. Admittedly our popcorn is a bit old so it might not be a fair test of the popper. Still, we made some without oil. Yay us.
I watched Backstage Pass and then That 70’s Show. It was a repeat but was still funny.
That’s about it for my day. It wasn’t too bad at all. Quiet and a bit dull. Tomorrow I have an early class and then I’ll have a gap in my day. Wish me luck! Night.

Sunday - Sunny with a few flurries.
We had a good day today. F and I both stayed up late, but as usual he was up before me. However, I was up before 11 am and that was before my alarm went off so I don’t feel too bad.
He ran a few errands like getting kerosene for his mother before he came home. When he did, I was watching Whiteout so I taped the last 30 minutes of the movie and we headed out for lunch.
We went to the Daiichi Hotel for lunch and it was okay. We both had pasta, although we had different types. The reason I suggested the Daiichi was the mall has a photo booth at the entrance and I wanted to use it. I have to renew my Alien registration card soon and needed to have a new photo taken.
We headed out to Mikawa mall after lunch but got caught in a traffic jam. Since F had forgotten to bring his medicine and to buy gas for his car I suggested turning around and buying the gas and some kerosene for us and then getting his medicine. That’s what we did.
Next we headed out to the mall but on a different route. We made great time and when we were there I had some of my new pants measured and put in for alterations. It sucks being short!
I suggested going to a movie so we checked the theatre. The Green Hornet was going to be playing in about 30 minutes so we decided to see it. It was…okay. I was disappointed and thought that there was a lot of potential that wasn’t fulfilled. Sigh.
We drove back into Tsuruoka for dinner. We went to Coco Ichibancha and had curry. They had a “Grand Mother’s Curry” special on so that’s what we had. It was fine.
We came home via the grocery store and bought the makings for tomorrow night’s dinner. Looks like it’ll be nabe again.
We dropped off the ingredients and then went out again to the bookstore. We’re going on a small road trip in March and F wants a travel book for his planning. We’ve actually booked our hotels already so that’s a good thing.
We watched a bit of TV here at home and then F went to bed. I should go soon.

Saturday - Cold and snowy.
Not a great day to be honest. I went to bed a bit late last night. Apparently I woke up my husband. Sigh. He proceeded over the next few hours (yes, I wrote hours) to wake me up about 3 times. When I finally protested he got out of bed and went to sleep in another room. Needless to say I didn’t have a great night.
In the morning I got up to an empty apartment. I took a shower, watched a bit of news. When F came back from his doctor he went back into the room and never made an appearance.
As I had to get to work and had no idea what was up with him, I left the apartment. I walked to work. He must have followed me or something as when I passed by the grocery store he was at the exit in his car and honked at me. I flipped him the bird and continued. (Childish, but I HATE being honked at.)
I bought my breakfast and lunch at a convenience store and then continued. At my school I got out my shovel and dump and attacked the snow at the front of my apartment building. When I went to to the back of the building I was really surprised as there wasn’t any snow. I assume that F had come by at some point and cleared off the snow.
I went into the school and sent him a text saying thanks for clearing the snow. Then I got to work.
I had a pretty standard Saturday except one of my students called to say she was ill and couldn’t come. It sounded serious.
I had to go out in the middle of the day to do a little more shovelling, but it wasn’t too bad. Just the fact that I had to go out again to do any was a pain though.
After my work I read for a bit and then called F and asked him to pick me up. He did, and suggested our favourite yakiniku place for dinner. We went there and had a good meal.
We’ve been fine this evening so far. He watched something and then I watched Top Gear followed by Burn Notice. Top Gear was hilarious as usual. I missed it when I was in Canada!
That’s about it for my day. I’m quite tired and might go to bed soon. Oh, wait, one more thing…I wore wool socks yesterday without anything under them and now my feet are incredibly itchy. I’ve been putting skin cream on them but when it wears off I just want to scratch my skin off. Ack.

Friday - Cold with a bit of snow.
I woke up this morning because my husband woke me up again. I’m not sure what his problem is these days. Anyway, I got up and even toasted an English Muffin for him so I got a few brownie points!
After he left, I went back to bed for more snoozing. I needed it.
I had a quiet morning and day. I watched the news and then The Bells of St. Mary’s. It was good. I don’t remember ever seeing it before. Ingrid Bergman was incredibly beautiful in the film and I liked Bing Crosby more than I thought I would!
I got my book order for my school today. Yay. The parking lot was ploughed as well, so I didn’t really have to do any shovelling out there.
In the evening I went to do the building sweeping and discovered that there was a lot of snow right outside our building. I did a quick moving of it and I went over to F’s space and shovelled around the blocks at the back. I finished with a quick sweep of the apartment lobby, but it really didn’t need it too much. Yay.
F came home and was in an odd mood. He didn’t want to talk to me, he just needed food. He wanted to go to a horrible place and I said no so he got mad and threatened to go alone. I suggested a better place (with a similar menu) and that was okay with him.
We drove to the restaurant. It looked closed, but as we were going to drive away, I noticed two women going in the place. Then, the outside lights went on. We decided to try. We went in and had a nice meal. We had tempura, sushi and ume udon. I’d never had the latter before and it wasn’t bad. I like ume flavouring a lot, so enjoyed it.
On the way home we paid our phone bill and then dropped into my school so I could set the heater for tomorrow. I’ll have to shovel snow, but hopefully it won’t take too long.
We came home, F watched some TV and then took his bath. I put on a weird movie with Ashton Kutcher that was a lot more adult than I thought it would be. F came back and went straight to bed, didn’t even say good night to me. Sigh.
And that’s about it for me. Tomorrow I have 3 classes scheduled so I won’t be home for most of the day. We don’t have any plans for the weekend which can be a bit scary. Got to go. Night!

Thursday - Cold and snowy.
An okay day today. F woke me up again this morning, but he was basically saying goodbye so it wasn’t a big deal today. I slept on for a bit then got up and got on with my day.
I had a bit of a quiet day around the apartment this morning. I showered, made the bed and vegged for a bit.
In the afternoon I had lunch. I heated up my soup and had some of that, plus a few other things with it. Then, I headed out.
There hadn’t been much snow in the daytime when I left, so I didn’t bother clearing F’s parking space. It was still visible. The walk to work wasn’t that nice today as there was quite a strong wind. It wasn’t exactly cold, just hard to see. At one point I looked up and coming towards me was an ominous white cloud. It blocked everything that was behind it. When it reached me I couldn’t see anything for a minute. Horrid.
At my school I grabbed my shovel and scoop and went back into the snow. I cleared the front steps first as that was how my first student usually comes to my school. After that, I went over to the back and cleaned out my space. There was quite a bit of snow, but I got a system going and had it cleaned out fairly quickly. My snow removal took about an hour in total. The bad thing was that some strong wind came up in the middle, so I’d spend a few minutes putting my hood on, and then taking it off again when the wind died down!
I went into my school and got ready. I was set up for the class, but I had other things to do. The student came on time and we had a good lesson. His ride came to get him a bit early, but I let him out and he got his little goodie bag from Canada. I hope he likes it. When the student left I noticed a lot of snow on the path outside my door. Oh no! I peeked outside and sure enough, we’d had another couple of inches of snow. Yikes. In two hours? Not fair.
I did a partial clothes change and then I went outside and shovelled snow. It took a few minutes, but was coming down as fast as I could shovel it. It was a bit like hail too, lots of little hard balls of snow.
Back in my school I made a mad dash to get ready again. I noticed a lot of snow on the floor. The hood of my jacket had caught a lot of the snow and it fell all over the floor of my classroom. Ack.
My student came a few minutes later and we had a good class. She liked the souvenirs that I gave her and we chatted about a few things before getting down to business.
After class I cleaned up, did paperwork and prepped another class for her. I called F a little early but there was no answer. I read some newspapers and then he called me a little later.
He picked me up and we went to Cocos. It wasn’t busy and we had a nice meal. He had some non-alcohol beer and some appetiser things, I had a cheese hamburger steak and salad. Mine was very nice.
We came home tonight and didn’t go to the grocery store. We might cook at home tomorrow night, we haven’t really decided yet. We watched ER and it was good, if a bit sad. Next week though Carter will be back on. Yay! I’m sad that the show is ending, but it’s really nice that the alumni are coming back to “finish” their story lines. I like that.
And that’s about it for me. It’s still snowing I think. I’m getting tired of it. We need a few days of warm weather to melt all this white stuff. Probably won’t happen though. Night.

Wednesday - Cold with snow.
F woke me up this morning to say that there was a lot of snow outside. I got up and got dressed in case he wanted me to go out and help, but he seemed to make out of the parking lot without my help.
I went back to bed and slept a bit longer.
When I got up I watched the news and then turned over and watched the end of the fabulous It Happened One Night. Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert were amazing together. The dialogue in that movie just crackles along. Aaron Sorkin could have written it!
I had a busy day at home. I changed the bottom sheet on our bed and spun the mattress around for good measure. I did a couple of loads of laundry and I made soup. The latter took quite a while and I had to stand for most of it.
In the afternoon I wrote a condolence letter to my former teacher in Scotland. She lost her husband before Christmas and I only found out after I came back from Canada.
I ran off to the post office to mail the letter and then on the way back I shovelled some snow from F’s parking space.
F came home a bit later and after he changed we went out. We drove to my school and I set the heater for tomorrow. While I did that, F did a bit of work on my space for me. We came home via the grocery store to pick up some milk and a few other things.
At home I served dinner. I toasted some bread and served the soup. It was good, but not quite as good as last time I made it. This time I didn’t precook the veggies and I think it made a difference. Oh well, live and learn.
F did the dishes and then we watched The Recruit. It was a so-so film with Al Pacino and Colin Farrell. I saw the plot twist a mile away.
We’re now watching the finale of So You Think You Can Dance. It is good, but so far they haven’t done my favourite routine of the year. They might not of course!
And that was my day. It was okay really. Tomorrow I’m back to work. I really hope that I can walk properly. My feet are so sore. I think it might be the rubber boots with no support. Sigh. Got to go. Night!

Tuesday - Changeable weather, but not much snow.
I had an okay day today. I woke up at the same time as F did, but stayed in bed! I did offer to make him a bit of breakfast so I don’t feel too guilty.
When I got up I was going to take a shower, but found an old Olivia de Haviland film on WOWOW so I watched it for a while. It was The Snake Pit and was quite good. It was all about mental illness.
I took my shower after that and had a quiet day around the apartment. I didn’t do my laundry today as the last bunch I did wasn’t dry yet.
I made my lunch before 3 pm and then a little after 3 I went to work. I did a little snow shovelling at F’s space here at the apartment then walked to my school and did it all over again. There was quite a bit of snow at my school. We hadn’t cleared all the way to the ground last time so the snow continued to build rather than to melt. I cleared quite a lot of snow today. Yay for me!
When I finished I went inside and got ready for my class. I read some of the newspapers and had some tea.
My student came on time and we had a good class. We had both gone away during the holiday season so we dished about our trips. I think my student had a great time on hers.
After class, I finished up and then called F to pick me up. We decided to go to New York, New York tonight but they were closed, so we tried Fireball instead. It was really good. I had a fish and mushroom pasta in a tomato cream sauce that was terrific, and F had a pizza that was nice.
We came home via the grocery store for some lovely veggies for the soup I’ve decided to make tomorrow.
At home, we watched So You Think You Can Dance. They’re at the top 4 now and so the caliber of dancing was really good. F and I enjoyed the show.
And that’s about it. I did finish reading my novel today. I finally finished The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters today. A creepy little story of something going wrong in a strange house.
Gotta go. Guess I’m not quite over my jet lag yet! Night.

Night.

Monday - Cold and snowy, but with a few hours of sun during the day.
I had a good day today, for the most part. I got up with F, but didn’t stay up as he was in a hurry and had to rush off. I got up a bit later.
I watched the news today and then the episodes of ER from when I was away. I enjoyed them a lot. I also did a lot of laundry. I still have a couple of loads to do, but I got a lot done today.
In the afternoon I decided to register for the convention this summer. F has told me that I can use my ANA points to fly to Tokyo, so that would really help out the cost of the trip. It’ll also give me a place and reason to wear my gorgeous new dress!
I walked to the post office to make my payment and also to send off a couple of cards and a package to my friend in Canada. No big deal really, just better to do it sooner than later.
I came home and did a lot of shovelling in F’s parking space. I didn’t get it completely cleared of snow and ice, but I improved it a lot. I gave up when the weather got nasty again.
I came into the apartment and got a start on dinner. I chopped up some dried tomatoes, an onion and a garlic clove and mixed them with the meat for tonight’s dinner. I put it back in the fridge to blend the flavours.
When F came home we went out again to the drugstore. As I was walking to the post office today, I realised that my new boots didn’t have any cushion between the sole and my foot. It’s cold right now. I got a pair of insoles, and then some things for the apartment, including dishwashing liquid and hand-soap.
We made a quick stop at my school to drop off some stuff and to set up the heater for tomorrow night. I’ll have to get over there a bit early to shovel snow, but I want it to be warm for my class.
Back at home again, I cooked dinner. It was quite good. We had coro-coro steak with onion and garlic, sautéed. I added some nice ketchup and it made it quite good. We had some microwaved veggies and a salad too. Turned out well.
The rest of the evening was fairly quiet. I “booked” the TV for the night as L.A. Confidential was on. Yes, I’ve seen it before, but it is such a good film that I had to watch it again! I don’t think F was impressed, but his choice for the evening was K-1 fighting so tough break dude!
He’s off sleeping and I’m staying up a bit late. I’m a tad tired, but I do seem to be mostly over my jet lag. Yay.
I had a busy day. Tomorrow I’ll be off to the school and will be shovelling snow before I teach. Oh joy. Let’s hope it doesn’t snow much overnight or I might have to give up the fight.
Night.

Sunday - Snowy but not too cold.
A good day. I woke up early today, but managed to stay in bed until F got up to go to the onsen.
I got up, did some computer stuff and then when he came back home, we went out.
We first went to the post office to pick up a parcel from a relative of mine in England. I got a calendar and an apron. Very cool.
After that, we drove to Sakata and went to Kappa Sushi. We had sushi. It was fun and we enjoyed it.
F and I drove to the mall then and checked on the movie’s time. We had lots of time so we did a bit of coffee drinking, then some shopping. I got myself some yarn to make myself a hat to go with my winter coat. I hope I really do it!
We went to see The Social Network and it was really good. I thought the writing and the acting was excellent. I am a big fan of Aaron Sorkin from The West Wing and like that show, this movie’s dialogue just went at a furious pace. It was a smart movie and treated the audience like smart people. Refreshing.
We did a little more shopping after the film. F bought me a new pair of rubber boots. These ones were taller than the ones I got last year. With the huge amount of snow we get here it is really important to have tall boots!
We had dinner in an okonomiyaki restaurant near the mall and then drove home via the grocery store.
We had a very quiet evening at home, didn’t really do too much, just computer and chatting.
That was our day. It was quite good. Night!

Saturday - Snowy then clearing finally.
I’m really tired today so this’ll be short.
There was a lot of snow out this morning so I wanted to cancel my classes, but F wouldn’t let me. He went off to the doctor and then came home again. We left to have our breakfast around 10:30 and had an okay meal in Gusto.
We went to my school and both of us shovelled a lot of snow. I worked on the front of the school, F did the back. When I left to prepare my class, he was still there. He called me later, just before my class to say he’d gotten the car stuck. I went out to help and then saw that he’d hit a snowbank and had smooshed the front of the car. Sigh. Unfortunately, my student arrived then so I had to go and teach. F was lucky enough to get out with the help of some people in the neighbourhood.
I had two classes happen today. The one in the middle didn’t as the student was in Tokyo and had forgotten our class. Sigh. Oh well.
After school, F came to get me and we had tonkatsu at a local restaurant. The car wasn’t too bad and there isn’t much of a dent.
We came home and had a snuggle. I fell asleep and woke up a couple of hours later feeling really groggy. I really just want to go back to bed. Can’t believe that I’m still this jetlagged. The idea of going to bed at 1:30 on a Saturday night is so not me! F likes it though.
Goodnight!

Friday - Snowy but not terribly cold.
I got up with F this morning again and made him some toast. I’m not sure I’ll be able to do this next week as I very nearly didn’t get up with him today! Still, I think he enjoyed it.
I had a quiet day today. I watched a bit of TV in the morning and then went outside and shovelled snow in our parking space. Then, I swept the lobby of our apartment building. Once again it is our month to do it.
I came back into the apartment and watched Project Runway. It was fine.
Around 5 I went back outside and re-shovelled the parking space. It had filled up again. Sigh. I can’t really bear to think about my school’s space.
When F came home we had a cuddle and then went out. First we went to my school to set the heater for tomorrow, then we went to the grocery store for bacon. I had wanted to do a bit of snow shovelling at my school, but F was in a bad state and didn’t understand me at all.
We came home and I cooked dinner while someone had a naplet. He came through when I called him. We had quite a good meal. It was asparagus bacon, chicken wings, salad and chawan-mushi. I had three pans going at once on my stove, quite different from usual.
F did the dishes and then collapsed back into bed. He’s supposed to take a bath, but I don’t think he will.
Anyway, I’m off. It’s just gone midnight, but I’m really tired, so I’ll catch you tomorrow night. Bye!

Thursday - Cold and a little snowy.
Last night I went to bed at 10:30 again and woke up around 7:00 this morning. I got up with F again and made tea and toasted a couple of English Muffins for us. He didn’t have time to drink all of his tea, but that was okay I think.
This morning I watched the news and then changed the channel and found myself watching Separate Tables with a fabulous cast of actors. I’d heard of the play before, but I’d never seen the film. It had Rita Hayworth, Wendy Hiller, David Niven, Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in it. A quick check of IMDb tells me that both David Niven and Wendy Hiller won Academy Awards for their roles here. Really an excellent film.
After it was over, I rewound the film I taped last night. It was a treat as well. The two main actors are both multiple Oscar winners and it was a sweet little love story. Last Chance Harvey starred Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson and was definitely worth watching. It was very enjoyable.
I made myself some lunch and then did the dishes up.
I went outside for a bit and shovelled F’s parking place. When I was done there I grabbed my handbag and went off to my school. It took about 25 minutes to walk over there. Once I was there, I shovelled the entrance from the street, and then finally my parking space. The woman who parks next to my spot had inadvertently parked just in my space so it made it hard to clear it completely.
I worked for over 2 hours trying to clear out the snow. I got a lot of it out, but finally gave up. The woman’s car was in the way and I also thought that if it was sunny tomorrow it would help melt some of the ice that I wanted out of my space.
I went into my school and waited for F to finish his work. I got busy inside the school too. I cleaned and swept, put dishes away and also folded all the clean towels and put them away. I had to put my pants in the shower at first as they had a lot of snow caked on them. After the snow melted, I tried to dry them on the heater. I didn’t really succeed though.
When F called me, I asked him to stop by the apartment and bring me some dry pants, which he did. When he arrived at my school he dropped off the pants and then went out and did more shovelling. When I went out to help, the woman had finally moved her car and was apologising for being in my space. Grr.
We came home for a few minutes where I had a quick shower and then we went out for dinner. Grado was the place tonight and it was quite good. I brought along a bunch of newspapers and after our meal we got some free dessert. Yes!
We picked up a few groceries and then came back home. We watched ER and relaxed for a bit. I am tired and quite sore all over. Sigh. I’m wondering if it is better to take my pain meds now or to wait until the morning!
Anyway, that’s it for me. It’s after midnight, in fact it’s almost 1 am so I’m up later than I’ve been able to be for a while. I’m quite tired, but not as bad as I was yesterday. I think! Got to go, good night!

Wednesday - Cold with snow. Brr!
I’m writing this a day late as I still have jet-lag and went to bed early last night!
My first night back wasn’t very good. I couldn’t sleep. I was alternately too hot and too cold. Poor Fumihiko didn’t sleep that well either.
I got up before 7am and decided to stay up. F got up a few minutes later and so I made us some tea and toasted some English Muffins. He went off to work a few minutes later.
I had a busy and quiet day yesterday. I did a bit of work on my computer. I read email, downloaded my pictures from my trip to my computer and caught up on a few blogs. Then, I got to work.
Although I am not a very tidy person at all, the kitchen was in a horrid mess when I came back. I spent quite a bit of time cleaning the stove. Admittedly it hadn’t been done in a long time but it took ages to get clean. At least now we’re starting the year with a clean stove. I also cleaned quite a bit of the kitchen as well. I cleaned the ice out of the freezer and put fresh water in the ice maker.
When F came home we had a cuddle and then went to the drug store and then to the grocery store to get eggs. We also got a pack of negi-toro to go with our dinner.
When we came home, we got dinner underway. We had a nabe with one of those soy milk sauce packs. I really liked it a lot. We had pork plus a pack of pre-cut vegetables and some tofu. It was very nice.
We had a quiet evening and after a bit I got so tired at my computer that I was almost asleep. I decided to just go to bed and get some sleep.
As I went off to bed, I asked F not to be too loud coming to bed and I got into bed, pulled the covers up and fell fast asleep! I didn’t hear him coming to bed at all! Usually he’s quite noisy.
That was my day! Night.
