Thursday
Sunny but cool, beautiful day.
I got up at 9 this morning to find my husband taking up the entire couch. I had asked him before I went to bed not to take up the couch in the morning, but to let me sit on it, so I wasn't too pleased. I sat on the couch, turned on State of Play and that's when he decided to make his breakfast. My husband is not a quiet person at the best of times and when I'm watching a British Drama it is definitely not the best of times. I wasn't too happy when he proceeded to cook and then eat, and then clean up afterwards. I put the headphones on because I couldn't hear the TV. He got miffed so he went into the bedroom. I switched over to watch the news, took off the headphones and he came back out. And made more noise. It was all I could do to not bite his head off. I wasn't too sorry to see him go, I didn't want him to be hurt, but he didn't seem to care if he bothered me.
He left and I vegged for quite a while. I vegged for ages actually and it was well into the afternoon before I showered. Tsk, tsk.
After my shower I decided to install the two other disks in my software. I did, but something happened and I lost my keychain. Sigh. I couldn't find my email password. I looked and looked for it. After all, I've had the same piece of paper with it on for 12 years, and how many times have I moved?? Finally, I did find it and got my email up and running again. Yay me.
I left for work around 5. It's already dark then. Very depressing. I made a brief couple of stops on the way. One at another drugstore, one at the craftstore for more tea tree oil.
On the way to my school, I became convinced that the student who usually books for 5:50 was going to come today, even though she had told me she couldn't. I don't know why I thought that! I hurried to the school, and even got changed so that I could teach her if she came. She didn't come at all, but it was nice to be ready early. My students tonight did come on time and we had a pretty good lesson. They haven't been able to come too regularly lately and it's a shame.
After work I finished up and then left the school. I biked first to the grocery store, but a quick tour of the store showed me there was nothing I wanted for dinner. I decided to leave and go to Marumatsu. When I went out to my bike and unlocked it, a funny thing happened. I got really dizzy for a couple of seconds. I honestly thought I might pass out. I don't know why, and it didn't last for long.
I walked then biked when I felt better to Marumatsu and had dinner. It wasn't that great, but it wasn't that awful either. I think the staff there panics a little when they see me by myself, but really I can do menus well. (I'm highly motivated as I like to eat!) I had tempura with udon and french fries. Basically, carb heaven. Sigh. While I was at the restaurant I started to re-read Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married (one of my Sendai 300 yen purchases) and then F called to say he was coming home. Good! Not too late then...if you call 9:45 with a 2 hour drive home not too late. Still, he thought it might be after midnight, so I'll take 9:45 anyday.
I came home, watched a little TV, then ER. I taped it for hubby if he wants to watch it. Hubby was home before midnight. It was nice to see him. He ate a bento he had been given and had some beer. I made some of my lovely White Peach Oolong Tea from Canada for us. So nice.
That's about it for my day. It didn't start that well, but did end better. Tomorrow I have an afternoon class so I have to hustle my bustle a bit more than I did today!
Got to go. Night!

August 21, 2009 - Friday
Rainy in the morning, clearing at night. Humid day.
Today was okay. I did manage to get to bed a little bit earlier than the night before. I also did a bit of reading before I went to bed. That was really nice.
This morning I got up, showered and then did laundry. I also experimented with making drinks. I'd read a recipe for a low carb smoothie. It had cottage cheese in it. I don't know if it wasn't smooth enough or if the Japanese cottage cheese wasn't right, but it wasn't that good. The smoothie wasn't smooth enough for me, and the flavour was lacking. My next attempt a couple of hours later was much better. I made my version of Agua Fresca. I got the idea from Mark Bittman's column at the NY Times. I would link to it, but you have to register (supposedly free to do so). I didn't have to register this morning, so I'm not doing it! Anyway, I blended some frozen strawberries, some water and some ice in my blender, until it was nicely mixed and the ice wasn't in cubes anymore. Then I added some club soda, poured it in my glass and enjoyed. Yum. I think you can do it with many kinds of fruit. The original article mentioned melon...the comments are still available, go check 'em out!
I went off to the school a bit late and decided that I didn't need to get myself anything from the drugstore today, so I just went to the school. I cooled the school down when I arrived and then prepped for my first lesson tomorrow. My lesson for today was already done.
My student came, we had an okay but not great class, and then he left. After that, I got busy. We were doing an interview tonight. The lady came, and it looks like I'll have a new student from next month. I'm quite happy about it.
F and I took a bit of time to relax. I cleaned up after the interview and also had a discussion about some of my students.
We had a simple and inexpensive dinner at New York, New York and then came home. I made us more of the strawberry drink. It was good, but I didn't use enough ice tonight. It is noisy to run the blender though and as it was 11:30 I really didn't want to antagonize the neighbours!
F has been watching some World Athletic thing. I could care more about it, but he's enjoying it. I might try reading a bit tonight or I might just go to bed. I should go to bed really.
Oh, I finished Stephenie Meyer's New Moon today. (May be SPOILERS ahead if you haven't read it.) My reaction is still, "What is all the fuss about?" I liked parts of the novel, I like the character of Jacob and when Bella was palling around with him, liked her too. BUT then, you know who shows up again and it's back to boring. I think I'm just too old. I don't (and never have) believe that there is only one person for everyone. I don't believe in soul mates so the idea that Bella, a 17 year old, can only truly be happy with a 100+ year old vampire is just irritating. Yep, I'm definitely a crochety old lady!
Anyway, that's it for me. Night!

March 3, 2009 - Tuesday
Clear and cool, not cold.
I had quite a busy day today. I woke up early, or rather should I say, Fumihiko woke me up early. Oh well. I went back to sleep for a while.
I got up later and tried to fill up the kerosene heater. Last night before bed I discovered it was nearly empty. I took the tank out to fill it up and discovered that there wasn't very much kerosene at all. Someone was supposed to get us more on the weekend, but didn't. Grr. I took myself back to bed for a while, with a sweater on! There was probably enough for today, so I fired off a text message to a certain husband, requesting more, then dozed for a bit.
I got up when my alarm rang and watched the news and drank some coffee. I showered fairly early, and then did a couple of loads of laundry. It felt good to get it started.
I had an early lunch today and then biked off to the school. My first class today was at 3 pm, so I was there at the school around 2. I vacuumed, dusted and generally tried to make sure the school looked good.
Classes went quite well today. My first student hadn't been for 2 months, so it was nice to see her again. My other classes were fine as well. After I was finished the last one, I cleaned up and called Fumihiko. He came over and called a student's mother for me. We did some schedule shifting and hopefully it will go well in the future. Fingers crossed.
We had dinner in Cocos tonight, and both of us had carbonara. We had different side dishes though. I had a colourful bean salad, and Fumihiko had spinach and bacon saute. It was nice.
We came home and spent a quiet evening in the apartment. Fumihiko watched something on TV, but I had no idea what he was watching. It wasn't overly annoying, but I did ask him at one point if he was even watching anymore because he was fixated on his phone. He's been doing some kind of chat thing on his phone lately and he's getting annoying. He sometimes does it while we're eating at restaurants and that drives me up the wall. I don't even like to watch TV when we eat together at home, unless there's something special on. Don't get me wrong, I watch TV when I'm alone and eating or read a book or even occasionally all three, but I think if we're together it's a bit rude.
So, anyway that was my day. Oh, I also finished reading Odd Hours, the latest in the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz. I like the character of Odd, but I have to say that the series should have stopped at one or two books. I have the feeling that Dean will run the character into the ground and make him boring. There were a few times in this novel where I skipped over the turgid prose.
That's it for me. Night night!

March 2, 2009 - Monday
Slight snow flurries both here and in Niigata. Cold.
Today was a good day. I went to bed quite late last night. I wanted to finish the book I was reading, and I did. It was called Zen and the Art of Vampires. I quite enjoyed it. The heroine was pushing 40 and wasn't thin, which I thought made a nice change from the sylphlike young heroines I sometimes read about!
This morning I got up around 9. It was tough but okay. I packed my clothes and I made sure that I could grab my backpack out of my suitcase easily. I checked out just before 11 and asked the hotel to store my suitcase for me. Yay. I went shopping. I explored Billboard place and found a couple of strange things. The Mujistore that was there has moved, and the Sony Plaza store is gone. Ack. I loved that place.
I had a delightful lunch upstairs at the teashop. I had the lunch set, which was a couple of tiny pancakes, a salad, then a souffle-style omelette with vegetables in it and some bacon on top. I also had dessert and a pot of tea. Very nice.
After lunch, I decided to explore LoveLa, the other major shopping area near the station. I went there and hacked around. The Virgin Megastore is gone again. Sigh. I bought a few things, including a couple of magazines, but really didn't spend all that much.
Around 4:30 I had a cheap and not so healthy lunch at KFC, then went back to the hotel to get my bag. I took my backpack out, and then sealed everything back up again. I walked to the station and got on the train early.
The ride home was pleasant, except for the child that sat behind me. She kept banging the window and making other annoying noises. Still, my iPod was on and I was enjoying the music!
Fumihiko met me at the station and then took me to Benkei for dinner. It's an izakaya. I'm not sure why he chose it! The food is good, but since they moved and upgraded it, I just haven't felt the same about it. After dinner, we stopped at my school to set the heater and then bought a few groceries. I begged off cooking dinner tomorrow. I have an early class tomorrow so won't really have a lot of time I think.
We came home and I unpacked. I have a mound of laundry that really needs to be done soon, hopefully I can do a bit tomorrow. We also had some coffee and watched ER.
That's it. I'm home again. I really hope that I don't go anywhere for a couple of weeks now. I needed to get away, but now I need to stay in one place for a while!
Night.
