Sunny and a bit muggy.
Today was a surprisingly good day. I didn't go to bed terribly late for a change, so that made a big difference. Fumihiko got up before me of course, but didn't wake me up completely. Hurray! Around 10:30 I woke up and invited him for a cuddle. It was nice. I struggled to properly wake up, and we had a chat. I think I even managed to get up around noon. I think I was earlier, but am not sure now.
We had dinner at a hotel today, not the Daiichi one though, the Washington Hotel. When Fumihiko suggested it I thought he was joking, but he wasn't. Still, it was a good choice. We were on the 8th floor, so we had a lovely view of Tsuruoka and the surrounding area, plus it was quiet in the restaurant. They had "muzak" versions of some of my favourite pop songs so from time to time I regaled Fumihiko with "Saturday Night, Dancing in the Dark and Rock this Town. I think he liked it.
After lunch, we went to Yamaya and got some decaf coffee, sunflower seeds and jasmine tea. That was all! After that, we came home and picked up the old TV. We took it back to the store for recycling. Yay us. Hubby had told me this morning that some of his co-workers had suggested taking it out to the mountains and dumping it. Huh? He said to me, "If they find it and trace it back to me I could get into trouble." Then I said, "It's MY TV. I'd be the one that would get into trouble."
We went for coffee after our recycling good deed. We went to S-Mall to Doutors. I had tea again. Yum. After that we did something that I've been putting off for a while. I got Fumihiko to go with me and get my rings re-sized again. Sigh. I had them quite small when I lost weight, but now that I'm gaining again, I can't wear them properly. I hope I'll be able to wear them for a while at least. It was fun trying to help the guy with the engraving inside of the rings. Both of mine have something on the inside. Nope, not going to say what!
We came home for a while and watched Million Dollar Baby. Fumihiko had watched part of it yesterday, and wanted to finish today. That was fine with me. It's a great movie.
A bit before 8pm tonight, we went for dinner. We went to M's Dining. It was their last night tonight and so we were quite sad. It was busy, but we got a good table. Sadly, our meal wasn't terrific, but I guess it's understandable. The manager came over to say thanks to us for coming so often. We tended to go at least once a week so we really will miss the place. When I was low-carbing, it was one of my favourite places to go as I could always have lots of choices.
We came home afterwards, and Fumihiko watched some of the extra features on Million Dollar Baby. He went to bed a little while ago. The humid weather that we've had lately is sooooo not good for his back.
And that's it. My day. It really was quite good. I feel like I actually got to enjoy the weekend with my husband for a change. The last couple we've had fights, so it was lovely to be getting on well with each other.
I've got to go. Night night.

August 30, 2008 - Saturday
Cloudy most of the day, with rain in the afternoon and evening.
The day didn't get off to a good start to be honest. I was woken up before 7 am by my husband getting ready to go to the doctor's office. Sigh. Then, when he came back 20 something minutes later, he woke me again. He had to go to the doctor's office and put in his card, so he'd get to see the doctor earlier than if he waited for the office to really open.
When I woke up for good, Fumihiko was out, so I made the bed and then took my shower. I did a bit of internet stuff, and then Fumihiko came back.
We went out for brunch to Gusto, then Fumihiko dropped me off at my school. I got ready for, and then taught my first class. It went quite well. The student brought me back a souvenir from her trip. That was thoughtful.
After my class I decided to go out and buy the purse, the one that I talked about a couple of days ago. I biked off to the drugstore. I had another good look at it, poked and prodded it, tried it on to see if it would work as a backpack for me, and then put it in my basket. I got a few other things from the store and then paid. I went back to my school. It was a good thing that I left the store when I did as it was just starting to rain. I made it safely back to the school.
I relaxed for a while, and transfered the things from one purse to the other. It didn't long. I read some of the book that I'm working on, Scapegallows. It's rather good.
When my next student came we also had a good class. I was happy to learn that she's going to continue studying with me as well. Yay.
When I cleaned everything in the school up, and did my Tuesday set up, I called Fumihiko. He came to get me and instead of going home, we went straight to Mikawa Mall. We checked the movie times and decided to see Hancock at 9:30. In the meantime we had an okay dinner at one of the malls more generic restaurants, then did a little shopping. I got something for my sister and my niece, and some sunflower seeds for me. Yay me.
The movie theater was crowded today. As it was the 30th of the month, it was cheap night, so lots of people were there. We were lucky. Fumihiko had some free movie coupons, so we go to see the movie for free. Yay us.
I have to say that Hancock surprised me. I really enjoyed it a lot. It was more thoughtful than I thought it would be. I knew that there was a twist in the story, but it was a good one, and was one I didn't expect. I'll try to post a review soon...but I still owe one for Mummy 3!
We came home via the grocery store. I had a huge craving for ice cream! We both got some, and then came home. I put on What About Brian? so I introduced it to Fumihiko. I think he liked it a bit.
That was mostly my day. Fumihiko went to bed a little bit ago, but he's not really sleeping yet. I did have a bit of a "Oh my gosh, he reads my blog!" moment today though. I showed him my new purse and he said, "Oh yes, you were writing about that before." He even said he would have bought it for me, but he didn't know where I'd seen it!
Anyway, my day turned out to be great, despite the early morning. Tomorrow, I hope will also be good. Wish me luck with that, please. Night!

August 29, 2008 - Friday
Sunny in the day time, very rainy at night.
Today was an okay day. I had a quiet day at home, just me and a bit of TV. I did think about doing laundry but I looked at the tiny mound in my basket and I decided not to bother.
I went off to the school and got there on time. It was hot though. It was over 30 in my school today. I worked on getting it cooled down and when my student came we had a good lesson. He's an interesting character!
My second student cancelled. She was busy again. I feel bad for her, she's such a busy lady.
I called Fumihiko after a bit but didn't get an answer, 20 minutes later I sent him a text. About 40 minutes after my first call he called me back. He didn't see my messages. He wasn't at work. Honestly, I was not impressed. He should have called me back sooner. He came to get me and we went to the grocery store for a few supplies.
For dinner tonight we had yakiniku and corn on the cob. That was a really nice treat. I had to look up how to cook boiled corn on the internet. I honestly think that I haven't had any for years.
I did most of the dishes, but Fumihiko did the grill afterwards. It was too hot when I was washing up.
We didn't really have a good evening, so I watched Criminal Minds on tape from the afternoon, then I started watching Little Children. It was very good. Very adult and thoughtful. It was a very well acted drama about people doing things that they shouldn't. I thought it was a film with ideas and a couple of terrific performances from Jackie Earle Haley and Kate Winslet.
And now, I'll most likely go off to bed as it's a little late and I'm tired.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day. We are thinking about going to a movie, but it really depends on whether or not my husband is feeling like it.

August 28, 2008 - Thursday
Sunny then cloudy with rain in the evening.
An okay day. I got up, and then took a very long nap on the couch. I was really surprised when I woke up. I slept through my alarm. Sigh.
I had a very quiet day at home. In the later part of the afternoon, I made my omelette for lunch. I used the last of the stirfry from last night as the stuffing. It was yummy!
I headed off for the school around 5 pm. I had my raincoat on, but not my raincape. I was lucky, I got to my school just as the rain really started.
I had two classes tonight and I think they went quite well.
Afterwards I got a message from my husband saying he was busy, then about 10 minutes after that, a call asking if I was ready to come home. Not yet. I finished up and then Fumihiko came to get me.
We had dinner tonight at Grado. It was quite nice, for me. I had seaweed pasta, but poor Fumihiko had a tomato based pasta with octopus. He's not a big fan of tomato pasta.
After our meal, we went off to the grocery store for a few things and then came home. Fumihiko watched the show I watched earlier today, The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard, and is now watching Sweeney Todd again.
Anyway, that's it for me for today. I had a nice day, but really didn't get anything done at home. Tomorrow I should really do laundry or go out for a quick post office run.
Catch you tomorrow night? Gotta go. Night.

August 27, 2008 - Wednesday
Hot, humid and sunny.
A good day today. Yay!
I slept in a bit because there wasn't any news on and I had gone to bed really late. When I got up I had a quiet day around the apartment. I drank my coffee, ate some yogurt, and just basically relaxed.
In the afternoon, I got ready for work. I cooked my omelette, then washed the dishes. I headed off to work. Because I left after 5 pm, the sun was right in my eyes. Yikes. I don't like that.
I made a brief run to the drug store for my sweetener. I also saw a really cool handbag while I was there. It's a handbag that converts to a backpack. That's what I have now, and I love it. However, mine has only one small pocket inside and things don't stay put in it. My lip balm and comb often get lost in the bottom of my purse, which is a real pain. The purse in the store was smaller inside and had more pockets. It's not expensive and I have to say I love the convenience of having my hands free when I shop. I'll maybe go and have a look at it again. My current purse is looking quite shabby and is a few years old, so it's not like I buy new purses every year.
My school was hot today when I got there. It was 32 degrees. Sigh. That afternoon sun really warms the place up. I worked on cooling it down, while I got ready for my class. My student did well tonight and I think she had fun. She's still a little shy, but is doing well.
After class I changed and got ready to go home. I called my hubby but didn't get an answer. However, he called me back about 10 minutes later. He picked me up and we went home. Tonight, I cooked!
Dinner tonight was only a stirfry, but it was rather nice. I used prepackaged veggies, but added a lot of shimeji mushrooms, a small zucchini and half an onion. Yum. Fumihiko thought it was nice too, and even did the dishes for me. Yay.
In the evening Fumihiko and watched some TV and I downloaded some information for my student from the internet. It was a quiet evening, but quite friendly and nice.
Tomorrow I work late, so I won't be cooking dinner. I told Fumihiko that he's in charge of that. He can either cook it or buy it! It's his choice. I'm so mean.
So, basically that was my day. It was good. Tomorrow I might go to the post office or I might do laundry. I haven't decided yet. Wish me luck. Night!

August 26, 2008 - Tuesday
Cloudy and sunny too. Very warm day.
Today turned out much differently than I expected, but it was fine. I got up at 8 am to check email and news. I found the BBC News, which I watched, then checked about the US news on line. Why did I only think to do it today? It would come on after 9. I felt really tired though, so decided to tape it and take a longer snooze. While I was lying in bed I got a text from my husband that he was taking the afternoon off. He's worked a bit of overtime lately and was taking time off instead of overtime pay.
I had an okay morning. I showered, did some laundry, made the bed, and of course watched my precious news! Yay. I feel a little connected now. By chance, I ran across the start of a movie that I wanted to watch anyway, so that was rather nice. It was called PS and starred Laura Linney (who btw has the exact same birthday as me if her IMDb profile is to be believed) and Topher Grace. It was well done, although I didn't quite get the point afterwards.
Fumihiko came home at the end of the movie and relaxed for a while. He was working on my travel health insurance stuff. It's very complicated. The brochures that we got on the weekend said that they would only cover trips bought from that travel company. Not what I want. He's trying an on-line place, but having problems as our family names aren't the same. Sigh.
We went out for lunch around 3 pm. It was only Gusto, but it was okay. After, Fumihiko drove me to my school. That was a treat. I got him to look at a wasp nest that is in the bike shed at my school's parking lot. He said that it wasn't a wasp nest, it was a bee nest and the inhabitants wouldn't go after anyone. I was relieved to be honest.
At school, I got ready for my classes. They were fine today. In my second class, I gave the students each 10 1 yen coins and each time I heard them saying something in Japanese, I took one away. One student didn't give up any, but the other one had to give me 4 coins. Really they did quite well. One of them did ask the other the translation of a Japanese word, but that was within the rules, so I had no beef with that. I've found that it's an interesting way to call attention to student's usage of Japanese in class. It also can be good as a way to make students really listen to each other, as they can take coins away from each other! Usually though, at the end of the class, the students give the coins back. Tonight...they kept them!
Fumihiko came to get me after I finished up tonight and we had dinner at M's Dining. I had the beef fajitas again. They're quite good, if you get over how messy they are.
We came home and had a quiet evening. We watched Monk which was good for a change. Monk was blinded in an attack and became less obsessive. I find that his obsessions don't always make a lot of sense, so I was glad for him.
I made a pot of strawberry tea and we had some of that. Fumihiko spent ages on his computer trying to get the insurance thing to work, but didn't have any luck. Even their email address didn't work. Honestly then, I'm not sure how much confidence I'd have in their product!
So, that was it. Quite nice day really. Tomorrow I do have to work for a change. I have an evening class and then I'm going to come home and cook dinner. It's about time. I've been meaning to do it, we just haven't gone to the supermarket at the right time.
Anyway, that's it for me. Night night!

August 25, 2008 - Monday
Sunny and warm, a bit humid.
Today was a quiet day, and mostly good. I got up this morning without any alarms....at my usual time! I was a bit surprised. There wasn't any news on, but there wasn't any Olympics either, which made me glad.
I had a quiet day at home. I watched the TV I taped on the weekend and enjoyed it, then relaxed. I had thought about going out, but never did.
When Fumihiko came home he said hello and almost immediately went to bed for a nap. He had texted me to say that he wasn't feeling well. So, sleeping was probably a good thing for him.
When he woke up we decided to go out for dinner. I suggested going to Sakata to the Indian buffet place. He thought it was a good idea. We drove out there and it was gone! Closed, no signs, nothing. So we don't even know if it moved. We decided to go to the other Indian restaurant in Sakata, but just as we drove up, they turned off the lights. Sigh. Instead, Fumihiko took me to another place, Udoku.
We had dinner there in the teppanyaki room. It was very nice, but quite a bit more expensive than the place I wanted to go originally! The chef cooked everything in front of us, and it was very cool. We had steak with garlic fried rice, miso soup, salad, coffee and dessert. Everything was delicious.
After dinner, we came home and watched Medium. Tonight was a good one, Joe was held hostage at his office and both Allison and the oldest daughter knew something was wrong.
Then, Tsukiyaki Western Django came on. We've been watching it, but not really if you know what I mean. Parts are so over the top that I can't stand it, but other parts are really cool too. And, it's really neat to see places that I recognize. It was filmed up here in Shonai, near Tsuruoka. One of my friends met many of the actors from the film. There was one scene where Fumihiko looked at the screen and just said, "Mount Zao!" It was a volcanic lake at the top of a mountain. I've even been there!
So, that's it for me, I'm done for tonight. Catch you tomorrow? Night!

There was one scene where Fumihiko looked at the screen and just said, "Mount Zao!" It was a volcanic lake at the top of a mountain. I've even been there!
So, that's it for me, I'm done for tonight. Catch you tomorrow? Night!
August 24, 2008 - Sunday
Rainy or cloudy most of the day.
They're over! Thank goodness! The Olympic Games have finally finished. I'm so relieved. What could have been a really interesting two weeks of interesting sports and stories from the Olympics on TV has been two weeks of complete boredom for me. Yawn. The only thing more boring than watching Olympic Softball is watching Olympic Softball in JAPANESE. Rant mostly over. I found that I enjoyed reading about the Canadian athletes thanks to the CBC newspage, but rarely ever saw them on TV.
I honestly wasn't too impressed by the closing ceremonies either. For me, the bar was set terribly high by the Sydney Olympics and neither Italy nor China came close. Oh well.
Had a pretty awful day today really. Fumihiko and I argued most of the day. He's on a new kick. I have to pick the restaurants that we go to, "because I always say no to the ones he chooses." Well, actually, no I don't, it's just that he often picks restaurants that have bad food/service/or are closed that day. Well, yesterday he suggested 2 great restaurants and I was happy to go to them, so I don't know what he's on about.
We had lunch in Jiro today, but he very nearly didn't order anything. He was being really mean to me and I was very upset about the whole thing. I suggested that after our lunch we take our old TV back to the electronic shop for recycling. On the way to the shop, I wanted to pick up some of my old ink cartridges from my photocopier as I can put them in for recycling at the shop. He said it was okay, then, brought me home and took off. He wasn't seen again for 3 hours or so.
We had more words when he came back, then he had the nerve to ask me where I wanted to eat tonight. I didn't want to go anywhere with him and said so. After a bit I realized I was getting over the top and apologized. Since the closing ceremonies were on tonight and it sounded like Fumihiko wanted to watch them, I suggested going to the grocery store and just getting something there. We didn't have enough time for a restaurant. So, that's what we did.
When we came back, he did some cooking. I thought the whole point of going to the store was to get pre-cooked food, but not according to him. He made some nice spinach and bacon and some miso soup, but I didn't really want either of them. Anyway, we watched the closing ceremonies. It was nice to look at, but not much fun. I didn't feel involved at all. And, what the heck was up with the soldiers taking down the Olympic flag? Didn't seem really Olympian.
Anyway, he's off to bed now. Good!
While he was out this afternoon, I went out too. I went to Kaneta, a little clothing shop near our apartment. I got a cute little shirt for my nephew. It's got dragons and Koi on it, looks cool. I hope he'll like it, and that it will fit him. According to Japanese sizes, it's for a 10 year old, but my nephew's only three!
I deleted a rant I had made about the TV in our car. If I feel like it tomorrow I might just put that back in. Check back and see!
Got to go. Night.

August 23, 2008 - Saturday
Sunny with rain showers.
Today was a mixed bag of a day. We did a lot today. I got up and showered this morning, then watched Medium. It was quite good. Robert Beltran from Star Trek Voyager was on it. It was quite good. When it finished we went to the dentist's office.
We got there in lots of time, but I'm not sure why the dentist took extra time! We had to wait for about 30 minutes to see him. I'm really not even sure why he saw me today.
After we were done, Fumihiko whisked me off for some lunch to Bistrot des Points, our favourite place. We had a lovely lunch there. We both had steak, but it came with pumpkin soup, salad and salami for me, then gorgeous desserts.
When we finished we went over to the Mall. I ran into an old student of mine there, then we went to the Travel Agency to pick up some travel insurance brochures for me.
We drove back to Tsuruoka, and after a quick stop at our apartment, Fumihiko dropped me off at my school. It was early, but he needed to visit his mother and do a few things. I had loads of time, so I read some of The Boleyn Inheritance and then finally finished my little jigsaw puzzle. It took me a long time to do, but it's finally done. My class went well and we had a good time.
When Fumihiko came and picked me up, he took me off for dinner. Tonight we went to Studio 14, the newish Italian restaurant. We had a lovely meal there. We had gnocchi, then carbonara and a spicy tomato/clam dish. We had coffee after our meal too, which was lovely.
We came home afterwards and Fumihiko put on the dvd of Sweeney Todd. He made some coffee too and we started to watch the movie. After a bit, he fell asleep. He said he didn't, but he really did. After it finished, I watched Heroes and then ended up watching Barry Lyndon.
I have no idea what we're going to do tomorrow, but hopefully we'll enjoy ourselves!

August 22, 2008 - Friday
Warm and sunny, cooler at night.
A pretty good day today. I had a quiet morning at home. I did some laundry, put some away, that's about it.
It was cooler again today. Hubby and I are wondering if Summer is over. I sort of hope so, but it is quite a bit colder, basically overnight.
I set off for my school a little before 4. I got there and it was quite warm inside. It was 30 degrees. Hot! I cooled the place down and got ready for my class. Luckily I got ready a little early as my student showed up 10 minutes early. Sigh. He rode himself on his bicycle so I couldn't really do anything about it. We had a fairly good class, and I think he did quite well.
My second student of the day showed up on time, but had to leave early as she had a business meeting. We had a good class too.
When I was done, I sent Fumihiko a message, but he couldn't receive it. So, after a bit, I decided to just go home. I biked home. I had a good ride home, but there were a lot of sirens going off along the way. I only saw one fire truck, but I'm sure there were more. I have no idea why or where they were going.
I was home for 20 minutes when I got a call from my husband. He had just finished work. He came home and we went out for dinner. It wasn't great, it was just Gusto, but it was fine.
We came home and rather than watch the boring Olympic stuff that my husband was watching, I decided to listen to some podcasts. Hurray. Much better for me. I finally got a bit of news.
And that is my day, basically. Tomorrow I have a dental appointment to check on my tooth, then a class in the evening. I'm not sure what else I'll do tomorrow. Wish me luck!

August 21, 2008 - Thursday
Rainy all day.
Today was a good day. It was cool, bordering on cold today. We barely saw the sun all day! I got up in the morning, checked the telly and went back to bed to just enjoy the coolness. I know that sounds weird, but I really enjoyed it.
I had a quiet morning, and around 1:45 left the apartment to go to my hairdresser. I got there in good time and she was able to take me right away. I got my hair cut quite short again. I didn't get my hair shampooed, and I didn't let her put any treatments on my hair. We had a nice chat while she was doing my hair. She asked me if I watched the Olympics. I said I did, so she asked me if I supported Japan or Canada. A little sheepishly I admitted that I support Canada, but, if there's no Canadian then I support Japan. It is basically true!
After getting my hair cut, I went to S-mall. I poked around the 100 yen shop for a while, got some stuff for my trip and for my school too. I was going to have a coffee in Doutors, but they looked busy so I changed my mind and decided to just go home.
At home I relaxed for a while then around 5 pm headed out again. I went to the grocery store on my way and then headed to my school. Just about 3 blocks away from it, my hood blew off just as it started to rain torrentially. Sigh. I got wet. For some reason, one of my feet even got wet. Basically I was wet from mid-thigh down. And, my hair was soaked. Sigh.
I spent some time getting dry and dealing with my wet clothes, then took a break and ate the food I'd bought. After a bit, I got ready for my students.
Both classes went quite well tonight. Surprisingly, the younger of my first two students did really well. Usually I have to keep prodding her, but she was great today. In my second class we had a conversation about Chinese medicine. It was very interesting for both of us. My student left a little late, a bit after 9.
Fumihiko called me at 9:20 tonight. He'd just finished work. I felt really sorry for him, but I wasn't ready yet. I told him I'd call him later and then went back to work. About 25 minutes later I called him. I was done, but needed him to bring me some shoes. My clothes were basically dry, I had spare socks at the school, but no spare shoes. He showed up at my school a few minutes later. He came in the apartment, but didn't have any shoes with him. He asked me to wait a little and he'd go back to our apartment and get them. He went back, took out my bike, got my shoes, and then came back to my school. He came up to the door, knocked and when I gave him a strange look, went back out to the car for my sandals! Poor guy.
We couldn't go to our first choice for dinner tonight, so we went to Grado, the restaurant that's near our apartment. I had gorgonzola penne, and Fumihiko had what I had last time we were there, the salmon with yuzu kosho. Both our meals were great. I was really glad that I went with the penne.
We hit the grocery store for a few of Fumihiko's necessities then came home. We watched Olympics for what seems like hours. I'm getting a bit tired of it. I'd probably enjoy it more if I understood what was going on. But, Japan shows the Olympics in a Japan only way. If Japan finished 5th, we hear more about that, than whomever finished in first place. During a relay race for example, the US Men's Team dropped the baton. Rather than showing a replay of what exactly happened, the Japanese station chose to focus their cameras on the Japanese runners drinking water and chatting with each other after the race.
When I was changing for bed, my foot slipped and I stubbed my big toe on the bed. No big deal I thought, but I noticed that I've cracked the nail quite far. Yikes. Heaven knows how long that's going to take to grow out. I'm wondering about the wisdom of bandaging it. If I do, I may run the risk of making myself allergic to Bandaids. Recently, my skin has been reacting to many things.
Anyhoo, I should be going. I'll catch you tomorrow. Night!

August 20, 2008 - Wednesday
Rainy and sunny...thunderstorms at night as a bonus.
This morning I actually saw George Stephanopoulos and about 8 minutes of news on the telly. Bonus! The reason? Fumihiko left for work early and I woke up and decided to check out the TV. I guess that's my problem. I'm not getting up early enough. And, I'm not likely to change either. Still it was nice. After it was over, I channel surfed and then went back to sleep.
My alarm had just gone off when I heard someone in the apartment. What the heck? Fumihiko took the day off work because his back was bad again. After a bit of a grumpy (on my part) cuddle, I sent him off to the doctor while I did some computer stuff.
Despite my misgivings, I had a good day. We had lunch at Kintaro Sushi, the revolving sushi place, then got some gas for Fumihiko's car. I wanted to get my hair cut today (the cause of the grumpiness really) but when we went there, she was busy today. I'm going to try tomorrow.
We went to karaoke in the afternoon. We got the last available box in the place we go, and we had free time. We were there for over 3 hours. It was a lot of fun though. I didn't sing anything new, just a lot of oldies that I liked. Sad to say that I am very out of touch as far as music goes nowadays. Fumihiko did a lot of Beatles songs of course, and I did a huge mixture of stuff. It was a blast.
After karaoke, we came home and had dinner here. We had a mish-mash of stuff but it was nice! We had French fries, gyoza, and ham sandwiches with tomatoes. We had gotten some lovely bread 2 days ago and it made beautiful open face sandwiches. I cleared the table, Fumihiko did the dishes and then he settled in to watch Olympics.
We had a quiet but lovely evening together. So, in spite of me thinking that my day was ruined when Fumihiko came home, it really wasn't. In fact, if I'm honest, it was probably much more fun! Now, can I remember it for the next time this happens? Hope so.
So, tomorrow we are forecast to have really bad weather, I hope to get my hair cut, and I have two late classes at my school. Wish me luck. Hopefully it'll all turn out okay. Night night.

August 19, 2008 - Tuesday
Thunderstorms both morning and evening, sunny and warm inbetween.
I woke up this morning thanks to Mother Nature. She decided that a thunderstorm was a good way to wake me up. Still, it was around 7:10 or so, and Fumihiko had to get up a little later anyway, so I wasn't too upset. After he left I nodded off again until my alarm went off.
There wasn't any news on of course, so I watched some of the stuff I had on tape, and showered. Basically I had a quiet day at home. I did start lunch a little early because I wanted to be on time at my school today.
I set off before 4 and got to my school almost at 4. I was quite glad. It was a little hot in there, so I turned on the AC and then did some vacuuming. After that I changed into work clothes and got ready for my students.
I had two good classes today. In the second one, the students haven't seen each other for about a month. They went on separate trips to the US. I think they had a great time talking about their trips and comparing notes.
When the students left, I did my paperwork and then did the dishes. I sent Fumihiko a text message, then a few minutes later I called him and left a message. He called me back a few minutes later. He'd just finished work. Poor guy.
Although we were supposed to have dinner at home tonight, both of us were tired, so we decided to have dinner out. Our meal will keep, so it's not a big deal. We went to Cocos as we had free dessert coupons. I had macaroni and cheese with chicken and bacon in it, and Fumihiko had curry. Fumihiko gave me some of his sauce to mix with my pasta and it was darn good! It really made the dish. Cocos! Potential new dish here! Curried Macaroni...yum.
We came home, watched the end of Monk and then Fumihiko watched Japanese stuff on the TV. He's finally gone off to bed. I'm not planning to stay up much later tonight, I think I'll go to bed soon.
Anyway, that was my day. It was quite nice really. Tomorrow? I'm not sure about it yet. Hopefully it'll all go well! Night night.

August 18, 2008 - Monday
Warm and sunny, gorgeous day.
Today turned out to be a great day. My alarm went off early this morning and I got up and showered. I decided to make us some eggs after I was dressed. I scrambled a few eggs and fed them to Fumihiko and myself.
Then we headed out to Doutors. Last night I was reading through some blogs that I visit from time to time and discovered that one person was visiting Tsuruoka. I put a comment on her blog, she put one on mine, and this morning I called her and we set up a meeting time. For about an hour at Doutors M, Fumihiko and I chatted, drank coffee or tea and had a good old time. It was really fun. I so rarely get to meet another foreign wife of a Japanese man, that it was a really nice treat.
Sadly, a little after 11 we had to leave as I had a dental appointment. We got to the dentist's office and I went off to brush my teeth. Getting my wisdom tooth out didn't take long and it didn't hurt too much. I think the dentist was worried in case I'd find it really painful so he was preparing me for the worst and was scaring me more than necessary! It really wasn't that bad. I got some antibiotics to stop infections from starting and some painkillers, but so far I haven't had to take any of the pain pills.
Fumihiko and I came home then and had a relaxing afternoon. He was a dear and went out for food after a while. When he asked me what I wanted I just said "pudding" thinking he'd get me the "purin" that is so common here. He came back with sushi, chawanmushi (egg custard) and a very fancy grapefruit pudding. It was all lovely. We shared the sushi, and he ate all the chewy ones like octopus.
In the afternoon he snoozed on the couch and I read some of a book. I'm on my second Kathy Reichs novel. It's darn good. It's about a plane crash on a mountain. Considering I'm going on a plane next month it's maybe not the best time to read it, but it's a good novel.
We went out for dinner to Moku-Moku in the evening. I wanted soft food, so I thought that cold pasta would be the right thing for me. We both had cold pasta. I had it Japanese style, which meant it had a lot of cucumbers, eggplant and okra. The cucumbers were a bit crunchy so not quite the best choice, but it was tasty.
We bought groceries at MaxValu then came home. Fumihiko really wanted to watch a movie, so we did. We watched Airplane! which is surely not a good choice to watch before a trip. It's not a good choice, and don't call me Shirley.
We're just chilling out now before going to bed. It's been rather a long day, but it was a good one.
My gum hurts a little but it's not really that bad. All in all, it wasn't a terrible experience at the dentists. He even gave me the tooth in a little plastic case! Do you think I'm too old for the tooth fairy? Probably!
That's it for me. Have a good night.

This is M and I in Doutors this morning.
August 17, 2008 - Sunday
Hot and sunny.
Today didn't start well, but got much better. I didn't sleep that well last night. It was really hot in our bedroom, too hot for me.
In the very quiet morning/afternoon, I watched a little TV and saw the broadcast of last weeks fireworks on the TV. They showed an interview with someone and you know, I swear that I saw myself in the background!
In the evening Fumihiko asked if I wanted to go out for food, but then we had another argument. This went on for a bit, and then it finally blew over. He made some soba for us, and then we went to M's Dining for dinner.
Dinner was nice, I had chicken and Fumihiko had Jumbalaya. Afterwards, we came straight home.
Tonight we watched Deathtrap on video. It was fun seeing it again. Christopher Reeve was so good looking. Fumihiko had never seen it before, and I realized that I hadn't seen too much of it. I thought I'd seen all of it.
Now we're watching Sex and The City. I think even Fumihiko is getting sucked into it!
Tomorrow is Dentist day and I'm not afraid to admit that I'm scared. I don't like dentists at the best of times. So, you'll probably hear from me tomorrow night, but if not, don't worry about me! Take care eh! Night night.

August 16, 2008 - Saturday
Rainy and hot.
Basically a bad day today. I got up to a very grumpy husband. He left the apartment, came back, and I wish he didn't honestly. I was going to ride myself to work today but was pursuaded to let him drive me. On the way we had an argument about which restaurant we should go to. He requested one restaurant that doesn't open until 11:30 and considering the fact that I like to be at work at 12, wasn't a good choice. His other choice was in the center of the city, far away from my school. I didn't even know if I'd like the food available there, so said no. He decided to drop me at my school without breakfast. When I protested, he dropped me off at Gusto and then left me.
I had an okay brunch then walked to my school. Sigh. It was going to be a long day. I was supposed to have 3 classes today, but an hour before my 2nd of the day, I got a call from my student. Her visitors hadn't been able to leave last night because of the weather. They were going to leave during her class time. Sigh. My last student had booked for a little later today, but we had quite a good class.
After class I did a clean up, spent some time reading my Empire magazine and then finally decided I'd walk home. I got about 3/4 of the way home when it started to rain.
When I got to our apartment I came in and got the silent treatment. The apartment reeked of burned pizza. Fumihiko had put some cold pizza from the store in the toaster oven without a tray this morning. Then, even more stupidly had gone and lain down on the bed. The cheese burned and the apartment still smells bad. Very bad.
Someone made themself something to eat and then went to bed. I stayed at my computer for a while, then made myself some pasta. I ate that with some decaf tea on the side. It was a nice dinner.
I'm really tired now. I've had a bad day with lots of stress. This weekend is not looking to be fun at all. On Monday, not only is my husband off work, but he's off work to "help" me have a wisdom tooth out. Sigh.
There are some days when it doesn't pay to get out of bed. Except if I didn't he'd be hanging around the apartment making all kinds of horrible noise.
Night.

August 15, 2008 - Friday
Rainy and warm.
I had a good day today. During the day I did my laundry and then got ready for work.
When I biked off to work it wasn't raining, but like yesterday it started to rain when I got near my school. Luckily though, it didn't pour like it did yesterday.
I got ready for work, and taught my first lesson. The student did really well today. He's doing much better than he used to do. He's really trying to read at the moment.
My second student of the night cancelled. It's Obon and she was busy. She did make another appointment for tomorrow though, so I'll hopefully get to see her then.
I called and texted my husband but didn't get any answer. Finally, after an hour (that I enjoyed reading a book) I decided to go home. I biked off and about half way home I got a call from my husband. He had had to work late tonight. Last night this area got some torrential rain and there were some mudslides and flooding, so he had to go over to the areas with some of the head honchos from his work.
We both arrived home at the same time. After a few minutes we went out for dinner. We went to the little Italian restaurant near our apartment. Just as we got there it started to rain really hard again. We had a nice dinner. I had salmon and Fumihiko had beef and pork. We splurged on dessert too.
We came home and watched Olympics for a while. They were showing the Shot Putt. A Canadian was doing really well, but sadly ended up in 4th position, so no medals. However....4th in the world is darn good in my books. Especially since he was 10th in another international contest recently.
After midnight, I made Fumihiko change to Sex And the City. I think he liked the show a bit. He doesn't always understand it though, and now he's sleeping on the couch. Still, I give him points for trying.
And that's it for today for me. Tomorrow I have 3 classes and then I'm not sure what. I'll chat at you then. Night!

August 14, 2008 - Thursday
Hot and rainy. Lots of rain with thunder and lightning.
I got up this morning and then took a nap! It was nice.
I had a quiet day at home. I did do some housework during the day, and I started working on a project for my women's group. I'm not going to talk about it in case it doesn't work out though.
I went off to work a bit after five. It had been raining most of the day, but I was lucky and found a window in the storm. I was near my apartment when it started to rain, and luckily, just needed to turn the corner when it started to pour. I went into my school and hung up my wet and damp clothes.
When my student came we had a great discussion about her trip to the US. She'd gone to the US with an orchestra group. She'd been prepared and hoping to stay with a US family, but ended up staying with a Japanese family. I'm so disappointed for her. She really wanted to be able to use her English, but she didn't have much opportunity. On the other hand she is now thinking about going overseas next year just to study.
After class, I cleaned up and then Fumihiko picked me up. We came home and I made dinner. Tonight's lovely dinner was ginger pork, salad, tofu and French fries. It was rather nice. Fumihiko did the dishes which was great of him.
We had a nice quiet evening together.
I'm doing the SATC thing again. Sometimes the characters are so stupid that I just want to shake them. Other times they are just so over the top that I can't help laugh. I think when the WOWOW special is over I'll actually miss the show.
Anyway, that's it for me for tonight. I'll talk to you tomorrow night. Bye!

August 13, 2008 - Wednesday
Hot and sunny. Humid too.
I got up this morning before my alarm went off. I tried to find news, but as usual these days, failed miserably. I surprised myself by NOT falling asleep again.. I watched the other episodes of SATC that I couldn't stay up for last night, then watched a bit of this and that on the TV.
In the afternoon I decided to go out, and see about getting my hair cut. I decided that I'd just get my hair cut and not shampooed. However, when I got to the salon, it was closed. I'd forgotten about Obon. Instead I went to the mall and had some tea and a sandwich.
I came home and a few minutes later Fumihiko came home. We chatted for a while and then went out for dinner. Our first choice was busy, so we went to Jiro and had a great meal.
We came home via the grocery store and then had movie night. I chose the movie tonight. It was Where Eagles Dare, a movie based on an Alistair Maclean novel. I liked it. Fumihiko liked it too, although he sort of fell asleep at the end.
I'm now watching more SATC. If I think of it a bit like Dynasty with extra sex I can enjoy it, but honestly, my friends and I have never had those kind of conversations, and I'm quite sure we never will. Then again, we don't live in New York nor drink cosmopolitans all day!
Anyway, tomorrow I'm back to work. I have an evening class. Hopefully it'll go well. That's it for me. Gotta go. Night night.

August 12, 2008 - Tuesday
Hot and humid. Very sunny.
Today was a good day. I got up early, but there was no news so I fell asleep on the couch.
I got ready to go out. I wrote my sister a letter and then went to mail it. I also went to a bank and paid my school's water bill. I went to a different bank than the one that I usually go to. I came home via a convenience store.
After another hour I started to cook my lunch. After lunch and the clean up, I took off to my school. I got there in good time, but it was so hot inside. It had reached 34.6 degrees today. Yikes.
After class I cleaned up and then called Fumihiko. He picked me up and we went off to dinner at the soba restaurant. I had hot soba for a change with sushi. It was really nice. We came home via the grocery store.
At home we chillled out and watched an episode of Monk, then at midnight we watched some of Sex and the City. I actually have to say that it's much better than I thought it would be. I still don't like it as much as Friends for example, but it's quite funny. I think I like the characters. My husband laughed a bit at it, but it's not really a "guy" show.
Anyway, that was my day. It was quite good and I rather enjoyed myself. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll go out and have a good time by myself. That's my goal for the day anyway!
Have a good night. Bon nuit!
