Saturday - Cloudy and rainy

I slept in a bit this morning, but got up for good before 11. F had made his mother breakfast/brunch so that was nice of him.  He does this funny thing though, he says that “I made my mother eat.” I’m trying to get him to say that he “made his mother breakfast.” One is nice, one sounds rather menacing!

We decided to go to the Grand El Sun for lunch today. It was a good idea really. I had their cream pasta with Sicilian Lemon.  It was lovely! F had fish, he’s not sure what it was. I did see one of my students at the restaurant and we chatted for a second. That was fun!

After lunch, we went over to Shimamura and did a little shopping. I was looking for something for my best friend. I got a couple of nice things for her, and F got himself a couple of work shirts.

Following our shopping, we went over to the Busankan across the street and had drink each from the Doutors stand that has recently opened. I liked my drink, F didn’t like his as much. We spent a bit of time in the food court, but didn’t buy anything else.

We went to the new second hand shop in Tsuruoka but didn’t buy anything. Some of the stuff was so expensive that we both said we’d rather get new ones so we’d have the guarantee. When we left I reminded F that we needed to get K something for dinner. He suggested going to the far off grocery store, so we did that. He got her some sushi and I picked up a few things for my pantry.

We came back to the house for a while, gave K her food and F and I had a little break upstairs. After an hour or so, we went off to Kappa Sushi. We had a fairly decent dinner.  F didn’t like it too much, but I thought it was okay.

We came back to the house and had a relaxing evening. I watched a bit of TV and then turned it off to watch some YouTube.

That’s about it for today. Not sure what we’re going to do tomorrow, but looking forward to finding out. Come back later and find out what goes on in my little bit of the world. Until tomorrow….

Tuesday - Hot and sunny, dry

I got up this morning and had a lazy morning on the bed. I watched the news and my morning drama before going downstairs for breakfast.  As I was downstairs I was able to say a quick hello to F’s sister. She brought us some vegetables and fruit which was nice of her.

I had a very quiet day. I spent most of the day on my computer. I completely forgot to do some laundry. Oops.

When F came back to the house I assumed we’d do bentos or go out because I didn’t feel much like cooking. I did sort of plan to cook but wasn’t sure how pasta would go over since K and F both had ramen for dinner last night.

F said it was okay for him to have pasta tonight so I whipped up dinner. We had a salad in the fridge, so we had that, with yuzu-shoyu spaghetti, and a duck breast that I was keeping for a day like this. It came together fairly well so yay me.

After dinner, F washed the dishes and I got to dry them. F does it a completely different way than any sane person would, but what I need to focus on is that they get done!

After he dispatched his duty in his eyes, he left and I did the rest of the cleanup. I cleaned the stove which was dirty when I got there, emptied the sink’s garbage and washed my container for making cold tea in.

I went upstairs and I was soaking. I was so sweaty. I know that F thinks downstairs is cooler, but I was working hard down there!

I wanted to go out and F wanted to stay in. I really needed some groceries for myself so F agreed to go out. He went to the onsen and I came along with him.  After that, we had a drink in Komeda and stayed there a bit too long if you ask me.  When we came out of the coffee shop, F was ready to go back to the house. I reminded him about the grocery store.

We bought a few things. I wasn’t inspired by anything to make dinner tomorrow night, so suggested we do a bento run tomorrow night. It’s supposed to be rainy tomorrow, so going out will be nice.  I tend not to go out in the rain at all!

We came back to the house and I took a shower and watched a little bit of TV. F was trying to sleep I think. He isn’t feeling that great, but a co-worker is off sick so he can’t take time off now.

And, we might have plans for the weekend.  A friend’s husband is going to come fishing in the area again and we’ll go and meet them if all goes well. If the weather is bad, we might not go.

Oh, yes, while I was at the onsen with F tonight, I saw this t-shirt with its lovely Japlish on it. They are so close to being right if only they’d had someone who could speak English proofread it!

So that is it for me. It was an okay day. I hope that tomorrow is going to be okay too.  Until tomorrow….

Friday - Hot, humid and oppressive

I woke up just before F left today and said a sleepy goodbye to him.  I snoozed a bit longer but did get up before 9.  I watched some telly, did a load of laundry and tried to stay cool.

When I checked the inside thermometer around 1 am, it was already 32 degrees. I decided to use the AC and I’m glad! I wasn’t feeling all that great.  I didn’t cool it down as much as F does, just a bit. I turned if off when I left the room too.

I spoke to K a couple of times today. I was worried about her. I saw her sleeping in the living room and couldn’t tell if she was sleeping or passed out from the heat.  I made a lot of noise and offered her a drink, which she accepted. At lunchtime, I made her a grilled cheese toast. I worried that she might not be eating too.

The day was quiet. There was no wind, so even if the windows were open, there was no help from that. I kept the AC on for a bit but then turned it off. I just didn’t want to run it all the time.

F went to his neck doctor tonight and then came back to the house.  I suggested going to Youme Shokudo for dinner and that is where we went. It was good.  I had mapo-dofu and it was very nice. F and his mother both had fish. We brought K back to the house and then F and I went off to the Internet Cafe.

We spent 3 mostly happy hours there. I did a little crochet, had a nap and roused F at the end.

We came back to the house and I am almost asleep over my blog!  I’m so tired from the heat.

I did almost finish my column today. On Monday I’ll read it through and send it off to the editor.  Yay.

I gotta go. I’m sorry but I can’t keep my eyes open. Until tomorrow….

Wednesday - Hot and sunny

A great day!

I got up a little late this morning but managed to stay mostly awake.  F popped in a couple of times in the morning, and also came and ate his lunch at home.  That was fine.

I had decided not to do a workout today, and didn’t do one.  I’m okay with that.  I did want to give my feet a bit of a rest.  I do my workout without shoes, so they take a bit of a beating and there is nothing worse than having sore feet.

I took a shower in the afternoon and watched an episode of Alan Banks.  I was just getting dressed to go out when F came home for a bit.  He was killing time between driving appointments.  When he heard what I was going to do he offered to drive me.  I accepted.  Woot.

He drove me to the mall and I spent the next few hours by myself.  I did a little 100 yen shopping, and also bought a card for a friend.  I had lunch at Subway…a spicy chicken sub on flatbread and then a few minutes later went to Doutor for a royal soy milk tea.  While I was there I wrote a lot for my column.  It was all on paper, so I still have to transcribe it, but it felt so much better than what I have been writing lately.  Yay!  I wrote about 2 and a half movies, so that was a big help.

F picked me up after he finished work and then took me to Mr. Donut.  I was a tad surprised, but it was okay.  He did have a doughnut, I didn’t.  I liked listening to the radio…heard The Buggles “Video Killed the Radio Star” for the first time in ages.  He dropped me off at home afterwards and went off to walk his dog and check on his mother.

At home I registered a postcard and then downloaded a picture I took in the mall.
Someone didn't....
I think I should make this my new motto!

F came back quite quickly so we went out for dinner.  He chose the restaurant tonight, a ramen/curry place.  He wasn’t happy with the ramen, I had curry that was okay, but not great.  Still, I didn’t really care.

We did some grocery shopping and then went to the drugstore.  We came home and I watched a bit of TV.  F went to bed fairly early tonight.  He has the dreaded health check tomorrow.  I hope it goes well or he won’t be so happy for a while.

Tomorrow I have to do a workout and hopefully work on my column.  I’m trying to get it ready for Friday.  Come back later and find out just what I get up to!  Until tomorrow….

Friday - Snowy and warmish

Had a quiet morning today. We both slept in a bit and then got up.  I watched some of the news and then we went out for Brunch.  F was in a rush as always, without having a place in mind.  I just don’t like that at all!

We had a pretty good lunch/brunch in Patio in S-Mall.  I had pasta, F had ramen and for a change he didn’t complain too much.  We did have an ulterior motive for going to the mall though, we wanted to submit my income tax forms!  When we were in line to be seen, there was a little bit of a problem.  A man came storming out of the office, chased by an official. I have no idea what was happening, but there was a bit of coming and going for a few minutes.  I think the man finally left, but I’m not sure.  A couple of stamps later and we were done. Yay.

I did a tiny bit of window shopping while F went to the bank machine, then we left the mall.  On the way out, I snapped this picture of a t-shirt in a shop that left me a little perplexed.  I’m not sure what the designer had in mind with it.  I will say that for a change, it did have perfect English!
How long do you plan to stay in this country?

We came home after another quick trip to a bank machine and had a quiet time at home.

We went out for dinner around 8 tonight.  F wanted to go to a fish restaurant, so that’s where we went. We were both surprised to see a few centimetres of snow outside and on the car.  We had a decent meal at the restaurant and left about and hour later.

We made a quick detour through my school to turn on the heater and then went home.  At home we immediately started watching The Walking Dead. I think it was the end of the first season tonight.  It’s quite a good show.  Even F is getting into it.  At 11 I watched The Good Wife again, and did another couple of rows of crochet.  It was fun.  They went fast today.  I’m quite into that show now.  After it finished, I watched Love Lessons on Fox.  It’s a reality show about some unreal women who are trying to find boyfriends.  Basically, some of them have no idea how to act like normal people.  F and I watch the show and just laugh at some of the women who are so over the top.

Anyway, today was quite good.  I could have done without the snow though, but I don’t have any control about that.  That’s it for me.  Night!

Slightly Convenient

For those days when you're not sure if you'd rather leave your clothes lying on the floor or pick them up and hang them in the closet??
Found on a group of clothes hangers from the 100 yen shop.

No What?

A sign from our local cinema.

I promise not to do it as soon as I figure out what "smorking" is.
