Sunday - Rainy and cooler, humid

I slept in this morning. When I went to bed I didn’t set an alarm for the morning. We had no plans, so why would I?

I woke up around noon and got up. F talked about lunch but didn’t seem too enthusiastic about it. Finally, we decided that we’d go to the Aquarium and eat there. It was drizzly when we left the house, but by the time we got to the Aquarium, it was pouring. We went into the parking lot and the attendant made us go to the right, away from the Aquarium. I said to F that we shouldn’t go. There was no parking for ages. I reminded him that I had just got over a cold, I didn’t want another one and he didn’t have an umbrella with him. We left.

We did have lunch in Yunohama though. We went to a cafe in a building that we’d eaten in before. It was a dessert cafe before, and now it is a cafe that allows dogs to come in. We went in and got a table. There were about 3 dogs visible, and one in the back as well. The dogs were really good and were very quiet. 

I ordered pasta, they had shrimp and vegetable pasta, for 200 yen extra I got a dessert, soup and salad. F had the fried chicken lunch and as usual, he didn’t like it! We both added on drinks. F had coffee and I had iced tea. We were doing fine and relaxing when all of a sudden, F sneezed. He had one of those huge room-shaking sneezes! All the dogs started barking and poor F was so embarrassed! 

When we were finished eating, the restaurant was closing so I nudged F and let him know that we should go soon. We ended up going back to the Aquarium.

This time when we arrived at the Aquarium, we were directed to the left. Woot. Our parking place wasn’t terribly close to the building, but it was much better than it was earlier on. 

We went in and renewed our memberships. They are raising the price tomorrow, so F didn’t want to wait. We went through the aquarium and enjoyed ourselves. I was a bit sad because the octopuses were snoozing, so they weren’t mobile at all. I love watching them move.  When we got to the jellyfish section it was so nice to see them again. It looked like there were a few news ones around and I took a few pictures. 

When we finished at the aquarium, we went back to the car and drove back to Tsuruoka. My shoes and socks were wet, it wasn’t a nice feeling. I suggested to F that we stop at K’s Denki so I could get some more ink for my printer. While we were there, he got some headphones for his phone too.

I did the grocery shopping after that. I’m going to do chicken drumsticks tomorrow and then Gapao Rice on Tuesday. We came back to the house and F did his nasty thing about “waiting for me to get out of the car”. I reminded him that I had to carry two bags plus my stuff into the car and he said he’d help me. He didn’t. He did open the house door, but then he disappeared and let me deal with the groceries. Again. 

I put the groceries away and then went upstairs. I spent a couple of hours at my computer. F did pop up for a few minutes but disappeared soon after. He said he was going to heat up the bento I bought for his mother. But then he didn’t come back!

Around 8 pm I started to get worried about dinner. He hadn’t talked about it and he has an early start tomorrow. Not only that, but we would soon run out of options. 

I texted him and asked him if we could go and as usual, he asked me what I wanted. Eye roll. It’s so annoying. I suggested four types of food and restaurants and then he asked me which one I wanted. Nope, that’s not how it works. I’d be happy with any of those four, HE gets to pick which one we go to out of those. He chose curry which was fine. 

We drove over to Coco Ichibanya. On the way, he remembered that last week we’d gone for Indian and was worried I meant to go there again, but I didn’t. I was okay with last week’s meal, but it wasn’t so good I needed it again. 

At Coco Ichibanya I had their handmade pork cutlet with half rice and half an order of veggies, plus a lassi. F had the seafood curry and a lassi. He was happy, I was happy. 

After we ate, we came back to the house. We had a quiet night in. I had hoped to watch TV or something tonight, but it wasn’t to be. I also didn’t want to be responsible for keeping F from sleeping. 

So, that’s about it for tonight. It was a weird day. I get really angry with F. He doesn’t communicate well with me and I am just supposed to guess what he is thinking or wanting to do when he hasn’t said anything. He’s generally a great guy, but will not make plans or state a preference for anything. 

I asked him if he had any summer plans or ideas, or even if he’d be taking time off for Obon next month…the area he was born in does Obon in July. He didn’t even remember when Obon was there. he just doesn’t make plans. When I used to work it would really hurt my feelings when he’d take time off work and he wouldn’t even suggest it to me so that I could join him and his family. I needed to give at least two weeks notice when I worked for the company so it wasn’t a good thing to spring on me. 

Okay, enough whining.

 Saturday - Hot and Sunny and Muggy

I went to bed a little later than normal last night. I did wake up fairly early the first time, went downstairs and then came back to bed and went back to sleep. 

F came back sometime in the morning. He did come into the room to say hello, but I think he fed his mother too. I overslept and didn’t drag myself out of bed until noon. It was so hot, I think I sweated too much. I grabbed a couple of sports drinks for F and I and I spent a little time on my computer. 

Finally, we talked about going for lunch and at first F said that he didn’t need lunch as he’d eaten with his mother. I thought that was fine and I could be let off at a place I liked and would enjoy myself.  However, when we left, F started talking about taking himself out for ramen. Oh well. No problem. 

He let me out at Kissa Marina and I checked that it was okay to go in. They said it was fine, yay. I waved to F to let him know it was okay. I ordered my favourite there, the curry pasta and it was as good as usual. When I had finished the food, but not my drink, I texted F to let him know I was nearly done. I didn’t want him to rush or anything, but I was the last customer and even the staff was starting to leave the restaurant for the day! He came by and then I paid and left.

We discussed what we’d like to do and ended up going to Komeda for coffee. We had to wait a few minutes for a table, but we didn’t have to rush off afterwards as K didn’t go to daycare today. 

The coffee was fine and in the end, F bought more coffee tickets today. He loves Komeda, I like it and just find that when we tend to go on Saturday afternoon it is too busy.

We drove over to Yamaya and did a little shopping there. I got more Japanese spice and we both got a few snacks. Then, F got some kerosene and some gas at the gas station. We drove back to the house.

I put away some stuff in the kitchen and then I went upstairs. I took off my outer clothing and had a lie down on the bed for a while under the air conditioner. It was 30 degrees in our bedroom. That’s much too hot for me.

After a while, I got up and spent time on my computer, F came up to the room and then decided to make his mother’s dinner. We talked about where to go for dinner. I gave F a few options and he hated them all, so I made him take me to Cocos. He said he hates it there. I like it a lot though, so decided not to care. How many times has he dragged me to places I dislike for food?

We went to Cocos and I had a decent meal. I had grilled chicken, added on a baked potato and then we shared some bruschetta with minced tuna and avocado paste. That was nice.  F had a new noodle dish, it was supposed to be a Thai dish, but he didn’t like it. F doesn’t really like Thai food, so I’m not sure why he ordered it! We both had drink bar, but today the pop machine wasn’t well stocked. I did have some nice decaf coffee.

After dinner, we came back to the house and F basically ended up going to bed. He’s tired. I watched The Spencer Sisters which was okay, but I’m not sure about it yet. 

That basically was my day. Tomorrow I’ll have to do the grocery shopping and hopefully pick up a few things I want rather than need!

I’m finally feeling mostly better from this horrid cold that I have dealt with in ages.  I still have a little bit of a cough, but at least my nose has mostly stopped running.

Friday - Warm and sunny

I woke up fairly early this morning, before my alarm. I got up and went downstairs. I came back upstairs and went back to bed. Unfortunately, I overslept and got up quite late.  Oops.

I went downstairs, grabbed my late breakfast and came upstairs to eat. I had a quiet afternoon after that. I did a bit of texting in one of my groups, we’re talking about trying to meet up in a couple of months…that would be lovely!

I did think about doing laundry today, but when I opened the washing machine, I discovered that the inside drum was covered with ink. My dear husband must have washed a pen again and it covered the inside of the machine with ink. I did grab a paper towel and tried to damp mop some off, but only a little came off. Sigh. I took some pictures and asked F by text if he would try to clean it tomorrow.  I can’t wash my clothes in the machine right now as I don’t want my clothes covered in blue or black ink. 

I ate lunch around 3 and of course, watched an episode of The Closer. I talked to F on the phone after 5pm and he sounded quite happy and was looking forward to his party!

I went downstairs around 5:50, washed my dishes from the day and got the kitchen ready for our meal to arrive. F had ordered it for us a couple of days before. It arrived within the time that we asked it to and then I got the table set up. I got K out of bed and we had a lovely meal. We both had sushi.  I had salmon and she had tuna. The delivery service comped us some chawan-mushi too, so that was nice. I added in a little dessert at the end too, we had some ice cream, Pino. It was nice and light without being too much. 

I did the dishes afterwards and cleaned up the kitchen. Then, I said goodnight to K and went upstairs.

I relaxed for a while and was on the bed. It was really nice to not have to go anywhere and to just enjoy myself. I watched some short videos on my phone and then before 10pm, I went downstairs to take a shower.

My shower was nice, but right at the end of it, K got up and used the washroom. I managed to sneak upstairs before she came out. 

I decided to watch a movie, but as usual, it took ages for me to pick one. I ended up rewatching a Jason Statham film. I like Jason, even if he’s not a great guy in this film, The Wrath of Man. 

I got a text from F during the film. He’s back in his hotel. I think he had a good night. I’m happy. He doesn’t get to go out too often, so having some “guy time” is nice. 

Well, that’s about it for me. I’m thinking of getting myself to bed fairly soon.  I’m not sure what we’re going to get up to tomorrow. Mikawa doesn’t have any new English movies, I’m not sure if Tsuruoka does or not. I’ll check it out.

Thursday - Hot and sunny

F woke me up this morning while he was getting ready for work. He didn’t mean to of course, but it just happened. I went downstairs, thinking he had already left, but he was in the washroom!  We switched!  He went back upstairs to get dressed. 

I went back to bed and he left a little while later. I slept for a while, but did get up in time to get ready to go out. And….I decided not to go! It was hot out and the bus might not get me there in time, so I decided to skip the film. I think it would be a good one, so I’ll try and catch it on streaming. 

I had a quiet morning. I grabbed my breakfast and ate it upstairs. I watched the news from the bed. I’ve done that a bit lately and I relax that way. I am also further away from the news which I like. The Dirty Dozen came on after the news and I watched it for a bit, but eventually turned it off. Another film I’d like to watch one day.

Around 2:30 I went downstairs and got my lunch. I brought it upstairs and ate. Yes, I did watch an episode of The Closer. Today was about a sexual assault done by the son of a police officer. It was a good if sad episode.

F called me rather late tonight. He said he was on his way back to the house. That was fine. I went downstairs. When I was trying to get into the kitchen to put down my dishes, K was blocking the doorway. She was in the fridge looking for food. I had of course left her a plate from last night for her lunch, but she didn’t eat it. She had a mouthful from the plate and then put it back! It took a few minutes before she noticed me behind her. I did talk to her, but she’s so deaf that she doesn’t hear me at all.

Tonight dinner was fairly easy. Most of it was from the store or easy to prepare. I did some cucumber pickle, then plated some potato salad. F called me while I was cleaning and told me that his shoe had broken, so he was going to buy a new pair somewhere. He has to work tomorrow and is going out tomorrow night, so needed to do it right away. I wished him good luck on the shoes.

I cooked the French Fries in the air fryer and started them just before F came back to the house. We had a nice reunion and then F went upstairs. I told him that dinner would be in about 10 minutes. I cooked the hamburgers in the microwave and didn’t think much of it when F came downstairs with some clothes which he proceeded to put in the washing machine. A few seconds later, the fuse in the kitchen blew. It’s a little funny, but I have asked F not to try to do laundry while I’m air-frying something because the house doesn’t have enough electricity for all the major appliances on at once. Boo!  I turned the breaker back on and then we were fine. I told F that he had to wait to do his laundry. It wasn’t a long time, just a few minutes. 

We ate around 7 pm and dinner was okay. A lot of the food disappeared. I liked the fries, everyone else liked the cucumber and the potato salad! After dinner, I did the dishes which didn’t take too long. I’d only used my air-fryer as far as cooking utensils, so it was fairly easy to clean. 

F and I went to Mina, the grocery store after we finished. I went in and bought a few things for tonight and tomorrow. I checked out and was on my way to the car when I saw a display of tissues. I grabbed a box of the cheapest ones and went back to pay for it. I went out to the car and gave F his money back. 

We stopped to mail a birthday card on the way to the house, and then came back to the house. At the house, I had a bunch of groceries to bring in, the big thing of tissues, my purse and my umbrella which was in the car. F helped me by unlocking the door and getting out of the way. He didn’t even want to grab one of the things I was bringing in. I’m getting a little salty about that. 

I had a pretty quiet evening to be honest. F made himself some ramen and then brought it upstairs to eat. I watched The Rookie: Feds and it was a pretty good episode tonight. 

Tomorrow night, F has an overnight party with his old work buddies so I’m on K-duty. We’ll be having sushi delivered so I’m looking forward to that. F will come back on Saturday morning sometime.

 Wednesday - Sunny and cool

I didn’t have a great night last night. Poor F woke up a while after I went to bed and started coughing. He took some medicine I think, then went back to bed. I think I heard him leave in the morning, then I woke up at 6:30 or so. I went downstairs, then came back up and tried to go to bed again. F’s alarm went off at 7:00 am, but happily, I was still awake and turned it off.

I slept a bit longer but got up a little earlier than I usually do. Yay me.  I went downstairs and grabbed my breakfast, then came back upstairs to eat. As usual, I watched the news and then relaxed.

I went downstairs around 2:30 and got my lunch. Then, I came back upstairs to eat and watch another episode of The Closer. It stops being on my channel at the end of the month. I won’t finish the series, but that’s okay. 

When F called after 5 I asked him if he’d bring some milk with him. His mother finished the carton and of course, didn’t tell me.  Oh well. He did bring some milk with him so that was good. Later on in the evening, we found out that she’d finished all of the boxes of tissues that we bought her at Costco. Sigh. If she’d told me before F left work, he could have picked up some while he was in the store.

I got started on dinner. It went a little late, but it was good. I did a pork stir-fry with a mix from the store, but I added extra vegetables to it. There was some excitement during prep as the doorbell rang and it was a woman collecting for the community organization.  I actually understood most of what she said and got F to take care of her as I was busy with dinner.

We had dinner finally and it was good. We had salad, cucumber pickle and stir-fry with rice. It went over quite well. 

I did the dishes when I finished and listened to some podcasts. When the dishes were done and put away, I did up the garbage in the kitchen.  I left it in the genkan for F to take out.

I went upstairs and did the garbage in my room too. I left the bag for F to put his stuff in.  F came up around 10:15 or so and then I went downstairs to take a shower.  I bumped into K when I was finished. She’s always up and around these days. I’m not sure if she’s just not sleeping well or if something is going on with her. She doesn’t say much, and nothing to me!

I came upstairs and watched an episode of Fallout. Tonight’s episode was a bit better. It was about the girl and the fake knight. I at least don’t hate those two characters. 

Since midnight I’ve been working on my blog and watching ye olde YouTube. Nothing too exciting. I may go out tomorrow afternoon, I feel the need to get out of Dodge for a while. There’s a movie that I’d like to see at Machikine. Hopefully, I can get myself down there in time to see it.  Wish me luck with that!

Tuesday - Drizzly and humid, but cooler

I woke up when F left for the hospital. He turned on the lights in the room and that got me. I did go back to sleep and woke up about half an hour earlier. I went downstairs and then went back to bed for a while longer. 

I got up and got dressed. F was back, which surprised me. He was back for a while he said. We talked about where to go for lunch. Unfortunately, the place we’ve been thinking about going for a few days was closed today. F suggested a different place in The Big Block. I tried to remind him that we had gone before, but he didn’t remember it. We drove over there and discovered that today they only had pancakes for lunch. Neither of us was too excited about that, so we left.

We ended up at F’s new favourite, the Eel restaurant. We didn’t have eel, we had the lunch special. It was huge. It was fried fish, sashimi and niku-jaga…like a potato stew. It came with rice and miso soup and then coffee. Lunch was good, but huge!  Honestly…I told F later that it was “a hungry man dinner”.  If I was doing manual work I probably would have been glad of it. 

After lunch, I asked F if we could go to S-Mall. A kitchen goods shop is closing at the end of the month, and I wanted to see if they had anything we wanted or needed for the house. After that, I would buy F a drink at Doutor.

We drove over and went in. There were a few things that we wanted. I suggested F buy K some socks since they were on sale, I got a pair of scissors with tiny blades and a strainer scoop. F wanted to get a couple of hot mats and later found a cactus plant that he wanted. All told, it came to around 2000 yen, so it's not bad for all that stuff. 

We went to Doutor after a little break. My app wasn’t working for a while so I had to do a phone reset, but finally, I got it. I had a rooibos tea and F had coffee. We enjoyed our little break there. Oh, and also in the mall I noticed that Baskin Robbins is getting a facelift! They are closed until the end of the month. 

F wanted to go home and have a nap so we came back to the house. I went upstairs right away, and he stayed downstairs for a while. I was on my computer and then I watched the news. When it was on, F came up to the room.  Around 6 pm I suggested ordering dinner for K and me for Friday since F is off for a party. He did that, and then we started talking about our dinner.

I suggested either Korean or Indian and we ended up going for Indian. I haven’t been to the Indian restaurant in ages as I haven’t been too pleased with them. I can sort of forgive them for not making my curry spicy hot enough for me, but I have a hard time with cold-temperature curry. Anyway, tonight’s meal was pretty good. I did get a piece of chicken that was a little too pink inside for me, so I didn’t eat it, but everything else was nice. I even had a full stamp card, so we got a discount tonight so that was good.

F wanted to go to the drugstore in the parking lot so we went in. I found a plastic jug that matched my other ones, so I got it and a few other things for the house in their hundred yen shop area. Yay me. 

After the drugstore, we went to the grocery store. I went in and did the shopping. I got food for the next couple of nights and days. Tomorrow it’ll be a stir-fry and then Thursday burgers and fries. We’ll have salad and a lot of veggies with most of them too. 

We came back to the house and I put the groceries away. I went upstairs and then texted F to ask him to make rice for tomorrow’s dinner. He did. Yay. 

I had a quiet evening in. I watched some YouTube and then FBI: Most Wanted.  I’m now back to YouTube and blogging. It was quite a nice day with F. His hospital visit was fine, and the doctor asked him to come back next year too.
