Wednesday - Sunny and warm

I woke up this morning around 8:30 when my alarm went off. F was still in bed at the time. He got up after I did. Only thing is that I went back to bed for a bit, he got up to cook for his mother.

I got up about an hour later, dressed and then had my breakfast. I was eating it upstairs when F came up to say that the guy was here for the internet.  Okay then.  I went downstairs and basically, F was alone with a box in the living room. They may have done the install, but they don’t help with the set up.

F had a bit of trouble with plugging in wires and such, and couldn’t get the box open at first, but finally got it all set up. He got quite angry at me a couple of times as he doesn’t like it when I speak English to him when he’s reading in Japanese. I tried to ignore it but he was not very nice for a while.

When he got it set up, it was time to connect our phones and my computer. They got done fairly easily….whew! I went upstairs and did my Fire Stick and my printer. That was a bit more complicated as my printer has been acting up lately. I think I did it. 

It was around 1:30 at this time so I asked F what he wanted to do. He suggested lunch at a gyudon shop. I wasn’t too happy about that, but agreed to go. F picked Tsukiya, so off we went. He made a quick stop at a bank first and then we went to the restaurant. F had a gyudon with raw egg and soup, I had the chicken curry. It was curry, Japanese style with a grilled chicken leg on it. I was really pleased! It was delicious. The curry was decent and the chicken was so soft that I could cut it with my spoon!

After lunch I suggested a coffee at Doutor so we drove over to the mall and went in. We had coffee and it was nice…mine was an iced decaf latte. F didn’t talk too much as usual. When we finished our drinks we picked up a few things at the grocery store and then came back to the house. 

I went upstairs and F stayed downstairs. I watched the news and then another episode of Matlock.

Finally, dinner was ready a bit after 7 pm. I went downstairs and this time F didn’t need any help getting things together. There was funny thing happen though. I asked F to change the channel on the TV to the Japan News. He couldn’t. He did get the TV on, but couldn’t do anything else with the TV remote. I suggested the batteries were dead so went upstairs to get new ones. They didn’t work. F tried some old batteries to see if they’d work. No. When we were just about to give up, I noticed that there was a box of masks sitting in front of the TV. F moved it and the remote worked again! Yay!

F had made us a nabe for dinner and I have to say it was pretty good! A lot of times I complain about his nabe, but tonight I didn’t complain. I liked it. What I liked best was that he did the dishes too! Yay. 

I still had to do the garbage up so I kind of worked around F and got it done. It’s a pain because K keeps “helping” with her stuff and putting it places it doesn’t belong at all. Sigh. Still, it got done. I put it in the genkan for F to take out later. 

I went upstairs and relaxed for a bit. I even watched the last episode of season two of Matlock. Whew! One more show finished before the deadline. I have a couple more that I’d really like to watch but I’m not sure if I’ll have time. 

I went downstairs around 10:30 and took a shower. That was about the time F came upstairs! I had a nice shower and then I came back to the room. I watched tonight’s episode of The Irrational which was about robberies of antiquities. It was a pretty good one really. There’s one more episode of this show I believe before it is finished. 

Since midnight I’ve been watching some YouTube and getting ready for going to bed. 

Tomorrow I had hoped to go to a movie, but scheduled stew-making for myself so I can’t do both. There’s either Friday or next week, so you never know. 

I’m glad that we have internet and that it went reasonably smoothly but I do wish that F wouldn’t get so upset at things like this.

Thursday - Rainy, Sunny, Thunderstorms and back to rain.

I woke up early again this morning, got up and went downstairs. I came back to the room and then went back to bed for a little while. I got up when my alarm went off, dressed and then grabbed my breakfast. I ate it quickly and then set up my table so I could join the online meeting. I made myself some tea and of course I spilled it all over the table when I bumped it. Yikes. My computer was already there. I moved quickly to wipe up the liquid. 

After that, I was able to join the meeting. It was really nice. I “met” a couple of people that I hadn’t seen before and there was a new person in our group and a person who recently rejoined. It was nice! I didn’t talk a lot, but it was fun anyway.

When the meeting broke up, one of the other members texted me and asked if I’d like to have an online meetup with just her. I thought that might be very nice! It took a minute for me to get connected….I had to find a browser that would work first and then I finally was able to reach my friend. We had a good chat for a while and there might be a chance that we could meet up in Sendai next week. It’s not certain at all, but you never know.

I had a quiet afternoon after that. I watched too much YouTube and went down to get my lunch later. I made my lunch and brought it upstairs to eat. I ended up watching an episode of NCIS: LA. I think I saw it before, but no worries. I enjoyed it for the most part. I followed that with the news and then F called me. I was packing a few things into my suitcase when F called. 

I went downstairs and got ready to start dinner. Tonight I air-fried a pork roast, roasted some veggies and made an onion boil. I was busy. The meat took a bit longer than the recipe I was following said, but finally it got to a safe temperature. 

I set the table and we finally ate. It was a bit late, but everything was really good. There was a bit leftover, some of which I packed for my lunch tomorrow! I decided not to pack a lunch for K as she hasn’t eaten the last two I made for her and she can eat one of them!

After dinner, I did the dishes and listened to my movie podcast. Because I was late, I was able to listen to it early! I did the dishes. It went fairly well but I was quite tired after I finished. I came upstairs when I was done. I did try to tell F and K that I was going upstairs, but when I opened the door and spoke, nobody acknowledged me. 

I relaxed for a while and had a drink of cocoa with some decaf coffee in it. That was quite nice. I went downstairs to take my shower after 10:20 or so. It was a nice shower and then I came back upstairs afterwards.

I watched tonight’s episode of The Rookie. It was quite a good one. It finished up some of the earlier storylines in a generally good way. 

And that’s it for my day. It was a bit stressful with the cooking as I haven’t done that kind of roast before in my air fryer, but it did turn out well, it just took a little longer than I hoped. 

Tomorrow I’ll have to do some laundry and I’ll be cooking dinner again too. I will need to finish packing my suitcase as well, or at least get it nearly finished!

Thursday - Sunny and warm

I woke up this morning around 7 am. F was in the room getting ready for work. I tried to roll over and go back to sleep, but I wasn’t able to do that. I had to get up and go downstairs. Darn. F and I did spend a couple of nice minutes together before he went to work.

I watched a few videos on my phone and then I went back to sleep. I woke up about an hour later and got up and dressed. I went downstairs and brought up my breakfast. I had a nice meal while watching some of my favourite content creators on YouTube. 

I had a quiet afternoon. I did manage to do a load of laundry which is a good thing. I might not get to do any laundry for a few days as it is Golden Week and F will be off work for a bit. 

I went downstairs and made my lunch and brought up my wet clean laundry to hang up. I decided to watch an episode of Magpie Murders. It was quite good.

F called around 5:30 and I went downstairs and started to get ready for dinner. I washed my dishes and then got started. Tonight I made a carrot side dish from a recipe that I found in a magazine from the grocery store. They often have good recipes in them. I don’t always use them but I usually check them out. 

We had burgers and fries with salad and some leftovers from last night, and my carrot dish. I think dinner was good, but no one said anything. Sigh.

I did the dishes after dinner and then we went out to the grocery store. F and I drove out to Mina and I went in. I only bought a few things as F and I are planning to go out for yakitori tomorrow night. 

On the way back from the store we drove by the restaurant we plan to go to tomorrow. I suggested that F check on the door to see if they are in fact open tomorrow. It took him a moment before he realized that was a good idea! He drove back to the place and went in!  He said it looked nice and he told the people inside that we’d come tomorrow night. 

We had a quiet evening. I put the few groceries away and F came upstairs and changed for bed. He even opened the window since it was warm in our room. 

I watched the first episode of Yellowstone’s fifth season. I liked it and it was interesting to see the characters again. 

And honestly, that’s about it for my day. F fell asleep. He wasn’t able to get his computer up and running tonight, which is really sad. I hope that he didn’t mess it up too much. I’ll try and look up some info for him about fixing it.

Wednesday - Sunny but cool, some cloud too. 

I woke up this morning around 6:30 and had to make a trip downstairs. F was awake and I’m not completely sure that he didn’t have something to do with my waking up. I came back to bed and he got up to get ready for work. I told him to put his light on in the room as he was looking for something for himself that he couldn’t see in the dark. 

He left and I went back to sleep. I woke up a couple of hours later and managed to drag myself out of bed. I dressed and went downstairs, then prepared my breakfast and brought it back upstairs. I watched a bit of YouTube while I did that.

I had a quiet afternoon and didn’t do too much. Around 2:45 I went downstairs and made my lunch. I brought it back to the room and watched another episode of Matlock while I ate my lunch. I’ve been enjoying it. I like Kathy Bates a lot of course.

F called me around 5:30 and asked if I wanted some ice cream. I thought it might be a good idea to have some for dessert at dinner. We haven’t had a dessert for a few weeks. F was going shopping anyway.

I went downstairs a bit later and got started on dinner. I had to do my day’s dishes first. One sad thing, I can’t find my chopstick yet. I’ve looked everywhere, except where it actually is!  

Tonight I made another pork stir-fry with cabbage and nira. It was good, but I didn’t get things done until quite late. Dinner was good, but no one wanted seconds. I liked it a lot and I’ll have some leftovers tomorrow, probably! We had salad, the stir-fry, potato salad and rice.

I did the dishes and then I did the garbage up in the kitchen. F helped me with K’s garbage in the living room, so that was good. 

I went upstairs and then prepared the garbage upstairs. I gave F my bag and he filled it up with his stuff. He took it downstairs and probably outside too. 

I went downstairs and took a shower a little later and then came back to the room and watched The Irrational again. I enjoyed it today as it was set in Vegas! I don’t think it really was somehow, but I did see a few places I had seen before.

I turned off the TV near midnight and then got to work on my internet stuff. I watched a few YouTube videos and a few minutes ago got an SOS from F. His computer is doing something really strange. He’s been trying to sign in, but it won’t let him. I suggested that he shouldn’t try and do much tonight, leave it for a time when he isn’t tired, but of course, he didn’t listen! I think he finally did call it quits, but he didn’t want to. I’ll do some research tomorrow if I can for him.

 Wednesday - Rainy and cloudy

I woke up a couple of times this morning. Once was just after F left for work. I was worried about him leaving his alarm on again, but I decided to leave his clock and if it woke me up I could yell at him later! Well, it didn’t wake me up so he must have turned it off before he left. Yay.

I went downstairs early today, then came back to bed and after watching a few videos I fell asleep again. I did get up a bit earlier than I have been lately. It still isn’t early by any means, but earlier!

I got my breakfast and then came upstairs to eat and watch the news. Some of it was interesting. There was a big thing in South Korea and they declared martial law, but then the parliament overturned it. It blew my mind! I hope nothing like that happens in Japan.

I had a quiet afternoon. I finished one of my Christmas cards, I printed out some address labels for myself and I printed out the remaining days of the WOWOW schedule in English. 

I didn’t have time today to watch a show during lunch, so I skipped that today. Lunch was good, I had a few leftovers from yesterday plus I tried my new cheese which was quite nice. Not Havarti nice, but okay. 

I went downstairs around 6pm to start dinner. Tonight I made tacos and put tortilla chips on the side!  Surprisingly, the tacos were great. K even had two and that was a surprise. Usually, she only has one. We all enjoyed the tortilla chips. I didn’t have any salsa but we had sour cream and guacamole so I don’t think anyone minded. In fact, the food was so good that it all disappeared. I had to get F to go and get her something for lunch tomorrow. Usually, when I make tacos there is oodles of meat left over, but not today. 

After dinner, I worked on the dishes and then the garbage. F went out to get some food for his mother’s lunch tomorrow and some kerosene for the house. We were down to one tank which worried me a bit. I worked in the kitchen and I was done when F got back. He brought the tanks into the house and I carried them over to the closet where we keep them. 

I went upstairs after that since I was done cleaning the kitchen. I went upstairs and did my garbage up in the room. I left the bag for F to add to if he needed to. I relaxed for a while and went downstairs to take a shower a bit late. I showered and then came back upstairs. I was too late to watch Grey’s Anatomy tonight, so I spent a little bit of time with F. It was nice. We don’t spend enough time together just being lately. We’re both too busy or too into our phones!

I came back to my little corner of the room and turned on some YouTube. It’s been an interesting night. 

So that’s my day. Tomorrow I’m off downtown for lunch and then to get my hair cut. I’m planning to make sandwiches for dinner tomorrow night, possibly with soup too. I’ll have to get some soup while I’m out, or I can use the cup-soup I have in the kitchen.

Monday - Warmish but cloudy

I woke up this morning when my alarm went off. Soon after, I got a text from Apple to say that my computer was on its way. I got dressed and it’s a good thing that I did as a few minutes later I heard the doorbell. I verily ran down the stairs and opened the door. My lovely new computer was here!

I took it upstairs and opened the box. The computer was so cold that it must have sat in a truck all night or something. I decided that I should leave it alone for a while and let it warm up. 

It was hard, but I managed to put it aside for then. I grabbed my breakfast quite late and ate it, then ended up taking a bit of a nap. 

In the afternoon I finished a book I was reading and then I went downstairs and got my lunch. I had rather a big one today. I finished the pasta from Friday. It was good.

Around 4:30 I decided that I had to try to start up my new computer so I did. I also tried to move the information from my old one to my new one. I got it done, but it gave me a start at first when it said that it would take 15 hours. What? Happily for me, it speeded up, but it did take more than an hour all told. When F called I told him what I was doing and that dinner might be a tad late as I didn’t want to leave my computer in the middle of booting up. 

Finally, just a minute or two before 6 pm, it finished and I was able to turn it off for a while. I went downstairs and got on with dinner.

Tonight I did chicken wings in the air fryer and we had them with some pilaf that needed using up from the freezer, local baby greens (so yummy) and a bit of kimchi. Dinner seemed to be popular even though it was a bit late. 

After dinner, I got on with the dishes. They didn’t take too long as I didn’t have any pots, just my air fryer. I listened to my podcasts and all was right with my world. When I finished, I told F that I was going upstairs and then did so. I did a few more things with my computer trying to get it set up as I like it. After that, I went downstairs and took a shower.

When I came out of the shower, I found a text from my sister. She’d sent my birthday present via Amazon and they’d left it outside my door…probably! I checked the door and there was a huge, but very light box just outside the door. I think it must have arrived while we were eating dinner, or possibly a little earlier. Happily, it didn’t rain this evening, so the box was in good condition. I brought it up to our room and left it. It isn’t my birthday yet! 

I watched Project Runway and enjoyed it a lot. Today was the unconventional materials challenge and they went “shopping” in a toy store. Some of the clothes were amazing, some were a bit meh. 

I turned off the TV around midnight and got on with my computer. It’s taken a little longer to do things I usually don’t think about because I often have to sign into websites or find where things are. Still, I’m not complaining and it’s kind of fun too.

I’m not sure what I’ll get up to tomorrow. I’m thinking about taking a quick trip to the mini-mall tomorrow so I can pick up a few things. I’m not sure if I will or not as I plan to be out most of Wednesday. We’ll see how things go.

Sunday - Rainy but warm

Today did not get off to a good start. I went to bed around 4:30. F was awake so I let him know that he had left his clothes in the washing machine since Friday night and he really should hang it up if he wanted his stuff to dry. He got up and went downstairs and brought his clean clothes upstairs. He hung them up while I did my reading. 

This morning, I woke up first when F decided to fill up the kerosene tank. It was very nice of him to do that, but instead of moving my stuff that was in the way, he decided to climb over it. I got up and moved my stuff so that he wouldn’t have to climb over it with a full kerosene tank. I was annoyed and had to go downstairs and use the washroom since I was awake. 

I tried to go back to sleep and sort of managed, but Apple kept texting me to let me know that today they were sending a cord that I ordered. ACK! I tried to sleep more. F came in at least once more and then my alarm went off and I didn’t get very much sleep at all. I was so annoyed!

I dragged myself out of bed a bit after 11. I knew that F wanted to have an early lunch because he had a massage booked for himself. I got dressed and a little later, F came up and we decided to leave. He’d fed his mother already and now it was our turn. 

We drove over to Kintaro Sushi and had a lovely if slightly expensive lunch. They have great sushi but sadly they weren’t that busy today. I also noticed that most of the customers in the store were around our age. Not boding well for them.

We left a little before 1 and F drove me to S-Mall. I went in and did a little shopping. I also had a chat with a lady who works in the English School in the mall. She knows me, but I don’t really know her. 

I was planning to go to the coffee shop to meet F but it was really busy. I didn’t want to have to fight for a table, so I thought I’d waylay F at the door and we’d go somewhere else. However, it didn’t work. I walked to the door to try to meet him, but he phoned me from inside the mall to ask where I was. We finally met up and we decided to move on. 

We ended up at Cafe Studio Cinq in the middle of town. We both had coffee and a cream puff. They were lovely. The coffee wasn’t as much, but I don’t drink regular coffee that often. We stayed for a while and used the free wifi and relaxed.

We decided that we’d make a quick trip back to the house, pick up the kerosene tanks and then go and grab groceries and kerosene for the house. When we were back at the house, F made K her dinner. I found some fish in the freezer, F cooked it and gave it to K.

We went to the grocery store over near our old apartment. F came in with me and as usual, drove me crazy. He always gets mad at me for getting in people’s way, but they get in MY way all the time. He doesn’t get mad about that. I haven’t figured out if it’s because I’m big, or foreign or a woman that he gets mad. In either case, it’s annoying and he should stop. 

After the grocery store, I went to Gyomu Supa. I wanted to pick up a few things. I went in and got some snacks, but also some processed cheese squares and kimchi. There were a lot of things that I wanted, I bought some of them! 

After Gyomu, F drove to the gas station and he filled up the kerosene tanks and then the car. 

We came back to the house and I unpacked the groceries. I took some of the stuff upstairs, the stuff that we don’t want K to find! After that, we decided to go and find dinner. I was hoping for something non-Japanese, but F of course, wanted Japanese. We went to a couple of places that he thought about and they were all closed. We finally ended up at the Chinese Restaurant on the other side of Komagihara park.  

We had an okay meal. F ordered his favourite yakisoba again, the one I hate. Bleck. I ordered some fried chicken and stir-fried vegetables, F also ordered some gyoza for us.  We had a nice meal. I did have some of the yakisoba, it ended up on my shirt! 

After we finished eating I asked F if he wanted to go for a drink somewhere or if he’d like to just go back to the house. He picked the house. It was fine. He has to work tomorrow, I don’t. 

Back at the house, I came upstairs and watched a bit of TV. I put on an episode of The Closer and then I put on the first episode of Slow Horses on Apple TV+. I enjoyed both shows. I will likely watch more of them both!

At midnight, I turned off the TV and had a little chat with F. He’s in bed now and it sounds like he’s sleeping. 

I’m not sure what I’m going to get up to tomorrow. I should do some laundry but it will be Monday and I usually talk myself out of it!
