Thursday - Sunny and hot, torrential rain in the evening

A good day. I stayed up late last night, got up at a decent time today and although I planned to get more sleep, never did. I had a quiet day around the house, quiet but sweaty. It was so terribly hot today.

F phoned me during the day to say that he found a decent priced trip on his cell phone and was going to book it. He did.

He came home tonight around 5:30 and after a while we went out for dinner. We had a nice dinner at Cafe Framboise. I had chicken with breadcrumbs and F had the Japanese set meal. As always, he said afterwards that he was still hungry. (My question then is WHY does he keep ordering it?)

We had oodles of time before the movie started, so we hung out at a book store for a while. F wanted to get a travel magazine and I’m reminded that I should probably order a book for myself.

We headed off to the theatre then and went in. We were still quite early, so we sat for a while, then ordered our drinks and popcorn. We went to see Super 8 tonight and both of us really liked it. The first half of the move especially was excellent and the kids were written well and acted extremely believably. We both enjoyed the film immensely.

After the movie, we left the theatre. It was pouring. We ran/fast walked to the car and drove to the grocery store. When we got there it seemed to rain even harder, so F let me out at the door. We got a few groceries for dinner tomorrow night. F suggested making curry, so we’re going to do it. I think I’ll probably have mine on spaghetti, because I don’t really want any rice. I have some whole wheat pasta in the cupboard.

We came home and had a bit of a quiet evening in. F went to bed fairly early and I’m up a bit late as usual.

Tomorrow is Canada Day, but I don’t really have anything planned. I hope that any of my fellow Canadians reading have a great day. Night.

Wednesday - Sunny and hot

An okay day really. I got up at a decent time today, made the bed, got dressed…Yay for me. No biggie. I decided to work on my column by watching a movie that I hadn’t seen in a while so I had to find it first. I missed it the first time, so 25 minutes later I finally found it. The movie was fun, Midnight Run.

I didn’t do a lot of housework today, but I did tackle my computer desk a bit. The mounds of paper were getting higher and higher so I took some of the junk out, sorted out paper for recycling and for shredding and threw some out.

F just showed up tonight which was okay, but he wanted to go out right away. We both changed our clothes and headed out. We were trying to find an open travel agent, but sadly they all seem to close at 6:00pm which is when we headed out. Maybe we can try again tomorrow. We also drove over to my school to check out the drop box. I got a message on Tuesday saying there’d been a delivery, but I couldn’t see the combination number on Tuesday night to open it. It was a pain in the butt today, even with daylight. F had to open it for me, which he did. Yay. It was the tuner for digital TV. I don’t use the TV, have had it hidden away in the cupboard for the last 6 years, so I think this new box will join it!

We came home and I cooked dinner. It wasn’t a difficult one tonight, just a stir-fry, but it was good. We had a pork and zucchini enhanced stir-fry with tofu on the side. It was good.

F did dishes then put on his crap TV, again with no asking if I wanted to watch anything. Tonight however, I mentioned that there was a movie I wanted to watch on at 9, so that was okay.

We ended up watching JFK. I had never seen it before. I was never much interested in the whole story, and I think I had gone off Kevin Costner at that point. In fact, tonight, I thought it was the miniseries about the Kennedy family, which is why I wanted to see it. However, it was a good movie. It was very talky in some places, and a bit dry in others, but the performances were great and there were so many good actors and actresses in the film. I enjoyed it. F said he enjoyed it too.

While F went and took his bath, I rounded up the garbage for F to take out in the morning. I also set up some cold brewed tea for myself for tomorrow. I’m loving that these days.

Today is so hot. Yesterday was cool and rainy, but today dawned hot and sunny. At midnight it was 28 degrees in our bedroom with the window open all the way. It’s only June. Ack. What is July going to be like? This Alberta Rose can’t stand the heat.

Anyway, that’s it for me for today. Have a good one! Later eh!

Tuesday - Rainy

I’d love to say it was a great day. Believe me, I would. I’d love to say it.

F was off work today. He had a lot of things to do today, but only did a couple, so it was a waste in my opinion! He applied for his passport and also got his hair cut.

This morning I got up, showered and dressed and basically relaxed for a while. When F came home he of course wanted to go for lunch right away, despite my telling him yesterday that I couldn’t go and eat early. I had suggested he go out for ramen by himself too. Thought he’d be pleased.

F spent a lot of time looking for holiday places and packages. He’d tell me all this great stuff, I’d look up the hotels and say yes, or no, whatever, and then he’d hit me with things like, “The flight goes through China, and the total time is 26 hours.” WTF?
Of course I said no way. I don’t mind indirect flights, but I’d rather not spend my holiday in an airport, thanks anyway. I’d start to get attached to a place he suggested and then he’d change his mind. I asked if we could stop as all the places were just running together in my head. He got huffy again.

I took a nap around 1:30. I couldn’t keep my eyes open and just went and had a mini nap on my bed. Hub made himself some stinky ramen and then after I got up, shut himself in the bedroom.

Hmm. I spent time on my computer, made my own lunch around 3, washed dishes and was going to ride my bike to work, but it was wet out and he’d blooming well said he would drive me yesterday. He did, but it was a quiet trip.
I went into my school and got things set up. It wasn’t too hot in there, so I just ran the fan for a while. Class time came, and my student didn’t. She did phone and has scheduled another class this week.

I read 4 newspapers at the school. I didn’t read as thoroughly as I usually do, but it was okay. I got the main ideas!

My other student did come today and we had a nice class. We worked on vocabulary and it was good.

After class I cleaned up, did paper work and then called F. He did come and get me and we went out for dinner to New York, New York. Dinner was fine. We had the same kind of chicken and shared an order of pasta on the side. Yum. He was really quiet and moody though. The rain is playing havoc with his neck and he’s even grumpier than usual.

We bought a few groceries at the store and then came home. The Dark Knight was on tonight and I had hoped to watch it, but when I came back in the room, F has some crap on and didn’t ask if there was anything else that I wanted to see, so he lost all the brownie points he made yesterday.

That was my day. It wasn’t good. I really hate it when F springs his days off on me. It never goes well, and I would think by now he’d know that and not do it anymore.

Tomorrow I don’t really have any plans unless it stops raining. If it does I hope to go out somewhere. I should work on my next movie column too. Got to go. Night!

Monday - Rainy, with a couple of hours clearing in the evening

A good day. Except…I slept in again. Last night I decided not to set my alarms to wake me up. I honestly thought I’d get up around my usual time. I’m an idiot. It was dark and raining out, so I just kept sleeping.

Anyhoo, I did a load of laundry when I got up, hurrah! I stopped at one. I also headed out to the post office on foot today. I took a birthday card and a Book Mooch to the post office today too. It wasn’t raining that hard, so I probably could have ridden my bike, but the walk did me good.

I came home and watched a bit of TV, no big deal. F called early tonight, but he was home around six. He had to run errands for his work first.

Once he was home, we took his watch into the store in S-Mall to get the battery replaced. While it was being seen to, we had tea and a sandwich (me) or frozen yogurt (F) at Doutors. It was rather nice and a little like a date! When we finished our tea, we went back to the jewellery store where they told us that his watch needed to be overhauled and would cost around 10,000yen. F wasn’t sure he should do it as he’s been thinking of getting new watches for our anniversary, but I said he should. We have His and Hers watches and I like the design of them. I don’t want to change. Mind you, his gets much more banged up than mine does!

We surfed the bookstore for travel books (F) or crochet books (me-quelle surprise!) Neither of us bought anything. F dropped me off at home and went to buy gas.

I came in the apartment and started getting dinner ready. Tonight’s meal was fried chicken (no breading), plus salad, celery sticks, chi-chi-mee and sauce and a kabocha croquette each. Everything turned out rather well. Last time we had the store bought chi-chi-mee and F microwaved it, which left it soggy in the middle. Tonight I heated it in the toaster oven, which made it much nicer.

F did the dishes and then put on his Ultra-World Fighting crapola that he usually watches on Monday night…with a difference. Last night, I had made the point to him that he never asks if I’d like to watch something else and it’s rather rude in my opinion to just put on something that only one of us is interested in. After a little bit of throat clearing from me, he did ask if I had anything that I wanted to watch at that time. I didn’t, so told him he could watch it. I don’t know about him, but I felt so much better about him watching it!

We had a quiet evening. I put on Batman Begins at 10 (after asking him if he was okay with it! Sauce for the goose, etc.,etc.) We watched that, and after a while, I went and did a bit of crochet on the couch. I’m doing well on the mini-scarf I’m making. Yay me!

F has spent much of the evening trying to find us a good holiday package. I’ve been suggesting off the wall things, but he’s not too impressed. I’m not a beach person really, so the idea of going somewhere just for the beach is a bit blah. If I didn’t turn into a lobster, I might like the beach more!

Anyhoo, that’s about it for me. It’s been a good day. Tomorrow F is going to be off work, but has to do a lot of running around, so I might not see too much of him…I hope he’ll drive me to work, especially if it is still raining. Night!

Sunday - Rainy and cool.

A really nice day. F and I stayed up unbelievably late last night…it was getting light when I went to bed. I went to bed just before him as well. He was up before me though.

I finally rolled out of bed for keeps around 12 and did computer stuff for a while. After that, we went out for lunch. F picked the place, a soba shop. One that he goes to every week for his lunch hour as it is near his office. (Wouldn’t you think he’d want something a bit different?)

We had lunch and it was okay. I had soba with tempura, F had chukamen, cold noodles. Mine was okay, his wasn’t great. During lunch I had a bit of an epiphany about why I dislike Japanese noodles so much. For F, the noodles are the point. He likes them and can tell the difference between soba, ramen, udon and whatever. For me, the sauce is the point. Noodles are just a way of getting the sauce to my mouth! I don’t like Japanese noodle sauce, ergo I am bored with Japanese noodles. Hmm. That’s my story for today, and I’m sticking to it until I think of a better one!

After lunch we went to karaoke for the first time in ages. We got a few snacks before we went, and then sang for a few hours. I did a lot of new songs, or for the first time songs as they were finally available. I got to do “Cover of the Rolling Stone”, "Pilot of the Airwaves", and a bunch of other songs. It was fun!

When we got to the point that we couldn’t sing anymore, we left karaoke and went for dinner. I got to pick the restaurant this time and I chose a tonkatsu place. We had a nice dinner there and then came home.

We watched most of I, Robot, I did a little crochet and a lot of computer stuff, and then turned off the TV for a while. F finally went to bed and I watched Veronica Mars. Hopefully I’ll go to bed soon. I’m a bit tired and I have a few things to do tomorrow.

Anyway, that was my day. It turned out quite well. Talk to you tomorrow? Night.

June 25, 2011

Saturday - Cloudy and cool, sunny at times.

A good day.

I got up this morning, I didn’t want to, but I did. I showered and then got ready for going to the dentist.

F and I arrived, but we had to wait for a while. She looked at my teeth and thinks I should have some fillings changed as she thinks I have a problem with a hidden infection. Sigh.

After the dentist we went to S-Mall for lunch and to pick up some travel brochures. F gets to take 6 days off between now and September so he’d like to go somewhere. Any ideas? Cheap is good, but Guam is a bit boring as we’ve been there a few times.

I came back to the apartment while F went to take Gombei to the vet. He came back a bit later and said the vet wasn’t open right now. I took a bit of a nap, I was really sleepy. While I was sleeping, F tried to go to the vet again, but it still wasn’t open! Instead, he took his mother shopping.

When he came back, we went out to the mall in Mikawa. I wanted to get a few things and F was along for the ride!

I went over to the craft store and found some funky cool yarn. I want to make something quick for my niece. The yarn has spangles in it. I think that is a nice touch. After the yarn, we went and did a little shopping at Uniqlo.

We left it too late for a movie, so had a drink at Seattle’s Best and then talked about dinner. We decided to drive out to Sakata and have Indian food. That’s what we did!

We went to Sita, and had a nice meal. It wasn’t fabulous-super wonderful or anything, but it was nice. We paid and then came home.

We’ve had a quiet evening at home, watching Top Gear now and will soon switch over to Heroes. I want to get off the computer so that I can do a bit of crochet. Got to go! Night.

June 24, 2011

Friday - Rainy, then clearing late in the day.

This morning, I wasn’t woken by the earthquake alarm, just my husband and the telephone. Sigh. Someone called us and he spent the next 10 minutes running around like a headless chicken trying to find things in his mess!

After F left for work, I got up. And stayed up. I couldn’t believe it either! I watched foreign news and then after a bit a movie I’d taped last night.

During the day I didn’t do too much, just took things easy again. I couldn’t go out as the rain was really bad. In the morning we had warnings for mudslides and heavy rain. The wind was also really strong today. I was half convinced we were having a typhoon, but I don’t think we were.

When F came home, I got dinner underway. I made breadcrumbs, then cut up our eggplants. I dipped the slices in egg and then the breadcrumbs, and then panfried them. They came out quite well, except for the few that I didn’t cook quite enough. We also had salad, celery sticks, and ginger pork. It was all quite good and F approved of the eggplant. He was quite dubious at first.

He did the dishes and then we had a quiet evening at home. Around 10 I went over to the couch and did some crochet while I watched Glee and then Desperate Housewives. F made us some tea, which was lovely.

That’s about it. At midnight I put away my crochet and then came back to my computer. We had another earthquake warning around midnight, but we didn’t feel anything here. I hope that they die down again. I’m getting tired of the warnings. I hope the quakes stop soon. Talk to you tomorrow…night!

June 23, 2011

Thursday - Rainy

An okay day.

My earthquake alarm went off this morning before 7:00 am. We did feel the earthquake, but it was only a level 3 here, in Iwate I believe it was a high 6. Not much fun that early in the morning. I went back to bed soon afterwards, F stayed up and got ready for work.

When I got up it was pouring outside. It started raining last night, and has basically rained ever since. There have been brief stops in the rain, but overall it has been a day of rain.

I checked my computer things and then took a nap again. Sigh. I was tired, despite going to bed an hour earlier than usual.

When I got up there was nothing on TV so I did something I’ve been meaning to do all week. I re-watched The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. It was great. It has been ages since I’ve seen it and I wanted to see if it was as good as I remember. It is, I’m happy to say.

After the movie I watched a Cold Case on TV and then Nurse Jackie. It was all good stuff.

Along the way today I read the last two day’s newspapers and had a very yummy tomato and basil(?) bagel for lunch. Very delicious. I also drank a pot of my cold brewed tea. It was so nice and refreshing.

When F came home, he had a lie down and then I joined him. I reminded him that we had to pick up my glasses today and asked if he’d like to go and see X-Men tonight. He said yes to both. Hurray!

We zoomed off in the rain to the glasses shop and picked up my glasses. I hope they’ll be better now. I think I’m going to have to get used to them. After that, we had a quick dinner at Kintaro Sushi. It wasn’t very busy tonight, probably because of the rain.

Then we headed off to the movie theatre. F bought the tickets, but it worked out quite well. It was Ladies night tonight so my ticket was only 1000 yen, and one of our cards was eligible for a free movie, so we got in for 1000 yen. Hurray. F asked the movie staff for me if they’d be interested in taking some of my old Empire magazines. Book Off would only give me 10 yen per magazine for them and I’d much rather donate them to a movie theatre. I realise they won’t be read much there, but you never know. The pictures are gorgeous and they cover a lot of Japanese movies too. The theatre said yes.

Anyway, we watched X-Men First Class, and it was fun. I had seen it before (shhh! I didn’t tell F) but I enjoyed seeing it again. I liked a lot of the characters, and paid more attention to the actors this time.

After the movie, we drove to the grocery store to pick up some things for dinner tomorrow and then came home. My show had already started, so I didn’t watch it. Instead, F watched some of his crap. Bleck.

That was my day basically. It was quite good, it was nice to go out with F again, but I’m tired of the rain, and the rainy season just started. Hopefully we won’t have any earthquakes overnight. Wish us luck eh! Night.

June 22, 2011

Wednesday - Hot and humid, with some rain.

An okay day. I didn’t get up early today, but no worries. I got up and watched a bit of TV, same old, same old really.

In the afternoon I watched the weekend’s Medium and then the Actor’s Studio with Diana Ross. She was quite interesting, although I wasn’t completely sure why she belonged there.

After 4:30 I went to the local grocery store to get something for dinner. I picked up a few things and then came home. F came home a bit later and I got dinner on the table. We had salad, plus bifen salad, with lemon chicken and harumaki. Everything was quite good, even though it was from the store. F did the dishes afterwards and then put on some Japanese TV.

He promptly fell asleep on the TV, so after a bit, I changed the station and watched the last bit of In the Line of Fire. When he woke up he wanted to go out but as I pointed out, the store was going to close in 12 minutes and I didn’t want to go then.

He was a tad miffed at me, but I’m not the one who fell asleep am I?

I put on Batman Forever after In the Line of Fire. It’s silly, but I like Uma Thurman and Chris O’Donnell too. Oh well.

And that’s been my day so far. It’s so hot and sticky and I didn’t use the air conditioner all day. I can see that I’m going to turn into a big pile of goo by the end of summer. Sigh. What should I do?

Anyway, I’m hoping to get to bed a little earlier tonight, so I’m going to end this here and now. Got to go. Night!

June 21, 2011

Tuesday - Hot and sunny, with rain showers and thunder in the daytime.

An okay day today.

I got up a bit late, but I didn’t much care. I watched a bit of TV, showered, had my breakfast. I watched last week’s Criminal Minds which was odd, but fine.

I left for work around 4. It had mostly stopped raining by then, although there were a few raindrops along the way.

I got to my school, which was hot, but not terrible as it hadn’t been sunny all day. I used my fan and then closer to class time, my AC to get it cooler in there. My first student sadly had to cancel her class as she was still at work, but I used the time to catch up on my newspapers.

My other student came and we had a good class. We talked about our weekends, we each had gone off somewhere.

After her class I finished up and then called F. He picked me up and we went to New York, New York for dinner. Sadly, our first choices were finished for the day, but we ended up having okay meals. I felt a bit sad for F as he couldn’t eat after 10 pm as he is having a health check tomorrow. Poor thing.

We came home and watched Batman Forever?? The one with Jim Carrey and Nicole Kidman. It was okay. Those catsuits that Jim Carrey wore were extremely tight. I don’t think he was wearing underwear!

Anyway, F finally went to bed. He’s tired these days and his back is bothering him. Whenever the rainy season approaches it flares up.

Really that’s about it for my day. I’m not sure what I’ll do tomorrow, but I hope to go out for a while. Wish me luck! Night.

June 20, 2011

Monday - Hot and sunny

A good day. I got up this morning after my alarm rang a couple of times. I didn’t want to get up and I actually planned to go back to bed, but I didn’t. Someone was cutting grass outside and used a loud machine to do it so I had to close the window for a while because of the noise.

I watched one of the Pink Panther movies with Steve Martin in it today. Poor Steve. He must have needed some new art for his house. It wasn’t good.

I had some of the peanut butter that we bought yesterday. I found some that doesn’t have any sugar in it, just peanuts and salt. Yes, I know I’m (mildly) allergic, but I’ve been jonesing for peanut butter for a couple of months. I’ll try not to eat too much of it!

I just had a quiet day at home. I wrote a bit of email, watched a bit of TV, both live and from the weekend, and then did a little bit of housework.

F came home tonight and we went to a soba chain restaurant for dinner. It was his idea, and really I had no objections, so it was fine. When we were done there, he suggested seeing a movie. I wasn’t sure if we could see one tonight so we drove to the theatre to check it out.

There were two films playing after we arrived, X-Men and Antichrist. I hadn’t seen Antichrist, but I had heard of it. I tried to explain to F that he wouldn’t like it, but the more I talked, the more he wanted to see it. We went in. He was lucky because it was Men’s Day or something so he got in for quite cheap. I got us some popcorn and drinks and we went in to watch the movie.

It was definitely NOT a popcorn movie. It was one of the oddest films I’ve seen in ages. There was a lot of graphic sex and violence in the film and it wasn’t suitable for most people. I understood the film for about 7/8th of it, but the last bit seemed to come out of left field and was very odd in my opinion.

F and I were quite surprised afterwards with the way the film went and spent a bit of time talking about it. I’m afraid that neither of us really liked the film at all.

We picked up a couple of Coke Zeros on the way home and then had a quiet evening in. I spent a bit of time looking up the movie trying to figure out what it was all about. I’m still a bit lost.

And that was my day. It was fine, but I didn’t get very much done. Tomorrow, I’m back to work with a couple of classes, so I’ll have to get my act together! Wish me luck. Night!

June 19, 2011

Sunday - Hot and sunny. Gorgeous day.

We woke up this morning in Yamagata city. We went for breakfast at the hotel and then checked out a little later. We headed into Sendai but we were quite early. We stopped at a rest area and had a gelato that was very yummy. It was also nice to get out of the car for a bit.

We drove into Sendai and were lucky enough to find a place near the Apple store where we could park all day for a mere 800 yen. We parked and then went to the nearby Starbucks for a little refreshment. I finally tried their Orange Jasmine Tea Latte. It was lovely. F thought it was too sweet, and I could have done it with a little less sugar, but honestly, it was a close call for me.

We hacked around for a bit and then decided to have lunch. We found a place in the basement of a department store that had drink bar and salad bar, so we went there. F had shrimp for lunch, I had chicken with tomato miso sauce. The food was quite good, but I had a bit of an accident. I was moving my chair closer to the table and I grabbed a join with my hand. The join in the chair opened and then closed as I sat back down on the chair. I pinched one of my fingers in the join. It was so painful. Even now, I have a mark on my finger.

We went around the Forus building after lunch. I found the Body Shop, in a slightly different place, but still has nice stuff. I got a couple of things for myself. After that, F and I went up to the top of the building on the escalator. Goodness, things have changed. There used to be a Tower Records, but it has gone now. The only store that I remember from before is Village Vanguard and it has shrunk in size, but is still there. One floor was completely devoted to Lolita and Goth fashions. I got a good chuckle at some of the clothing there, and at some of the shoppers on the floor. I can’t help wondering if they look at pictures of themselves in 20 years will they cringe with embarrassment? We went to the Starbucks that has appeared on the second floor and had frappucinos, the non coffee kind.

Just before 2:45, F and I headed over to the Apple Store. I took my precious computer in to have a check. The worker wasn’t a friendly guy really, but did know his stuff. He agreed with me that the fan was causing problems so we made arrangements to have the fan replaced. Normally they said the turnaround time would be about 3 days, BUT because we’re from across the country and can’t come back, they did it for us this afternoon. The Genius Bar guy told us to come back in 2 hours. WOW.

F and I left the store, after playing with iPods and iPads. We went for a meander down the covered mall and then decided to go to the Maruzen books near the station. We were just across the street from the bookstore, when Apple called us and said they were done. Less than an hour later! F was all set to go back to the Apple store, but my feet were getting blisters and we were right across from Maruzen books. We went to the bookstore.

We spent a bit of time browsing. F found something, I didn’t. I remembered before we were going to leave that there was a big stationary store in the same building and I needed a refill for a pen. We went up to see if I could get one. I could, so we bought that and headed back to the Apple store.

We picked up my computer, paid and then had another drink. But not at Starbucks! We went to Doutors this time.

We drove over to The Mall in Nagamachi and parked. We found a restaurant for dinner. F picked it, but I approved, so it was fine. We both had the same thing, spare ribs. They were okay. I think I’ve had better, and now I’m thinking that I should really try and cook some spare ribs at home. After dinner, we made a quick stop at Kaldi for some mayonnaise and got a few other things like tea, and then drove out of Sendai.

The road was busy and people were driving very fast. Still, once we turned into the Yamagata highway things got a bit better. We stopped once, at a rest stop and then pushed on all the way to Tsuruoka.

We bought a few groceries on the way home and then came into the apartment and vegged! We were both tired, but in a good way.

I watched Veronica Mars and then F finally got himself off to bed. He’s got a busy day tomorrow.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do tomorrow. Tune in and find out with me! Night.

June 18, 2011

Saturday - Cloudy but warm

An okay day.

I woke up this morning and didn’t want to get up. Still, after 2 alarms I did. I showered and then spent a bit of time on my computer before having a quick breakfast. F and I headed out to the dentist just before 11.

I had a good check up, but she wants me to come back again next week. She noticed something and wants to take a better look . No problem for me.

We had a nice lunch at the Daiichi Hotel and then came home for a while. I had a lie down for a while. I had a headache before going to bed last night, and it was raising its head again after lunch. I then packed my overnight bag and finished up with my computer. I shut it down and packed it up.

F drove me to my school, he dropped me off and I got ready to get my school in shape for the evening’s class. Just then, my cellphone got an email from the student I was going to teach tonight. She was sick and cancelled her class.

I called F and he picked me up again. I went back to our apartment, got F to help me send my student a message and did some last minute getting ready for our trip. We got on the road soon afterward.

We got to Yamagata, but it wasn’t pleasant. There was a car driving erratically behind us, so F was stressing about that, and my headache came back, so I wasn’t too happy either. I took some medicine at a rest stop, so I felt better soon. In Yamagata, we checked in and then went out again.

We walked to the yakitori shop that F always wants to go to. It was open this time, but they had run out of everything, so we weren’t able to go in. Gah. After that, we did our usual walking about aimlessly looking for a place to have dinner. F wanted to go to a yakiniku place, I didn’t, but as he took me on a tour of the slightly seamy side of Yamagata I finally said “uncle” and let him go there. It was a good choice surprisingly, and the food was good. It was also expensive!

We walked back to the hotel via a grocery store and then came up to the room. We’ve just watched a few things on regular TV tonight. I’m watching Top Gear now and hopefully will be able to see Heroes soon.

It was a good day. I really could have done without the headaches though. Tomorrow I hope that things will go smoothly…I’ll let you know! Night.

Friday - Hot and sunny

An okay day. I got up as soon as my alarm went off this morning. It quite surprised me! I didn’t even open my computer for an hour or so as I was reading newspapers. I started with today’s and worked backwards.

I had a quiet home day really. I did a few loads of laundry, so it was good to get that done.

There were a few things on TV this afternoon, so I watched them. I chose to watch GI Joe as I wouldn’t care about missing part of it while I hung things up, then Cold Case and Nurse Jackie. I watched a really super dumb movie called Dance Flick. The only part of it that I laughed at was the end where they did a rip off of Twilight. It wasn’t even that funny.

When F came home I got dinner started. We had a chicken stirfry with store-bought chichimee. It was so so to be honest. We microwaved it and I think it should have been fried.

F did the dishes and then we went out for a bit. First up, we went to his office to return the keys that he’d mistakenly taken home with him, then we went to Mr. Donuts. Orchid64 on Japanese Snack Reviews wrote about new doughnuts at Mr. Donut, so I wanted to try them. We went and had some tea and a doughnut. I liked it. I was hoping to try the chocolate gobo one, but they didn’t have that flavour. We had a choice of orange, cinnamon and milk. The orange one was very nice.

We came home and after a bit I settled in on the couch to watch Glee. It was fun as usual. F went to bed when it was over, so he missed the really interesting Desperate Housewives episode that was on afterward. It was the one that took place after the plane crash.

Anyway, I had a quiet evening by myself after that. I made popcorn and did some computer work. I did a couple of rows of my crochet tonight and finished the first ball of yarn. Yay.

Tomorrow, please don’t stay up waiting for an update, as there won’t be one! We’re off to Yamagata and then Sendai to do a few errands. Wish us luck, and smooth driving please! We’ll be back on Sunday night hopefully. Night.

Thursday - Sunny and warm

A good day. I woke up this morning and went to the washroom. I discovered on the way that F hadn’t taken out the garbage. There was still time, so I got dressed and took it out. It was already quite hot out there.

I came back in and went back to bed. I fell asleep and overslept, so when F phoned to say he’d made my dental appointment for me I was sleeping. Sigh. I got up, did a bit of stuff on my computer and then ended up taking another nap. I was tired!

When I woke up the next time I got up, and had brunch. I thought that I might have been protein deprived since the day before I hadn’t eaten too much. Sure enough, I felt much better after my omelette and sausages.

I watched a bit of TV and then turned off the TV when it got stupid! F was home fairly early tonight and we went out right away. We went to the glasses shop. One of his nosepieces had broken off his glasses. We decided that it was on the other side from the last one (that broke off on the first day.) Then, it was my turn to do some arranging. My new glasses were just too strong. While I could do close work easily, whenever I looked up and tried to look at something across the room I felt a little sick. I need to be able to see across the room as well. I usually crochet in front of the TV so I don’t want to take off my glasses all the time. We ordered new lenses. My glasses are still on warranty so I think it’s free.

We had planned to have dinner at home tonight, but decided to go for sushi instead. We had a nice meal at the sushi place near the glasses shop. We came home via the grocery store and the gas station.

The last couple of hours have been quiet but nice. I’m going to watch Royal Pains soon, and hopefully do a little crocheting. I don’t know when I’ll go to bed though. Wish me luck!

Night.

Wednesday - Hot and sunny, cool at night.

A good day.

I got up fairly early this morning and got dressed right away. I left the apartment without even making the bed and hopped on my bike. I rode over to the movie theatre and went to see X-Men: First Class. I just made it to the theatre on time, grabbed my popcorn, found a seat and watched the film. I enjoyed it. I’m an X-Men fan, but I’m not a rabid one and I’ve never read the comic books, so if they changed things around I didn’t really care. I know I had a good time at the movie.

After the film, I left the theatre and went downtown. I left the theatre parking a different way and discovered that I was really close to the temple where F’s father’s remains are. I’ll have to keep that piece of info in mind.

I went to S-mall and thought about having lunch. I could have gone to the hotel for their lunch, but decided to just have a sandwich and tea in Doutors. I was finishing up my lunch, and reading Mrs. Pollifax on the China Station when an older lady came over to me and asked if I was Helen. I said I was and she introduced herself. She was one of F’s Aunts I think. Not the one he hates obviously, but a nice one. We tried to chat a little buy my Japanese is so bad that I couldn’t say very much. Still, it was nice of her to stop by and say hello. Most of F’s family avoids me like the plague!

I bought a few things in the mall and then headed home. I got home just in time to watch the last half of Clash of the Titans, the old 80’s one. You know, it was schlocky and dumb, but it was a lot more fun that the Sam Worthington version last year!

I had a nice afternoon at home by myself and read more of my book. I watched TV, played on my computer and just enjoyed myself.

F didn’t come home until after 8 pm tonight. He’d had to drive to Yamagata today. We went out for dinner to Coco Ichibanya. It was nice. I had a curry doria and a salad, F had curry and rice. We came home via the grocery store, where we picked up a few things, but not a lot. We decided to go shopping for dinner food tomorrow night.

We came home and had a quiet time together. F was tired from his long day out and me from my early start. I finished my book and loved it. I had read the Readers Digest version of it before, but now I can say that I’ve read the novel.

Tomorrow, I’m not sure what I’m going to do, but I might do laundry, start my journal column or go out! Or a combo of all three. That might be fun. Tune in tomorrow and find out. Night!

Tuesday - Cloudy and cool. Not much rain, but some.

An okay day. I had a quiet morning today. I showered, did a bit of laundry and even ate breakfast.

I watched a little TV from the weekend, especially the two CSI’s that are running at the moment. They were quite good. I saved the second one for my lunch time which was a bit of mistake because, “HELLO—Autopsy.” Bleck. Still, I was fine.

I also, speaking of things on TV watched a bit of Singin’ in the Rain between the shows I was watching and got sucked in. Such great dancing. I’m wondering if my niece would enjoy that film. She dances, but she’s a know-it-all 13 and might think it was boring. I’ll ask her mother if she’s ever seen it!

I went off to work around 5 today and made a stop into the drugstore. I picked up a drink and a few other things, then headed off to the school. There were a few drops of rain as I got near my school, but it was fine really. Made it safely.

I had a good class with my student and then did my clean up. After that, I did my paperwork and then called my husband. He came to get me and then we had an okay dinner in Gusto.

Gusto has changed its menu again and so I had spicy chicken and F had curry. They were both quite good, and not terribly expensive either.

We came home afterwards as F had a headache. He went to bed fairly quickly. We had a snuggle and then I came through to the living room. I watched the last bit of Rent and then a documentary on Broadway musicals. I’ve really been enjoying the live theatre this week on NHK. Good on them!

That’s it for me. I do have “a cunning plan” for tomorrow, but it all depends if I can get up early enough or not. I hope so, but if the weather is bad it may not happen either. Talk to you tomorrow night. Bye!

Monday - Warm and sunny.

A better day. I got up this morning and of course F was off to work. I got up pretty much on time today. The Tony Awards were on early and I wanted to watch them. I haven’t seen any of the plays on Broadway, I just like award shows and dreaming of making it in Broadway! It was a good award show and Neil Patrick Harris was a great host. (Attention ACADEMY….Get NPH as your next host…he’s experienced, and darn funny too!)

Anyway, I had a quiet day at home. I managed to knock over an entire glass of ice water at one point of the day. It was around my computer so I moved very quickly unplugging things and moving other things. Ack. Still, no harm was done thankfully.

In the afternoon I watched Adventureland with Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg. It was an okay movie. It was a little bleak, but not awful.

When F came home, after 6 he didn’t talk to me, went into the bedroom and shut the door. I frankly had had enough of that, so I went in after him and we talked.

For some reason he really wants me to take my computer into Sendai to get it fixed. I really don’t care about it right now, one way or another. Obviously I need my computer, but I would prefer not to rush into Sendai after work one night to stay in a cheap hotel and then rush around the next day trying to get it fixed and then come home.

However. Apparently, we are going to drive to Yamagata City next weekend after my work, spend the night at a hotel and then drive into Sendai in the morning. Hopefully we can take my computer to the Apple Store and then come back home later on that day. It’s not what I want to do, but sometimes you just have to go along to get along….

We had dinner in Grado and it was okay. I had the Ganbare Nippon! set and F had a hamburger with their set of bread, salad, soup and coffee. He said his burger was burned on the bottom. I told him to send it back but he ate it anyway.

We got a few groceries and then came home. I turned on the TV and found a Broadway play on, Memphis so I started watching that. It was great. F wasn’t so sure though.

Anyway, that’s about it for my day. I’m happy that things are normalising between us, but I wouldn’t say everything is hunky-dory yet.

Tomorrow I’m back at work and hopefully that will go well. Wish me luck! Night.

Sunday - Sunny or cloudy? Didn’t go out until it was evening.

Nothing much to write about here today.

I got up, I got dressed. I ate. Later on I went out to get some food and have fries at McDonalds. Just wanted to be around normal people for a change.

Came home later, ate food. That’s about it.

I wasn’t spoken to for most of the day. When I suggested going out for a meal I was turned down so I went alone.

That’s about it. Really, what are we, twelve? Guess I’ll have to check my passport to find out! Night.

Saturday - Rainy in the morning, sunny in the afternoon

What a day. Not a good one.

Got up okay this morning, showered and spent a bit of time at my computer. Then, got up and started putting brunch on the table. I asked F to help. He ignored me. I finished everything and asked him to come over and sit down. He wasn’t too happy. I told him that I needed him to sit down before I did, because I block his entry to his seat at the table. He got mad and left.

I was quite upset, since I’d gone to all of the trouble of setting the table, making drinks and putting out the food. I ate and then left for work. Luckily for me, the rain had stopped and it was quite warm and sunny outside. I bicycled to work. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take my computer to work and I forgot my books because I was upset.

I got to school and had a pretty good day there to be honest. My classes went well and the students were happy. I read the paper between classes and then at the end of the day I finished up. I headed home when it was still quite light.

When I got home the door was barred and it made me angry. I rang the door bell several times and finally it was opened. I had thought about going to see a film tonight, but decided not to because I am not sure about the weather and the idiotic drivers in this city.

For dinner I had the last of my fabulous stew while someone else went out. When he came back we got down to the serious business of having a fight. He claims that he was trying to find a hotel for us to stay at in Sendai, but I had told him I didn’t want to go to Sendai.

He watched his usual crapTV before going to bed just before 12. I was happy to see him go.

I watched my shows, first Top Gear and then Heroes. Now, I’m watching Sex and the City 2 in Japanese. It looks awful. I’m glad I didn’t pay to see it!

I think I’ll likely go to bed soon. I’m not sure what tomorrow is going to be like. Yes, my computer is acting up, but no, I’m not ready to take it to Sendai.

Anyway, that’s it for me. Hopefully I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Night.
