Wednesday - Sunny but a little cool

I got up this morning around 8 am and went downstairs. After I came back up I watched the news and then ended up snoozing again. I went a bit over time but no big deal. I sorted some laundry and took a load downstairs and threw it in the machine.

I grabbed breakfast and then came upstairs to eat it. I watched a bit of TV including the news from early in the morning. I did a second load of laundry and answered some email. I heard from my friend that her package arrived, so that was good.

In the afternoon I did some paperwork to finish up the job I had this month. I sent the scans of the paperwork in with a thank you letter to the company.

I watched the news and then came downstairs to get a start on dinner. I was busy for a couple of hours, at least that’s how I felt. I made two stir-fries tonight. One was broccoli and shrimp, which I’ve made before. The other was a spinach and mushroom stir-fry that I dressed with some balsamic vinegar.  They were both really good. I put them on the table and then we ate. We had salad and F and K had rice too.

I got to do all of the dishes again, but I listened to the news and then Pride and Prejudice again so time passed quickly. When I finished the dishes, I just went upstairs! I had done enough in my opinion!

I came upstairs and F came up a little later. I looked into upgrading my computer and found that I had a surprising amount of podcasts saved on my computer. Some were news broadcasts from 4 years ago for example, what the heck? I wasn’t going to listen to them again, so I deleted them. I started my computer updating and went to take my shower. I did up the garbage both upstairs and in the kitchen first though.

After my shower and while the computer was still doing its thing, I did a bit of crochet while watching Shameless. It’s getting quite interesting as usual!

F went to bed fairly early and is snoozing away. He’s not having a good day so I hope the early night is good for him.

And that’s about it for me. Not sure what I’ll get up to tomorrow. For the last few weeks I’ve had to get up on Thursday morning to go into work, and tomorrow I don’t have to do that. Woot!

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….

Tuesday - Cloudy and muggy

It was nice to sleep in a little, except I woke up around 5:30. F had gone downstairs and I thought he’d gone to work until I looked at my phone and realized what time it was. I made a trip downstairs too and then went back to sleep.

When I woke up, he really was gone. I had a really hard time getting up this morning. I just couldn’t get out of bed. I stayed in bed a bit too long, but no harm done really.

I had a quiet day today. I watched a bit of YouTube and surfed the net a bit. I had my lunch around 1:30 for a change and I gave K a piece of yesterday’s quiche for her lunch. She got some vegetables with it too, so that was nice of me!  I had my usual lunch and it was okay.

A bit before 4 I washed my dishes and then watched the 4 pm news. After that, I started to get ready. I was ready by 5:30 so I went downstairs with my stuff. F called me a few minutes later when I was waiting for the taxi. The taxi showed up while I was on the phone so I had to ring off. I yelled goodbye to K and she came out and locked the door after me.  That was nice of her.

The taxi ride was basically uneventful except at one point the driver asked me to if there was one more block to go to my place and I understood him. Woot! I told him there was.

Work was fine tonight. It was sad since it was my last class there, at least for now. One of the ladies at the desk gave me a thank you/goodbye present, so that was nice!

F was waiting outside for me in the car and chatted with my students for a couple of minutes. They had to leave and then we did too.

We ended up at Gusto again tonight. I had the Keema curry dish tonight that I’ve been eying for the last few visits. It was really good, which was a tad surprising! Gusto isn’t always good. I am usually pleased though. We had drink bar, F had a dessert since he had already eaten dinner.

After dinner, we headed to the grocery store and I picked up stuff for the next couple of evening's worth of dinners. Tomorrow I’m planning to do the broccoli shrimp dish again and then probably pasta on Thursday. Probably!

We were on our way back to the house and were about 200 meters away from it when F’s phone rang. His mother was calling to tell him to come home! It’s rather funny since we were almost there but F had to pull over to talk to her!

When we got back to the house a few minutes later K had gone to bed, but she got up afterward. F told her that we were out because of my work, it was sort of true! We weren’t anywhere that we should be sorry for, and the big thing is, we are both adults! We aren’t teenagers that need to be scolded for staying out late.

Back at the house, we put away the groceries and then came upstairs. I watched Prodigal Son as usual on Tuesday. I did a bit of crochet during it. Tonight was the end of season one and something happened that I really did not see. It is quite difficult to surprise me at this point so I was delighted by that!

And that was it for my day. Tomorrow I have to finish up some stuff from the classes and just decompress. I also have to do laundry!

Come back later if you like and hear all about my Wednesday. Until tomorrow….

Monday - Sunny and warm

I went to bed rather early last night, so managed to get up on time this morning quite easily. I had a quiet morning, I had breakfast and then got dressed. I was ready when the taxi pulled up so went off to work.

My class went well today and it was a little sad to say goodbye to the students.  I caught my taxi afterward and I got back to the house. I said hello to K and then went upstairs.

I mostly relaxed this afternoon, apart from doing a little paperwork. I did watch a Kenneth Branagh film, All is True. It was a little slow, but okay.  Around 5:30 I went downstairs to start getting dinner underway. I had already taken out the eggs earlier to warm up. I was making a quiche. While I was gathering things up, I noticed the empty milk carton sitting on the side of the sink. Oh no! Sure enough, K had drunk all of the milk. I fired off a text to F asking him to pick up more milk. He called me back a couple of minutes later and said he would do it for me.

I got on with the making. I precooked the mushrooms and the bacon, chopped up the spinach, and even beat the eggs. I just needed F to bring me some milk!

He arrived and he did bring us some milk.  He went upstairs to rest and I got back to work. A few minutes later I had the quiche in the oven. The pan I used was bigger than the space in the oven, so it was banging on the sides for a bit, but I turned it around so it was better. Of course, I had to open the oven to do that.

I got the rest of the dinner ready while it was baking. I put things on the table and when the quiche cooked in the oven, I did dishes and cooked the rest of the mushrooms.

I texted F to come down and got the table set.

Dinner was quite good. We had quiche, salad, fried mushrooms, and some beets, plus miso soup. We all had seconds on the quiche, just not as much as the first time.

After dinner, I cleared the table and did the dishes. It didn’t take too much time. I had time to listen to Canadian news and a chapter of Pride and Prejudice. When I finished I just went upstairs. I didn’t say bye to anyone, I just needed to relax longer.

At 11 pm I watched The Good Wife. We just started season 6 and it was quite chilling. I haven’t seen these episodes yet.

F went to bed a bit earlier. I’m up later than I should be, but no worries. I do work tomorrow but in the evening.

I’m now blogging and watching a little bit of YouTube. I’ll go to bed soon and start all over again tomorrow morning!

So, please come back later if you like to read all about my day. Until tomorrow….

Sunday - Cloudy and rainy but warm

Today was a nice day. I didn’t really expect too much from it, but I overall enjoyed it, so that was good.

We went to bed quite late last night too, but not as bad as on Friday night. F was up before me as usual, but I got up at 11 and got dressed.  He made something for his mother’s brunch and then we went out for lunch. We were going to try a new place, but it didn’t have parking and looked crowded so we kept going. I suggested a new place on the main street, so we tried it out. They served Chinese style ramen and also sauced katsu on rice so F had the ramen and I had the katsu done. Mine was huge. It was okay, a bit greasy, and actually too big for my lunch, but I ate it anyway.

After lunch, we headed out of town. F wanted to check where a couple of places were for his future position at work. Yes, he’s getting transferred again, within the same building but a different department. We drove off into some very country areas. It was nice driving though and the views were good so I didn’t mind. I didn’t even fall asleep as usual so that was good. He was looking for a couple of dams, one of them was quite big, the other seemed a lot smaller.

We drove back through Sakata and stopped at Starbucks for a quick couple of frappuccino’s and then came back to Tsuruoka. We decided that we’d take K out tonight for dinner. She hasn’t been anywhere with us in ages.

F and I relaxed for a while, then around 7 pm we went out with K. The place we planned to go to was really busy, so decided not to risk it. The next place we thought of was closed already, then we ended up at Nagomi, the soba and udon place I like. We hadn’t been there in ages and it was empty so a good choice for us. K and F both had tempura soba and I had my favourite duck udon. They flavour the broth with a little bit of yuzu which just cuts the duck’s slightly fatty taste. Yum.

We had to keep making K put her mask on at the restaurant. She put it on to go in, but then as soon as she sat down, she took it off. We made her put it back on. She wanted to drink, so we showed her that it was okay to take a drink, but to please put the mask back on afterwards. I’m not sure if she really understands the whole mask thing. I think she’s used her mask about 10 times already! It’s a disposable one, not a fabric one.

We brought her back to the house and then F and I went and did a little shopping. I bought some cheese at Yamaya since I won’t be going to Costco for a while.  (Yamagata is having a surge in Covid cases, sad to say.) We got a few snacks there too.

We went to the grocery store and I got ingredients to make a crustless quiche for dinner tomorrow. I think it’ll have bacon, mushrooms and a bit of spinach in it. And cheese. Must have cheese!

We came back to the house and I took a shower. It was going well and I was nearly ready to get out when the hot water stopped. It got cold very fast! I dried off, got my breakfast ready for tomorrow and then went upstairs and asked F if the water heater had run out of fuel. He didn’t think it had but said he’d check it and take a shower too.

He came up a little later and apologized to me because the water heater had run out of kerosene! He put some in and we should have hot water again. Woot. He told me I could take another shower if I wanted, but I’m fine really!

So that’s about it for today. Tomorrow I’m back at work. It’s my last week of work, I have two more classes and then I’m done, at least for now. I’ve enjoyed it for the most part. When I’m not doing it, I forget just how much I enjoy teaching!

Well, that’s it for me for tonight. Come back later if you like and hear all about my Monday. Until tomorrow….

Saturday - Sunny and warmish

Last night, or really, early this morning when F and I went to bed, it was 5 am. Yes, really. Sigh. I couldn’t get myself off to bed for some reason. I woke up a couple of hours later and noticed that my friend had suggested meeting today for lunch at her new to her house. I checked with F who was awake and he said it was okay. I texted her back that lunch was fine, but we were having a lazy morning. She also said she didn’t want us to bring anything.

I slept for a couple hours more.  When I got up, I sent F off to get something for his mother’s lunch and dinner too, since we didn’t plan to come back early tonight. He did, and he also bought a couple of things to take with us for lunch. I grabbed some beets from the kitchen, since I know my friend likes them.

Around 11:30 we set off for Sakata. It was a bit hazy out, but sunny. We couldn’t see Mt. Chokai for ages, but the fields around the road were beautiful.

We arrived a little late, but no one seemed to mind. We spent quite a few hours with our friend and her children. It was lovely for all of us as we haven’t spent much time together due to work and the pandemic.

F and I left around 5 pm when our friend and her children had to go and run errands. We decided to go and have dinner before our movie. F suggested going to an Indian restaurant in Sakata, it’s run by Japanese people but the food is pretty good. Unfortunately it didn’t open until 5:30. We waited in the car and when it did open there was a little crowd waiting to get in!

We had a really good meal there. I could have had spicier curry and the naan was a bit soggy, but the tandori chicken was lovely and tender. Surprisingly so in a way!

About halfway through our meal, I realized that there was no way we’d make the movie. Oh well. Honestly, it wasn’t one that I was dying to see. It’s biggest attraction for me was that it was in English! The reviews have been horrible for it, so I don’t think we missed much.

We left the restaurant after our meal and drove to Mikawa. I had suggested going to the Sakata Aeon Mall, but F blithely sailed past it, so I was a little sad. Oh well. In Mikawa we visited Don Quihote and picked up a few things. We bought masks and snacks, F got himself some adult beverages and we just enjoyed ourselves shopping and looking at “stuff”.

We came back to Tsuruoka and since we were both thirsty I suggested stopping at Mosburgers to get something to drink. F liked that idea, so he drove in that direction. I used my prepaid card and got us a couple of oolong teas. We sat for a while and chatted before coming back to the house.

Surprisingly K was still up when we arrived. I think F talked to her. We put the food away and then came upstairs.

We had a quiet evening in. I didn’t turn on the TV at all today! We both watched a bit of YouTube on our respective computers too. I did a few rows of crochet.

And that was our day. F is already sleeping and I should go to bed soon as I’m yawning away.

Come back later if you like to hear all about my Sunday. Until tomorrow….

Friday - Cloudy but warmer

I stayed up a bit late last night, but I was very tired for some reason. I woke up early, made a trip downstairs and then went back to sleep. I ended up sleeping quite late. F went downstairs around 10 to cook for his mother and I slept a bit later until my alarm went off at 11. I got up then and stayed up!

I got dressed and a few minutes later F came upstairs. We decided to go to Fujishima again to go to the restaurant that we couldn’t go to last weekend. We drove out to Fujishima, parked, walked to the restaurant annnnddd….it wasn’t open! The one we went to last time was full, so we had to go somewhere else. We Google-Mapped other places and ended up going to a Korean restaurant/izakaya.  We were the only customers too. The woman who was there made us a very hot and delicious bibinba without meat. I thought it was delicious, but F thought it was too spicy!

After lunch, we came back into Tsuruoka and bought some stuff at the drug store, then headed over to Komeda Coffee. We had some coffee and I also had a sandwich plate with a little fried chicken and salad. I asked F to share the sandwiches with me, and he did.

We came back to the house to relax for a while. I watched the PBS news and afterwards they put on the piano show which I love.  Basically, they put a piano in a train station or an airport and then film people playing it. It is really fascinating. It’s a great time filler, one I look forward to seeing!

After 5 pm I started to get ready for work. I changed, brushed my teeth and then at 5:45 F got ready and we left. He dropped me off at work and I went in.  I had a good class tonight and it was quite bittersweet to say goodbye to the students. I’ve taught two of them for years, since I first covered for one of my friends.

F picked me up after class and we came back to the house first. I changed my clothes and then F and I left again. He’d found a new to us place in a local magazine today and we thought we’d check them out tonight.

We found the place, but we had to park fairly far away. We walked over and went in. We were the only customers tonight so got to have quite good food, quite soon. We had gyoza, yakitori and also some yakisoba. The gyoza were the best and the yakitori were quite good too.

We came back to the house when we finished eating. I took a shower and then I watched BlackkKlansman.  It was really good. I find it hard to believe that I have never watched a Spike Lee film before.

And that’s about it. It was a good day basically. I’m not sure what I’ll get up to on Saturday. There’s actually a movie in English at the cinema in Mikawa. It isn’t a good movie, but at this point I don’t really care! I just want to see a movie (masked and socially distanced in a cinema with fresh air circulating all the time).

Come back later if you like and hear all about my Saturday. Until tomorrow….

March 25, 2021

 Thursday - Cloudy and warm

I went to bed fairly early last night which was a good thing. I slept fairly well, but did wake up a couple of times in the night. I also heard F when he got up, he’s noisy.  I got up before my alarm, had a mini-snooze until my alarm and then was up again.

I got ready for work and left when my taxi arrived. I had a pretty good couple of classes. My first class gave presents to each other and to me too! It was lovely. I got a couple of coasters and some cookies from the students. In the second class, one student gave everyone wagashi, or traditional Japanese sweets. She gave me two so when I came back to the house I gave one to K. Yay me!

Box of cookies.  I didn't photograph the student's name for his privacy.

Beautiful wagashi. I had the sakura one, it was lovely.

I had a fairly quiet afternoon I didn’t have to prepare anymore lessons, so I relaxed. I watched the morning’s news and then I watched an episode of The Walking Dead. Only 9 more to go I think! It was a good episode though.

When F called to say he was on his way back I told him that I was going to make pasta for dinner. I would put the chicken separately and he could choose to have some or not. I pointed out that if he didn’t want chicken, he could have some canned tuna or another fish.

I went downstairs and started to get things ready. I did a big salad, cut up some beets, washed some tomatoes, and cooked the chicken and pasta. I got things on the table fairly quickly after F came back.

We had a pretty good meal. The pasta sauce was butter garlic flavoured and it was better than I expected. The chicken worked well with it too. Most of the food disappeared.

I got to do the dishes of course too. Surprisingly though, K actually tried to help me by gathering the empty plates on the table. It was greatly appreciated to be honest. As I washed and dried the dishes, I listened to Pride and Prejudice again. It’s so good.

I went upstairs and finished my paperwork, then F came upstairs. I gave us each a cup of tea and one of the cookies from my student. We both did the YouTube thing, but then I watched a bit of TV at 11pm.

And, basically, that was my day. Tomorrow I have one evening class, but I also have F hanging around. He’s take the day off again. He promised me that he’d drive me to work tomorrow so that’s good!

Come back later if you will and hear all about my Friday. Until tomorrow….

March 24, 2021

Wednesday - Warm and sunny

I went to bed rather late last night and I couldn’t get up this morning. I had a very lazy morning to be honest. It was rather nice.

I got up finally and had a video chat with a friend. It was really nice to talk to her for a while.

I started prepping some lessons this afternoon and got a call from F. He was going to take the afternoon off. I got back to my planning and when he arrived I was nearly done.

F brought a big bento with him. They had an in-house party at his work and everyone got huge bentos. I shared some of his bento and there was much too much for us.

At dinner time we were still not hungry so I got to make K some dinner. It didn’t take too long, but I think she liked it. I was sorry that she had to eat alone though.

We waited a few hours and then I started to get hungry again. I asked F about going out but he hemmed and hawed for a bit before agreeing that he was hungry too. He kept whining about ramen but I didn’t want ramen. I countered with sushi so he grudgingly agreed. I didn’t want anything big, just something small.

When we finally got in the car he realized that the gas tank was nearly empty, so we had to fill that first. He did that and then we went to Kappa Sushi.

It was quiet and we got in right away. No big deal there for sushi. We had a few plates and also some tempura that was okay.

We came back to the house and I took a shower. I came upstairs and watched Shameless which was rather funny as usual.

And that’s about it. Honestly, it was a mostly quiet day for me, but I needed one. Tomorrow I start the day with two classes in a row, so I do need my beauty sleep.

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….

March 23, 2021

Tuesday-Sunny but cool

I woke up this morning and got up when my alarm went off. I went downstairs and then I came back upstairs and watched the news from the bed. I did end up snoozing a bit later, but it was fine really.

I got up and did a couple of loads of laundry, which was really good to do. It was necessary too. I got it done and hung it up. I saw the front door open at one point and was surprised. I thought maybe K had forgotten to close it so I went over to the door and she was out in the garage!  She came in and we had a little chat about the flowers my student gave me on Friday. She likes them too.

I had a mostly quiet day. I did some lesson prep for Thursday and I also watched a movie that I’ve heard about for a while, Disobedience. It was really good. I had lunch and while I was downstairs I gave K the plate I had made her last night, heated up and with extra salad. She seemed happy to have it.

Around 3:45 I came down to the kitchen to do my dishes and then I went back upstairs and watched the news. After the news I started to get dressed. The taxi came for me right on time today. I think he got a little lost in this area, but found me in time! I got to work in plenty of time and had quite a good lesson with the students tonight.

F picked me up after the lesson and we went to Gusto. I had another hamburg and he just had a small dessert and drink bar since he’d eaten before.

We went to the grocery store and I was getting things for dinner tonight and tomorrow night. I asked F what he wanted and he went into his “not meat” thing again. I was rather annoyed. I don’t cook fish, I like it, but I don’t like the kinds that he and his mother like. I also just don’t want to cook it. I had looked for broccoli to make the broccoli and shrimp dish I made last week or the week before, but what the store had looked a bit old and was quite expensive. F actually walked off on me at one point since I told him I needed stuff for me and wasn’t done yet.

He paid for the groceries and we came back to the house. We didn’t really talk for a long time until I noticed that he was rather drunk. He’d had quite a few cups of sake apparently and was quite loud and cheerful. I hope he’s still as happy in the morning!

I watched Prodigal Son and did a bit more of my crochet. I’m rethinking putting the bit that my friend crocheted into the blanket. It’s a cool idea, but we don’t crochet the same way and there are some differences in tension in her piece and to be blunt, some mistakes. Hmm. I have to think a bit more on it.

Anyway, F is sleeping now and I should head off to bed soon too. I am off tomorrow but I really should plan a couple of classes. I need to look at Friday’s class and the next class for tonight’s class.

That’s it for me. Come back later if you like and hear all about my Wednesday. Until tomorrow….

March 22, 2021

Monday - Cloudy and rainy

I went to bed before 2 am last night, so was able to get up when my alarm went off. Unfortunately I woke up earlier than that too. I woke up at 5:30 and also when F got up.

I got up and was having a fairly relaxed morning when K called me downstairs to say that the taxi was there. Huh? The poor guy thought that the booking was for 9:00 and I was late, but actually the booking was for 9:30 and I wasn’t quite ready yet! I asked him to come back and he said he would!

I finished getting ready and this time when I opened the door the taxi was outside. Yay. He drove me to the centre and I got down to business. Class was good and afterwards I came back to the house.

I came back in and came upstairs to our room. I worked on next week’s lesson for that class, got it done and then I had lunch and watched the news.

I went downstairs around 5:30 and started dinner. I knew that F would be late, but I wanted to make dinner for K and I.  Tonight I did yuzu flavoured chicken in the toaster oven, then some mushrooms, salad and some steamed vegetables and salad. I gave K some rice too.  We had a good dinner, I had to let her know that F would be late tonight.

I was halfway through doing the dishes when F called. He was on his way back.  I had made a plate for him, so when he arrived I gave that to him and then went upstairs.

That basically was my day. I watched some YouTube and relaxed a bit in the evening. I bagged up the plastic garbage to go out in the morning. Yay me.

Tomorrow evening I have another class, but I hope to do some prep in the daytime. Come back later and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….

March 21, 2021

Sunday - Rainy and coldish

I went to bed very late last night, so slept in again today. I woke up once, but F wasn’t around. I assumed he’d gone downstairs for a quick trip so fell back asleep. I woke up an hour later but he was still gone! This time, I went downstairs and he was in the living room with his mother. I came back upstairs, then eventually got back into bed. F came back upstairs and we had a PG-12 snuggle. We talked about places to have lunch and finally I suggested a nearby restaurant that isn’t very budget. F agreed, so we drove off there.

When we got there, the restaurant was closed so we missed their last order. He pulled into a grocery store parking lot and did a Google search and then we headed off. He didn’t really tell me much about where he was taking me. We ended up very near our old apartment (sob!) at a restaurant we’d walked and driven past often, but had never gone into. We were able to get a table despite not booking anything and had our lunch. F had a mentaiko cream spaghetti and I had carbonara. He liked his spaghetti and I didn’t like mine. It didn’t taste like carbonara should taste. I’m pretty sure it came out of a packet, and not a good one! We also had dessert and iced tea. The dessert, a chocola cake, was lovely.  I paid because we discovered before we went in that F hadn’t brought his wallet!

We went back to the house to get his wallet, and then we headed out again to Tokai, the yarn store. I bought a bit more yarn for the blanket I’m making. It doesn’t have the same dye lot, but hopefully the stripes will stop people from noticing.  I also renewed my membership there. F’s JAF (Auto Club membership) card meant I didn’t have to pay for it. Woot! I did have to pay for the yarn though, but got a discount for being a member.

After that, we didn’t really have anywhere to go, so we ended up driving out to Mikawa to the mall. We bought socks in the men’s department and then toddled along the mall to Doutors and had a couple of teas. I had rooibos, F had a Royal Milk Tea.

We came back into Tsuruoka after this. We talked about dinner along the way and nearly got into an argument again. I had suggested taking his mother out since she doesn’t go out much, but he wanted bentos. Then he suggested ordering in sushi. That would be okay, but from where? I reminded F that I had a discount coupon from his favourite place so we used that. F ordered some bentos and about an hour later they arrived.

Dinner was really good, but it was big too. I had chicken cutlet and sushi. It came with soup and a chawanmushi, F and K had sushi plus tempura and soba. K gave some of hers to F.

F did the dishes and got a bit shirty with me so I left the kitchen. I usually do them all and they aren’t much fun to do so I wanted to help. Oh well then.

F didn’t come back up, so I went downstairs after a bit and reminded him we still needed groceries. It was well after 9 pm and one of the places we go closes at 10.

We ended up going to MaxValu for our shopping. It is open all night, so that was fine, but it is a bit of a barn. While we were in the store, I started to feel really odd. I don’t think it was a panic attack, but it might have been close. I felt like something was wrong and that I might, not pass out exactly, but start hyperventilating or something. I said to F at one point that I wasn’t angry with him, but I was feeling really odd, so not to get angry with me if I acted strangely. He just looked at me.

We finished up our shopping and checked out. Now, lately, F has been using the self-check out and I hate it! At least today he did give me the bag of onions first as it was the heaviest thing, but he’s been known to load me up with light fragile things and then give me the heavy things to put on top of them! He misses the bar codes on things, he gets too close to the scanner…it is quite funny, except it isn’t. I am not much help as he does it all in Japanese. Yes, the machine has an English button, but it isn’t easier for him!

Anyway, we headed out to the car and I was greatly relieved that I managed to hold things together until I was out of the store.

We made a brief stop on the way to the house to pay the internet bill (F cannot understand why I want to make sure it is paid early!) and then came back here. We put away the groceries and then came upstairs. I filled up the kerosene tank and then took a shower, F took one later too. He wanted to watch TV up here tonight but I’m afraid that I discouraged it a bit. I said it was okay, but he went downstairs to watch it and then take his shower. And that’s it. That was my day today.

It was okay for most of it, but the evening was a bit strange. Hmm.

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….

Saturday - Sunny but windy and a little cool

I woke up fairly late but was up and basically dressed before 11, so that was good! F made his mother’s brunch and then the two of us went out for lunch. We drove over to Fujishima and found a new restaurant for us. It was in an old storage house and it was very nice. We had a very reasonable lunch for less than a thousand yen each.

After lunch, we did a little shopping. We stopped into a grocery store and looked at the hundred yen shop, then went over to the hardware store. I bought some paper and I think there was something for F, but anyway, we left.  We found a nearby drugstore and picked up a couple of things there too.

This looks so much like the Alberta prairie that I can't believe it!

We went back to Tsuruoka and went to a hundred yen shop. That was F’s idea, not mine.  I didn’t buy very much, actually, I’m not sure I bought anything. We were going to go to Komeda Coffee, but the parking lot was really full. I suggested going to Starbucks instead.  We got there and there were lots of parking spaces, and even places to sit inside. Woot.

We spent about an hour in the Starbucks, it was nice. I had a Frappuccino and F had a coffee. I stopped him from having a nitro coffee though. I had one once and then didn’t sleep for hours! I finished the book on my phone I'd been reading for a couple of days. It was okay. Not special really, but okay.

We went to the nearby drugstore and grabbed a bottle of windshield washing liquid. He’d been looking for it everywhere we went today. He wanted a specific type and we finally found it.

We decided that we’d go and get bentos for dinner. I suggested going to the good place and F was okay with that. We drove along to the bento shop, I went in and picked what I wanted with F. It was crowded so F suggested that I go back to the car and wait.  That was fine.

I was sitting in the car when my phone’s earthquake alarm went off. Then, the car started shaking. It wasn’t too bad over here, it was around a 3 on the Japanese system, but it did last a long time. On the other side of the country there was a tsunami warning, I’m not sure if there was one or not.

I was on my phone right away, trying to check out my friends and if they were okay. Most of the people I know on that side of the country checked in, so that was good. F came back to the car with the food and we went back to the house.

When we got back, I got the food out and on the table. We ate and the bentos were good. I enjoyed mine a lot. I had a spicy chicken with fried rice and it was delicious.

I got to do the dishes and then I came upstairs. F came up a bit later and got ready for bed. He did take a shower too though. I did a bit of crochet and also watched the last three episodes of Ted Lasso on Apple+ TV. I really enjoyed it. The crochet too, although I’m nearly out of yarn. Sigh.

That’s about it really. F is most likely asleep. It’s late and I should get to bed soon. It’s been a mostly good day, even though the earthquake was something I’d rather hadn’t happened.

I’m actually not sure what we’ll get up to tomorrow so you might just have to come back and find out! Until tomorrow….

Friday - Coolish and sunny

I got up around 8am the first time, then close to 11 am the second. Oh dear. Still, no worries. I got dressed and then waited for F to decide what he wanted to do! We wasted a lot of time, but finally went out for lunch. Unfortunately, we went out just before 2…most nice places close at 2 for lunch. After a few bad ideas, I finally suggested going to a place in S-Mall.

We found a good parking space and got to S-Mall just before 2 pm and were able to order their special. It was okay. I wouldn’t say it was the nicest stuff ever, but it really wasn’t that bad at all. It was a mixed-fry which consisted of two croquettes and a fried shrimp, plus the usual accompaniments.

After lunch, F and I went up to the post office and mailed off a present to my bestie in Canada. I’m hoping it’ll be there before her birthday. Fingers crossed.

F dropped me off at the house before going to see the eye doctor. He’s been having problems with his eyes feeling dry.  The doctor thinks it is an allergy problem, I know of quite a few people with the same problems so I tend to agree with him.

We relaxed for a while and then I got ready for work. I asked F to drive me to work tonight and he obliged. I made him leave early because I really didn’t want to be late like yesterday or worried about whether he was going to let me down! He didn’t.

I got to the school in time and I set up. A few minutes after I came one of the students arrived bringing flowers. He gave me a bunch and the other student today a bunch. How sweet. They were so pretty. He’s a farmer who grows flowers for flower shops, but it was still a lovely gesture.

After class, I sent off my students, got a text from my husband saying he was waiting in the parking lot and I finished up. I turned in my paperwork and then went out to the parking lot. I got halfway down the lane of the parking lot only to discover that F was parked in the next building’s parking lot! I backtracked and met up with my husband.

He’d already eaten and I couldn’t face going to Gusto again, so suggested going to Cocos instead. We did go there and had a fairly decent meal. I had a pasta with lots of vegetables and then shared some fries with F. He had a seafood ajillo and ordered himself a birthday dessert, which is odd, since it isn’t his birthday! It was free too, so I guess it’s okay?!  He had a coupon for one on his app!

We came back to the house afterwards and I put the flowers in some water. They smell gorgeous.

I took a shower and then watched The Good Wife which was rather good as usual. Afterwards I turned off the TV and turned to YouTube.

I spent a long time on my computer or my phone and then started this blog. And here I am!

I’m not sure what we’re going to get up to tomorrow. We might have lunch in a small town just outside the city, or we might oversleep and stay here! Come back later and find out!

Until tomorrow….

Thursday - Cloudy and a little cool

F woke me up again this morning, so I had a serious talk with myself about whether I should get up or snooze longer. I decided to snooze, but got up around the right time. I had breakfast and then got dressed. I went downstairs and waited for the taxi. It didn’t come. Usually it is there 5 minutes before it was scheduled, but today it didn’t show up. I had asked that my afternoon taxi be cancelled, not my morning one! I called my supervisor, who called the taxi company. They’d cancelled both. Sigh. They sent another taxi right away, but I got to work with just 7 minutes to spare. Too close for me.

Classes, after all that went well, and so did the meeting I had afterwards, except the taxi driver came upstairs looking for me! Umm, that taxi was cancelled…remember? Oh dear.

After my meeting, I turned in my paperwork, asked if I could leave my books and shoes behind and went to Arpeggio for lunch. That was nice. The owner was surprised to see me by myself, but the restaurant wasn’t busy and I had a nice lunch. I had my usual soboru-don.

I did think about trying to take a bus downtown, but then I thought I would rather walk and see the shops along the way. I often go along the road with F, but he isn’t interested in the shops and the car doesn’t slow down, so this way worked. I had a good walk, but by the time I got to S-Mall, I was a little tired.

I went into the mall and did a little shopping. Nothing major. I figured I deserved some ice cream, so got that, then did more walking around. Around 5 pm I went to Doutors and found myself a quiet corner. I had a lovely glass of iced rooibos tea and read part of a book that has been on my phone for yonks. It is good actually. F called me about 5:30 and showed up around 6pm. I handed over my prepaid card and invited him to get himself a drink. I got another rooibos, but this time a hot one. He brought back the drinks and the card, he said he put some more money on it. He’s sweet sometimes!

We talked about what to do for dinner. I had earlier suggested bentos all round since I wouldn’t be able to cook in time. F countered with going out for drinks, just us two and a bento for K. I let him talk me into it.

We got K some food and dropped it off at the house. We both changed our clothes and then he called us a taxi.  We went to an izakaya that he likes and had some yakitori and F had a couple of drinks. After a while we decided to leave and go to a different place, so we went out and walked to the second bar. Unfortunately, it was closed tonight! Oh no!

We went to another place, more of a snack I think. It was still a bar, not too busy, but F has a bottle stored there for himself. He didn’t have any of it, he had sake. I finally had a drink, an umeshu on the rocks. It was nice, not too strong, not too sweet. There was more food but after two cups of sake, F was ready to go back to the house. I was long past ready, so he had a taxi called and when it arrived, we came back here.

It was a nice evening out. I can’t help thinking it was pretty stupid of us to go out right now though. I hope we don’t end up regretting it.

I stayed up and watched some TV and then basically started blogging.

I’ve no idea what we’ll get up to tomorrow. I have an evening class, but F is off. I want and need to go to the post office to mail a parcel to Canada, so I hope that F will help me with that. He doesn’t have to do much, just take me to the post office really. I was thinking about taking it to work with me today, but I didn’t want to carry it that far!

So that was my day. A bit different from the usual stay and home and whine thing, but all in all a good day.

Come back later if you feel like it and hear about my Friday. Until tomorrow….

March 17, 2021

Wednesday - Warmer but a bit cloudy

I woke up this morning because F was noisy again. I rolled over and slept on though. I got up at my alarm, but since I didn’t have to work today, did my watching the news from the bed. I fell asleep for a bit. However, I got up and did a load of laundry early on. K wasn’t up for a long time, but did get up eventually.

I had a quiet day. I prepared a couple of lessons today and also had the weird thing happen when I wrote up a lesson plan for a class and then after I printed it out I discovered that I had already made a lesson plan for the class. They were very similar!

I went downstairs just before 6 to get dinner started. It was a simple one tonight, just reheating the curry and heating up the croquettes that we’d bought last night. F called me to say he was on his way, but it took a while before he got here.

When he arrived he told me that yesterday when he got back to the house, he found his mother up in our bedroom. He was really surprised because he saw the light on from outside but knew I had left for work.

I’m glad I didn’t know. I thought she’d stopped doing that. It really irks me. What on earth does she think she is doing?

Anyway, dinner was fine. The croquettes were good and the curry is finished. Since F was tired tonight I didn’t make him take me to the store. I told him we’d probably have to have bentos tomorrow night and I think he’s okay with that. I hope. He’s off on Friday too, so I’ll let him worry about dinner.

After I did the dishes, I went upstairs. I did up the garbage and then took a shower. F took one tonight too, but earlier than I did. I came upstairs and watched Shameless which was its usual crazy self and then started to blog.

Tomorrow I will be teaching in the am, then I have a meeting with someone about continuing the classes after the end of the month. I am not convinced that it would be a good thing for me. There are a lot of negative points at the moment. I’m not sure what else I’ll get up to, although I think I might go to S-Mall and hack around a little.

If you want to find out about my Thursday, you’ll have to come on back a bit later. Until tomorrow….

March 16, 2021

Tuesday - Drizzly and cool

I woke up this morning while F was getting up. I managed to fall asleep again, and then dragged myself out of bed a bit late this morning. Oh well.

I had a quiet morning really. I started doing some lesson planning quite early on. I planned two lessons today, but one of them took a little extra time. I like to look for ways to bring us out of the texts, so it takes a little extra work.

Around 5 pm I washed my dishes from the day then started getting ready for work. When I got downstairs with my backpack and shoes, the taxi arrived a minute later.  I said goodbye to K and then left. Tonight’s lesson went very well, I’m glad to say.

Afterwards, F was late. I texted him and waited and waited. I was staying inside so I felt safe at least. A little while later he arrived and off we went.

We went to Gusto for a late dinner. Today I had a shrimp doria and shared an order of fries with F. He had eaten with K at the house, so he just had dessert and a few of the fries. We both had drink bar and drank a few different types of stuff.

After dinner we went to MaxValu to get a few groceries. Unfortunately F didn’t have a lot of money, so we had to keep things simple and cheap. I think we managed. I got a few things for dinner tomorrow night, and my lunch. Yay me.

We came back to the house and I watched Prodigal Son and did a few rows of crochet. I changed yarn colours too, so it took a little bit of time to do that.

And that’s my day. Tomorrow I’m off work, but I have to do some prep for next week. I hope I get a lot done! Come back later if you will and hear about my day. Until tomorrow….

March 15, 2021

Monday - Cloudy and windy

I woke up quite early this morning, went downstairs and then came back to bed. I managed to get a little more sleep before getting up at 8 am. F was up and out earlier. He was a bit noisy so he woke me up!

I got up, ate breakfast, brushed my teeth, got dressed and then went downstairs. The taxi showed up a little early so I went off to work.

My class went quite well today, so that was good. I also set up a meeting for later in the week about extending my work, so we’ll see how that goes.

I came back to the house and started to relax. I had lunch after a bit. I checked over my class for tomorrow and it is okay. I finished paperwork for today’s class and planned next Monday’s class too. Woot.

I had a quiet afternoon, I watched the news which was on late today, and then went downstairs after F called to say he was coming back. I started making curry. The prep took a bit of time as usual and then cooking was a bit long too. We didn’t eat until close to 8:00pm. It was good though! We had curry with salad from the store. A lot of curry disappeared, but there is quite a bit left for tomorrow. I think F is going to serve it for his dinner with K tomorrow night. I might even have more tomorrow too!

I did the dishes and then came upstairs. F came up a little later and we had a quiet evening. I watched the rebroadcast of the Grammys. For the first time in a long time, I actually knew some of the music. I also found out that a country singer that I liked a lot died last year, K.T. Oslin. It’s quite sad, she had Parkinson’s and she died of Covid-19.

F and I finished off the White Day cake that he gave me last night and had some tea. That was nice. The cake was excellent.

So that was about it for my day. Tomorrow in the daytime I hope to prepare more lessons and then I have to go and teach in the evening. Happily, that lesson is already prepared!

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….

March 14, 2021

Sunday - Rainy and colder - Happy Pi Day!

I stayed up very late last night, so slept in a bit. I woke up around 10 and then finally stayed up around 11. Not too bad. When F came back after making his mother’s breakfast he did something that surprised me. He suggested going to the lovely little restaurant just up the road. Since he threw a tantrum in the place the last time we went I was surprised he’d suggest it, but I wanted to go. We were able to get seated in the back right away and both had the quiche lunch. It was tuna and potato quiche and I thought it was lovely. F wasn’t as convinced, but so what!

After lunch we went to the Chido Museum to see the Hina Doll display. As always, I really enjoyed it. There was also a Doll House display in another part of the museum. One man spent his time creating amazing miniature houses with working lights, realistic furniture and furnishings. They were amazing really.

F and I also made a trip over to the garden. The snow has melted there and it is just beginning to look alive again. He saw an old cherry tree there that is almost completely hollowed out. It is still alive, but there is no core to the tree.

After our time in the Chido Museum, we went to Komeda Coffee for a bit of dessert and internet time. Our first choices of dessert were already finished today, so we tried different ones. I liked mine, I think F was okay with his too. F’s phone was nearly out of juice, so I loaned him my spare battery until it was empty.

When we finished at Komeda, we made a trip to the hundred yen shop. I didn’t buy anything, of course I would have liked to, but didn’t find what I was looking for there. F got a couple of things though.

We bought groceries at MaxValu. I’m going to make curry for dinner tomorrow night. F can heat it up on Tuesday for K and him, or he can make his usual ramen and we can have it on Wednesday. It doesn’t really matter. F seems to really like my curry, I’m not sure why! I just follow the instructions on the curry roux packet.

We came back to the house briefly. I put away the groceries and F gave his mother the bento we got her. We went out again for our dinner.

F suggested a little place that I’ve never been before, so I thought it was okay. It was a tiny little Chinese restaurant run by Japanese people. F had his favourite yakisoba with starchy sauce and 5 things on top, I had mabo-don or spicy tofu on rice. Mine wasn’t spicy enough really, but it did taste good. We shared some gyoza as well.

After dinner, we did a quick run to a drugstore to get some filtered water. I needed some. He also bought some kerosene at the gas station, since we were getting low. March is still surprisingly cold at times.

At the house tonight, F discovered that two of the three motion sensor lights he bought at Costco don’t work properly. They were on all the time, they should only come on when they detect motion. At least, that’s what we wanted. I took a shower and F watched some TV. I was really surprised since he doesn’t usually ask to watch it. I didn’t mind too much!

And that’s about it for my day. I’m back to work tomorrow with a morning class. When I come back I’ll have to do some prep for later in the week. Should be okay I think.

Come back later if you like and hear how the curry making goes! Until tomorrow….
