- 15) The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larsson (August 19, 2010)
A cracking great read from Sweden. The story features a disgraced journalist, a computer hacker and an old old mystery. The characters don't seem to have a connection and then all of a sudden, they do. To say much more would be to spoil your fun when you read this. A great novel and a very nice translation too. A must read.

August 2010 Books
I only completed one book in August. I read a lot of newspapers and a few magazines as well though. The book was a good one. I loved it!
August 2010 Movies
I saw three films in August. I enjoyed all of them! They were all action films and not erudite, but for a hot summer month, a good way to spend a couple of hours.
- 24) The A-Team - Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (August 21, 2010)
It's TV's The A-Team rebooted for a new generation and it's a lot of fun. There isn't a lot of work for your brain, but it is rather fun to see the new cast take on the old characters. All in all, they do a pretty good job. There's a lot of hokum, lots of explosions but unlike the TV show, people die in this one. Fun for fans, and a few laughs from the new characters. Worth checking out if you like this sort of thing! Stay in your seats for a couple of scenes at the very end, especially if you were a fan of the original show.

Evelyn Salt is a married CIA agent who is asked to interview a possible Russian agent on the day of her anniversary. When he fingers her as a spy, he sets in motion a chain of events that may bring about a nuclear war.
Angelina Jolie is one of the few actresses today who could be believeable in this part. She runs, jumps from truck to truck, climbs walls, shoots and hits and we buy it because she looks like maybe she could do this in real life. It's a great, summer action movie. It is not exactly a feel good time at the movies, but it's better than it had to be.
I would say that fans of Angelina will love it, and action fans will like it too.

Twas Tuesday, and darn hot and sunny. Again.
A good day. I woke up all sweaty and yucky again. I think it’s getting hotter instead of cooler. Usually this time of year it is a shade cooler than this…I put my pillow in the room with the dehumidifier this morning to try to dry it out.
There was news on! I was so excited. I watched it, and then after a little bit of computer stuff, took my shower. After I turned on the AC because it was too hot and too sticky for me.
I had an uneventful morning really. I did get quite tired a little before I had to start getting ready for work, so I had a naplet on the couch. No big deal. I made my omelette and then headed off to work.
My school was 35 degrees inside today. Ack. I decided to try putting up one of the panels that I bought for winter to keep the cold out. I put it next to the window, not even taped or anything and it immediately seemed a degree or two cooler. Yay. I left it there too!
I had two classes today with 3 hours between them. I did consider going shopping in the middle time, but decided to do some work instead. I prepped 2 classes, did lots of paperwork and did my bookkeeping up till last week, so it was productive time. I also read most of one paper.
After school I cleaned up a bit, read another newspaper and then called F to come and get me.
We had a nice dinner in New York, New York and then bought a few groceries. F actually made a request for a dish for dinner tomorrow so we got the ingredients. I’m going to try it for him. And, I think I’m going to make some soup in my crockpot. Hope that goes well!
We came home and watched American Idol. Tonight was the Top Twelve and the category was The Rolling Stones. Most people did well. I enjoyed the show, but only one or two people were really good. F went to bed near the end.
That’s my day. Tomorrow I’m not sure how much computer time I’ll have as I’ll be cooking up a storm and hopefully going out for a bit of a break in the afternoon. Night.

It’s Monday and it was hot and sunny. Again!
A pretty good day. I didn’t sleep that well. I got up to make a washroom run, woke hubby coming back to bed. We chatted a little, then went back to sleep. A stupid bird made a horrible noise before 7 and woke me up. Then, after F left, I got up around 8 and stayed up for a bit. I went back to bed, setting my alarm for later. I slept through it and woke up quite late. Gah!
I watched the news, hurray and spent time on my computer. I did a few loads of laundry. It was a good thing as I had almost run out of certain unmentionables! I watched some of my weekend’s TV taping. It was so cool, Greg Evigan was on Cold Case! You know what that means, right?
Time for a little bit of zany 70’s fun! And, funnily enough, Ed Lauter was on too, and he was a guest star on BJ and the Bear in the past too.
I toddled off to the post office and the convenience store around 4pm today. I was going to take some coins to the post office, but realised that the bank part of the post office closes at 4, so didn’t.
I came home again and just enjoyed the cool.
F was a little late tonight but seemed in a good mood tonight. He vegged for a while and then we went out for dinner. It was an odd one tonight. He begged for ramen, so we went to a ramen restaurant for him first. I had a plate of gyoza while he ate a ramen set with fried rice and gyoza. Then, we went to Gusto where I ate! I had a beef yakiniku plate. It was okay, but not terrific. He had dessert and we both had drink bar. We came home afterwards.
F found Hairspray on TV tonight and even though we have the dvd, watched it again. He’s quite funny. He acted like it was the first time he saw it today. It is such a fun movie, with a really neat message behind it.
Later on, I watched That 70’s Show which was a Christmas show tonight. Quite funny. Red dressed up as Santa and told the children about Vietnam. Mmm’kay!
Anyway, that’s it for me. I’ve been working madly on my Journal column tonight and I think it’s okay. I do want to do a proofread in the morning and a little stewing to make sure it’s really what I want to say. It’s quite long, so long that I wrote to the editor and asked if I should cut it in two pieces. Yikes! We’ll see.
I’m off to work tomorrow. Wish me luck! Night.

Sunday - Hot and sunny.
A mostly unpleasant day. I decided not to bother getting up early this morning and I’m glad I didn’t. When I did finally get up after 12, F was ensconced on the couch with the headphones on watching some Japanese Telethon. I waved to him, but he didn’t acknowledge me.
This basically went on for hours and hours. I cooked myself a light brunch and then he asked if I wanted to go out and eat. I said I didn’t. This kind of thing.
Finally we started talking and then arguing. Well, I tried to talk and tell him why I’m upset, but all I got was basically told that all my concerns were hormonal. Yeah, right. He tried telling me a few things that weren’t true, I called him on them and he admitted that he had made a mistake.
Anyway, after a bit, we went out to dinner. We went to Aki, the Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki place we like. It was quite crowded but we got a table. We ordered and it took ages for our food to arrive. We didn’t really talk to each other.
After the meal we went to the drugstore to get some bug repellent because we were going to look at fireflies. Or so we thought. When we got to the place there wasn’t anybody there.
We drove around our city and went to Mr. Donut for a coffee and a doughnut each, then hit the grocery store for a few things.
We came home and F went to bed soon after. I spent a long time re-reading my blog and discovered that we went to see fireflies in June last year, so we were a bit late to see any this year.
I’m probably going to go to bed soon. I’m quite tired. Emotional upsets wear me out, and so does this weather. Shouldn’t it be cooling off a bit now?

Saturday - Hot and sunny again.
The short version? Bad day.
F buggered off in the morning and didn’t come back by the time I had to leave for work, so I left for work. I went to Gusto without him and got to my school nice and early.
I stayed there the rest of the day, almost literally. I was scheduled for 3 classes today, although the second one didn’t happen. In between my classes I worked on a couple of things for the Journal. I worked on a piece for the theme, and also got dug into my Jane Austen piece. Yay for that.
After my last class I did dishes and then got out my computer again and did a lot of writing. I have written a lot, almost enough to break the article into two pieces I think. Maybe. I stayed at the school until quite late but didn’t hear from my husband. Finally I decided to go home. It was close to 10 pm when I left my school.
The roads were quiet and luckily my bike’s light worked well. My backpack was quite heavy but that was because of my computer being in it.
I got home and the door was barred. I rang the doorbell and was let in. I really wasn’t spoken to, except for a mumbled apology over barring the door. When I came into the main part of the apartment it was hotter than it was outside. No AC was on.
F went to bed, but got up a couple of times. I made myself some yummy mac and cheese and while I was noshing it was asked if I wanted something else to eat. Well, the time for that was past so I said no thanks.
I think he had something and then went to bed where he’s snoring away.
I’m really quite annoyed by this. I don’t need any more stress on a Saturday than I already have and have decided that I really need to talk to F about it. In all honesty, I’d rather get myself to work on Saturday because it’s a lot less stressful than wondering if F is going to come back or not, or which restaurant to go to, or even if he’s going to drive me or dump me off halfway. I don’t get in his way when he goes to work, I really don’t understand why he keeps putting up obstacles for me.
Anyway, I’m out of here. Got to go. Night!

Friday - Hot and sunny.
An okay day. The doorbell rang this morning before I got up. I think it was the Yoshikei lady, but I checked to make sure it wasn’t someone important and then went back to sleep. Before 9:00 am is not the time to be drumming up business with me.
I got up, but there wasn’t any news. Sigh. No weird movies today either, at least not in English.
Around 1:00 I had the brainy idea to run out to the local bakery for something to eat so I did that. I’m rather glad as I didn’t go out again all day. I got a few things and the lady in the shop gave me a couple of freebies. Do I look undernourished?
Came home, ate, read the paper and watched my afternoon shows, then got back on line. F came back around 6 and then took a nap. Finally around 8:30 I started cooking dinner after doing a bit of prep beforehand. I asked the hubster to make us some coffee, which he did, while I cooked the pork and the eggplant. I did a garlic basil coating on the eggplant and it was okay. I’m not sure if it is the Japanese eggplants, the marinade or what, but I’m not entirely sure about this method. Back to the recipe websites I think.
We had miso pork with grilled eggplant, salad and celery sticks with dips of choice. It was very nice. I don’t usually eat celery so it really was a treat to have it for a change. I did the dishes afterwards too, and started watching Emma.
After I finished the dishes I sat on the couch and did a bit of crochet. It’s going really well this time and I’m just enjoying working with my hands. It’s funny how calming it is. We had an ice cream each and then F got up and started making a whole bunch of noise right at the end of the movie. I was so annoyed. It was the nice quiet scene where Emma and Mr. Knightley are confessing their love for each other and he’s crackling paper and plastic and banging pots and pans in the kitchen. He could have waited 10 more minutes and I wouldn’t have cared, but it was important for him to ruin the movie for me.
We actually haven’t spoken since. I think he’s gone to bed but I don’t care.
I watched Top Gear at midnight. I have so much fun watching that show. Tonight they were taking part in a 24 hour race with a car that they re-built themselves. It was quite cool really. The race looked dangerous, and for a change they took things quite seriously.
That’s about it. It really was a quiet day today. Tomorrow I’m back at work again and it’ll be one of those all day things. I’m scheduled for 3 classes, but I hope to take my computer along as I have to work on my journal column.

Thursday - Hot and sunny. Humid too.
I just had a quick gander at last year’s report for today and I said that the nights were getting chilly and I was putting blankets on the bed again. This year…even the towelkets are getting pushed off in the middle of the night. With the windows open in our apartment it is oppressively hot and humid. Do not like it at all.
Last night before I went to bed, I tried to tape Sense and Sensibility. I had seen it before, but a long time ago and I wanted to re-watch it before I write a review on it. However, when I set the VCR last night, I goofed. I mixed up the AM and PM kanji on my remote and didn’t tape it. The dumbest thing though is that I was up anyway and didn’t think to check it. Argh. (Insert swear word of choice instead.)
This morning I got up mostly on time and got up too. I couldn’t watch news, but watched bits of a very weird Marianne Faithful movie (Did she make any other kind?) Basically she was getting married to one man, but carrying on with another. I think the other man gave her a motorcycle (but not a helmet…really loves her eh?) and whenever she rode the motorcycle she got very sexually excited, if you catch my drift. And then, at the end of the film she…well, she wasn’t watching where she was going while riding a motorcycle at high speed unfortunately. So bizarre!
Did a few things in the apartment today, and even took a nap for a few minutes. It was less than an hour and I felt pretty decent when I woke up, so that was good.
I made my lunch and then headed off to my school. It was hot there. Yuck. I started the AC and reviewed things. Got changed and taught my lessons. Things went fairly well, except my first student won’t be around for a few weeks as he has a school activity he has to do. I’ll actually miss him. The kid that was a real challenge for me has now become someone I look forward to seeing every week.
My other two classes went well, except I had to talk to the mother of the second student and we only had a few minutes before my 3rd class started. I didn’t quite get everything done before the 3 student came but luckily, my last student is very easy going.
After school I did paperwork and called F. Tonight we dined at Cocos and it was pretty good. I had jambalaya and barbecue chicken. It was quite spicy, but not overly so for me. The barbecued chicken was really kara-age so I’m not sure why they call it barbecued, but that’s life in Japan.
We came home via the grocery store where we bought a few things for dinner tomorrow. I even managed to snag a bunch of celery for 100 yen. Occasionally they’ve started to have more north American style celery. I’m not a big fan of it, but thought it might be nice to have it raw with some dips over dinner. F was okay with that idea as long as I don’t chop it into little pieces. I wouldn’t dream of it dear!
We got home at midnight and just vegged for a while. F went to bed and I’m still here, but I think I’ll be going to bed soon.
I don’t have any big plans tomorrow, but hopefully I’ll get started on my column and maybe go out for coffee or a tea? I’m not sure. Wish me luck on that! Got to go. Night!

Wednesday - Thunder and rain in the am, hot and sunny for the rest of the day.
I went to bed late last night so had a bit of trouble getting out of bed this morning. I was awake though. Mother Nature saw to that with her torrential rainstorm and thunder at 8:45 or so.
I got up and there was news on. Hurray! I watched it, and did a few things on the internet. I even vacuumed! I watched Hustle from last night and then went out for a bit. I had errands to run.
I went to the post office where I mailed off a birthday card to a friend, paid for my books for my school, and made a deposit of coins to my account. I talked to F tonight about using the coins from his coin jars to pay for our anniversary dinner. He seems to like the idea.
After that, I walked across the street to the bank and donated a lot of pop bottle lids. They have a big collection bin. Unfortunately the bin didn’t have a liftable lid, just a small hole in the front, so I had to keep feeding the bottle caps in one by one. We had a huge bag of them and I kept dropping them. The doors in the bank lobby are sensor driven so every time that I picked up a cap, the doors opened! Ack. When I finished that, I made some deposits into my school’s account. I wanted to get rid of the accumulated coin from my school too, so I dumped it into the ATM. I wasn’t completely sure it would work, but it did. Yay. My backpack was now considerably lighter!
I hummed and hawed about going to the grocery store and buying stuff for dinner or going to the convenience store and buying munchies for me. Convenience store won and I bought a few things and went home.
It was a lovely day out. Very hot and sunny, but there was a bit of a breeze too, so it wasn’t too bad.
Back at home I watched the weekend’s Medium and ate lunch and watched TV for a while. F came home a bit late today, around 6:30.
When he came home, I asked if he’d take me to the post office to pick up my parcels, so he did. It was a bit hard to find parking so he dropped me off and went to the other side to park. I got my parcels, and then F helped me carry them to the car.
I asked if he’d rather go out for dinner or go to the supermarket to buy something. I was thinking of getting something along the lines of roast beef and doing sandwiches, but he suggested a restaurant. Then agreed to supermarket. Then, halfway to the store suggested a restaurant. We went to the Daiichi Hotel and had Yamagata Beef. It was very nice and we actually had a nice discussion…a conversation if you will.
We came home and had a quiet evening for a bit. After a while I put on American Idol and we watched the first bit of it together, then F took his bath and then went to bed. I worked on my crochet and when I ran out of wool, I unwound some from my frogged project. I got it horribly tangled and it took ages to sort it all out. Tomorrow, or whenever I have time, I’ll roll it into a proper ball.
And that’s about it for today for me. I’ve had a good day. Tomorrow I’ll be a little more busy. Wish me luck! Night.

Tuesday - Sunny and hot.
A good day. I went to bed early last night, early for me that is. It was before 2:30. Yay me.
I got up at a good time this morning too and showered fairly early. I watched a Zac Efron movie, 17 Again and found it to be quite cute. It was no Twilight, thankfully! I did my computer stuff and then had my brunch at 1:00ish. Today I had my usual omelette plus a few mushrooms leftover from yesterday. Yum.
I headed off to school on time and got there shortly. It was so hot out. Riding on the road was nasty as the heat just seemed to be reflecting back at me.
I got my school cooled down and set up for the day. When my student’s time came, she wasn’t there. She ended up being 10 minutes late, which is later than usual for her. We had an okay class, but she tends to stay a little longer than I’d like. It’s almost like she wants to get the 10 minutes back from me. I don’t give extra time when students are late unless my schedule allows it and the reason was good. Hmm. I did suggest to her that we bump her lesson by 5 minutes in the future so that she doesn’t miss too much, but she said she’d rather not do that.
I had a long break in the middle and I had originally planned to go out shopping, but changed my mind and stayed in. It was hot and I had a lot of paperwork things to do. I drank tea, I read newspapers and I relaxed for a bit.
My later student showed up on time and we had a good class. We went over a speech she is writing and I made comments to try and improve it. At one point she wrote about “a group of elkes” so I had to correct her spelling. I also suggested she change group to herd. We started getting a little off topic by talking about the collective names for animals, so I have to do a bit of research for her for next class. I love it when students get interested in new topics.
After class I cleaned up, did paperwork and prepped a little. I called F just before I did dishes and then he came and picked me up.
We went to Fireball tonight and had a very nice dinner. I ordered a set dinner with chicken and eggplant spaghetti in a tomato cream sauce that was very tasty, and F ordered pizza with shrimp, avocado and barbecue sauce. It was okay, but I wouldn’t have ordered it.
We came home and settled in for some American Idol. It was rather good tonight. We got two hours of it and I enjoyed it a lot. F actually stayed up and watched it all. I also re-started a crochet project that I had stopped months ago, and got farther this time than I did before. I’m thinking it might make a nice Christmas present. Might!
And that’s about it for me. It’s late again, but I don’t work tomorrow so I’m not too worried. I do have a few banking errands to run so I had better do them. Got to go. Night!

Monday - Hot, probably sunny, but I didn’t go out.
An okay day I suppose. I got up but then went back to bed after checking email and stuff. Just couldn’t be bothered staying up.
I had a bagel for breakfast and then got working on dinner. I hard cooked 2 eggs and left them to cool for a bit. Later on I washed all the lettuce and made a salad out of them, the eggs and some mushrooms. I realised halfway through that I should have had some bacon in there too. That would have improved it.
During the day I watched a Clint Eastwood movie that I’d taped last night. It was Bloodwork, which I enjoyed. It was one of his movies that I didn’t manage to see in the theatre and I have been trying to see for ages. It was good, however I guess who the bad guy was using one of Ebert’s Laws of Movies. The Law of Economy of Characters to be specific.
Later on I watched Cold Case and then CSI. It was their 200th show and it was a bit odd. Still, better than a lot of stuff.
F came home and was in an odd mood. I asked him to clear off the coffee table. He has a nasty habit of just dumping stuff on it and of course I have no idea if it is important or not. He had notes from work, bill receipts, travel brochures and other things all in the mix. Did we need it? I don’t know.
I made dinner and finally he deigned to come over and eat. We had cubic steak and salad, plus some kabocha croquettes. I liked it, but was still hungry after dinner. I had a peach afterwards. Yummy.
He put the TV back on and proceeded to watch 3 hours of crappy Japanese TV in a row and since one of the shows was about toilets, I do mean that literally. Bleck. On the other hand, I dug in at my computer and watched about 4 episodes of The Big Bang Theory, so I at least enjoyed myself.
And that’s about it for my day. It was kind of boring. Still, it’s almost over and I’m back to work on the morrow. Wish me luck. Night!

Sunday - Hot and very sunny.
A pretty good day today. I tried to get up early. I did wake up early, but things happen and I didn’t get up until 1ish. Oh well, it was Sunday after all.
We had a nice lunch in Kintaro Sushi. Afterwards we got gas for the car and then I needed a drink so we went off to the mall. The Doutors was busy so we went shopping instead. F got himself another new wallet (he wanted two new ones) and then while we were in the video store, we found Up. He ended up buying Up. I went off to the hundred yen shop where I soon realised that getting a drink was really no longer an option. Sushi makes me very thirsty and I was already feeling a bit dehydrated, so I needed liquid stat!
We had a nice iced Royal Milk Tea each in the shop and discussed what to do. Going home won. We were supposed to watch a movie, but I didn’t really want to.
We watched some dumb movies on WOWOW and then went out for dinner. Tonight we went to Grado. We had to take some of my newspapers there anyway so we had two reasons for going. The waiter from last time was there, but he seemed to have recovered from his cold, thank goodness. F had what I usually have, the meat plate, and I had the seaweed pasta. It was so very yummy. Jumanji was playing on the TV in the restaurant, and F kept saying how much it reminded him of Zathura. I told him I wasn’t surprised because Zathura was by the same author. F hasn’t seen Jumanji, which I’m almost shocked about. It’s been on TV so many times.
We picked up a few things for dinner tomorrow night. I’m a little miffed at the grocery store though. We got there a little after 9 pm tonight and they were out of almost everything. The premade salads…gone. The ground beef/pork mix…gone. Most of the interesting veggies were MIA too. Just not impressed with the store anymore. Since I couldn’t get a premade salad, I had to buy lettuce which means I’ll have to wash lettuce. Oh heavens. I hate that. I’m going to add in some mini tomatoes, some raw mushrooms, and I think a hard cooked egg if I get myself sorted tomorrow.
We came home again and watched the tail end of National Treasure and then F went to bed after a bit of vegging on the couch. I’m still up, but what else is new?
I did one good thing today though, I booked us a couple of tours when we’re away next month. Hopefully they’ll be good. They sounded really interesting.

Saturday - Hot and sunny. Gets a bit boring!
Turned out to be an okay day.
This morning wasn’t great though. I got up and discovered that F had just taken a shower and was doing laundry. It was annoying because I was the person who really needed to take a shower. I stopped the washing while I was in the shower. The heat and steam from his shower was nearly overwhelming. We had a few words and he left for a bit, but did come back.
We went to Gusto for brunch and then F dropped me off at my school. I got set up quickly and my student came when it was time. We had a good lesson. She learns so quickly. When the class was over, we opened the door only to find her mother was asleep on the floor! Usually she wakes ups before we came out, but today she didn’t.
I did a whirlwind of turning things off or down and then grabbed my purse and went outside. F wasn’t there! But, then I saw him coming down the street. Hurray. He picked me up and we zoomed over to the dentist’s office. My visit wasn’t too bad today, except they did another brushing of my teeth. Ack. I cannot express how annoying it is to get my husband and me on a Saturday, my busiest work day, into the dentist’s office only to get my teeth brushed by the hygienist. The dentist did examine me and she asked me to come back in November. I told her that food is still getting stuck in my teeth, but not much can be done about it.
We left the clinic and then returned our DVDs. Then, I suggested going to Mosburgers for a drink. We went and had coffee milkshakes. They were nice, but not strong enough. Then, I asked F to take me back to my school.
At the school I did the dishes, my paperwork for my lessons, then read the newspaper. After that it was time to get ready for my classes. Both students came and they went fairly well.
After classes I did a very very quick finish up and called F. He came for me and we zoomed over to the Machida-Kinema. We bought our tickets, and then saw a friend of ours in the lobby. We went over and said hello, then ran off to have dinner. The restaurant there is in the chain that our favourite Tonkatsu shop belongs to. F had ramen (of course it wasn’t real ramen!) and I had a pork and veggie stir-fry. It was good and quite different from the last one I had as the vegetables had changed.
F paid for the meal and I went and paid for the popcorn and drinks. We went into the theatre and saw The A-Team. I hardly ever got to watch The A-Team when it was on as we only had two channels and it wasn’t shown on either of them. However, the movie was quite fun. We both enjoyed it and I howled a few times at some of Sharlto Copley’s jokes. One in particular was very unexpected, but so funny. We both enjoyed the movie a lot. I can see it having a sequel or two made. It wasn’t a particularly intelligent film, but it was quite amusing.
We left the theatre and came home. At home we relaxed for a bit. F made us drinks and I watched the new 90210. Later on I watched House. It was an odd one to be honest.
And that’s my day. It started with arguments, but ended rather nicely. Talk to you tomorrow. Night!

Friday - Hot and sunny, a tiny bit cooler.
An okay day. I didn’t sleep well last night, I’m not sure why really. By the time my alarms went off I was half asleep, half awake and not feeling too happy. I got up, discovered there was no news again, and then stayed up.
Early on I decided to get dinner started. I was going to make Grilled Lemon-Oregano Chicken, so I needed to do the marinade. (I think yesterday I called it Lemon-Basil…I made a mistake.) I had most of the ingredients, so I whipped up the mix and put the chicken in it to soak for the afternoon.
I was tired of there being nothing on TV, so I put on a Friends dvd. I watched one whole dvd from the 5th season, starting from Ross’s wedding to Emily. It was really funny and it managed to cheer me up quite a bit.
Around 4:30 I decided to go out for a drink, so I went to S-Mall and hit my favourite places, the 100 yen shop and the coffee shop. I had a yogurt drink there and then cruised the grocery store. I didn’t find anything I wanted to I came home. All the time I was in the mall I checked my phone in case my hubby called me. He didn’t.
On the way home, I heard a car honk and looked up. Sure enough it was F. I was busy riding my bike and couldn’t wave or anything.
I got home and he hasn’t turned on the AC or done anything really. I wasn’t too happy to be honest. We had a bit of back and forth fighting. I wanted him to take me to the grocery store, he wanted to take a shower and a nap. Finally, I took a nap and then he turned on the TV. Blah blah blah, we ended up going to the store but he wasn’t very nice about it. Didn’t talk to me at all.
We came home again and I cooked dinner. I did stir-fried asparagus and grilled the chicken. I set the table and he put the tofu in our dishes and prepared his rice. We actually had a nice dinner, although he didn’t really say much about how good everything was.
He did the dishes and then I settled in on the couch to watch Northanger Abby. It was really good. It’s my least favourite of the Jane books, but this version was funny and the leads were a good match. Quite glad I went the extra distance to rent it after all.
Hub went to bed at 11…I was surprised considering tomorrow isn’t a work day for him, but whatever. I stayed up and watched Top Gear and then The 4400. I enjoyed both.
I’ll probably go to bed fairly soon. Not sure about after work tomorrow, but I’ve got quite a day tomorrow. I have work from 12:00, dentist at 2:00 and then two more classes back to back from 5 pm to 7:00pm. We might see a movie afterwards if I can move myself. Depends on that. And we have to take back the dvds. Sigh!

I didn’t find anything I wanted to I came home. All the time I was in the mall I checked my phone in case my hubby called me. He didn’t.
On the way home, I heard a car honk and looked up. Sure enough it was F. I was busy riding my bike and couldn’t wave or anything.
I got home and he hasn’t turned on the AC or done anything really. I wasn’t too happy to be honest. We had a bit of back and forth fighting. I wanted him to take me to the grocery store, he wanted to take a shower and a nap. Finally, I took a nap and then he turned on the TV. Blah blah blah, we ended up going to the store but he wasn’t very nice about it. Didn’t talk to me at all.
We came home again and I cooked dinner. I did stir-fried asparagus and grilled the chicken. I set the table and he put the tofu in our dishes and prepared his rice. We actually had a nice dinner, although he didn’t really say much about how good everything was.
He did the dishes and then I settled in on the couch to watch Northanger Abby. It was really good. It’s my least favourite of the Jane books, but this version was funny and the leads were a good match. Quite glad I went the extra distance to rent it after all.
Hub went to bed at 11…I was surprised considering tomorrow isn’t a work day for him, but whatever. I stayed up and watched Top Gear and then The 4400. I enjoyed both.
I’ll probably go to bed fairly soon. Not sure about after work tomorrow, but I’ve got quite a day tomorrow. I have work from 12:00, dentist at 2:00 and then two more classes back to back from 5 pm to 7:00pm. We might see a movie afterwards if I can move myself. Depends on that. And we have to take back the dvds. Sigh!

Thursday - Hot and sunny. Gorgeous day.
A good day. I got up at a little later than I should, but not so late that I’d miss anything interesting. I showered fairly soon and finished up my book. I finally finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I loved it. It had such interesting characters and a very exciting story line. There were many threads to begin with and I wasn’t sure how they were going to connect. Now I’ll have to get hold of the next book.
I did my internet work after my shower and drank a lot of iced tea today. I managed not to use the AC until the afternoon, which is a happy thing!
I cooked my lunch around 3 and then left for work a few minutes before 4. When I grabbed my bike I was surprised to see there were about 100 caterpillars all around the area. When I left the bike shelter there were even more. Yuck. Not my favourite things.
My school was really hot, but I got it cooled down to a reasonable range soon enough. I set up for my classes and then taught 3 classes tonight. They all went fairly well. I went way off script for the last class, but I think it was okay. We talked about words that haven’t quite made it into the dictionary yet. It was fun.
After classes I did paperwork, finished reading the paper and then I called F to come and get me. He did, and we went to Cocos for dinner. I didn’t want anything too heavy so I had the taco salad and some Buffalo chicken. It wasn’t authentic, it was more like kara-age covered in a spicy barbecue sauce, but was rather nice.
We went to the grocery store on the way home and I picked up some lemon, chicken, asparagus and fake cheese. The lemon, and chicken will become a lovely lemon-basil chicken I think and the asparagus will hopefully become a lovely stir-fry. I need something else though.
At home again I went over some possible tour options for F and I when we’re on holiday next month. He’s still mulling over the idea of extending our trip by a day. I told him that I didn’t mind, but he’d better hurry up and talk to the travel agent about it or we won’t be able to at all.
He went to bed a little while ago and I’m still up. Tomorrow I’m off work, but I’ll make up the marinade for the chicken early on and then I might go out for a bit. I sort of hate to waste the lovely weather on staying home.

Wednesday - Hot and sunny, gorgeous day!
A lovely day. I went to bed quite late last night and just after I had dropped off, we got a torrential rainstorm. It woke me up and I got up to close the window. I couldn’t sleep for a bit. When I woke up this morning I was quite tired.
I got up, showered, spent a bit of time on the computer and then headed out. I was a woman on a mission.
I went to Kintaro Sushi where I met up with one of the women from AFWJ and the sub-group Duos. She’s been touring Shonai with her husband and the three of us had a really nice lunch together. I’m not sure her husband got to say very much, because the two of us were gabbing away, but it was lovely! Poor F, I think he really would have liked to meet another husband with a Canadian wife, but he had to work.
After they went on their way, I visited the craft store and the drug store and didn’t buy anything. Shocking I know! I visited the grocery store looking for tonight’s dinner, but didn’t find anything I wanted to cook. I did find one bagel though, so I bought it.
I stopped into the McDonalds for a McFlurry and a diet coke. I know…what’s the point, right? But I never drink real Coke anyway.
I came home and melted from all the heat. I watched a bit of TV and just relaxed and enjoyed myself.
F came home around 6 and I made him an iced tea. We spent some time together and then ended up taking a nap! It was almost 9 when we woke up.
We had dinner in Edoichi and it was okay. They keep improving some of the things about the place, except tonight there was barely any chicken available. I was a bit sad as I like chicken a lot. When it came to dessert I made a horrible mistake. I decided to go with some ice cream. They had a big fridge full of different flavours but not all of them were marked. I saw one at the back that was a pale yellow with brown bits in it. I thought it would be vanilla with cookie crumbs. A lot of vanilla ice cream is yellowish. I also took a scoop of chocolate, because…hey, it’s chocolate.
I sat down, took a spoonful of the vanilla with cookie crumbs and put it in my mouth. And nearly spat it back out there and then. It was BANANA and cookie crumbs. Oh, the horror, the horror.
The worst thing is that the banana ice cream keeps coming back up via burpage and it is twice as horrible the second time around.
We came home and settled in on the couch for American Idol. It was a pretty good show tonight. The women did quite nicely. There were a few performances that I thought weren’t great, but a lot were good.
And that was my day. It was pretty good.
Tomorrow night I’m working late at the school, but I have some time at home in the daytime. Hurray for that. I’ll report in tomorrow night. Bye!

Tuesday - Hot and sunny, nice day!
I had a good day today. I got up at a reasonable time and checked for news. Of course, there wasn’t any, but I still stayed up.
I showered and did other morning stuff, spent a bit of time on my computer and then set out for the post office. I had to mail a letter and a small package. I decided to take some of hubby’s coin collection to the post office with me. We’ve agreed to use some of the funds on our holiday next month, although I might suggest that we use them for our anniversary dinner or something instead.
I set off to the post office and did my stuff, then came back home. I watched a bit of telly and then made my brunch and went off to work.
I stopped into the drugstore on the way because I wanted to buy a few things for myself. While I was there I saw some soap shaped like tofu and I remembered that we were supposed to have tofu for dinner last night, but I forgot all about it! It was still in the fridge. I had such a bad headache last night that it totally slipped my mind and I didn’t see the package when I opened the fridge. F had put it on the top shelf which is quite far about my line of sight.
I biked to the school. It was a bit hot in there, about 32 degrees. I got it cooled down and got to work. After a bit, I read some of the newspaper and then stopped to have my class. We had a good class tonight and covered about what I wanted to, so that was good.
After class I cleaned up, finished up the Sunday paper and called my hubby. He came and picked me up.
We had dinner in New York, New York, which is becoming our place to go when we don’t know where else to go. It’s okay, but not great. Then, we came home and didn’t go to the grocery store tomorrow. If I have time tomorrow after my lunch, I’ll stop in and see if there’s anything at the store that I’d like to cook for dinner. Wish me luck with that!
F and I came home and watched American Idol. It was the men’s turn tonight and some people were really great and some not so great. An enjoyable show though.
And that’s it. Tomorrow I’m meeting someone for lunch and then who knows? I’m still reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at every chance I get, so I hope to finish it soon as I can’t wait to find out what happens.

Monday - Rainy and cloudy most of the day.
An okay day. I went to bed a bit late last night, and before I did, F got up for a bit. I went to bed and then so did he. I slept reasonably well after a while.
This morning when I first woke up it was so humid that I couldn’t bear it so I turned on the AC and went back to sleep. I woke up late. It didn’t really matter since I didn’t have plans for today. I took a shower and then got on with my day.
I watched some of my taped shows from the weekend and also did a few extra things that I needed to do. I also read some of my book. It’s getting very good.
When F came home he said he was hungry so he got his rice set up and then after a bit I got cooking. I cut up some zucchini and fried it in a mixture of oil and olive oil. When it was done I splashed a little red wine vinegar on it. I started the chicken and had it done rather quickly too.
We had a nice dinner. F raved about the zucchini and I have to admit that it was really nice! The salad went well with the zucchini and the chicken. I was just finishing my meal when my phone rang. A woman I know from AFWJ is in the area and we wanted to make arrangements to meet up. We’ll try to get together on Wednesday for lunch. Yay.
In the evening I finally finished all of the things I needed to fill in for my passport application. I have to get my guarantor to help me fill out a few things, but apart from that, I just need to get the money orders and then I should be ready to send it. I’ll have to wait until after our trip though.
I also got the little gift we bought yesterday ready to pop in the mail. I had to ask F to sign the card, so I couldn’t do it earlier today.
I didn’t watch much TV this evening, but I did tune in for That 70’s Show and rather enjoyed it.
Anyway, I’m done. Have a good night!

Sunday - Hot and sunny, with clouds too.
An okay day. I woke up this morning at 11 am and got up fairly soon afterward. F worked on my letter to students that I had written yesterday and got it translated. He printed it out and discovered that his printer was almost out of ink. Oh dear.
We had lunch at TREnTA and it was quite nice. We had pizza, 2 kinds of pasta, a salad and an appetiser for 3000 yen. We got up to leave and pay and F stopped halfway to the door and looked in his wallet with an odd look on his face. He had only 1000 yen in his wallet. Luckily for him, I had exactly 3000 yen, so between us we were able to pay.
We did a little running around in the area after F visited a bank machine and got some food at Yamaya and some blank video tapes at the hardware store. The hardware store didn’t have the right sort of ink for F’s printer so we went across the city to the other side. On the way past the old centre of town I realised we were passing the department store I’d wanted to visit. We went there and got a small present for friends who have just had a baby. Then, on to the electronic shop.
F found ink there, picked it up and we left. We stopped in at the drugstore on the way home, no big deal.
At home, I used my computer for a while, before I went and took a nap. A long 2 hour nap.
When I woke up, someone was pleading hunger, so we went out to Jiro. It was busy, but we were able to get in. We ordered and then F said that he was going to the drugstore to get some eyedrops. He left and I waited on. He got back just as my dish arrived and we ate. Dinner was good.
We hit the grocery store on the way back and got things for tomorrow night’s dinner. I might have a visitor but I’m not sure of her schedule. The fixings will wait a day or two if I have company tomorrow night.
We settled in to watch Becoming Jane. F spent the first 20 minutes of it transferring the contents of his old wallet to the new one he bought today at the department store. Argh. During the movie he also decided to cut his toenails. Then at the end, when it explains what happens to the characters after the movie’s scope, he said to me…”Was it a true story?” ARGH. Yes, and no…I thought he knew that when I told him at the beginning it was based on Jane Austen’s life. (He likes the movies of Austen’s works, he just has no concept of when they were written.)
I watched the extras on the disc and enjoyed them. He went to bed but I don’t think he’s sleeping all that well. Feel a bit sorry for him really.
And that was my day. It was mostly good as we ran some needed errands, but also a bit annoying as F decided to be an idiot too many times.
Tomorrow I’m a lady of leisure hopefully and I’ll be finishing up a few projects of my own. Talk to you tomorrow night about what happens. Night!

Saturday - Rainy and hot.
I had a busy day today. I got up a bit after 9 and showered. F didn’t go to the doctor and didn’t get in my way which was amazing! I decided to take my computer to work as I thought I would be able to get a lot of work done. I was right.
We had an okay brunch at Gusto and then F dropped me off at my school. Because of the lack of sun my school wasn’t as hot as it has been lately, but I still needed the air conditioner on.
My first class went well. I was surprised to receive a box of chocolates from my student. She’d been to Australia this week and just got back to our city today. I confused the poor kid today as well because we discussed seasons and I tried to explain that Australia was in winter at the moment. She said it couldn’t be because there wasn’t any snow! I think it was the first time someone tried to explain the concept of opposing seasons to her, and considering how young she is, I didn’t expect her to really get it.
After her class I had a long break. I was busy though. I did a load of laundry at the school…I use all cloth towels for students, so I have to wash them after they are used…I also prepped several weeks of lessons for some students, plus wrote out the letter for my holidays that I want F to translate. I did paper work, read two newspapers and even had a light lunch. Yay me. One thing that wasn’t as nice was a bit of an upset stomach.
My second student of the day came at 6 pm and we had a good lesson. We did a lot of reading and discussion, so I think it was good for her.

We had dinner in Coco Ichibankan . As I was worried about my stomach I didn’t have spicy curry, I had their mildest type. I was just going to start my dish when I noticed a long clear thread glinting in the light at about my eye level. I followed it up and sure enough, there was a spider above our heads near the ceiling. Yikes. I showed F and we called the waitress over and asked to be moved. We changed tables and when the people who had been sitting near us left, the waitresses tried to get rid of the spider! I think they managed, although I’m not sure. This season there tends to be a lot of spiders around.
We popped into the Geo near that side of town and picked up a few dvds. We got Red Eye, and also Becoming Jane and Northanger Abbey.
We came home and F asked that we watch Red Eye. It was his choice because of course it is an airplane movie! It was quite good. It was reasonably believable and quite suspenseful.
At 12:50 I watched House and after that, F has been watching really weird stuff. I think it’s some kind of old Japanese Anime. I of course am not interested in that!
I’ll probably go to bed fairly soon. It’s a little late after all. Anyway…no idea what we’ll do tomorrow. Find me tomorrow night and find out. Night!

We changed tables and when the people who had been sitting near us left, the waitresses tried to get rid of the spider! I think they managed, although I’m not sure. This season there tends to be a lot of spiders around.
We popped into the Geo near that side of town and picked up a few dvds. We got Red Eye, and also Becoming Jane and Northanger Abbey.
We came home and F asked that we watch Red Eye. It was his choice because of course it is an airplane movie! It was quite good. It was reasonably believable and quite suspenseful.
At 12:50 I watched House and after that, F has been watching really weird stuff. I think it’s some kind of old Japanese Anime. I of course am not interested in that!
I’ll probably go to bed fairly soon. It’s a little late after all. Anyway…no idea what we’ll do tomorrow. Find me tomorrow night and find out. Night!
