Windy, a little cooler and windy. Very windy!
Well, my suitcase is basically packed, my overflow box is packed too and I've taken my cold medicine so I can get to sleep soon. I had a great day today.
I had to let my friend know that I was sick as I didn't want her to pass on my cold to her husband or daughter who both have health problems. After a bit of phoning on both sides, we decided to risk meeting for lunch.
She picked me up and we went to BP in Beaumont. I had a salad and we shared a plate of calamari. We spent a couple of hours together just gabbing away and annoying the waitress. Sadly, our time came to an end and she brought me back to Van's.
After the kids came home from school we chatted for a bit and then Van took us out to do grocery shopping. I did a bit of banking at the same time. I picked up a few souvenirs for my students.
We had a quiet evening in. I repacked my suitcase and then the box that I'll get my sister to send to me. We had pizza for dinner which was a nice treat for me. I had Hawaiian which I can't get in Japan!
I'm feeling better tonight, and I've been taking my medicine pretty faithfully. I hopefully will be okay to fly tomorrow.
I'm yawning away and I have an early morning so I should sign off now. I'll catch you again when I'm back home, probably on Thursday Japan time. Bye until then!

Sunny and warm, with strong winds.
I had a good day today and if I hadn't been sick it would have been a great day. I went out shopping with Michelle.
Van woke me up early and I showered and had breakfast. Then we waited for Michelle to come.
Michelle and I went to quite a few places in Edmonton and both spent quite a bit of money. However, I don't think that I really overspent. I'm quite happy with the things I got. We had lunch at Earls. We both had salads which were very good. I couldn't smell mine very well, but it seemed nice!
She brought me home after coffee and then I had dinner with Van's family. We had chicken with cheese and ham in it. Van had made it and it was quite good.
In the evening I relaxed a bit and have decided to get to bed fairly early tonight as I'm rather tired. My plan is to take a cold pill and get some sleep. Tomorrow is my last day here. It's gone so fast, I can hardly believe it.

Cooler and very windy.
It was a good day today, but when I woke up this morning my cold was in full force. Bleck. I had a relaxing morning at home but in the afternoon went out with Kate.
We went to see The Time Traveler's Wife. It was good and I think Kate was very into it. I was worried when she seemed to be upset at the end.
After the film, we visited a book store then went to Earl's for dessert. We followed the advice of the waitress and got the Sticky Toffee Chocolate Pudding which was amazing and very delicious. We had a nice chat and a good time, which was the point of the outing.
We came home after that and a little while later Van and her family went out. I stayed home, did laundry and prepacked my suitcase. So far so good, fingers crossed.
Anyway, when everyone came home a bit later I joined them, read to Zach and then came downstairs, supposedly to go to bed. I really should. I'll take a bit of medicine and hopefully my nose will unstuff enough to let me get some sleep.
Wish me luck...I gotta go! Night.

Warm and sunny, gorgeous day
Today my friend wasn't able to meet me this morning either, so I relaxed a bit around Van's house. After 1, Van drove me to Southgate again and dropped me off. I went shopping of course!
I found a few things which I got. I got more undies and a pair of pajamas. Had a bit of a bad experience at one of the checkouts when the clerk took another customer before me, despite the fact that there was a sign on his (the customer's) side saying the till was closed and he was doing returns. I was quite annoyed. At Sears though, I had a good experience with the pajamas so I was happy. It was really nice to get a new set. Not terribly gorgeous or anything, just nice ones.
After a not very healthy lunch of poutine (only once a year, I promise!) and diet A&W root beer, I headed up to Whyte Ave. I visited my bank quickly, then walked along Whyte Ave. It changes so much every year. I took a detour and wandered along by my old apartments. It was a little sad, but also nice to see that they are still there and haven't been torn down or rebuilt. I got tired, so I went into Chapters to take a rest at the Starbucks for a bit.
A little before 6 I went to the meeting place. I met Massie at The Second Cup in the Varscona Hotel. We went over to Continental Treat and had a lovely German meal. I haven't really had German food in years, so it was a nice treat. We had dill pickle soup, weiner schnitzel and apple struedel for dessert. We shared dessert because we were both really full!
I caught a bus back to Southgate and got there just before the mall closed. I walked over to the entrance to look for my ride. I couldn't get into The Bay as the doors were already closed, so I went out the main door and walked to the meeting door. I saw a vehicle that looked like Joe's so I went over. It was him. Yay! We drove back to Beaumont.
Back at Van's we all decided to watch a movie. We watched a Harry Potter one, but everyone except Kate and I fell asleep. We decided to give up too about halfway through. I came downstairs to watch TV and blog.
It was a nice day today. Tomorrow I think Kate and I will go and see a film and do a little shopping. Not sure really. I think it'll be fun though. So, I'll bid you adieu and probably update on the morrow. Night!

Warm and sunny, windy.
I got up early this morning, just to find out that my friend was having a family problem and wasn't able to come and meet me. Oh dear. I was sad for her and also for me. We may be able to meet tomorrow so let's cross our fingers.
Instead, I stayed in with Van and did laundry. I asked her to drive me to the city later on, and I offered to buy lunch on the way. So today I took my sister and my nephew out for lunch. It was only BP, but it was nice and best of all, Zach didn't get sick. Hurray.
From Southgate, I took a bus up to Kingsway where I was going to meet my friend. I did a bit of shopping on the way. I did have some luck at The Bay. I got 3 neat things. I got a casual shirt, a vest and a more dressy shirt for work or going out. It's really pretty. I also hit up Sears but only found a few things.
I met my friend and we window shopped for a bit and then drove to her house. We met up with her husband and decided to get some dinner. We did take out from a place I'd never heard of before and took it back to her apartment. We ate and then went to the basement and watched 3 episodes of The Big Bang Theory which I'd never heard of before. It was really funny.
They drove me back to Van's. Once I was here I came downstairs, watched some TV and relaxed. It was a good evening!
Tomorrow night, dinner with a friend, tomorrow morning? I'm not sure yet.
Talk to you later! Night.

Hot and sunny. A record-breaking day...it hit 34 degrees today.
I spent the first part of the day in bed. I woke up and didn't feel that well so I said goodbye to the kids, had a quick breakfast and then went back to bed. I didn't sleep though, I watched TV. There's just so much on!
I got up later and had a quiet afternoon in. Van picked up the kids and then we went off to Edmonton. We dropped of Kate at her dance class and then Zach, Van and I went to London Drugs for a bit to do shopping. I got some lipstick, and some more deodorant.
We came back to the house after we picked up Kate, but I stayed there while the others went to Soccer Practice. I had dinner and vegged for a bit.
When the others came back, they ate and then we got started on homework. I read to Zach for a while and then helped Kate with her homework. She'd left it for the last moment again. Sigh. It was difficult too. Finally it was done though.
I came downstairs and I think I'll go to bed soon, although Highlander is on tonight. I'd like to watch it, but I have to be up early tomorrow!
Anyway, I'll update tomorrow if I'm feeling up to it. Talk to you later!

Hot and sunny! So hot that it's hard to believe I'm in Alberta in September!
I got up a little late today so I wasn't able to say goodbye to Katie. I felt bad about that. When Van and Zach came back, we had breakfast. Zach ended up wearing most of his on his face. With the strawberry jam all over his face, he looks like a cute Joker!
Van took me to the dentist and I endured an hour of tooth cleaning. The hygienist asked if I could come back on this trip. Tomorrow Van is mondo busy, Thursday is my day out with friends, so the best time ended up being today. Van picked me up and we came home for lunch.
After lunch it was back to the hygienist for another hour of cleaning. Well, I can't really say I didn't need it. I realized today that the last time I had my teeth done was before Zach was born, and he's four now. Also, I'd really rather get it all done at once than spread it over 3 or 4 appointments in Japan.
We picked up Katie and then came home briefly, before going out to Leduc for groceries. Van shopped for food and I went to the drugstore. I got a few things, but they were out of my favourite deodorant. Darn!
When we came back, Van kind of asked me to make stirfry for dinner. It was fine, but all the veggies and meat that she bought were not what I would usually use! Also, her fry pan was really small and her wok was somewhere out of reach. I ended up doing a lot of cooking in small batches, which is the way it's supposed to be done anyway. Dinner was quite good. Kate liked it, except for the broccoli, and Van seemed to enjoy it too.
After dinner, Van watered flowers outside, and I washed the pots and pans and anything that wasn't going to go in the dishwasher.
I watched Jeopardy for the first time in a year and tried to relax on the couch. After a bit I came downstairs.
I think I'm going to bed early tonight. I don't feel that well. I have a headache, my teeth hurt and I feel like I'm going to get a cold. Oh, and my throat hurts.
If I'm feeling better, I'll go shopping tomorrow, but if I don't, I might just stay here. Van has a busy day, so I don't want to get in her way.
That's it for me. Night!

Cool but sunny today.
Today was good. I got up in time to say bye to the kiddlings. I am so not a morning person, but I like to make the effort for them. I see them so rarely, that I really like to show them that I love them!
I've been fretting a bit that I haven't heard from my husband yet, but I realized that he won't be home yet. His cellphone has been acting up so he wouldn't have been able to read my email yet.
After breakfast, Van drove me to Edmonton. I spent quite a bit of time at Millwoods Town Center. I had lunch and tried to shop up a storm. However, the shops weren't that great. I probably should have gone over to Southgate, but I didn't really want to go there yet. I did get some things though. I got a thimble and a magazine, a new camisole and a cardigan for work. I also got a pair of pajama bottoms for myself. I'm not sure why they aren't selling them as sets anymore.
As my time at the mall was running out, I went outside to wait for Van and the children to pick me up. They came after a while. We went to London Drugs for a few minutes then came back to the house.
I did some reading with Zach before dinner. He has to be read to for 15 minutes every day for his class. We had fun. I read to him and he read to me as well.
After dinner Katie and I played Scrabble for a while, then I got my crochet and worked on it for a while. I did quite a few rows so it was nice and relaxing.
I watched the season opener of House. It was good. I'm only on the first season at home, so it's hard to relate the stories but it was still good. Hugh Laurie is amazing anyway.
I came downstairs after the show. I'll probably go to bed soon. I tried to go early last night too, but I didn't. I ended up snoozing in bed. Still got jetlag.

September 20, 2009 - Sunday
Sunny, windy and cool.
Today was a good and bad day for me. I got up this morning, had a quick breakfast with my husband and then we drove back to the airport. We dropped off the car and I helped F do his baggage check in. He had a cup of coffee and then he went through security. I kept watch until he was safely through and out of sight. I was a little tearful, which surprised me as I'm not usually that emotional about things like this.
I went downstairs to meet Michelle. I had a glass of iced coffee which was terribly sweet. Very yuck. One thing that I really noticed this time in Canada is how difficult it is to find something to drink here. Everything either has sugar or sweetener or carbonation. It's so hard to find anything without. I can't say how much I miss my oolong tea.
I met up with Michelle and we set out. We went to Leduc first for cash and then headed out to the city. We had lunch at The Olive Garden and it was darn good. I haven't been there in at least 10 years. I had a wonderful dish of broccoli, chicken and mild sauce on pasta. Yum.
We went to South Edmonton Common and saw The Informant! with Matt Damon and Scott Bakula. It was a very enjoyable movie for me. It was nice to see a movie that I had to think through. Matt Damon was very good as always and it was interesting to see Scott Bakula again.
We did a few things after the movie. We went to Best Buy and I bought Persuasion, the old version that I love with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root. I am looking forward to watching it. I'm hoping to show it to Katie soon. I'd like her to realize that there is more to life than Twilight! We also went to Costco and got Mick some things.
We drove back to Beaumont and had coffee in Tim Hortons, then she dropped me off at Van's. It was wonderful to see her again. We keep in touch throughout the year, but we rarely get to have facetime anymore.
The rest of the evening passed quietly at Van's. I played with Katie and Zach for a bit and then I had a late dinner. I probably wouldn't have bothered if it hadn't been for my medicine. Lunch was really filling!
I'm now downstairs watching Pirates of the Carribbean : At World's End. It isn't as good as the other movies, but it's okay. Orlando is nice eye candy.
Tomorrow I may go into Edmonton and do a bit of shopping. I do need to get a few new things for myself. I think it'll be a day in the mall by myself. That's kind of nice for a bit.
That's it for me. I'm going to channel surf a bit before bed. I might even get out my much delayed crochet, but I'm not really sure yet. Whatever I do, wish me luck! Night.

September 19, 2009 - Saturday
Arrr matey! To the gangplank with ye, if you dinnae cough up me treasure. Or something like that! Did anyone else talk like a pirate today?
Sunny today, but not very warm. Quite windy.
Today was a quiet day. We all slept in a bit today and then had late breakfasts. I made omelettes for F and me. Van had done all the hard work of putting out fixings, but I cooked 2 for us.
We went to Southgate Mall today to get F some souvenirs for his co-workers. They're getting maple cookies, and I hope they like them. I got some stickers and some decorations for my classroom for Halloween.
We stopped off at Papa Murphy's on the way home to get a couple of pizzas. The kids and I were quite hungry, so after they were cooked all of us devoured some pizza. We had a quiet evening at home, ended up watching Scooby Doo 1 and 2. They're not really my kind of stuff, but they were surprisingly entertaining. It was also quite fun to watch the film with the kidlets.
Hub and I had a late night snack so I could have my medicine. He proceeded to drink quite a bit of beer which didn't impress me. We have to be up early tomorrow to get him and the car back to the airport. I think he's all packed, but I'm not sure! He's great at putzing around for ages. (I am too, but not about packing!)
Anyway, I'm still yawning away and need to get to sleep soon. After I see hub through the gates tomorrow, I'll meet up with my friend and we'll have a ladies day out. Yay. I'm looking forward to it.
I'll talk to you tomorrow night, most likely. Night.

September 18, 2009 - Friday
Hot and sunny. Yes!
This week has just flown by. F has only one more day before he leaves. I'm really sad to think about him having to go home to our apartment alone. I'm not sad enough to change my ticket and go too though!
Today was a no school day, so most of us got to sleep in. Joe had to leave early for Toronto and New York. I asked him to take me to NY with him, but he didn't want me along. Sigh. Hub and I dragged ourselves out of bed around 8:30 or 9:00 and then went upstairs.
We had breakfast and then had to take Zach to get his glasses. He looks so cute in them! We all piled in Van's Jeep and went to the glasses place. After that, she drove us downtown and we had dim sum for lunch. I haven't had real dim sum in years so it was fun. I would have tried more foods, but Van and the kids are a bit fussy, as is my husband. If I was the only person eating them it wasn't much fun. Still, we had a lot of interesting stuff. I liked the fried spring rolls and the ginger beef.
After lunch we went shopping as a group. Katie needed some clothes so we went to a couple of places. I did buy some new undies, and also a few things for my school at Toys 'R' Us. We came back to Van's after a while.
We vegged for a bit and Katie had me playing on the Wii. I had no idea what I was doing. Rock Star was fun and I totally aced "Hungry Like the Wolf". Then again, I tried to explain to Katie that I've been singing the song longer than she's been around! We tried bowling and golf, but I was really bad at both.
Van cooked dinner. She made meatloaf tonight. It was a request from me as hubby has never had it before. I liked it, hope he did too. I did help out a bit with dinner so not completely lazy!
After dinner, F and I went to the drugstore to get me a few things and then as someone was crying for ice cream, went to DQ for an ice cream. It turned into a shake and I had one too. That was a mistake as my gums started to hurt again from the cold. Grr.
We came back to Van's and watched Cars as a family. It was a lot of fun watching it as a family, with kids around. We all had fun, but are now yawning away. I can't help wondering when this darn jetlag will end. Soon I hope.
Sometime during the day, my sweet nephew banged his head against my jaw and I think I have a bump there. Great. Just another good thing for my poor mouth to deal with. It was an accident and he apologized as soon as he realized I was in real pain. He's a sweet little boy.
That's it for me. Tomorrow I'm not sure what we'll be doing. Hubby has to get souvenirs and pack up for the trip home on Sunday.
Gotta go. Night!

September 17, 2009 - Thursday
Hot and sunny with some light rain at night.
Today was an okay day, although it didn't start that way. I didn't feel that good in the morning so I lazed around for a bit. I had a headache, nausea, and just generally was blah. I had a cup of tea and a SoyJoy and felt a bit better.
F drove me to the dentist and I had my teeth problem looked at. My sister's dentist is very nice and actually took time to try to figure out what the problem was. Her opinion is that I either have a cracked tooth, a tooth infection or a gum infection. Since the gum infection is the easiest to fix, she started me on antibiotics. I also have to go back on Tuesday to see how things are going. It was so nice to be able to communicate with the dentist directly. Yay.
F and I had lunch at BP after we got my prescription. It was quite nice. I had a beef dip. I miss those.
We went to Van's to check if my next appointment time would be okay for her (I need a chauffeur) and then we headed into Edmonton. I had Google Mapped the way, so it wasn't too hard. We even stopped in at IKEA for a droolfest. We bought something though, that we didn't have already. A pizza cutter!
We got back on the main road and headed back into Edmonton. We found a good parking spot and then went to Chapters for a bit. We had a drink at Starbucks and then had a gander at books before heading to the restaurant.
Susan and Steve came after a while and we went in. We all had souvlaki....either chicken, beef or lamb. I had the lamb and it was lovely. It was really filling as we got potatoes, rice and some kind of yogurty thing. We gabbed for ages. F made us all laugh when he read the menu for appetizers. He said there was glare on his menu so he missed one of the words. He asked us what "deep fried baby" was! He was looking at Calamari and didn't see the squid part. Oh dear. It was funny. The food was good. I really love Greek food and miss it a lot in Japan.
After another run through Chapters we went our separate ways. F and I drove back to Beaumont. I was navigating, but I messed up and we ended up halfway to Camrose! There are no signs for this little town until you're off the main roads. Still, we made it finally.
At Van's we vegged in front of the TV for a bit. I watched a few of the new shows but really wasn't too entranced. Must be tired.
Anyway, that was my day. It started badly, but ended quite nicely. Got to go!

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 --2nd post.
Had a good day today. We had breakfast at Tim Horton's today, but my teeth hurt so much that I couldn't drink my coffee. After breakfast, we hit the bank (sounds like a robbery doesn't it?) then drove out to the airport again. Why? So F would know the way back. Even though I know it and we're going together. Crazy man.
After the airport we drove to Leduc. Yes, Leduc. We hit the strip mall there and I went to Penningtons. I got 2 pairs of casual pants, a t-shirt, and a shirt for work. Yay. We also visited the dollar store and then had lunch. We came back to Van's and had quiet time for a bit.
We baby sat for Zach a little later. What a handful. 4 year olds have so much energy. I don't know which of us was the most tired when Van came home, F or me!
We ate here tonight. Van barbecued some steaks and I stopped her from overcooking them as much as usual. Whew. After dinner we watched a bit of TV and gave Joe his presents. He got a wooden sake cup and some mints with caffeine and seemed to be pleased with both. The cup especially impressed him.
F and I will be heading off to sleep soon. This jetlag stuff is a killer. It's our 2nd 8th anniversary today and we didn't give each other anything, but somehow it didn't really matter. We had a nice day together and that's what is really important.
So, on that note, I'm going to get some sleep. I'll catch you later. Night!

September 16, 2009
Hi! Not much time to write. There's a game of balloon soccer going on behind my back and it might get ugly if I don't get involved!
We had a great time in Victoria. The weather was amazing, I got a bit of a sunburn. Why didn't I pack my hat again? We had dinner at the Empress Hotel one night in the Bengal Lounge. Curry=yum. Then we had Afternoon Tea there on our anniversary too. It was very nice (and expensive!) We did a lot during our three days. We went to Bouchart Gardens, took a ferry ride in the harbor and walked our feet off. I still have blisters!
Anyway, that's a brief update. We're in Beaumont and are enjoying ourselves. Maybe more later!

September 10, 2009 - Thursday
Rainy, warm and sunny, cold and windy and rainy again.
Despite my misgivings it was an almost okay day. I got up on time but the news wasn't on. Sigh. I showered and then dragged my suitcase out of its resting place and started packing. I never know what to pack. I know I shouldn't pack as much as I do because I hope to buy some new things along the way.
F came back and wanted to go out for breakfast, but I refused. Instead I had some soup and watched a show about being a perfect housekeeper. I will never be one. Sigh. I did little bits and pieces of things throughout the afternoon. I finally sewed up the hole in my purse's lining and did some preventative sewing on it. I turned off the crockpot and washed it. I didn't realize that I had overflowed the soup and it had burned underneath the china crock. Oops.
Finally around 4 I allowed hubby to take me out for a late lunch to Gusto. I had their new dish, steak hamburg with wasabi sauce. It was yummy. I was quite impressed. Course, I love wasabi :-) I was dropped off at the school after our meal.
Work was fine today. I vacuumed, cleaned and generally made the school nice, just to have the first student cancel. Sigh. She's so busy. I got ready for the second class and then spent some time doing bookkeeping. I was going great guns until I realized that my receipts had magically unsorted themselves. Grr. I had to put the books aside for a while.
My 2 students came. They try hard, well one of them does, but they are at quite different maturity levels, which means that one is working hard and the other is goofing off. Still we got through it. I gave them extra homework for my vacation. I'm mean!
After work, and my paperwork, I called F and he came to get me. We went out to Cocos for dinner tonight. It was their double point day, so we thought we'd boost our pointcard! I had a yummy meal of crab spaghetti, while F had hamburger.
We came home after dinner and had a quiet evening at home. Tomorrow we have to finish packing and I'll be doing a lot of printing at my computer. Wish me luck with that please! And, sorry, but I most likely will not update tomorrow night. I just have too much to do and I have to leave too early (for me) on Saturday morning.
Night!
Blogging may be sporadic over the next couple of weeks. Don't fret! I'll be back.

September 9, 2009 - Wednesday
Cool in the morning, then hot and sunny, with rain at night.
I got up this morning, checked out the news which wasn't on. Ended up watching a bit of Star Trek instead.
I had a good morning at home, followed by a nice afternoon at home. I did watch a movie I taped a couple of weeks ago, Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts. It was great but there was one fight scene that was incredibly brutal. I usually don't mind violent fighting scenes, but this was really realistic and I was wincing and covering my eyes a lot during this scene. Very good movie though. Partially in Russian which was sad as the subtitles were only in Japanese.
Around 4 I went to my school, got ready for my class and taught my student at 5:00. She was amazing today. I had her writing and speaking. At the end of the class we had a couple of free moments, so we played Crazy Eights. She picked up the rule card and I asked her if she could read it. She read the first sentence unaided. I was amazed. I gave her some homework and sent her off.
I finished up, set up my classes for tomorrow and was deciding if I should bike home or wait for F, when I realized it was raining outside. Hard. I stayed put!
F didn't pick me up until after 8:00pm as he was still working. Sigh. We came home to change and then we went to New York New York to have dinner. I had chicken, which was quite nice. F had a burger and he liked his too.
F was going to have an early night, but I noticed that American Idol was on TV, so he got up to watch it. Tonight they did Jacksonville and it was quite funny. It felt a bit odd sitting on the couch not doing any crochet.
Anyway, that was most of my day. It was quite good. Tomorrow I have to start packing and getting ready to go for my trip. Saturday morning will be an early one.
Oh, I may be able to blog when I'm away, occasionally but don't miss me too much. I likely won't post on Friday night as I can't stay up as late when I'll have to be up around 6 or so. Sigh.
Later! Night.

Clapochet
Here's the finished product! I rather like how the colours worked out. I don't have a picture of F modeling it yet though.
September 8, 2009 - Tuesday
Cold and windy in the morning, hot and humid in the afternoon.
A strange day weatherwise. I went to bed last night and was sweating. It was hot, yet I woke up this morning because I was too cold. I was shivering. There was a strong wind coming in the window. Yuck.
I got up today, showered very soon after and then started on my soup. I had put the stock making veggies in the crockpot last night, so today I had to turn the stock into soup. I added some chicken and a few vegetables, but I didn't have that much.
I was lucky today because WOWOW was showing two great movies today. I caught the last part of Body Heat, which I hadn't seen since I was almost too young to watch it, and Away From Her. The later is a Canadian movie starring Julie Christie and a terrific Gordon Pinsent. He's one of Canada's best actors, but is mostly known in Canada. Julie Christie had the showy part, that of a woman with Alzheimers, but Gordon Pinsent had to play a reserved man in terrible pain from losing his wife that way. The director was Sarah Polley, who is quite a well known actress both in Canada and the world.
I left for work just after the film ended and got to work. My first class went quite well. We kept going off in tangents about the teaching of English, but it was fun and interesting.
After my student left, I did a bit of prep and then I read the newspapers for the last 3 days. I was finished the third one, and got ready for my next class. She cancelled 2 minutes before class was supposed to start. Sigh. I did more prep and after a while called F to come and get me.
We came home and started making dinner. I put some bought cabbage rolls in my soup, plus a bit of seasoning, then set the table. F made us some chichimi. It was good, but the cabbage rolls weren't quite as cooked as I would have liked and the soup was only okay. I didn't have enough real veggies to add to it. The chichimi was good, but I thought it was too thin.
F did the dishes and at 11 we settled in to watch American Idol again. We missed most of the preliminaries back when they were on, because we didn't really know about the channel they are on. It was fun though. The big news from watching AI was I finished the Clapochet for F! I finally finished crocheting it and then I darned in the loose ends. Done! I'll try and post pictures tomorrow. I want to do it in the daylight, because artificial light doesn't do it justice.
So, basically, that was my day. It was okay. F and I were almost angry with each other when we made dinner, but I think a lot of it has to do with our different styles. And our small kitchen!
Mostly a good day then. Tomorrow I do have a class in the early evening, then we'll see. Hope tomorrow is a good day for me! Night.

September 7, 2009 - Monday
Hot and sunny. Too hot really.
Had an okay day today. I first woke up before 8 and closed the windows. I don't usually, but they were going to spray for bugs and I thought I should. There was baseball on then too, so I went back to sleep. When I got up again later there was golf on. Sigh. Why do I bother?
I had an okay day around the house today. I did some laundry. I printed a couple of certificates for my students then I also registered for the AFWJ convention in January. I'm not sure how I'm going to get there yet, but I'll figure it out later. I just wish it wasn't in January. In Hokkaido. I don't have fond memories of Hokkaido in January! I also popped out to the post office to send in my payment and then to do a conbini run!
F came home and it was nice to see him, except, he had a shower first and then went to bed. I was kind of upset with him. I'd asked yesterday if we could go to Bistro De Pointes tonight for our anniversary dinner. I thought he agreed, but I don't think he even remembered. We ended up going to Trenta for pasta. It was okay, but definitely nothing special. We're going to be travelling for our real anniversaries so I thought it would have been nice to go there tonight.
We bought some groceries at MaxValu. We decided to make dinner at home tomorrow night. I'm going to make my soup, I've been waiting for a while to make it, and F is going to make chichimi...sort of a Korean pancake/okonomiyaki thing. I'm thinking to put some cabbage rolls (just bought tonight) in the soup too. Hmm.
We came home and I washed a couple of other things that I forgot to wash earlier, then started putting the veggie leavings I've been freezing in my slow cooker. I'll cook them down overnight. They're in a cloth so I should have some decent stock in the morning. Crosses fingers.
Hub had asked me to sew a pair of pajamas of his, the waistband came undone, so I was going to settle in to do that, but he was watching some typical crap Japanese thing on the TV. I had no interest in watching it and said so. Next thing is he flounces off to the bedroom to watch it on his cellphone. Honestly. I told him that we should watch a movie or something, and he said that was okay. When he came out of the bedroom he whined something about how he was watching the news when I complained. Right buddy. Sure. Stupid Tarentos running around yelling is the news? Oh, forgot, I'm in Japan. It bloody well could have been! Anyway, I gave him a choice of 3 movies and he picked the one I knew he would, Invasion with Nicole Kidman. It was okay, but not great. In wake of the flu epidemic that's upon us, it was a bit thought provoking, but overall not a must see.
I sew his pajamas for him and then I went back to my poor, almost forgotten clapochet. I got it very close to the end. I don't think it's going to be perfect, surprisingly, this time is much harder than it was with the cheap 100 yen shop wool. Hopefully, I can finish the crocheting tomorrow night during American Idol.
Hub went off to bed after the movie, then I got on my computer. Yay.
Anyhoo, I have to get to bed now. I'll talk to you tomorrow. Night!

Night!
September 6, 2009 - Sunday
Hot and sunny. Gorgeous day.
I slept late today because we went to bed so late last night. Hubby was of course up with the larks. I heard him at 9 am do something with a pump bottle and just knew he was trying to clean our couch. I've been saying for a while that we need to get proper cleaner for our lovely leather couch. He's been wanting to try Mypet, the all purpose Japanese cleaner on it. I was not best pleased to be woken up in case he was spraying our couch with it. He was! Mypet is great for things like tables and doors, but leather? I don't know. Anyway, I yelled at him and told him not to do my side of the couch!
When I got up and we both decided to go out for our brunch, we chose the Washington Hotel first. We went there and they did have lunch but, there were two dishes and two dishes only to choose from. Tuna on rice or beef on rice. I said no thanks to either. I think hubby was a little annoyed at me, but I wasn't in the mood. We ended up over by city hall to a restaurant there. I had pasta with dadacha-mame sauce and F had a Japanese teishoku meal of udon with egg and sushi. Mine was really good.
We ran a couple of errands in the afternoon and then F dropped me off at the International Center while he went to wash the car. I had a snoop through the books and ended up bringing 3 home to join my ever growing pile of "To Be Reads". One is a Ken Follet so I'm sure it'll be good, the other two are non-fiction but look amusing.
We drove out past Sakata next. We went to a little highway stop/road station and walked around a bit. I'm not really sure why he wanted to go there, but it was a nice day and I didn't mind.
We came back to Sakata and I suggested dinner. My first choice was an Indian restaurant, but neither of us knew where it was, so we went to Kappa Sushi. It's another revolving sushi restaurant. We don't have one in Tsuruoka. It's quite fun as they don't just have "sushi", but have desserts and other foods as well. All their plates are 105 yen, which means if a something is better quality you may only get one piece. We ordered a few things and they were delivered by shinkansen. I especially liked a salmon-cream cheese mixture I got. It was yummy. Quite bagel and lox-y on rice.
On the way home I asked if we could stop off at the local book store. It's the only one that sells English books and I wanted to see if they had something for a friend. They did! F also asked if I wanted to go to karaoke tonight. I was a bit surprised but said sure! We hit Jusco for snacks (for HIM) and then continued on to Tsuruoka.
We went to our usual place and had a good time. It wasn't very crowded so we could get in right away. We both sang a lot of stuff, mostly old favourites. Hub did his "Ge-Ge-Ge" song and I did everything that I liked!
When we finished we hit the grocery store up for milk and then came home and relaxed for a while. That was it. We were quite busy today. We had a good day and enjoyed being with each other. I just hope it lasts while we're on holiday!
Got to go. Night!
