Sunday - Rainy and cool, some snow in the mountains
I managed to get to bed a little early last night. I slept quite well, but woke up around 8:20. The reason I woke up before my alarm? F was listening to either YouTube or TikTok on his phone without his earphones on. Grr! I rolled over and covered my ears with my quilt. I woke up properly a few minutes later when my alarm went off.
I got up, went downstairs and then came back up and started to get dressed. F had said that he wanted to leave at 9 am. Since he dressed quicker than I did, I suggested that he go and buy the kerosene that he didn’t buy yesterday AND pick up a couple of bentos for his mother to have while we were away.
While he was away, I finished getting dressed and read my blog from yesterday. When F came back, he gave his mother some food and we left soon after. We went to Gusto and had breakfast. I had the scrambled egg with bacon and sausage, F had sunny-side up eggs with bacon and sausage. We enjoyed our breakfast but probably stayed a bit too long.
We got onto the highway and just before we went through the highway gates, I asked F if he had the ETC switched on. I didn’t see the light. He said he had, and confidently drove into the lane. However, the gate didn’t open. The people on the intercom tried to help him and then F realized he hadn’t put the card into the slot. It took him ages to go through his wallet and find the correct card. We were so fortunate that no one was behind us.
We were able to go on our journey after that! F drove through the mountains. We made our usual stop at Sagae rest centre and got a couple of things from the bakery there. I got a curry-pan and a chocolate croissant. F had a Mt. Gassan cake that was filled with cream and matcha. I didn’t have that as I don’t like matcha.
In Yamagata City, we went to the Aeon Mall. I wanted to go to Kaldi to pick up my favourite Rooibos. I bought the last three boxes of it. I hope they aren’t going to stop selling it. I did a little looking into other shops. At 3Coins, F and I bought ourselves some wireless headphones. They weren’t expensive, but so far, work quite well.
I looked for a record/cd shop, but there isn’t one in the mall. Darn! I guess they are going the way of the dodo or so. I know that F was in a bit of pain with his knees so when I saw massage chairs in the mall, I suggested that he have a quick massage. I used the time he was in the chair to window shop and use the washroom!
We decided that we’d have a snack at the mall, and a drink too. The coffee kiosk was closed today so we went to Saizeriya. We had some appetizers and drink bar. That was rather nice.
We got on the road again soon after and went to Costco. It took a little while to find a parking space, but then we went inside. F came with me for a few minutes so that he could look and buy a couple of things, but after that, he went to the food court and grabbed himself a table.
I went shopping. I got quite a lot of stuff and didn’t buy much more! I had hoped to get some easy “meal” type things, but I wasn’t able to do that. I didn’t get bagels today either, since I have no room in the freezer for them! I got some potatoes, some avocados, some cheese, some sausages, some cereal and a few other things.
I went through the checkout and met up with F. We took the groceries out to the car and packed them up. It’s a much less stress way to do it for me. When we used to bag our groceries at the checkout, F didn’t help at all, and the staff did help, but they’d put things together that I wouldn’t. F would end up yelling at me and I’d be upset. It’s much better to pack our stuff at the car and neither of us be stressed.
We went back into the store to get a snack and use the washrooms! We both had hotdogs which came with the drink bar, and ice creams. I hadn’t been planning to have the hotdog, but I wanted to get something that wasn’t completely filling so that we could have dinner if we wanted afterwards. We left the store around 7 pm I think.
I wasn’t thinking about eating in Yamagata since we had the hotdogs and ice cream, but somehow F decided that we should eat there! We went to a Yakiniku restaurant where we got in right away. F wanted to order a huge amount of food, their assortment platters were for 4-5 people. If I was hungry I might try it, but I wasn’t! I pointed out the one that was for 2 people, so we got that with a few vegetables to grill and F got himself an extra plate of meat. It was very nice, the meat cooked quickly and we were able to finish everything. I am so glad that we didn’t order the huge plates though!
We headed back onto the highway and listened to some tunes. I enjoyed the music until I snoozed, and we made really good time on the way back.
I suggested going to MaxValu since they are open 24 hours and we picked up a few things for meals for the next few days. I know, we went to Costco, but we needed things like bread and onigiri for K and F, so we couldn’t get that at Costco. F stayed in the car while I shopped.
We got back to the house around 10:30 I think and unloaded the car. Somehow F lost his car key, but I found it a little later by stepping on it! I unpacked the groceries and put what I could away. I have to be careful not to buy too much as we have no place to put a lot of things.
I came upstairs and joined F. We both tried out our new headphones. I charged mine first, F used his plugged in, which he said worked. They were fine. They might not have the greatest sound, but for listening to my computer they worked just fine.
So, that’s it for me. F is back at work in the morning and I’m back to my boring, stay at the house life. I’ll be making dinner tomorrow night, if I can decide what to cook!
Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
