March 28, 2008 - Friday

Cloudy, with afternoon rain.

Today was a pretty good day. I got up this morning on time and watched the news. I even stayed awake today! I did my usual morning stuff and thought about the day. There were great thumpings and bumpings coming from upstairs which could only mean one thing. They were moving out. Usually the upstairs people were very quiet. I didn't know them so I can't say that I'm deeply saddened or anything!

I had an earlyish lunch and then left for my school around 3:15. I wanted to get there early today to do my Saturday prep. I got to the school quite quickly. It was raining and I didn't stop for much. When I got to the school I changed out of my wet clothes and hung them up in the bathroom. Since I had to run the dryer fan for them anyway, I decided to do a load of towels for the school. I had just bought some handtowels a couple of weeks ago, but hadn't washed them yet.

I did some light dusting and sweeping, and then I got to work. I got most things set up, except I will have to use the cards in one class and then swap them out for another.

My student showed up on time and was wearing glasses! This was a new thing. He was also in an incredibly happy mood. I honestly can say that I have never seen him so cheerful before. He worked hard in class and I was really happy to discover that he does seem to be reading. He needed a little help to sound out some words, but he understood what I had written down for him. Hurray. After his class, he left and I set up tomorrow's first class. I had to take some of the cards from the lesson I'd just taught for the first class.

I'll be busy at the school tomorrow. If everyone shows up, I'll have four classes with not much time between them all. Sigh.

When I did as much prep as I could stand, I sent Fumihiko a text to see what he was up to. After 20 minutes I sent another one. I didn't get any answer so decided that he must still be working so I came home. It had stopped raining which made the ride home a little cold, but quite pleasant.

I got home and wondered where my husband was. It wasn't until 9:30 that I got a call from him. He'd just finished work. Poor thing.

When he got home we got ready and had dinner. I had reheated my soup, and after we ate that, Fumihiko fried the chicken cutlets that we bought last night. We had those with a salad, and a bento that he'd gotten at work today. It was very nice. Afterwards, Fumihiko did the dishes, and I strained the oil. I think I got the fun part.

That was basically it for the day. It was mostly good.

Oh, I forgot to mention in yesterday's entry that March 27 was the anniversary of the day I first came to Japan. Eleven long years ago I landed over here, and didn't know what I was letting myself in for. Expect an entry dedicated to that topic later!

Night!

Four classes starts to reach the point where I get seriously tired from the day's work. I prefer no more than three, but it's certainly better financially to have four! In fact, I think that I am pretty close to making as much as I used to make working full-time with four hours of private teaching. You must at least be happy with the fact that you're making more money!

If the classes go well, I don't get too tired, but if they go badly then I'm exhausted!

Usually the Saturday classes work out that at least one class doesn't come or doesn't book, but this week was an exception and everyone booked & showed up!

I'm glad that I am getting more classes! Only thing is of course that it's Saturday and hubby's day off, so I'd like to spend more time with him.
