Cold, but gorgeous and sunny. (And cold is relative...for Canada, not cold, but for Tsuruoka....a bit.)
I had a weird day today. I woke up at 7:00 because the apartment was shaking. I thought, "Earthquake?!" and turned on the TV and also checked an earthquake site I know. Nothing. Maybe it was a big truck going by? I went back to sleep. A little after 9, I was still half asleep, but my alarms were going off, so I was getting towards wakefulness. All of a sudden I hear, "Hello!" I screamed. It was my husband, putting his pyjamas back on. HUH? Wasn't someone supposed to work today? Turns out, he took the day off. Nice. My day off, and he decides to barge in on it.
I got up and watched the news, drank coffee, but wasn't too happy about the whole thing. I tried to be nice, but it's really hard when I had a bunch of plans for my day off to give them all up.
After a while I made the bed and got dressed. Fumihiko wanted to drive to Sakata and have lunch and then "find a place". He has to drive someone there tomorrow and he wanted to find it today. Okay. So, before we left I decided to write a couple of greeting cards for friends that have just had babies. Since one couple are friends of both of us, I wrote a message on the card first. Now, bear in mind that this was a card for a first baby, a beautiful, expensive card that I had bought. I wrote a nice happy message on the back and handed it over to Fumihiko to write a message in Japanese for the woman. Instead of writing something nice about the baby, he asked the woman if she still remembered Japanese! I was just not impressed. Hopefully our friend won't mind as much as I do.
We went to the post office first to mail off the cards. I went in by myself and got the "Boss". He didn't really know what he was doing, but did speak to me in English. It was quite funny. I answered him in Japanese!
Then, we drove to Sakata. We were torn between going to the Indian restaurant or a nice French one. Fumihiko decided to go to the French one, but we couldn't find it for ages. We finally did, but the parking lot was full. He put the information into the GPS and then we went back to the Indian restaurant. We had a nice lunch there. I had keema curry with naan, Fumihiko had mutton curry with rice. After lunch we went driving out in the country looking for the place hubby has to go, finally finding it.
After all that, we just drove back home. I was hot and full from lunch and it was so bright out that I could hardly keep my eyes open, so I didn't. I napped quite a bit on the way. I half expected him to stop at the mall on the way, but he didn't. Sigh.
We came home and basically just vegged out for the next few hours. I watched Medium and then Cold Case, he watched weird Japanese stuff after that. Around 8 pm, we went out again for dinner. This time we went to an izakaya and had a mixture of dishes. It was pretty nice.
We came home again and watched a horror movie on WOWOW. I wasn't too happy about that. I don't like horror movies. I'm hoping to go to bed soon as I'm tired.
I think why I was so disappointed about having Fumihiko off work today is that I had a few plans of my own. I wanted to get my hair cut today, I had some lesson planning that I brought home to do, and I wanted to do laundry. Well, that I can do tomorrow maybe, but, still. Also, next Thursday is my birthday and it would have been SOOOO much nicer if Fumihiko had taken off the day before it to spend with me. We could have made some plans, gone to our favourite restaurant, and really done something.
Anyway, I did have a nice day, even though it wasn't the day that I wanted. Got to go! Night.

Isn't there a line from a song...
"life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans..."!
Enjoy.
If he has a day off, does it mean you have to spend it with him? Does he get angry if you don't?
