May 8, 2009 - Friday

Sunny and hot.

Today was a good day. I managed to drag myself out of bed finally. Why oh why did WOWOW have to have a Coen Brothers film fest on late late at night last night? Not fair.

I only had a few hours on my computer this morning so I did my usual stuff and then made my brunch. I left around 1 for my school.

I had left everything ready to go and so I didn't have too much to do when I got there. I changed and got the hot water ready, the usual. My student and I had a good class and finished up a lesson. Yay. She asked if I could teach her next week, but the day she asked for is the day that my friends from England will visit, so I had to say no. Sigh.

After my student left, I got busy. I started to defrost my freezer. The little freezer gets quite iced up over time, and since I had a long long gap between my lessons I decided to do it today. Yay me. It really didn't take that long. I wrapped up the few things that I didn't want to thaw with a bag of ice I'd thoughtfully made up, wrapped that up with newspaper, and then put it in my bathtub. I thought that might be the second coolest place in my school! A couple of hours later there was a satisfying "crash" as the ice fell off the back wall. Yay. It really didn't take very long at all. Much different than the one I did at my old job before I finished there.

I started up the fridge again. I threw out a bunch of half finished drinks and put the cold things back in the freezer. They were still cold. Yay.

I went out to a convenience store for a sandwich, then came back to the school and ate.

My last class of the day went quite well. The student was having a mostly good day. At the end of class when his mother came to pick him up, he asked me if I went to Canada for Golden Week. I told him that I hadn't. Then he asked me if my mother and father were okay. Of course, he doesn't know that I don't have parents any more, so I said my sister was okay. I did think it was a nice thing that he asked about my family. He was actually the first of my students to ask after them since Golden Week was over. I'm taking this as a good sign.

I called Fumihiko quite early tonight as there wasn't much to do after work. He picked me up and I asked him to leave my bike. I have a few hours free tomorrow so I might go out for a sandwich or a coffee. We hit the drugstore for a few necessaries and then came home. I checked email first, and then the internet for cooking tips.

I cooked dinner tonight, the first time in ages. I did cold asparagus with dill mayonnaise, "salad in a bag" and coro-coro steak with a choice of dipping sauces. It was pretty nice. Fumihiko made us coffee.

After a while of watching his TV...some maudlin thing about a girl with an aging disease, I made him hand over a remote, and I watched Re:Genesis. It was a humdinger today. Can't wait for next week!

And that's about it. I've had a quiet day, but did a lot. More to do tomorrow though. Night.
