Tuesday - Hot and sunny, humid

An okay day. I woke up with my alarms this morning, but decided to snooze a little longer. I turned on the fan so that I was getting some nice air movement and napped a little bit more.

I had a mostly quiet afternoon in the apartment. It wasn’t completely quiet due to the cicadas outside. They were making an awful racket. They were louder than my TV and I had my TV up quite high.

I had a good lunch of leftovers. Yum. I had some chicken, pasta salad, and a couple of English muffins with sliced cucumbers on them. Yum.

I went over to my school and it was hot in there. It was 35 degrees and I had to cool it down. I worked on that and got the school ready for my class. My student called at her time and said that she couldn’t come for the whole thing, but would like to come by and get a new book. It was fine with me, since it was all her time anyway.

After she left I gave the school a thorough cleaning. I vacuumed the place, even doing the air conditioner screens. I moved furniture and generally made the place look nice.

When I finished I was dripping with sweat again. I didn’t just clean the areas with the air conditioner. I set up for my visitor on Thursday and then called F to come and get me.

He did, and for a change I didn’t go out early, so he had to come and ring the doorbell. He always does this dumb thing. He rings the doorbell and immediately tries to come in. I don’t like that. I always, ALWAYS lock the door when I’m alone in the school, why wouldn’t I? I’d just changed my clothes a few minutes earlier. I told him via the intercom that I was coming and let him in.

We had dinner in Hana tonight and it was mostly good. My fish was really nice, but they do this thing with rice that I don’t like. They give men a larger bowl than women. Now, I don’t particularly like rice, but I can eat a lot of men under the table…why can’t I get a big bowl too? In fact, they’d put “his” bowl of rice on my tray of food and had to swap it at the table. Grrr.

During dinner we talked about going to the fireworks tomorrow night. I think we’re going to try. F had assumed that I didn’t want to go this year since I didn’t want to go last year. Not true. I’m sure I’ll be horribly disappointed again this year if we go, but I did want to go. I just don’t want to have to go hours early and stake out a site to sit. I had hoped he’d buy the tickets that would get us a bench or a chair somewhere, but he hadn’t.

We did a super fast run through of the grocery store as I wanted to get home to watch my show. We just made it. They were recapping the show when we got in the house. I watched Pillars of the Earth, F did some work. When it was finished I tried to watch Undercover Bosses on the other channel, but couldn’t get it to switch into English. Argh. We very nearly had a fight about that. I’m a techno person, but I can’t read the bloody kanji, F can, but doesn’t understand technology, so I get frustrated. Very frustrated.

Anyway, things mostly boiled over, but he stayed up way too late tonight. I want him to go to bed early so I can have some quiet time.

So, tomorrow night I may go to the fireworks, or not. It depends if F can get home from work at a decent time and if we both feel up to it. Wish us luck? Night!

One more of those things about "service" in Japan that people don't seem to recognize as not being all that it should be (besides serving everyone at the table at different times rather than at the same time and often having zero flexibility in the way dishes are prepared) is that they don't remember who ordered what and serve the plates to the wrong people.

Service has its good points here, but there are definitely some annoying ones as well.

Yup, true enough. I'm not a huge fan of the restaurant for that reason. But F asked if we could go there for a change and since he almost never chooses the place to go, thought I'd let him have his way!

Thanks for visiting!
