Saturday - Rainy and cool
Today was an interesting day. It was F’s birthday but it didn’t get off to a great start. Last night, F realized that he didn’t have a black tie. He did have one before, he lost it! We thought about where he might be able to get one and before I went to sleep, I started Google Mapping Daiso stores to see if they would be open on time for F to get one there. (No)
Luckily, he got up and went out early this morning and found one at a 7-11. It cost him ¥2000 yen or so, but he got one. He picked up even more envelopes, which was kind of funny to me.
I woke up around 9 and went downstairs. I took the bag with the onigiri in it for F and K’s breakfast and then I went back to bed for a bit. I stayed in bed until K and F left, then got up. I took care of a personal chore that I’ve neglected in ages and then went upstairs to wait. I had thought about going downtown for lunch, but I missed my bus time, so decided to wait. They came back around noon.
As usual they brought these big trays of food from his uncle’s family for going to the event. They wanted me to have lunch from them, but the idea just turned me off. The food is usually very nice, but I don’t like sharing food, especially with K. I told F I wasn’t going to eat any and I had a cup of tea in our room. Then I decided I’d go and see what was on offer. I went downstairs and they were munching away. F told me to grab a plate and take some food from the box on the table. Well, I opened it and there was NOTHING I wanted to eat. I put my plate away and went upstairs. I had a cup of instant pasta and then decided I’d take myself out for lunch.
I went downstairs in my coat with my bag and F saw me. I told him I was leaving and he said he’d come with me. I didn’t really want him to come. I opened the door and as I was locking it from the outside he opened the door and said that he’d go out with me. I waited until he was ready.
I felt really bad that it was his birthday and I was acting like a brat. I just don’t like cold Japanese food. We went out to the car and F asked where to go. I suggested going to Cocos since they have free desserts during your birthday month and I could get something I liked. F was okay with that.
We went into the restaurant and were seated right away. We ordered his birthday dessert, I ordered a salad and a baked potato, F got himself some roasted chicken. I added on a special dessert for today’s holiday and we both had drink bar. We had a nice meal. F’s birthday cake and ice cream was really nice looking. It’s funny, this family restaurant gives a free dessert, another one in time “gives” you a reduced price on an ice cream sundae!
He got chocolate cake, ice cream, frozen fruit and a macaron. Free! |
I paid for lunch because I was sorry about earlier and it was his birthday!
We decided we’d go to the Kamo Aquarium after lunch, so drove out there. We didn’t get to park very close to the building, but at least it wasn’t in the back 40. We spent around an hour or so looking at the jellyfish and the other creatures. It was rather nice. As it was late in the day, there weren’t that many people around so we could take a bit of time and get decent photos.
We left the aquarium and decided that we’d go to the house first. F had to prepare dinner for his mother. It was more food from today’s boxes. That was fine with me.
We decided we’d go out to Kushibiki and see if we could get into the Chinese style restaurant there. It was still open for a change so went in and could even get a table. We both had mapo-dofu things, F had mapo-dofu ramen and I had mapo-dofu yakisoba. It was good, nice and spicy.
We drove back to Tsuruoka and F bought gas for the car. Then, we had some time, so we went to S-Mall and bought masks in the drugstore. I’d managed to lose mine between the house and the car. It turns out it was in my purse, but we won’t mention that now!
We also hit up Daiso and I picked up some snacks and a couple of thick coat hangers for drying laundry. We left the mall and drove over to Machi-kinema and went to see The Iron Claw. It was really good. It wasn’t a “feel-good” film, but the acting was great and the story was quite sad. It was loosely based on a true story. We came back to the house after the movie and relaxed.
I watched FBI and then turned off the TV. F went to bed ages ago and is sleeping now. I hope he’s had a good day. I think he liked the movie, but not as much as I did! I was impressed by Zac Efron in this one.
And that was my day. It turned out rather well. Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
