January 1, 2009 - New Year's Day

A good day. Today Fumihiko and I slept in very late! We didn't go to bed until the wee hours, so it wasn't entirely unexpected. We got up and checked out our nengajo. I got quite a lot, Fumihiko not so many. I think it's because some of his go over to his house, and he didn't/couldn't send any out last year.

Fumihiko went over to his house to visit with his mother. I did a few puttery around the house things, and waited for him to come back. We had coffee and then, Fumihiko made us lunch. We had cold soba with both hot and cold sauces. Very nice. We watched a bit of TV today, No Reservations and then The Prestige. Just nice and relaxing.

After a bit, we went over to my school to check for nengajo there. There were some, so I grabbed them. Then, we had to think about dinner. Neither of us could really think of a place that would be open, so I suggested the hotel. We went there, thinking there'd be some kind of buffet. The restaurant in the hotel was open, but they now are on a menu system. Hurray for that! We had the restaurant's special course. It was very nice. We had terrine, then cream of celery soup, followed by very tender steak. The meal was wrapped up with coffee and dessert. It was all excellent.

We wandered the mall after dinner, but only for a little. I bought a deck of cards at the hundred yen shop, and then we came home.

At home, we had coffee and relaxed. There wasn't much on TV, so we ended up playing cards. Mostly we played 21 and some kind of poker. We didn't really know what we were doing, but it was fun. Fumihiko suggested playing for coins, so he got out his stash of 500 yen coins and we played using them as chips. Surprisingly, I won! I did give him back his money at the end. It was cool. We rarely play games together because of the language thing. I like things like Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit, games that aren't really fair for a non-native speaker of English. He likes games like Othello or logic games which I suck at!

We had a midnight snack of some pizza and watched the end of a Harry Potter movie. It was just a really nice day that we spent together.

Tomorrow, we're going off to Sendai for a night. We don't really have a lot of plans while we're there, just want to have some fun. Hopefully we'll be able to do that. I won't be updating as I'm not going to take my computer along. If there's anything truly exciting I'll mob-blog it from my phone. Night night.

We have the same problem with board games- I love Trivial Pursuit and trivia games but I suck at all my husband's faves. Now we have a Wii and are fighting over games on that!

Do you really like the wii? I've heard a lot of things about it, but haven't gotten one. We had a Playstation 2 and it hasn't been taken out of the box since we moved 4?5? years ago!

I hate that I can't get games in English. I'd only ever found 1 game that was bilingual, and I played that one until I finished it! It was fun.

How is the wii for that?

Thanks for visiting!
