April 22, 2009 - Wednesday

Rainy and cloudy.

I had an odd sort of day today, but it wasn't bad at all. I got up this morning and didn't check the TV right away for the news, only to discover that it was on and I'd missed all of it but the last 3 minutes. Sigh.

I hemmed and hawed all day, but finally decided I'd go out and get my haircut. I left the apartment, discovered that it was drizzling lightly, so went back in to get my rain coat, then left. At the entrance to our apartment road, I saw that they were doing construction, so I got off my bike and walked through the pedestrian area. There were some high school boys coming up behind me that decided not to do that, they just kept riding, despite the fact that there were lots of little kids coming home from the elementary school just down the road.

After I passed the construction, I got back on my bike and was bicycling away. I just passed the elementary school when I heard a "POP" and then a loud hiss. I'd just blown a tire. Of course, I stopped and got off my bike. The tire was already soft and the air was coming out quickly. Tomorrow I have an early class, so I have to have a bicycle. There was nothing left to be done, but walk back to the other road and take my bike to the shop. I did think about letting Fumihiko fix it, but then I thought that we don't have all the tools at home.

I got to the bike shop (actually the place where Fumihiko bought the bike, but I've been going there for 12 years!). I told the owner that I had a "punk" in the back wheel, he brought my bike into the shop, offered me a chair and got to work. I had a novel with me so I read a bit, but I found watching him work to be more interesting. He had the tube out in no time and found the hole fairly quickly. He also found the cause of the hole. There was a piece of metal about an inch long in the tire. It wasn't a nail, it looked like a bike spoke, or a bit off an umbrella or something. Sigh. It took him about 15 minutes to fix the tire. I paid for his work, thanked him profusely and set off on my way.

I went to my hairdresser. I was much later than I've ever just shown up before so I wasn't sure if she'd be able to cut my hair today or not. When I went in her shop, she was just going to start working on her mother's hair. Oops. I said I could either come back or wait, I wasn't too fussed at this point. But, they had a little whispered discussion and decided that it was okay to take me now. Yay. So, I got my hair cut. I don't want to wax too lyrical about it, but I like it a lot and it looks nice.

I headed over to S-mall after my cut, had an iced latte at the coffee shop, and then got a call from Fumihiko. He'd just finished work and would come home soon. He didn't even ask if I was at home. I did tell him where I was, but he wanted to go home and change first. That was fine by me. I did a little shopping. I spent some time and money in the hundred yen shop, and was just going to visit the bakery when I saw him enter the mall. He joined me and I bought some bread for tomorrow.

Rather than us going and having another coffee together, we decided to just have dinner. He asked if I wanted to go to my favourite place. I did, but it's a little expensive. Then he suggested another French restaurant in Tsuruoka. We decided to go there. We got thoroughly lost on the way there and then when we finally did find it, it was closed! Okay, Plan B. A Korean restaurant that we went to a couple of months ago. We got there and their parking space was full! Oh no. Finally I just suggested going to Cafe Framboise. I had suggested it earlier but wasn't heard. We went there and it was nice. I had chicken (not the dish I ordered, but it was my second choice, so I wasn't too put out!) and Fumihiko had Japanese food.

We came home via the grocery store and had a quiet evening in. We watched Desperate Housewives at 11. It's quite fun. The plots are thickening.

Well, that's it for me. I have 3 classes tomorrow, with a huge gap between the first and second one, so I'm not sure what I'll do with myself. Oh well, it'll be fun to find out, won't it? Talk to you tomorrow night. Bye!
