Postcrossing - Incoming

To March 26, 2012

I had a windfall of cards recently. I got one on Saturday, and FOUR today! Wow. I am a happy postcrosser!

My first card comes from Norway.  Coincidentally I discovered after I registered the card that the sender lives near the city that I lived in Norway.  I used to live in Stavanger when I was a child, so it was neat!

Karl writes that he believes my students will be interested in Love, so they will be interested in his card.  He congratulated me on my 10 years of marriage and said that he has "more than 40 years in chains!" That's wonderful I think!  He writes that his favourite movies are The Birds, Taxi-Driver and Die-Hard.  I haven't see The Birds yet, but am not a huge fan of Taxi-Driver. However, Die-Hard is my favourite action movie, probably ever.  Another thing in common.

With the rainy season coming up, and my love of singing, I'm sure to be doing this soon.  I love this film and especially this scene where Gene Kelly dances, and of course, sings in the rain.
Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain
Iris in Taipei, Taiwan sent it to me because she knew I liked movies.  She has been to Tokyo and also Mt. Fuji.  I've only ever seen Fuji from aeroplanes! Her favourite movie is Message in a Bottle.  I've seen most of it, but missed the beginning.

This card comes from the Netherlands.  Eefje sent it to me and said that she hopes to visit my country one day.  I don't know much about the card, but there is a cool antique looking sticker on the back.  She also used a postcrossing stamp which is nice to get.

Heli sent this card from Finland.  She thinks the picture is from an old movie but isn't sure.  Sadly, neither am I, but if anyone has any idea about the actors or the movie, please let me know.  She doesn't watch old movies.  ACK!  Old movies are amazing....An excellent black and white card, nonetheless!

Does anyone know this film or the actors?

This card comes from Slovakia. It was sent by Robert who lives near mountains with his family which he notes, includes 3 dogs.  He loves mountains and hiking. He writes that The Pianist is one of his favourite movies.  I still haven't seen it, although I am a huge fan of Adrien Brody.  (Since I saw him in Predators!)  Robert wishes me a beautiful spring.

I was curious about the card because the name on it is Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales.  I did a little checking and I don't think there is a movie with that title.  The card came from a set that Disney sells, so perhaps they plan to make one in the future or it may be a DTV release.  Any info appreciated.

Well, there you have it.  5 fabulous cards.  I like going to my mailbox these days!  How about you?  Try Postcrossing and you'll have more than just bills soon!

Someday soon, I hope to do another Postcrossing - Outgoing again. It's been a long time.

I love the Pirates card. I did some searching and it seems to be the illustration series/name of a series of models and toys. I don't think it refers to any particular movie, but is perhaps a way of tying indirectly to the franchise. I'd guess it has to do with how royalties are handled.

That's mere speculation, however. ;-)

Thanks Orchid! I didn't search too carefully, but it makes sense. It is a very interesting card, isn't it?!

Thanks for looking and commenting :-)
