Monday - Cloudy and a bit muggy
I woke up early and then fell back asleep. When my alarms went off, F had already left for work. I got up, watched the news and then ER. When it was breakfast time, I delayed by watching some cooking videos, don’t know why!
I had a very quiet morning and afternoon today. I didn’t watch a lot of TV, I didn’t see K at all during the day and I just didn’t get motivated to do anything. Sigh.
Around 4 pm, F phoned to say he’d be late, but not as late as he had thought. Then he said he’d phone again later!
Around 5:45 I went downstairs to get started on dinner. I went to the hallway and carried the heavy box with pans in it to the kitchen. It mysteriously appeared a few days ago…opened. Hmm. I unpacked a couple of pans that I often used at the apartment, my lovely big red one, and a slightly smaller everyday pan. I washed and dried them, and found a corner for the smaller one. In the box was a knife that F really liked and had missed since we were over here. I took it out and washed it too. I decided to use it for preparing dinner too.
I cut up some of the veggies, and when I was cutting onions, the knife slipped and I ended up cutting my finger. Yow! It started to bleed and of course, I had no bandages downstairs. I ran upstairs to find the brand new bandages that I had just bought last week. I pulled the string for the light and the doohickey on the end fell off in my hand, as my phone began to ring. Ack! F was calling to tell me that he was almost, sort-of on his way. I wasn’t too coherent as I told him what happened and said that I couldn’t really talk.
Bandaged up, I went back to the kitchen. I couldn’t really use my left hand as the cut was still bleeding and I didn’t want to get anything in the food. Anyway, it all worked out.
Tonight I made a big pot of curried pork stew. It was from a roux we got in the grocery store. It was very easy to make, and easier since I wrote down the instructions in English last night! F called me one more time when I was stirring the stew and had timers going…it was a bad time!
He arrived back to the house when I was nearly finished. He changed and cooked the rice for us. We served the stew soon afterwards and it got good reviews. Yay for that. I asked F if he’d wash the dishes for me as my finger was still bleeding and I didn’t want to put it in the water. He did.
He’d asked if I would go to the onsen with him tonight and I said I would. Then he told me that his mother wanted to take a bath in the house. I asked him if he wanted to invite her to the onsen, and he did. So, a little after dinner, we all bundled into the car and drove out to the onsen. F and K went off to the baths, I went to the chairs after buying myself a drink. I did a little knitting and a little listening to a podcast about movies. Yay. When F and K appeared again I was almost a little sad.
We drove back to Tsuruoka and on the way, F asked if I really wanted to go out afterwards. I told him it wasn’t necessary. I know he has an early start tomorrow and had one today too. He decided to just come back to the house and that’s what we did.
I took a shower here for good measure tonight and watched a bit of telly.
I’m not sure what I’ll do tomorrow, but I just realized/found out that Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday so I might see if I can rustle up some pancakes. I’m not sure if I can though! Come back later and find out. Until tomorrow….
