Sunday - Cloudy and rainy but warm
Today was a nice day. I didn’t really expect too much from it, but I overall enjoyed it, so that was good.
We went to bed quite late last night too, but not as bad as on Friday night. F was up before me as usual, but I got up at 11 and got dressed. He made something for his mother’s brunch and then we went out for lunch. We were going to try a new place, but it didn’t have parking and looked crowded so we kept going. I suggested a new place on the main street, so we tried it out. They served Chinese style ramen and also sauced katsu on rice so F had the ramen and I had the katsu done. Mine was huge. It was okay, a bit greasy, and actually too big for my lunch, but I ate it anyway.
After lunch, we headed out of town. F wanted to check where a couple of places were for his future position at work. Yes, he’s getting transferred again, within the same building but a different department. We drove off into some very country areas. It was nice driving though and the views were good so I didn’t mind. I didn’t even fall asleep as usual so that was good. He was looking for a couple of dams, one of them was quite big, the other seemed a lot smaller.
We drove back through Sakata and stopped at Starbucks for a quick couple of frappuccino’s and then came back to Tsuruoka. We decided that we’d take K out tonight for dinner. She hasn’t been anywhere with us in ages.
F and I relaxed for a while, then around 7 pm we went out with K. The place we planned to go to was really busy, so decided not to risk it. The next place we thought of was closed already, then we ended up at Nagomi, the soba and udon place I like. We hadn’t been there in ages and it was empty so a good choice for us. K and F both had tempura soba and I had my favourite duck udon. They flavour the broth with a little bit of yuzu which just cuts the duck’s slightly fatty taste. Yum.
We had to keep making K put her mask on at the restaurant. She put it on to go in, but then as soon as she sat down, she took it off. We made her put it back on. She wanted to drink, so we showed her that it was okay to take a drink, but to please put the mask back on afterwards. I’m not sure if she really understands the whole mask thing. I think she’s used her mask about 10 times already! It’s a disposable one, not a fabric one.
We brought her back to the house and then F and I went and did a little shopping. I bought some cheese at Yamaya since I won’t be going to Costco for a while. (Yamagata is having a surge in Covid cases, sad to say.) We got a few snacks there too.
We went to the grocery store and I got ingredients to make a crustless quiche for dinner tomorrow. I think it’ll have bacon, mushrooms and a bit of spinach in it. And cheese. Must have cheese!
We came back to the house and I took a shower. It was going well and I was nearly ready to get out when the hot water stopped. It got cold very fast! I dried off, got my breakfast ready for tomorrow and then went upstairs and asked F if the water heater had run out of fuel. He didn’t think it had but said he’d check it and take a shower too.
He came up a little later and apologized to me because the water heater had run out of kerosene! He put some in and we should have hot water again. Woot. He told me I could take another shower if I wanted, but I’m fine really!
So that’s about it for today. Tomorrow I’m back at work. It’s my last week of work, I have two more classes and then I’m done, at least for now. I’ve enjoyed it for the most part. When I’m not doing it, I forget just how much I enjoy teaching!
Well, that’s it for me for tonight. Come back later if you like and hear all about my Monday. Until tomorrow….
