Sunday - Hot and Sunny, with rain

I went to bed quite late last night, so when my alarm went off this morning before 9 am I really didn’t want to get up. I was still a bit angry with F so I asked him finally if he wanted to go to Yamagata today. He said he did, so I got up!

I dressed and I also turned on the AC in the room. It was so hot and it was early, early. I got myself prepared to go, F went out and bought some bentos for K and I guess he had a snack with her downstairs. We were supposed to leave at 10 am, but of course didn’t. We ended up leaving the house closer to 11 am.

We did try and go somewhere for breakfast, but it looked really busy and the parking lot was full. I suggested going to a convenience store instead and I’d get some onigiri and a drink. He got a snack too and a drink.  We headed out on the highway from there and made good time to Yamagata. I think I dozed a bit on the way there, but I was awake for most of the trip I think.

In Yamagata city, we stopped in at a Big & Tall shop to get F a couple of t-shirts. He managed to find a couple of good ones for himself. Actually, 3 of them.

We had lunch at Yamanakaya, the yakiniku place and enjoyed it. We did have to wait for quite a while before we were seated. I had the bibinba again, F had reimen and rice with his.

Next up, we stopped at the mall and I went shopping for something summery for myself. I found a couple of things, a pair of shorts for the house and a nice blouse. We went to Kaldi afterwards and I picked up my usual rooibos tea and some Malden Salt this time. I’ve dreams of being Nigella or something! On the way out of the mall, we stopped at McDonalds for a cold drink to take out. My bottle of rooibos from Tsuruoka was now very hot!

At Costco we found a parking space that was very far from the entrance, but we did find one. It was busy when we arrived. We spent a few minutes looking around, at least F did. He was pushing the cart but was somehow following me even though I didn’t know what he wanted to look at. I find that terribly frustrating. Finally he went to sit down. More on this later.

I roamed the store and looked around. I bought quite a few of the usual things, but in some areas I just couldn’t find the things I wanted. I wanted to get some beets, but they didn’t have them this time. Still, last time I bought them, it looked like they’d leaked a little inside the package, so maybe they are looking out a new supplier? I got K two packages of tissues…that’s 20 boxes of tissues. I hope she doesn’t finish them soon. We got some bachelor packs of rice, some potatoes, some cheese (Havarti AND Feta), some puddings, some wieners, some kolbasa from Canada and some root beer (2 boxes!) I picked up some unsalted nuts in small packs. I’ve been buying them from the hundred yen shop and I get less and the quality isn’t good. Costco’s will probably be better. I did get myself some sliced chicken for my lunches and some small bags of potato chips from Canada. I couldn’t find the French ones I’ve bought the last couple of times. I drooled over a few things but didn’t buy them. Some things at Costco don’t fit into my life!

When I was ready to checkout I texted F in case he wanted to help and checked out. The total was more than ¥20,000, but it was fine. I got a lot of stuff. I wanted to put the food in the car right away, F wanted to have a drink and a snack right away. He’d been sitting down, hogging a table for an hour or so and hadn’t had a drink or food. I have a hard time with that. He said it was busy and he didn’t want to lose his table. I’m sure a lot of people thought bad things!

We took the food to the car and packed it into the cooler box and the other bags. It didn’t take long, and we forgot to get dry ice! Yikes.

We went back in after all the stuff was away and had our snack. We both had the hotdog and a dark cherry sundae. The hotdog comes with drinks, so that was good. We both enjoyed our food and both of us did a washroom run and got more drinks for the road.

We drove out of Yamagata. Usually we go to Yamaya on the way, but I didn’t need to today. F kept making wrong turns and going down strange roads. It was weird! He had asked me on the way if I’d like to stop at the Sagae rest stop and I said yes. I’d drunk a lot today and a chance to walk around and use a clean washroom is always a good thing. We got on the highway and he asked me again if I wanted to stop at the Sagae rest stop. I said, “Yes, please.” Somehow he heard that as, “ No, I’m fine.” so he didn’t stop. It didn’t twig on him later when I asked him if we had passed Sagae yet. He said we hadn’t. We had. I watched as rest stops went by and we didn’t stop. Finally, when we were nearly back in Tsuruoka there was another one posted and I asked to stop there. F seemed surprised when I asked him why he hadn’t stopped before. He didn’t need to use a washroom. I just shake my head sometimes. He’s so busy listening to his “favourite singer” on his app that he can’t be bothered to listen to me.

The washroom visit was fine. I was kind of chuffed to see the place. The ladies room had been decorated with origami cranes in pink and there was even a crocheted “welcome” sign. Of course, it was immaculate too.

Back on the road again, we decided we’d go to the house first and unload the car. We’d check on K as well and then go out for the usual shop and our dinner. Well, we got to the house and F rushed into the house, leaving me to bring in all of the shopping. All of the shopping. I was really not impressed. It would have been one thing if I hadn’t asked for help, but I had. Some of the stuff was heavy and there were a lot of bags from our other shopping today too. He didn’t help at all.

Then, when I called him on it, he grabbed the cooler (we did get some dry ice in Yamagata so it was cold in there) and started unloading it and putting things all over the place. I wasn’t too pleased with him. There’s still a ton of crap in the fridge, now the crap has stuff on top of it. Ack. He left soon after.  His mother was fine. She’d eaten a mess of edamame as I thought she would. A relative had dropped them off yesterday apparently. I’ll never see any of them!

When the food was away and the non-perishables were ready to take upstairs, we decided to leave again. I suggested going to Gusto since it was near MaxValu. It’s open 24 hours.

Gusto was fine. We got in right away and I had the Asian Platter again. I enjoyed it a lot. F had chicken too, his was more Japanese style.

We went to MaxValu and I went in. I got stuff for tomorrow night and breakfasts and then came back to the car. We drove back to the house where once again, F didn’t help a bit. I had to carry the grocery bag into the kitchen and then he started to put things away, but stopped when he was in my way. I don’t know what he was trying to do, he managed to annoy me even more. He went and hid in the washroom.

I got ready to go upstairs with most of my stuff. I had to leave one box downstairs, but I left it on the stairs so F would have to bring it up. I had my handbag, my jacket, the grocery stuff for the two of us, two bags of shopping from today and the box of nuts. I was loaded.

Then, when I got in the room, it was so hot. It was 32 degrees in the room. I immediately turned on the AC and my fan, I put some of the stuff away.

And that’s about it. I’m not sure what I’ll get up to tomorrow. I’ll probably recover from today! Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow…..
