Saturday - Snowy, rainy, cold

We woke up this morning when F’s phone rang. I said, “DAYCARE!” Sure enough, we had overslept and F hadn’t taken his mother into her daycare. Oops. F got up immediately and went downstairs to get her up and a few minutes later, I went down to use the loo! I went back to bed. F quickly made something for her breakfast and then took K off to her daycare. He came back into the house and started to do fish stuff.

I came down later after I got up. I wanted to see what he was up to. He was cleaning his fish tank, but unfortunately had fallen at one point and spilled half a bucket of water on the floor. Oh dear. I think he’s okay, but he didn’t do the tatami any good.

We talked about going for lunch and I said that I had been thinking about one place, but the weather outside was bad so we shouldn’t go there. The next thing I knew, F was calling them to see if we could get in! They said they were busy, but maybe in half an hour, it would be okay. It would take us about half an hour to get there anyway, so that was fine. I hurriedly finished dressing and a few minutes later we were hurtling down some country roads to get to Fujishima.

We had a nice lunch at one of the places we go there. It’s in an old house and it’s a cool old building. We didn’t get the room with the window out to the garden, but it was fine. We both had the lunch special and it was nice. It was a ginger pork with quite a few side dishes, rice, and soup.

When we came back to Tsuruoka proper, we went to a hardware store. F wanted to fix the shogi (paper window screens) in his mother’s room. There are a few all over the house that need work too. The first store didn’t have what F needed, so we ended up going elsewhere and they had his supplies.

We came back to the house. He didn’t need my help so I came upstairs and vegged with a bit of YouTube. Around 4 pm, F came upstairs and said that he’d run out of something so he needed to go and get more. Would I mind waiting downstairs for his mother to come back? Not really! F was doing something necessary and I wasn’t, so it made sense.

The minivan from the Day Service came back around 4:40 or so. I went out to meet K and the Day Service lady handed her over. I helped K into the house. I hadn’t really noticed how frail K is getting. She clung on to my arm until we got close to the house and then let go and toddled into the house.

F returned just a few minutes later and I let him take over K's care! He did come upstairs and decided that he’d cook K’s dinner. He made her something and then came back upstairs and asked me where I’d like to go for dinner. I said that I really didn’t have a big idea and a family restaurant would be fine for me. I know he doesn’t like them much.

We decided to go to Gusto and I suggested that we visit Yamaya first. It’s across the street from Gusto and it closes at 9pm.  F thought it was a good idea too. We got to Yamaya and bought a few things. I got some tea, some crackers, and some smoked oysters. F got some alcohol for New Year's Eve I think.

Then, we tried to go to Gusto. Unfortunately, it was really busy. It was lined up to the outside door, so we decided to go somewhere else. F suggested one place, I suggested somewhere else, and we ended up at the new Indian Restaurant. It wasn’t busy and we went in.

We had a good meal there. As usual, we had the couples set and it was great. F complains about the price, but honestly, we got a ton of food and it was nice. When we left, we paid our money and we were given a discount. I even gave F a bit of money as I’d told him that I’d go halves on dinner with him.

We came back to the house and upstairs. It was quite early so I decided to watch some stuff off the Fire Stick. I watched an episode of The Great British Bake-Off, then an episode of Loot. I finished up with FBI on cable. I had a good night of TV. I also found out there’s another season of The Devil’s Hour. I thought it was a one-and-done. I’ll have to try and watch it.

I’m not sure what we’re going to get up to tomorrow. F might work on the Shogi again and I have to do the grocery shopping. I’d like to do something fun, but I’m not sure that F is in the mood for it.

Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
