Saturday - Hot and sunny, but not humid
I woke up a little earlier than I planned this morning so I managed to go back to sleep for a while. My alarm went off around 9 and I got up. I was going to go downstairs but F and K were still bopping around below. I waited a few minutes and then went downstairs after they left.
F came back to the house and brought me up some ice cream which I didn’t really want at 10:30 since I was trying to sleep in! I told him I’d have it later.
I did finally drag myself out of bed and got dressed. I went downstairs to see F and he was just vegging in the living room. We talked about lunch and I came up with a few ideas. I thought about either the Chinese restaurant across the park or the restaurant in Kushibiki. F picked the Kushibiki one. We drove out there and…they were closed for lunch. They’d likely run out of rice or something. We drove back to Tsuruoka and tried the one across the park. We were able to go in, get a table and had a lovely meal. F had the kara-age set meal and I had the mapo-dofu set meal. We shared a bit of our main dish so that was nice, although I think F took more of my mapo-dofu than was fair!
After lunch we went to a drugstore to pick up a couple of things and then went over to F’s gas station to pick up some gas! It was a little after 3 by now and F needed to get back to the house early to be there for K. With the fireworks being on tonight in the city, the Day Service Center was bringing people back early.
Back at the house we had our ice cream from earlier. I took mine upstairs and cooled down the room, F waited downstairs with his for his mother.
I relaxed upstairs with some YouTube and later F came up. We spent a bit of time under the air conditioner. I read some of my book and F used his computer.
Around 6, F made his mother something for dinner. I think he made her noodles or something! Then, it was our time. We talked about where to go and F at first suggested a yakiniku place but it is very expensive. We’d be able to see the fireworks if we got a good seat there, but, it cost too much. We ended up at Gusto. We couldn’t see the fireworks, but I could feel them! I was sitting against one of the walls and every time a noisy firework went off, the wall shook a bit. It was cool!
We left around 8 pm and F tried to find us a good place to watch the fireworks from afar. We drove up a hill and there was a good place, but he didn’t like it. He kept driving off in weird directions and honestly, going much too fast so I was a bit nervous. Finally he found a decent place so we parked and he put on the YouTube broadcast of the fireworks for the noise. (I love the noise of fireworks!) The fireworks were supposed to go until 9 pm but at 8:48 F said the voice on the YouTube channel said it was over. He drove off. And then the grand finale started! ACK. He always does that. He drove around looking for another good place to watch and finally found one. If only he wasn’t so impatient to get going!
When it was over, I suggested staying away from certain routes in the city as there would be lots of pedestrians out and about on their way home. I thought he didn’t know where he was going, but it turns out that he did. Yay. We went to the grocery store and picked up a few things. F needed something for K’s breakfast I think.
We came back to the house and I headed upstairs. It was hot again in the room, but not horrible. Yay. I watched some YouTube and then tonight’s FBI. It was good, if sad.
F finally came upstairs around midnight. I was surprised that he stayed downstairs for so long, but he didn’t have to come upstairs if he didn’t want to!
So, today was an okay day overall. I’m a bit sad that we had to come back to the house so early. I’m getting a little bit tired of that. I know that there was a reason today, but F is often trying to come back an hour or more earlier than we have to. I spend most of the week and the house and I want out…he spends most of the week out of the house and he wants in! Not sure how to deal with this really.
Anyway, that’s it for me for today. I’m not sure what we’ll do tomorrow. Originally we’d talked about going to Yamagata but I don’t think it is in the cards now. I’m sad about that, but there are reasons.
