Following a link on IMDb, I found an article that asked about the difference between great movies and movies that you can watch more than once. For example, from my own life, I know that I could only watch Schindler's List once. It's a great film, but it upset me on so many levels that I can never watch it again. In fact when my husband bought the dvd of it, I made him promise not to watch it when I'm around.
I have a bunch of movies that in my life I have seen at least five times, and will probably see them a lot more often. These are my "go-to" movies for when I'm sad, lonely, or just need to feel better. If you so choose, please add yours in the comments below!
Strictly Ballroom
The Princess Bride
Dead Again
Tremors
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Airplane
Die Hard
Speed
A Fish Called Wanda
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
This is Spinal Tap
Monty Python And the Holy Grail
Grease 2 (I've never seen Grease!)
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Back to the Future
The Breakfast Club
Apartment Zero
The Quick and The Dead
Fargo
Lone Star

Though I know it's a black comedy, I find Fargo very unsettling. I've seen it twice and it feels too real to me, especially the way in which the father is gunned down, the wife is killed, and the husband reacts when arrested.
For me, I'm far more likely to watch T.V. shows again and again than movies. Particularly, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, The Bob Newhart Show, The Simpsons, The Tick, and Futurama. However, my husband and I have watched the Star Trek movies, Airplane, and all the Python movies multiple times.
The Tick? Do you mean the animated series, or the one with actors? I loved the animated one way back when! I thought for a "Saturday Morning Cartoon" it was just too funny for kids. Never seen Futurama.... I'm a big Friends watcher. A couple of my favourite episodes can brighten a bad day.
I agree with you about Fargo, believe it or not. Looking back on it, I tend to focus more on the things that I like about it....Frances McDormand's performance, the snappy writing, and of course William H. Macy's amazing performance, than the violence. It is very violent, but I think I have seen it five times...want to watch it again too.
I don't know, i don't seem to be the type that can watch a movie more than once. Or maybe, I just never found a movie that I would want to watch more than once ... But on the other hand, i did love a lot of movies that I have watched. Though I never thought to watch them again. Maybe I am just culturally unsophisticated...:-))
Thank you for the link on this blog as well. I will put up this link and leave the other one as it is on my blog. I love your book archives. :-))
I love the live action series and have seen it 4x already. I've watched the animated show twice. I like both quite a lot. The animated show has more of a "kiddy" feel to it, but is truer to the original comic. The T.V. show was more adult-oriented, but less true to the original Tick image (for legal reasons, I've heard).
Oh KC...really? Don't know if you're into British style/wacky comedy, but This is Spinal Tap is one movie that the more you watch, the funnier it gets, because you know the lines and can say them...."This one goes up to eleven"....bah ha ha! If we ever meet, I'll bring some dvds....sometimes you need to be with the right people to get the films!
Dead Again, a movie about reincarnation and murder and love (stars Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson and Derek Jacobi) is one movie that I ALWAYS find something new in each time I see it.
I do promise to update my book listing, if I ever finish a book. I've been reading one (or rather NOT reading it) for a month or more. Sigh.
Shari, next time I'm home I'll keep an eye out for the live action Tick. I read about it in Empire a couple of years ago and it sounded good then too.
Thanks for the comments ladies!
Ha Ha! You already had me laughing along from the sheer enthusiasm of your comment! *grin*
I will definitely watch This is Spinal tap and Dead Again. Maybe I will get hooked into watching those movies more than once as well! :-)) Your comment really made it sound promising. :-)) Thank you.
I hope you like it! This is Spinal Tap is about a heavy metal band...it's a rockumentary. All these terrible things keep happening to them. Seriously, funnier the second or third time you see it!
Enjoy!
