We just had an earthquake this morning at 8:43. It was a level 4 here in Tsuruoka on the Japanese scale. The epicenter was in Iwate prefecture.
It lasted quite a long time. Both Fumihiko and I were sleeping. He thought he was late for work, forgetting it was Saturday, when it started.
We're fine here, but I haven't heard about anybody else in the area.
Later!

Thanks for letting us know you are okay- I was worried when I heard. Hope there wasn't too much damage.
We didn't have any damage where I am, but there may have been some in other places.
Helen: I am from Tsuruoka's sister city, New Brunswick, NJ. I visited in November. Please, was there any damage there?

I was worried too. What a relief to hear you are okay.
We felt it here in Tokyo. Seemed to last for ages. I hate earthquakes for obvious reasons, but especially in our new building. It has those roller things and with those long quakes I start to feel queasy.
James, hi, and thanks for the comment. I don't think there was any damage in Tsuruoka. My husband works for the prefecture and had to report in after the quake, but said there wasn't much damage around here.
Sherry...it did last a long time didn't it? I got up when it started...The earthquake happened 2 minutes before my alarm! I felt queasy here, but there aren't any rollers in our building! Just a bit too close for comfort.
