I wonder what motivated these particular choices for the list. There's a bit of a European bias though there are Asian dishes. Also, why is venison on the list but not rabbit or squirrel? If it's supposed to be atypical or exotic foods, they'd fit the bill. (For the record, I've had venison, rabbit, and squirrel and disliked them all.)

I'm kind of annoyed at the heavy concentration on meat, expensive or luxury foods and alcohol in the list as the low level foods seem outnumbered by the posher ones 2 to 1.

It's certainly an interesting list though!

That was a fun meme to read- I was surprised how much i could tick off the list.

YOU LIVED IN SOUTH AFRICA!?!?!?! How cool that must have been.

Loved the pic of you meeting up with a fellow blogger.

I can't remember if I told you that I may have work out there in January/ February. My company asked me to go out to Yamagata City for next weekend but the other office had already lined me up for an event in Sanjo. Anyhow, Tsuroka or Sakata was on the list of places that I could be sent to work.

Orchid64--I think the list was created by an English person, which probably speaks to why so many European and Indian dishes.

I've eaten rabbit, but not squirrel....had moose, buffalo and a bunch of other weird things too!

I wasn't impressed by all the alcohol either. I do eat meat so it didn't bother me, but I think there should have been more fish or "common" foods. I'm assuming that this is a list for gourmets, or rich people!

Lily! You're going to come to Tsuruoka or Sakata? Either one is great! If I have enough notice I'll be happy to meet up with you. Tsuruoka and Sakata will likely have lots of snow in Jan or Feb, and it'll be a little cold...be prepared.

We did live in South Africa when I was really young. Dad worked for oil companies so we tooled around the world. It was cool....and very hot!

I was so happy to meet up with M. I don't read her blog every day, but happened to read it on Sunday and saw she was in town. It was a happy coincidence. It was also a treat to have coffee with another foreign woman.
