January 21, 2009 - Wednesday

Cool, but no rain or snow. Yay.

I had a quiet day today. I spent most of the day at home, which was okay. I had thought about going out, but never got up the gumption to do it!

I filled up the kerosene tank this morning as it was running low. I don't mind doing it in the daylight, but I dislike opening the balcony door at night. There's no light on our balcony and it's hard to see, besides it's cold!

I had a light breakfast of yogurt for a change and then for lunch I had some frozen carbonara that was in the freezer. It was surprisingly good.

When Fumihiko came home, we went to my school to set the heater for tomorrow, then hit up the grocery store. We needed milk and cornflakes. During the afternoon I surfed the web for baked chicken recipes and found an easy one, but I needed cornflakes to coat the chicken with. Milk was for our coffee.

At home, I prepared the chicken and set it in the oven. The oven was too small for my pan, and so it didn't turn at all. However, the chicken was really nice. Fumihiko asked me when he sat down, what sauce he should put on it. I was not too happy at that! My beautiful crispy chicken didn't need a sauce. And, after he tried it, he agreed and said that he really liked it! I'm not sure if it was any lower in calories than pan-frying it...I had to use mayonaise to keep the cornflake-parmesan mix on, but it made a nice change. We had a salad and a few pickles with dinner.

We had an almost quiet evening tonight. Fumihiko watched a bunch of tv that I found boring/annoying, but it was my own fault. He had asked me to watch a movie with him tonight, but I didn't feel like it.

That was my day basically. Tomorrow I have two classes and won't be cooking dinner as I don't finish until late.

Oh..before I go, it is two weeks plus a day until my birthday. Any suggestions for a good present for me to ask hubby for? I have magazine subscriptions, (too many) clothes, and I don't wear jewellery except for my watch and rings. At the moment I don't "need" anything and I can't think of anything to ask for really. Suggestions?

Goodnight.

We don't give each other gifts anymore because we're essentially in the same situation as you. That is, neither of us needs anything or really wants anything.

If you want something special, you could request an exotic food gift (something imported, and a little expensive), or some sort of service-based gift (like a cleaning service for your home or school so you don't have to do something, or a beauty salon gift certificate).

Generally, I ask for a "good day" and to do whatever I want and have whatever I want. This is usually Starbucks and a pastry delivered to me, some Indian food, and a food rub.

I actually thought of you when I wrote this Orchid! I thought that you might have some good ideas.

The salon gift does sound okay, not sure if my stylist offers it. No Starbucks around here... The cleaning service is okay...I'd probably use it for my school, although it's in pretty good shape.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll pass them on to hubby!

No matter what i make Yasu tries to put bulldog sauce or mustard or kewpie mayo on it! It so annoys me especially when it already has crumbs or a marinade. Grr.

I was thinking of a day spa voucher, or something like that?

How about going away and spending the weekend in a hotel or ryokan somewhere nice, with or without hubby?

A day trip somewhere you've never been before?

How about classes to something you want to do or learn?

A voucher for books or some department store for you to use when you want?

The day trip does sound good Kelly! I might suggest it. I don't like ryokans because of the early getting up, and the last couple of times we stayed at ryokans it didn't go too well for us.
Hotel might be okay.

No lessons around here in English, and my Japanese is too crap to understand them if they were in Japanese.

Books sounds good, but if you could see the "to read" pile I have you wouldn't suggest it!

Thanks for the ideas. I'll pass them on to F-baby.

And, glad to hear I'm not the only one who has a "What sauce should I use?" problem.

Thanks for commenting :-)
