25 Things about Me

I was hit up for this on Facebook, and also saw it on another blog. It's a good way to update my 100 Things About Me, but more quickly!

  1. I love chocolate. Dark chocolate, white chocolate, milk chocolate, you name it, if it's chocolate I'll probably eat it.
  2. I am addicted to coffee, but I really enjoy a good cup of tea. I like Earl Grey especially.
  3. I think I have a tendency to be either a bit too earthy or too pretentious.
  4. I am so not a morning person. I can get up early if I have plans or there's a darn good reason, but just cause you want me to get up early? Fuggetabout.
  5. I love popcorn. When I make it at home I put either curry powder, garlic, or mustard on it. The first two have to have butter as well!
  6. I love movies. I don't really like watching them at home as much as in a theater.
  7. I have days where if I hear one more word of Japanese from anybody, I think I'll have a meltdown. It's inconvenient because I of course live in Japan.
  8. I chew ice all the time. It's most likely a symptom of having an iron deficiency.
  9. I'm a computer potato. I really spend too much time on-line.
  10. I'm envious when I hear that other foreign wives have coffee meet-ups or dinner get togethers in other cities. I never meet any other foreign wives here. And darn few foreigners period.
  11. My best friend and I bonded in French class in high school. We started talking about ouija boards. (Not in French!)
  12. I've had an array of jobs in my life. I've been a farm kid (unpaid labor), hotel desk clerk, painter (houses etc.), maintenance worker, resident assistant, bank teller and English teacher.
  13. I've recently decided that I quite like cooking and am not bad at it. However, I don't have a lot of variety in my cooking.
  14. I don't like extremes of temperature. I don't like Japanese summers because of the heat and humidity, and I don't like Canadian winters because of the cold.
  15. I have a list of celebrities that I'd sleep with if I had the chance. It's not laminated though!
  16. I've never wanted to have children. My mother always said that I would want to have children some day, but I never did.
  17. I'm allergic to peanuts, cloth bandages and green peppers make me hiccup.
  18. Apparently I snore loudly. Sigh.
  19. I love taking baths, but I can't stand the temperature that my husband set the bath at in our apartment, so now I only have baths when I stay in a hotel.
  20. I don't like using the telephone or a cell phone. I don't mind texting or emailing, just talking on the phone. When my house phone rings, I screen all my calls.
  21. I am hopelessly devoted to karaoke. I like going at least once a month. It's the best stress relief I know.
  22. I hope to travel more in the future. The last couple of years have been a bit bad for that. I prefer travelling alone.
  23. I worry too much about things that will probably never happen.
  24. I haven't seen my MIL in 3 or 4 years. It hasn't been long enough yet. We live in the same city.
  25. I love my engagement ring. It's an amethyst set into a Nina Ricci band. The stone is quite small, and doesn't protrude much. As I work with people I didn't want something that could accidentally hurt someone. The store really didn't want my fiance to buy me a ring with an amethyst in it. My now husband bought the wedding band on his own and I don't like it. It doesn't match the engagement ring and is uncomfortable to wear. However, I did rescue it when it fell in the toilet one year!

Wow, you eat popcorn with mustard on it? amazing...i've never heard of that before!

I agree with you about #7, or though you have it tougher than me, and i can just walk away. But like if we have friends over from Japan (like japanese house guests from hell...) i can't escape, or i go to the toilet often just to get away from hearing Japanese. haha

I am not a morning person either. I'm such a night owl. I never go to bed before 1am. And if i do, i can't sleep so i usually play on my ipod.

Do you take iron pills for your deficiency?

I hate japanese summers in hokkaido, 39 degrees with almost 100% humidity, actually where i live used to be so dry, now it's become like a japanese summer...yuck, i hate it!

Don't you just hate it when people say "you'll want to have kids some day"? When i was younger i didn't want kids and people used to say it to me all the time. I did eventually want kids, but some people don't. I respect that! It's like now people are saying "when are you going to have kids?" and i'm like "when my body decides it will work!" that usually shuts them up about it...haha

Does Fumihiko like using the phone? Yasu hates it and won't answer the home phone, just like his dad. I think he's influenced me alot because now i feel a slight phobia about answering the home phone too! And i screen the calls on my mobile, if it's an unknown number i don't answer.

How funny that the shop didn't want Fumihiko to buy an engagement ring with an amethyst in it! They are meant to be trying to sell rings not discourage buyers! Is it because they think it had to be a diamond? *rolls eyes*

How can i find you on facebook? I added a woman with your name, but she had a daughter and i realised it's not you...haha :)

I use the American style mustard that they put on hotdogs. It's an acquired taste, but I like it!

We never have guests over. It's mostly the TV "noise" that I don't like. All those oohing and ahhing young women with reedy high voices. Ugh.

I have been taking iron supplements for a couple of months now. Just low doses though. I hope it's helping, but it's hard for me to tell!

Now that I'm older I get less people asking me when I'm going to have children. It was mostly my family giving me a hard time though.

Fumihiko likes using the phone. It goes back to my banking days and getting yelled at by customers. I have a bit of a phobia now.

Yes, about the ring. The woman was quite nasty about it. She told Fumihiko to buy me a diamond ring then and for our 10th anniversary to buy me an amethyst ring. It made me so angry I didn't want to get my ring there at all. He insisted though.

And, Facebook. Hmm. I'll try to find you maybe?

Thanks for commenting.

Love this post- so many interesting things you revealed *lol*. I read so many great books recently that I want to blog about- Jhumpa Lahiri's Namesake, I can't remember the authors name but "The Prisoner in Tehran" and another called "Three cups of tea".

I will be in Oguni, Yamagata at the end of the month, I didn't end up doing Sakata as they found someone closer by to do it and Niigata's office had me booked for almost all of January and February.

I love the fresh look of your blog. Heres hoping the weather improves a bit more on our end of the country eh!

We have to meet in person before this next baby pops out- fingers crossed.

I had to look up where Oguni is Lily! I've never heard of it.

Are you going to the Convention?? I may be going to Niigata city at the end of February, beginning of March. Will you be around then?

Thanks for visiting.

You have to spill who's on your list! I have one too, and my husband is always asking for updates, just so he can be on guard in case Pavel Bure or Johnny Depp is walking around our inaka town. ;)
I have days where if I hear another word in Japanese I'll scream too. I've had to hole myself up in the bathroom at work sometimes just to get away.

Medea, how funny is this! I just commented on your list on Facebook.

I was wondering if anyone would ask about my list. Ummm... Jason Statham, Russell Crowe, Colin Firth, Bruce Campbell... Subject to change without notice of course.
