June 8, 2009 - Monday

Muggy, but no rain. Quite hot.

Today has been a fairly good day. I got up reasonably early this morning, much to the surprise of my husband. After a bit we went out for brunch to the Washington Hotel. They have a great view of Tsuruoka (the restaurant is on the eighth floor) and a cheap lunch. Lunch runs around 700 yen per person and includes a refillable salad, dessert and coffee. We had a nice lunch then went and did some business.

We went to the Water Department of Tsuruoka. They have been sending me a bill for the three years that I have had my school, when I'd much rather have it taken out of my school account. Also, the bill has my family name, plus 3 letters from my first name. It just seems rude! They asked me if I'd mind having my name on it in katakana instead...umm, an almost rude word vs name in katakana. Katakana wins. We did all that, plus I paid the bill. Hurray.

Next up, I wanted to get a new chair for me to use when I'm on my computer. Since I got sciatica this February, my old chair just hasn't been very comfortable. We looked in a hardware store near the Water Department, but hubby suggested going out to Nitori near the Mall. That's what we did.

We got there and had a look around. I did a sit test and quickly narrowed my choice down to two. Then I had another little think and decided that if they would both fit in the car, I'd get both. I definitely needed one for home, as my chair had been used for a long time and was starting to feel very uncomfortable. But, at school, I've been using the same style of chair and I was quite sure it would go down the same path. Well, I decided to get one chair first, and then if there was room in the car I'd get another one. I got my chair for home and it fitted in the boot. So, we went back in and bought the other one for my school.

We had a quick drink in the mall and then came back into Tsuruoka. We went over to my school, where Fumihiko very nicely put the chair together for me. He had to run home and get tools, so I did quite a bit of work in the school. I vacuumed, dusted, folded laundry, threw out old boxes that I'd been keeping and just generally kept busy.

Fumihiko finished and then we had some tea. The chair looked good! Really good. I just hope that the students don't fight me for it!

We had a nice and uneventful dinner at Kintaro Sushi and then bought groceries for tomorrow night. Hubby volunteered to cook as he'll be home before me.

We came home and Fumihiko made up my other chair. I cleared a bit of a space for it around my computer. Anyway, I am now sitting pretty on my new chair. It is very comfortable. I can adjust the height of the chair and the height of the arms. It has a movable cushion, a bit like a lumbar cushion, that I have up at my head as a headrest. In short, it's a really nice chair. It's an office chair, they both are...don't know if I made that clear.

I watched American Idol again tonight. Fumihiko made it through most of it, but then went to bed before it was quite over. It was good tonight. I generally agreed with the judges. It was Motown Week.

Anyway, that's about it for me. I had a really nice day, not what I expected, but exactly what I hoped. Night.
