Wednesday - Hot, humid, rainy
A good day.
I got up this morning and watched my weekend’s TV, pretty good stuff. I did all my computer stuff, but finally got so sleepy that I had to take a nap. I went into the bedroom, set my timer and the fan to blow on me and slept. I kept waking up and resetting the alarm as I was still tired.
After I got up, I watched a bit more TV, mostly news and then turned off the TV. Gasp. At one point the TV and the cicadas were drowned out by something else. Rain. Yikes.
We’d talked last night of going to see the fireworks, if F could get us tickets to sit on benches. I’ve reached the age of gentility (or maybe it’s just age) where I don’t want to sit on the ground any more. He phoned me at his usual leaving work time. He still wasn’t finished, but would be soon. He couldn’t get us tickets but he wanted me to get ready to go and see the fireworks anyway. He couldn’t talk longer, and said he’d call again.
I did get dressed, albeit a bit grudgingly. I didn’t really want to go. I had a quick look for our groundsheets but couldn’t find them.
When he came home, he said that a co-worker had suggested going to the S-Mall parking lot to see the fireworks. I countered with the idea of going to a restaurant in Voice. They had an open air patio, maybe we could get in there?
We tried the place in Voice first and there were still lots of tables and chairs available. It was free to get in, it wasn’t really running as a restaurant, but the restaurant staff had stalls selling yakitori and kakigori and drinks. F got us a couple of oolong teas and yakitori and we sat down. He ran over to the grocery store to pick us up more drinks and some onigiri and then came back just as the show was getting started. It was a great place! We could even hear a bit of the fireworks noise, plus the staff had a radio tuned to the live broadcast of the fireworks on the radio. (I’m not sure why it was broadcast on the radio…but, this is Japan.)
We managed to miss all the sentimental enka music and the awful J-Pop that usually goes along with the fireworks - bonus! We did get rained on a little though. It wasn’t awful, but definitely was getting a bit strong at the end. All in all, a fun night out for us.
When we left the Voice shopping area we talked about getting something else to eat. We decided to go to Gusto as we could choose a lot or a little. We went there, just beating the rush and had an okay meal. I had a salad that had warm veggies and cold lettuce, and a chicken dish, F had a pork dish with veggies, rice and miso soup.
We came home just a few minutes after 10 pm so it was time for me to watch Pillars of the Earth. It was good again, but tonight was quite sad. One of the major characters died and another married the wrong guy. Still, good stuff really.
And that was it. F and I didn’t fight, he didn’t go walkabout during the fireworks, and it just turned into a nice evening together. Hurray for that. Night!

I like that. Gentility, nice way of putting it.
Quite frankly, I hate sitting on the floor (tatami) in that leg crushing position (seiza).
After three years of living without furniture, the gaijin really came out in me.
I need a chair, with a backrest and legs.
I'll get off my soapbox now. Thank you.
Thank you!
I don't think I've sat seiza for more than a minute or two. I'm too heavy to do it for long. Besides, it does horrible things to the knees. My DH's knees are all knobbly from sitting like that as a kid.
Furniture is a must. We have a couch and I have a nice office chair that I live on for my computer life.
You know, you have to do what will help you survive. For me it was a proper bed and a couch. I did the futon thing for a few years before marriage. It was fun, but I don't want to go back now!
