Friday - Hot and sunny, rather muggy
An okay day.
I got up this morning at a reasonable time, which surprised me. I did try to go to bed a little bit earlier last night, but just as I got into bed and was settling myself for sleep, the bed started shaking. After I checked that it wasn’t F moving the bed, I got up and checked the TV. We were having an earthquake. It wasn’t bad here, but was much stronger at the epicentre. This earthquake thing really seems to love the anniversaries of the big quake. F slept through the whole thing.
After I got up, I showered, spent time on my computer and tried to watch a show I taped yesterday. It had recorded in Japanese. I swear, I don’t know what is going on with this so called new and improved system. Improved in what way?
I was just starting to get my lunch together, when F came home. He’d taken the afternoon off. He headed straight to bed and I finished lunch and then left. He did offer to drive me, but I wanted to do a little shopping on my way home, so didn’t want the favour. I always feel weird asking him to take me to a drugstore or to the craft shop, especially the latter, when I wasn’t really planning to buy anything, it was just a reconnoiter. I’m almost sure he wouldn’t see the point.
I got to my school in good time and started to get it set up for today’s class. The prospective student and her father came and went.
I quickly cleaned up the classroom and then grabbed my bike and left the school. I stopped at the drugstore and then the craft store. I ogled some lovely wool and yarn in Tokai, but didn’t buy anything. I have to finish my current project first!
I came home and F was happy to see me. I had also received a postcard from Postcrossing so that was nice too.
We hummed and hawed a bit about dinner. I took a mini nap and then F suggested Kintaro Sushi. It was fine with me so off we went. We had to wait for ages to get seats, and while we were waiting I noticed a familiar face walking by. At least, I thought she was familiar. I asked F if it was the person I thought, and he said it wasn’t. However, just as we were being seated, she walked past us again and I caught her eye. She recognised me. It was her! She is the wife of an ex-student that was very kind to me when I first came to Japan. When I taught in Sakata, I stayed in their apartment a few times so my students and I could have parties. This lady even made my wedding bouquet for me! My ex-student wasn’t at the restaurant tonight, his wife was there with her daughter, who is heaps bigger than she was when I last saw her. We chatted and I gave her my card. I hope she gets in touch!
After dinner, F and I bought a few groceries and then came home. F knew that I wanted him to watch Zombieland with me tonight, but he asked if he could watch something else first. It was fine really, just difficult to watch. He was watching films about the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. So awful.
Zombieland was fun, and I think F did enjoy it. I had seen it in Sendai last year, but F hadn’t even heard of it.
After the movie and a bit of TV, he went to bed. I think I’m going to head off soon too. I’m rather tired. Part of today was very stressful, but it’s over now. Tomorrow should be a better day I hope. I have one class early on and then I’m done for the day. I think we’ll go to Mikawa Shopping Center to pick up my clothing that I put in to be repaired, after that I do not know. I was thinking to subject F to the Twilight saga which is on TV, but I’m not sure that I’m that evil of a person. (Rubs hands together, chuckles under breath.) Or, maybe I am! Night.
