I also thought I'd post my very first card that I received, which coincidentally came from Taiwan too. I collect Black & White postcard portraits of famous people, and this card fit right in with them. She's a Japanese Jazz Musician, Toshiko Akiyoshi.
I looked her up on Wikipedia, and apparently, she was born in China (Manchuria) to Japanese parents, but went to the US to study music. She was discovered in Japan by Oscar Peterson, so there's a Canadian connection too. She lives in New York and is apparently quite famous, although I hadn't heard of her before this. (I'm not a big jazz fan, although I'm liking it more these days!)

The bottom postcard looks sepia in this photo, but it is a straight black and white.
