Thursday - Clear in the daytime

Both F and I woke up late this morning. I dragged myself out of bed around 11, I think F slept a bit longer. He went downstairs to make his mother some noodles, I stayed in my room on my computer.

Around 1:30, F and I went out for lunch. I was a tad surprised that we were going out so late, I was ready a lot earlier. We went to Kintaro Sushi. I didn’t think it would be open today, but it was and while not packed, it was quite busy. We had some nice sushi and miso soup. Keitensushi is a good thing at this time of year when we were both feeling somewhat overstuffed.

We drove out to Mikawa Mall, but the traffic was really backed up. F seemed a bit worried about it, but I suggested not going to the mall after all, just going to the department store on the outskirts of Sakata. I was a bit dozy at the time, I woke up from a nap-let and he had passed the Mikawa Mall, so knew we were going to Sakata.

It turned out to be a good thing. They weren’t quite as busy. My first thing was to check the yarn department, and I ended up getting a bunch of yarn there too. I got some fairly nice stuff and was happy.  We checked out the hundred yen shop upstairs and didn’t buy anything, then went to Mr Donuts and I bought F and I a coffee and a doughnut each.

I suggested going back to Tsuruoka via Mikawa Mall. I wanted to go and check the yarn (yes, really!) and also suggested that we pick up some food for our dinner. If we got some nice stuff, we could have dinner with K at the house.  That’s mostly what we did.

I checked out the yarn and found some more yarn that I wanted. I can’t believe it. The basket here was much flatter though and yarn wouldn’t stay on it. I tried to get more than 20 balls on it, but they wouldn’t stay put. Then F got in on the action and he made it worse!  I gave up, and just took the twenty balls. After all, I have now bought way too much yarn over the last two days! Snort.  No such thing.

We checked out the grocery store and didn’t buy a big mixed platter as they only had one and it didn’t look like good value. What we did was buy a platter of chicken legs, a platter of Vietnamese type spring rolls and a mixed salad platter. I added in some pickled cucumbers as I know his mother likes them.  We got a few other things too, my lunch for Friday and some meat pies from New Zealand that people here were raving about. We went through the checkout and then back to the car.

We drove back to Tsuruoka and unpacked the car. I brought my yarn upstairs. Yay me.

F got to work heating up the food and I set the table and put food out.  We had quite a nice feast. F and his mother ate some of the older food from New Years Day and before, but I wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole.  I don’t need food poisoning thank you very much. My stomach isn’t made of cast iron.

We had a nice friendly dinner. I think K enjoyed herself.  Afterwards, F and I did the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen a little. I threw out a few things that mysteriously end up all over the place!

I came upstairs and started logging my yarn on Ravelry and F came up a bit later. We watched a few episodes of ER and then I made us some coffee, decaf of course.

F did me a favour, which I really hope works. He fixed my cup for me. I knocked my lovely handmade cup that I got last year off my desk last night and the handle broke into three pieces. He superglued it tonight and says it is as good as new. I am a little nervous about it, but hope that he’s correct. I’d really like to keep using it. I might try it for cold liquid first, don’t want to have hot tea spilling around my computer.

That’s about it for me for tonight. Tomorrow F is back to work and I’m hoping that they won’t make him work too hard. His back is still bad and he’s had a nasty cough for a few weeks now. I think he’s going to the doctor on Saturday, at least he needs to go!

Come back later and see what I get up to around here. Until tomorrow….
