Saturday - Rainy, cloudy and super windy
As I’m writing this, it is well past 2 in the morning. The wind is howling around the house, we are in the path of the big typhoon moving north. We don’t usually have a lot of damage from typhoons as Tsuruoka is surrounded by mountains that protect us. I’m hoping that it is just the wind and the rain that we have to worry about. There were warnings earlier that Fujishima (a suburb of Tsuruoka) had flooding and people near the river should evacuate, but where we are should be okay.
F and I slept in quite late today. My 11 am alarm went off today and I was asleep in bed and really shocked about it! I got up then and mostly stayed up!
F wanted lunch and he wanted to take his mother too. I was fine with that. We ended up going to a soba shop and had some nice soba with tempura. It was rather expensive though. After lunch, I suggested taking K out for coffee too. She never spends time outside of the house and I think it is nice for her to be out. We tried to go to Unasakahan, the nice, very Japanese coffee shop that F likes but sad to say, it had closed! We were both quite shocked. It closed at the end of September. I’m quite sad. I had planned to take friends there, it just never quite happened.
We ended up at Doutors in the Mall instead. K and I walked slowly to the shop and F parked the car. K and F had coffees and I had tea. We’re an adventurous lot!
After lunch, we came back to the house. F did ask if I wanted to go out, but I didn’t really. I suggested having naps. F was all for that. We went upstairs and I don’t think I took a nap at all, but it was a nice downtime for the two of us.
After a few hours, F started talking about dinner. He suggested a place and I was okay with it, but then when I went downstairs, there were no lights on. K was probably in bed. I suggested we go somewhere else if K didn’t want to come with us. She didn’t. F asked her.
F and I went to Kintaro Sushi and had a yummy meal. It was very quiet inside, I felt sorry for all the workers. After dinner, I wanted to hit up a hundred yen shop, so we went to Pal. We got a few things at the shop and then went to the grocery store. Some of the shelves were empty, but it was mostly the bento section. I didn’t see a lot of things gone like in the stores I saw online. We picked up a few things and then came back to the house.
On the way, I noticed that a lot of stores had shut down early. It was remarkably quiet along the way.
I watched a movie on the cable channel, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a Lizabeth Salander movie. It was okay, and Claire Foy was good in it, but it just wasn’t as good as the other two The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo films.
After it finished, I took a late shower and then made us a little late-night snack. I re-heated the last of the Twice-Baked potatoes and brought them upstairs. F liked his, I just wish he’d had it on Thursday. It was really nice!
And that’s about it. The wind and the rain have been really strong outside, but it might be quieting down now. I really hope that it stays that way. I’m glad that I am not in transit at the moment either. I often leave Canada around this time of year so I’m happy that I am here this time.
Come back later and see if I am still here and hopefully not blown away! Until tomorrow….
