Monday - Rainy

I’m back! As I mentioned, I was going on a trip out of town. I wasn’t able to post on Saturday night as I ran out of time. We left the house around 9:30 on Sunday morning so I needed not to go to bed so terribly late on Saturday.

We drove to Yamagata City and I went to Lupicia, my fabulous tea store. I spent rather a lot of money there. I wanted to try a few new teas, plus my favourite Christmas tea just came out and I wanted more decaffeinated teas as well. So….It was fine with me.

We went to Costco and F was able to get new winter tyres and to have the new tyres put on the car. We had a late lunch at Costco and scoped out a few things that we might want to get the next day.

After we picked up the car, we went to the Aeon Mall in Yamagata city. I went to the import food store and picked up a few things. I wanted my Christmas pudding but apparently it hasn’t come in yet. Sigh.

We went to the hotel then and checked in. It was a nice hotel and in a great location. Yay me for picking it. We got to our room and almost immediately left again.  We went to the station to another import food store where we picked up a few things, but not the tea I was hoping for.

After that, F and I went to an izakaya for dinner. We had some great food and some okay food, then went back to the hotel and had a quiet night before going to bed.

Sunday was a great day.

Today was not.

F and I got up and went over to the station to find something for breakfast. We did have a small breakfast in one place, but honestly wanted something else. We went walkabout looking for something, but didn’t find anything. Finally I said to F that I needed to get back to the room so I could take my shower, so we went back.

When we checked out of the hotel, we drove over to Costco to start our shopping. When we arrived I talked to F about the bags. He had brought them to Costco inside each other. He’d stuffed about 3 bags inside another one. They are hard to get out at the check out and when you are trying to pack your groceries quickly you just don’t need the hassle. I asked him to take a minute before we go through the check-out to take them out for me. I thought it was a simple and sensible request. He went ballistic. He completely refused and from then on wouldn’t talk to me. He made me walk in front of him so if I didn’t move he wouldn’t move at all. I couldn’t even get him to talk to me. It was ridiculous.

We did pick up some good stuff. We got some sausages, orange chicken, potatoes, carrots and Brussel sprouts. We also got a light for our genkan and I got a desktop stand for my printer, so I can raise it above my laptop. Because F wouldn’t touch the bags, I took them all out and carried them to the check out. We went through the register and while he crammed things on the belt (which you aren’t supposed to do) I tried to pack the bags. One salesclerk helped a bit, but it was really hard and I had to undo some of her packing.

We put stuff in the car and F was all set to leave Yamagata. I suggested going back in to Costco and having something for lunch. He didn’t really seem happy about it, but we did. I think it was a good idea. He had the Asian Chicken salad and I had the bulgogi wrap thing. We both had ice cream too, and drinks. Although F wanted me to have some of his salad, I didn’t. It was amazing how much nicer he was after we ate though.

We drove back towards Tsuruoka after that. It started to rain quite heavily. We stopped at a roadside area once for a break and to get a treat for his mother, then we came back. I think I slept most of the way back!

At the house, we unloaded the car and I put a lot of the stuff away. We relaxed for a bit and then I suggested going out to eat. We did a grocery run to get stuff for our meet-up tomorrow, then went to Gusto for a quick dinner.

We came back to the house and F tried to set up the light in the genkan, I think he did a good job. The light is much brighter than our old one, but it has to be fixed somewhere. We aren’t sure where yet.

Anyway, this is all rather long-winded, but things are okay. Overall, the trip was good, but I really could have done without F’s nastiness today. Apparently, having the empty bags over my arm made me look like a thief? They were empty bags….

Tomorrow we’re off to spend time with a friend at her new to her house. Until tomorrow….
