Saturday - Cold and snowy

Today was an okay day. It was a bit boring in all honesty. I got up around 11 and hung around the room waiting for F to decide if he was going to get up or not. He didn’t for a bit. After one, he announced that he’d make lunch for his mother and then we’d go out for our lunch. I had to remind him that we’d bought food for lunch last night and we didn’t have to go out yet.

I went downstairs and started heating things up. When I first went into the kitchen, K was in there having some of her food out of the fridge and toasting bread in the fish grill. I really wish she wouldn’t do that as the fish grill can over cook it if she forgets about it, while the toaster oven has a window and a timer on it! I quickly washed some mini-tomatoes for her and put them in the living room, she brought them back a couple of minutes later. I put them back on the table in the living room and tried to explain that we’d be having lunch soon! I put stuff out and soon F came down and got out more stuff too.

We had a fairly nice little lunch, although F kept trying to make me feel guilty for not eating his fish. Argh. I like fish, just not when I’m not in the mood for it. I got gifted with doing all the clean up again. I’m not sure how that works actually.

We came upstairs and F proceeded to get back into bed because his stomach was hurting. Now, it’s not that I don’t believe him, because I do, but it is so convenient that it always happens when there is work to be done or I’ve asked to go somewhere.

I told F that we needed to go to get something for dinner and also I wanted to go to the mall for a few minutes.  We left the house around 6 or 6:30 and then had to shovel snow for the next 20 minutes or so. There was at least a foot of snow on top of the car. I’d cleared off the steps yesterday, but they were covered over again. I cleared them, while F cleared around the car and onto the road. I did a bit of clearing around the car too. We both worked quite hard, but it was necessary, and I like to think that because we did it today too, it wasn’t as difficult to clear the snow.

We drove to S-Mall and I went to the hundred yen shop. I got a new crochet hook, some snacks and a couple of towels that I’m planning to use in the kitchen as hand towels. I also got a plastic pattern marker for my crochet, so I can keep track of where I am. I’ve never seen it before, I hope it works. Also at Daiso, I got my teddy bear! They’ve been having a stamp collecting thing and if you collect enough stamps and pay a little something you can get a teddy bear. I got a pink girly one!

We left the mall and headed towards the grocery store. We were in time today, but there really wasn’t anything in the deli section. I was quite disappointed. I had wanted something to eat, but there wasn’t anything. F picked up some more chicken for his soba and then I grabbed a package of ebi gratin, or pasta in a white sauce with shrimp.  We didn’t get kerosene tonight though.

We came back to the house and F went into action right away. He started making soba and when I asked if he needed help said no. I took myself off upstairs to stay out of his way.

He called me (on the phone) later to come down and I did. We had dinner in the living room with his mother, who had gotten up for the occasion. We had soba with chicken and it was bland and horrible. I don’t know how F makes his soba soup but it has absolutely no taste whatsoever. The gratin was nice though. He’d given his mother too many noodles and she couldn’t eat her gratin, so it’s in the fridge for later. I’m afraid I didn’t say any of the nice pleasantries that people usually do when they’ve finished a meal, so I headed for the kitchen with most of the tableware and did the dishes. I went upstairs after that. I wasn’t too happy about the meal. F can cook well, but he relies on one particular soba sauce and dilutes it until it has no flavour.

Upstairs I watched a bit more YouTube. The TV hasn’t been on much lately, I have stuff on the DVR but I keep hoping that F will watch something with me. He won’t, I know he won’t.

He finally came upstairs and went to bed for a while. I decided it was too cold to take my shower, so didn’t.

It’s been fairly quiet here ever since. F got up to take some medicine and is still up. I don’t really want to have another 5 am bedtime tonight, so should get to bed soon!

Come back later if you want to hear all about the third day of the year. Until tomorrow….
