 Thursday - Warm and sunny

I got up just after 8:00 this morning, went downstairs and then grabbed my breakfast. I had prepared it for myself last night. It was soggy, but rather nice. I got dressed, brushed my teeth and then I left for work when the taxi arrived outside.

I came back to the house around 1:00 pm. K had gone for a walk and was halfway down the road. Unfortunately, she hadn’t locked the door! It was nice for me as I could walk right in, but….

She was having a genki day today. She was actually cooking today. She made miso soup with daikon and something else too. Unfortunately, I was trying to make my lunch at the same time and it didn’t work that well. I gave her some of yesterday’s stew and she seemed to like that. It was a bit frightening leaving her alone in the kitchen though. She’d put an empty pan on the stove, turn on the heat all the way up and then walk off. No oil, nothing. At one point she asked if she could use my frypan, but I’m afraid I wouldn’t let her. I found her her frypan, so she used that.

I went upstairs and tried to plan some lessons, but I didn’t get my head in the right place. Instead, I watched the US news and caught up with some of my favourite websites!

F called around 5:30 to say that he was coming back, but would stop at the gas station first. I went down and started working on dinner. My original plan was to make spaghetti with garlic shrimp and then have broccoli and salad on the side. I did a re-think and looked up recipes for shrimp and broccoli stir-fry. I found a simple one that I had most of the ingredients for, so tried it. It got great reviews! So, for dinner, F and K had rice with shrimp and broccoli stir-fry, K’s miso soup, salad and a stir-fried daikon thing that K did. I didn’t have rice, but I did have couscous again. Dinner wasn’t bad. F really seemed to like the shrimp dish and I think he was glad that I didn’t give him meat today!

We had talked about going out, but didn’t. I was in the kitchen doing the dishes. It took a long time because I had to do K’s dishes too.

I came upstairs afterwards and relaxed for a couple of minutes. I did plan one lesson for next week. I have a couple more that I want to get started on, maybe tomorrow.

F and I had a few chats up here tonight, it was nice. I reminded him that he needs to pick me up tomorrow night. I also hope that he’ll cook dinner for his mother tomorrow night!

Today was also the tenth anniversary of the big earthquake off the other coast, the one that caused the tsunami. I wrote a blurb on Facebook, but I spent the day fairly quietly. When K was in the kitchen she had her TV on and I heard the siren go off at 14:46. It was a sobering moment. On FB, many of my friends have been writing remembrances of the day and reading of them is both wonderful and heartbreaking.

Come back later if you like and hear all about my Friday. Until tomorrow….
