Sunday - Clear and sunny, then rainy and snowy, warmer
Today didn’t start that well. I finally woke up and went downstairs, only to see F and K at the living room table eating. I had specifically asked F not to do that as we had some food that we bought that we needed to eat soon and I thought it would be nice to eat lunch together. This was their late breakfast apparently.
I went back upstairs and was a bit grumpy with myself for a while. When F came upstairs he suggested going to a restaurant that I like. I said it was fine but I wouldn’t be sure if it was open. Everything is off regular schedule with the New Year holidays.
Leaving the house wasn’t a simple proposition today. The snowplough had been through last night and left us a wall of snow between the car and the road. There was a lot of snow. It was sunny and gorgeous and the snow was melting, but we had to shift the snow. I went out first and shovelled around the front door of the house and then did a bit of the walk before grabbing the big snow dump and trying to move some of the wall. F came out after a bit and he took over moving the wall. I did a bit of shovelling in other areas to make it easier for me and his mum to get to the car. Finally, F said it was enough and we got in the car and went on our merry way.
As I thought, the restaurant was closed, but we kept on going on our way out to Mikawa. I thought of the restaurants between that point and the outskirts of Tsuruoka and suggested a few. F liked the idea of going to Coco Ichibanya again, so that’s what we did. We both had the same thing, Soup Curry with Roast Chicken. It was nice, and the temperature was much better this time. We had a drink afterwards as well and then headed out to the mall.
The road was quite busy with people travelling. We passed a fender-bender at one point, and at another place, I was amazed to see all the swans in a field looking for something to eat. There was at least a hundred of them in one little area.
We got to the mall and F lucked out on a good parking place. It was really close to the mall. The mall was quite crowded today, but since we got there around 4:00ish, people were starting to go home.
In the mall, we headed up to the craft area and I had a look. In past years they put loose balls of yarn down with some baskets and you could put as many balls of yarn in the basket as you could for 1000 yen. Today, their special was 30 balls of yarn for 1000 yen. They had a few kinds of yarn, but this time I tried to stay away from the novelty yarn. It’s lovely when it is worked up, but crochet is really hard with novelty stuff. Knitting is slightly easier, but the project I have in mind is for crochet. I got 30 balls of variegated yarn. I’m thinking about making another basket like I did for my friend last year. Only, this one will probably be for ME!
After we bought the yarn (F actually paid for it-woot!) we went downstairs to the drugstore department. I wanted some cream for a nasty crack that has opened up again on one of my heels and F needed something for his fingers. We also needed to buy some new masks as our supply is getting lower. I’m also going to try and wear less cloth masks as the new variant is so infectious. I won’t be as comfortable, but hopefully I won’t get sick.
We did that shopping and then took our bags out to the car. F did the trip to the car as it was pouring and he didn’t want me to get wet. There are times when he is very sweet!
We headed into the grocery store and picked up a couple of things for dinner. We got a platter of Chinese style hors d’oevres, some boneless chicken strips and some snack foods for later. We went through the checkout and packed the groceries.
We came back to Tsuruoka, and honestly, it was a good thing that we did. It was sleeting and there was thunder and lightning, it wasn’t a nice night to be out.
Back at the house, I somehow got co-opted into putting dinner together. I was rather annoyed since F was sitting on his butt in the living room, but whatever. I would bring plates out and ask him to give them out so that they would start to warm up a little, he left them stacked. Sigh. I used both my air fryer and the microwave to heat things up. I think I preferred my air fryer for the most part, although it took a little longer.
After dinner, guess which lucky person got to do the dishes? If you said me, give yourself a gold star. Yup.
I did them but I listened to a couple of podcasts at the same time, so it got done and I was semi entertained. Now, F hadn’t finished when I brought everything else to the kitchen, so I’m hoping that he washed his own plates and glass. I didn’t do them. If he’d brought them through I probably would have, but he didn’t so I didn’t.
I came upstairs and watched some YouTube. F came up and we had a nice but quiet evening. He’s planning a massage for himself tomorrow night. It will be late so I’m worried about him getting enough sleep. He also changed the quilt on his bed. We bought him a nice extra warm one last year and he just now put it on his bed. He sleeps with a blanket and a towelket, which I don’t understand.
That’s about it for me. I have no idea what we’ll get up to tomorrow. It’s F’s last day off. I suggested going to the used record/cd shop nearby and maybe going to Starbucks for a beverage, but we’ll see what he thinks about the whole thing.
Come back later if you like and hear all about my day…if you can stand the excitement! Until tomorrow….
