Monday - Warm and sunny
I woke up when my alarm went off this morning. I did get up, but F was still in bed. He had decided not to go to work today. He had a bad cough and wanted to get it checked out.
I watched the news from the bed and probably dozed a little bit through it. There were news reports from all over the world, many were in English so it was good to be able to understand them.
Around 9 am F left to go to the doctor’s office. I stayed in bed and snoozed a little. Okay, a lot. I got up and dressed, went downstairs and grabbed my breakfast. I ate and watched the news I had recorded very early in the morning.
I didn’t hear again from F until one pm. I was a bit worried about him, but he came back to the house. He does have a cough, but it doesn’t sound too serious and hopefully will be gone soonish. He got medicines from the doctor as usual. Why do Japanese doctors give so much?
F asked if I wanted to go for lunch and of course, I did. As it was close to 2 by the time he got back and checked on his mother, I suggested one of the family restaurants in town. Most of them have lunch until 3:00pm. We ended up in Cocos and I was quite happy as I like it. I had a fairly decent meal. I had a hamburger patty in gravy with veggies and an egg. It came with salad and a bun, plus the lunch soup bar. F had chicken and fish and they were okay too. We both had drink bar. Because F’s knee is still bothering him, I went to the drink bar for him.
One of the times I was at the drink bar, a lady at the machine I’d just finished using asked me if the Sparkling Chardonnay in the machine had alcohol in it*. It’s quite unusual for people to ask me things, and even more unusual for them to ask me in English. It turns out that she’s from Tsuruoka but lives in Texas. She’s back in town for a couple of months looking after her mother who is very elderly. She ended up coming over to our table and chatting. It was nice, but… She’d like to get together again for coffee or something. I don’t mind, as long as it isn’t for an English lesson. I don’t enjoy being used for free English practice. Hopefully, she wouldn’t do that. I’m just a touch jaded, can you tell?
F and I left the restaurant and went to the Glasses shop where we get our glasses. He ordered some new glasses and that took a while. I got my eyes checked and basically got told to use my “good glasses” more. I have a pair of glasses that I put in my purse for out of the house, and one that I wear in the house. I have another pair, the expensive ones that I rarely wear. The woman told me to start wearing them! However, one lens should probably be changed as my eye had changed since I got my original prescription!
F and I went to S-Mall and I bought him a drink at Doutor. A friend had sent me some money to have “coffee” on her this year, so I loaded up my Doutor app and next time will have something nice to drink on her. We stayed a little too long in the mall and had to get back to the house for me to cook dinner.
I changed when I got back and went downstairs. Of course, the heater hadn’t been switched on so the kitchen was fairly cold. Happily, it wasn’t January cold, but still a bit unpleasant.
Tonight I made a lot of dishes from the store. I baked chicken in the toaster oven, air-fried some asparagus/bacon things and a couple of hash brown patties for myself. We ate a bit after 7 pm. The chicken was good, so were the asparagus things. The salad was a tad small and I enjoyed the hash browns. I put some rice on F and K’s plates from the rice cooker but F was complaining that it was old rice. Well, then, maybe he shouldn’t have cooked it yesterday then?! I can’t win. And also, I didn’t care! I got NO help as usual so really what did he expect? After dinner, also no help. F went for a massage.
I did the dishes which didn’t take too long as I didn’t do a lot of regular cooking. I went upstairs and relaxed after I was done. When F came back, he brought ice cream which did go a long way to making me forgive him! I put it in the freezer while I took my shower, then brought it upstairs again to eat.
I watched The Bold Type and then the New Zealand fishing show tonight and got a start on the things I do at the end of the evening.
Tomorrow I have two lessons in the afternoon and then I’m done for another week. I’ll probably have to do paperwork and some planning, but hopefully, I can fit that into my week. I also have to cook dinner again. Lucky me!
Come back later if you like and hear all about my day. Until tomorrow….
*It doesn’t. It is just grape juice with some fizzy water in it. It is nice though.
