Sunday - Hot and Sunny

I woke up this morning fairly early, made a trip downstairs. F was cooking something for his mother and himself and it just reeked. He always wonders why I don’t want to join them for breakfast….that’s why. Urgh. I went back to bed for a little while. It was so hot!

I got up a bit earlier than I did yesterday and even got myself dressed. F came back into the room and after a bit started asking about lunch. He did have a couple of good suggestions. He talked about going to Fujishima, but I wasn’t sure the restaurant was open today. I asked him to call and check. He tried, but there wasn’t any answer. He also suggested a place in the mountains, but I wasn’t sure if they would let people in without a reservation. I follow them on Facebook and I thought they wrote something about needing reservations. I countered with the restaurant at Yunohama, so that’s where we decided to try.

We drove off to Yunohama. It was a little stressful as F gets frustrated by other drivers doing dumb things. He tries to “teach” them lessons which honestly I know he shouldn’t.

We got to the restaurant and they were almost full, but they asked one couple if they’d mind if we got the other half of their table (it was two small tables pushed together). They said it was okay, so the staff set it up for us.

We had a very nice lunch. Sadly for me, most of their options had tomato in them, so I had their quiche plate. It was nice and I enjoyed it. F had their meat plate today, it was chicken in a tomato cream sauce. It looked good and normally I would have had that. Well, I would have before February!

We ate and had a nice meal. We also got dessert and some iced coffee after our meal. F paid, and used the last of his coupons from the local government to promote people going to restaurants.

We drove back towards Tsuruoka, but made a stop at a drugstore for a washroom break and to pick up a few things.

Back in Tsuruoka we stopped at K’s Denki (a huge electronics shop) to see if I could get another waterpot. My present waterpot has corroded away on part of it and I am afraid that some of the plastic could cause problems inside. I was horribly surprised to see that these machines aren’t as cheap as I thought. The ones I liked were over ¥10,000. Yikes. We asked for a discount since F found it cheaper on line, but the guy couldn’t match the price. We left. F is supposed to order it, but I bet he hasn’t yet.

We also stopped at a sushi delivery place. On Thursday, F has a party to go to. He won’t drink so he can come back afterwards…his Friday will be busy, but I would rather not cook for K and myself that night.

We did some food shopping next. We made a quickish visit to Gyomu Supa. I got some cheese, some cream cheese and some snacks for myself.

After that, we drove to the regular grocery store and I went in and went shopping. I got some stuff for breakfasts and dinners for the next couple of days. I think it’ll be nice. F stayed in the car, which I was happy about! I get really frustrated with him when we are shopping. He never stays with me and he’s constantly telling me that I’m getting in people’s way and I end up angry and I forget half of the things I need to buy.

When I had bought the groceries, we came back to the house and I put the shopping away. F disappeared as usual. Sigh.

I went upstairs and relaxed in front of my computer for a bit. Around 6 F asked if I wanted dinner yet, but I was still full from lunch. I asked to wait for a while and so we didn’t go out until after 7:30.  F wouldn’t suggest anything as usual, so I came up with either Chinese, Sushi or….?  F thought Chinese sounded good, so off we went. Unfortunately, our first place was closed for a private party, so we drove over to the restaurant near our old apartment. We went in and got seated right away.

We looked at the menu and ended up ordering 4 dishes. F chose bifun and I was happy. He usually orders yakisoba and I don’t like it, but I do like bifun. I suggested yurinchi chicken and then some stir-fried vegetables. F also asked for some gyoza so we got them too. Everything was very nice and we enjoyed our meal. Almost everything got eaten!

We paid and then came back to the house.

Eventually, I decided to watch something on TV. I had planned for a movie, but I wasted too much time, so I settled for an episode of Sugar and one of The Reluctant Traveller. I enjoyed both and finally learned the “secret” of Sugar. Probably. I could be wrong!

F spent the evening trying to book a hotel room for his mother and sister and her husband. He’s treating them because she’s done so much for their mother. I’m not sure if it is a real treat to have their mother along, but she did seem to like the idea. I’m not sure how it went.

Anyway, that’s it for me. I’m done for the night. I’m not sure what I’ll get up to tomorrow. Come on back and find out. Until tomorrow….
